The Search for Hulk: Part 1
Date of Scene: 14 July 2020
Location: Martha's Vineyard - Rhode Island - USA
Synopsis: The Hulk was here, but then he was not. He went roughly that way.
Cast of Characters: Bobbi Morse, Daisy Johnson, Sam Wilson, Jane Foster

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Neither the Hulk nor Dr. Banner came back from the mission against Brainiac. His ship went down and by all accounts, the Hulk went down with it. A drone was sent down to check out the ship and in the few short moments before the drone lost power some images showed a big hole in the skull, Hulk sized.

But then a day passed and still no Hunk, still no Banner. Where did he go? A report came in from a family on Martha's Vineyard complaining about unexpected damage to their holiday home while they were away. A clue, perhaps, but unsubstantiated as such yet.

The quinjet lands at Martha's Vineyard Airport. It's warm and the small island is filled with expensive homes surrounded by tall green trees. Bobbi says, "So, it's a short drive.. anywhere.. on this island. I've hired us a jeep. There are no SHIELD bases on this island. It's too small and too close to the main land. So, let's move our gear to.. there," she points over to the parked jeep - the only vehicle in the parking lot, "And move out."

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Well, the fight against Brainiac had certainly taken a toll on everyone. But teamwork had won the day and the helicarrier had held against all odds even if there had been a price to pay. For Daisy it had been a stiff arm where an ice bolt had hit it from one of Brainiac's drones, making her have difficulty moving said arm, she rolling it about and sighing while flying along on the Quinjet with the others.

And figuring out that discretion was for the best she had brought plain clothes instead of the uniform. Black jeans, tight shirt, a jacket atop it all. Casual Daisy! "Got it." she picks up her backpack where she keeps her tools of the trade, laptop along with her hacking thingamagickas and hoists it over a shoulder. "And ..., shotgun." she calls out when she notes the jeep. "You want us to go look at the sites that were wrecked or talk with people first?"

Sam Wilson has posed:
Clad in his gray tactical uniform, Sam Wilson leans out of the Quinjet's rear hatch, one arm up in a casual grip on one of the bay's overhead handholds. "Not to mention the property taxes around here," he comments wryly, giving the nearest high-ticket homes a glance.

He disappears back inside for a second, then returns with his hawk, Redwing, hooded on his arm. "Let's hope nobody's let a purse dog out to roam free," he says as he descends the ramp. At the bottom, he removes the hood and the raptor takes wing, giving him an eye in the sky even if he remains grounded.

"So, who needs help carrying what?" He'll busy himself helping the team lug their gear to the Jeep while Redwing scouts out the immediate area. Hulk isn't known for his subtlety, so the bird will be especially on the lookout for a trail of devastation or the sounds of screaming.

Jane Foster has posed:
Martha's Vineyard in the summer is a place even someone like Jane cannot afford more than a short-term let on. Too many old, wealthy families from the East Coast for a Pacific Northwesterner like her to have ever inherited, so the quinjet touching down is her first visit.

She holds a fancy rigged-up phone, her sunglasses modified to give her a steady scan. If any flashbulb goes off in front of the astrophysicist's face, she might be next to blind. But with a large sun hat on, the distinction between day and night is much easier to bear. A hockey bag behind her contains the more sensitive receptors, because not everyone can bring a DWARF along, though she's jury rigged up smaller sensors and arrays that can be stowed in a pocket or a jet pack.

"Each of you get one of these. It'll relay data back to me if it detects any radiation or the drone energy signature, if it exists." She holds out what looks like a little clip-on air freshener, but sorry, no Baja Breeze or citrus surprise for anyone to enjoy. The glassy front is reinforced by a film of fine plastic that probably has something to do with filtering out the spectrum she doesn't want. "Just wear it, and it will do its own work. No action required on your part."

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Bobbi lifts up a suitcase, a standard SHIELD field kit containing encrypted phone back to SHIELD HQ, pistol with ICER and AP rounds, med kit, tablet, etc. She too is wearing casual clothing. Summer pants and blouse and a large brimmed hat. Still, government agent sunglasses though. She smiles to Sam, "I think we've got it covered."

She opens up the trunk of the jeep and puts her case in to it, not really expecting to need any of it. "Banner missing is not public knowledge, so let's keep it that way. If you do ask people.. be discrete about it. But, we're going to the house.. mansion.. first to see what's left and if it has anything to do with our favourite anger management client."

She doesn't let anyone get in the drivers seat, she's driving. Everyone else can keep their hands free. The jeep has some modern fixtures, a blue tooth sound system and sat nav system as well. It's a civilian car, not a SHIELD car... no special armoured doors here. Once everyone is on board she starts off down the road, driving through the tiny town next to the airport, past Cakes by Liz, past Vineyard Pool & Spa.. then out on to the main road that loops around the island. "Is anyone familiar with this place?"

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"Ok...." Daisy checks on her phone, perhaps something that she should had done earlier, for how hot it will be out here. And before leaving she runs back out to the quinjet to get a ballcap and sets it on her head. She takes one of the 'air fresheners' from Jane, stowing it away inside a pocket after a thumbs up given at the astrophysicist.

To the group she says. "These rich people normally got lots of cameras around their mansions. If he was here I am sure he wasn't around trying to evade them so I will try to see if I can find any along our way, or closer to that mansion."

When she sits down on the jeep she brings out her laptop, starting to type on it quietly and brings up a map of the island so they can follow the roads. "I have never been here. But Mr. Google Maps will help us." a grin and a wink given. As they drive through the spa she looks longingly towards it. "My kingdom for an afternoon off..." she murmurs in jest.

Sam Wilson has posed:
Sam takes the sensor from Jane and hefts it a couple of times in one hand, noting its small size and light weight. "You're making it too easy on us, Dr. Foster," he says with a grin, clipping it to one of the chest straps on his flight harness. "Hill's gonna think we're getting spoiled."

And speaking of spoiled... "Can't say this was one of my regular hangouts as a kid, no," he answers Bobbi with a touch of wry humor. As he's kitted more for aerial reconnaissance than mingling over brunch, he's all too happy to pile into the back seat, although within moments he has his phone out and synced with the sound system. Hope everyone's in the mood for Stevie Wonder.

As the first track's intro ramps up, he leans forward and flicks Daisy an amused look. "Hulk doesn't really do 'evade,' no. Banner can be surprisingly squirrelly, though; don't underestimate him."

Jane Foster has posed:
"I read a Lonely Planet and Explorer's Guide. Several places for lunch bookmarked on my phone, as well as promising locations for parks or walking trails if we need to get out there," Jane admits, giving her phone a little wiggle for emphasis. "Would you like a copy emailed to you? I imagine it's shareable." Because SHIELD vs DRM is a doubtlessly amusing act of four minutes with Daisy stripping the protections. "You'd be shocked how possessive they are of their waterfront rights, but probably not considering who lives around here. I don't know that our friend is holed up in a lighthouse or viewing the whaling museum, but got those covered, too."

It pays to be prepared and the astrophysicist absorbing all the information through slightly less than osmosis put in the hours on the briefing and the flight over. Still. "The regatta should be any time now, so acquiring a boat if it comes down to it ought to be possible." Just making life better and better, isn't she? Her breezy attitude fits the breezy isle.

"Should we anticipate Doctor Banner or the Hulk? When it comes down to the former, where would you go in his shoes, Agent Wilson?" A pause. "You can just use a first name basis with me, if you prefer. Or Foster. I'll answer either. But regardless, keeping a low profile probably means staying either in the bigger towns. Oak Bluff or Vineyard Havens, mayb, hiding among the tourists. Sitting in someone's carriage house or a tent during the height of tourist season seems a bit unwise. The locals are home, the holidayers with their own cottages and mansions should be in residence. Hmm. Have there been any thefts, Daisy?" /She/ is on a first name basis. "Maybe someone stealing small items, food or clothing or camping supplies?"

Bobbi Morse has posed:
"I can't give you time off, you have to fill in the HR form and Coulson will sign off on it," Bobbi says without humour to Daisy, almost encouragingly. "But since we're out here.. let's try and relax. I don't expect we'll run in to any secret HYDRA assassins today. Who are your number one favourite hero or vigilante out there right now. Yes I'm including vigilantes, not every good deed is legal.. I think I'd have to say... hmm."

She ponders for a moment as she takes a left on to West Tisbury road, then right on to Oyster Watcha road. She dips her head a little to the music and smiles, "That younger Wonder Woman type, Troia, the one in the Titans. I like her style. Actually, now that we're talking about Titans, I do rather like that Supergirl."

Fosters preparations are impressive and Bobbi gives her a smile, "Yes please, send them over. If we encounter Hulk, we'll have Sam call the Avengers. If we encounter Banner, we'll take him home ourselves."

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"Shareable ..." Daisy echoes that word with an amusement worthy of an hacktivist that is used to having the all of the internet at her mercy. "And yes, please do. I will interpolate it with the map I have and we will have possible locations in no time. Yet if he hulked out I am imagining he won't be at the island anymore, be him Hulk or Banner right now." the sound of her keyboard continues to be heard as she checks on robberies. "Nothing out of the ordinary though ..., some clothing out for dry stolen here..." she sends the coordinates of one of the island mansions to the 'gang'. "Could be a coincidence. Or our friend finding clothes after the deed." which also meant it could be something worth investigating.

Her eyes then go up and she looks at Sam. "Why do you think he would had disappeared, Sam?" He's the one that knows the man best out of all of them afterall!

Sam Wilson has posed:
"Alright then, Jane. I'm Sam," Falcon replies, offering a smile and a hand to shake across the backseat console. "If he dragged himself here, he was probably Hulk to begin with, but since we got one report instead of an island-wide panic, I'd say he went Banner quickly after that. If he's even here." He glances out at the homes they're passing with a measured and measuring expression.

"The stolen clothing is a good lead. The stretchy purple pants stand out, but trust me, they're better than the alternative." His eyes go wide for a second, either at a horrifying memory or just for amusing effect. "As for why -- like I said, Banner's squirrelly. He spent a long time off the grid; honestly, I think he takes to it better than city living. He could get spooked and go dark for basically any reason, and I'm guessing those news reports about Big Green were more than enough."

He leans around the driver's seat to give Bobbi a look. "You're seriously asking favorite heroes with me in the car? I'd say that guy with the wings -- Chopped Liver Man, I think they call him."

Jane Foster has posed:
"A man crashes into the ocean after a battle, and he displaces an enormous amount of mass. I'm going with stole some clothes out of necessity," Jane says with amusement and some degree of compassion. "Unless he has a special suit like Mr. Fantastic?"

A few pokes over the screen gives a chances to distribute the ebook to the others, complete with 129 bookmarks and several highlighted passages of particular interest. Sinking back into the seat, she trusts in Bobbi's driving skills. "Where did that theft happen? It could give us some ideas. No stolen or missing bicycles in the same area. It seems to me that could be another way to get around other than being on foot. More options." She's building a mental map while keeping an eye on the landscape for anything out of sorts, be it a house with a car sized punch in it, a drone body used as a scarecrow -- or more realistically, any signs of gamma radiation lingering in patches. She doesn't have a Geiger counter out or the like, at least.

She shakes Sam's hand with a smile. "Pleasure. I'm not answering my favourite hero, but they are not who you think."

Bobbi Morse has posed:
"Seriously Sam, you chose yourself?," Bobbi seems amused at this but keeps driving down the road. At the very end they arrive at a mansion that seems abandoned for now. There is a small vineyard set up with solar power off to the right of the drive way, but the mansion itself is two buildings. The bigger of the two buildings has what one could best describe as a tear right through its center with one side simply flattened and the other exposing various rooms. Bobbi pulls up in the drive way and stares at this sight for a few moments, "Wow."

The equipment Jane is carrying starts reading minute traces of gamma radiation, a sure sign the Hulk was here. "That's fair Jane.. Daisy you not playing the game?," she asks as she hops out of the car and starts walking toward the crushed building. "Spread out, look for ... Hulk? stuff?? Heck I don't know, this is a first for me."

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"Hey, gotta be confident when you are in the superhero business." Daisy says, looking between Bobbi and Sam with some amusement, "Just not sure about that choice of name though ..." a brow arching a little at Sam and his .., chopped liver man. Not that she shares what her own heroes are! Nope! Instead she nods slowly at their explanation on the whys of Banner's disappearance, expression turning more serious.

She slides out of the jeep, now on her tablet for ease of use. "Actually, just a couple of blocks down from here. We will have to check it out after." she looks about, noting that tear in the center. "Well, that seems evidence enough, along with the readings."

A look to Sam. "Want to give us a scouting of the area?" she suggests, she then starting to wander over to look for evidence.

Sam Wilson has posed:
"So I AM chopped liver to you. That, Bobbi, was bait," Sam says with a disappointed shake of his head. "But it kinda does sting to be left out of people's top fives all the time. We can't all be aliens and Amazons! This isn't the History Channel."

Once the car has parked, he pops the door open and regretfully leaves the warm embrace of Stevie's keyboard. "I'll check it out while I'm up there," he says, referring to the location of the stolen clothes. Without waiting any longer, he unfolds his wings and takes to the air, trying to get a map of the swath of destruction from the air. If they can plot Hulk's path, the spot where he turned into Banner, and where he might have headed after that, they'll have their next steps.

Jane Foster has posed:
The phone no longer used to find out the best pastry source in Oak Bluffs, Jane turns back to monitoring ambient energy sources around her. She had that hockey bag and toting that thing around, large enough to actually haul a body in, might not be the best idea. Easier to work on the smaller censors hidden in a swim bag slung over her shoulder, even if she needs to dart back to fetch it. Not so far before they move on, and it's more convenient.

Her pacing up the street puts her on the sidewalk, pausing to admire a vista of small seaside town Americana, the flag snapping in the ocean breeze and pretty red geraniums in white window boxes. "Pinging here for proof of a visit in trace amounts. Nothing recent. Let's keep up moving on foot there, too, and see if we can find anything around the clothesline."

Nope, not grinning. She watches Sam take flight with a kind of odd longing. Hey, being on the ground is great, but seeing the island from above is especially lovely. Breathing out, she smiles to Bobbi and Daisy. "Let's keep moving, I hold hope he'll be sunning himself on Norton Point Beach or having a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup."

Bobbi Morse has posed:
"Liver is good eats," is all Bobbi says in response to Sam as she starts walking around the perimeter of the destroyed building. "It kinda looks like may be someone landed... here. An impact crater?"

It doesn't take Sam too long flying around to see another crater, the opposite - one where the Hulk took a big flying jump off to his next destination. There is a directionality to it, heading North-West. How far he jumped though is anyones guess, though given the dent left behind it's definitely off of the island. It is, at least, a vector.

"Besides, if I'm doing top fives," she says now that Sam can't hear, "He's definitely be in it, and so would you Daisy.. and Danvers. There, that's my five." She shrugs and wanders away to continue exploring around the house.

There are destroyed cameras in the area and hacking in to the house security does yield footage of the Hulk landing on the house, getting angry at it //Stupid House//, smashing it up some more, then running off in to the trees. The security camera footage follows that 'not at all subtle' theory discussed on the drive here.

"Oh Jane if you're looking for radiation can you also look for Kryptonite, apparently he swallowed some on Brainiac's ship." The weakness to the Kryptonians is rare knowledge and Bobbi has no real clue that it was used as a weapon against Power Girl and Supergirl by Brainiac, just that it might help track the big green man. It was in the report either way.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"I am a SHIELD agent, not exactly a superhero ..." because there's a difference. But Quake doesn't hide the slight blush on being on someone's hero list. Or however those may go. She does grin at Bobbi though while she gets on working in getting hooked up to the house security CCTV. Easy enough when there's noone around to try and stop her. "Yes, it's confirmed..." she sends her findings to the others.

"If he jumped away still in Hulk that link to the stolen clothes may be a false lead. And if he was sun bathing at north point I'd feel bad about bringing him away from there." who knows, maybe she'd join in the sunbathing! Uff, she really needs to request a few vacation days...

"The read from Sam's device when he goes near it should give us certainty on whether he was the culprit for stealing those or not though." highly doubtful!

The mention of kryptonite makes Daisy blink. No idea what that is where the hacker is concerned. But now that she is out on the sidewalk she breathes in the air. "Soooo, when exactly do we have to be back after this?"

Sam Wilson has posed:
Sam does take a few circuits of the destroyed house's lot to enjoy the view. And on the clock, too! But before long, he is back to business, collecting detailed imagery of the house from higher angles. After that, he's jetting over to the second crater to get more images and then land for a close personal inspection.

He puts a call in; his headset does double as a handsfree cellphone: "Well, so much for me knowing the guy well. He didn't switch to Banner and disappear, he stayed green and bounced back to the mainland. Literally. I've got a general direction, but that's it. I'd keep an eye out for news reports or ambulance calls from Boston bros who tried to fistfight him in a bar."

He does do a quick flyover of the scene of the clothesline crime with some exotic particle filters, just to be sure, but at this point he's chalking that up to drunken, skinny-dipping WASPS getting separated from their own clothes and deciding to unite with someone else's. Before long, he has rejoined the group, looking a bit disappointed that their investigation hasn't turned up more information, but not taking it too badly. "Guess it's up to us to have those grilled cheeses for him, then?" he suggests. Who needs vacation days when you're on a work trip!

Jane Foster has posed:
"He /ate/ the Kryptonite. I... see. He must be ready to eat a lot more than that." Like a goat. Jane reassesses the situation a little, her striving to fathon the Hulk just tilted on its side, shaken up, and left to settle. She chuckles a tad mirthlessly at Bobbi's clarification and proceeds on to said clothesline.

"Plotting along the current trajectory takes us towards North Tisbury, Ghost Island Farms? Oh, we need to check that out at some point. Eventually Lambert's Cove and the beach on the northwest side of the island. That gives a lot of wooded and rural ground he could hide in, if not in the big green form." A casual references land with a certain diminished certainty as she tacks further out. "Eventually that links over the Sound to Naushon Island or Cape Cod, but we're talking a serious distance there."

It's not like kryptonite is a massively well-known substance, but she keeps an eye out for unusual or unconfirmed identity on the readings slithering between her phone and the modified glasses. "We might at least drive out that way, get some ghost cheese, and check on the readings. It shouldn't be too far. The main road is really the only way through for a bit, and if he went overland, Sam, you ought to be able to see his path? I assume it won't be too much like Tunguska."

Bobbi Morse has posed:
"I mean, we should check out some of these other carefully curated and bookmarked locations that Jane made.. to be thorough. Just in case he doubled back..," Bobbi suggests to the group. A very flimsy excuse to stay and enjoy the island for a bit longer before heading back to base. "Besides, they'll have to check satellite footage to see where he went and that'll take time."
