Meanwhile, at the Hall of Justice...
Date of Scene: 19 February 2020
Location: Hall of Justice - New Troy
Synopsis: Power Girl gets interviewed for the Justice League.
Cast of Characters: Hal Jordan, Arthur Curry, Karen Starr

Hal Jordan has posed:
Monitor Duty. Everyone gets stuck with it, usually in pairs so they're prepared for anything. Today, Green Lantern is part of the pair monitoring the world, trying to keep it safe from all the terrible things that tend to happen every time some idiot with a new device thinks he can take over the world. That happens distressingly often, despite the success rate of such devices being about 0.

Green Lantern finds himself wishing he could be cruising around in a jet, but...responsibility is tough sometimes, and it requires putting the greater good first. And sometimes it even puts entire other planets first, a fact that occasionally bothers him. But then, this whole sector is his responsibility, not one planet. "Doesn't usually stay quiet this long." Evidently he's not worried about jinxing it.

Arthur Curry has posed:
Aquaman wanders into the Hall of Justice, trident in his hand as per the usual. He's dressed in his Atlantean battle armor instead of his more casual chain mail attire. He notices Green Lantern on Moniter Duty, which is just about the funniest thing he's ever seen considering all the monitering Hal already does as a Lantern, supposedly. "Hey GL." Aquaman greets his fellow founder.

Come on, of Course Aquaman has to interact. Otherwise Hal would be bored out of his literal mind. "Whats this about things staying quiet? You see anything interesting around the globe or...wherever we have cameras?"

Karen Starr has posed:
Another day, another failure. At most, Karen has managed to tunnel between realities enough that she's dug out the extradimensional exercise room in her apartment... And no more. The machine itself is massive, and it fills a large portion of one of Starrware's sub-basements. Its mere presence is paradoxical- it is a technology that not only doesn't make a great deal of sense in the terrestrial sense, but for those that know of the methods by which it would be created, the race that fathered this technology is very, very dead. Planetary explosions will do that.

Karen doesn't linger on it much. It's just the latest in a long line. She's not entirely sure if her home can even be reached anymore- if it even still exists. Instead, she has to focus on the here and now- almost compulsively.

This is why she approaches, in full-garb as Power Girl, the Hall of Justice. She lands at a respectable distance- Instead of just flying right up to the doors. Striding confidently, the blonde makes her way forward... To make introductions. Or something approaching them.

Hal Jordan has posed:
Green Lantern first waves to Aquaman. "Yeah, nothing so far except...wait, is that Power Girl?" He hasn't quite gotten all the info on how it works for her, but he knows she's generally a good person and fights to protect the world, so he's gonna roll out the welcome mat.

So he heads out to greet her. "Hey, Power Girl. Welcome. Something come up?" Not everything that can go wrong in the world comes up on the monitors.

Arthur Curry has posed:
Aquaman nods softly to Green Lantern for a second. When he points out that Power Girl was sauntering on over, he nods to him. "Looks that way. Why? Do I need to wingman for you?" He messes with the Moniterman with a winning smile and a confident smirk before he's laughing and turning his attention to her.

"Hey there. I don't think we've officially met, but good to see you all the same. Aquaman." He gestures to himself. He looks at Hal at his greeting and he looks to her. "Power Girl, I assume." A friendly expression on his face.

Karen Starr has posed:
Power Girl has no bashfulness or shyness in how she approaches. It's all confidence. "Yeah. That'd be me. I haven't had a chance to introduce myself yet. Good to hear that people are already aware." There's a pause, then, and she holds up her hands.

"No, nothing's come up. I just figured it was getting to be about time for me to come by and say hello. Up until now I haven't exactly stopped by to get into any of the formalities. Wasn't sure I'd be around all that long." That's a mildly cryptic statement, but she brushes past it.

"Good to meet you both. I'm sure there's plenty to do, but there's also probably plenty of red tape."

Hal Jordan has posed:
This day just went from boring to great. Instead of trying to stop random idiot with a doomsday device #23543643, he gets to help a potential applicant to the League get that started.

"Oh, hey, fantastic. Yeah, there's some stuff to do, and an interview to have. There's also a trial period, so we have a chance to see you in action, and how you react to different situations. As they say, there's always another idiot with a doomsday device, so we won't have to wait long for field testing."

"But before all that...you want anything to drink?" The League tends to have mostly energy drinks lurking around...amazing how many calories you burn fighting the forces of evil.

Arthur Curry has posed:
Aquaman gives a soft nod then to Power Girl as she speaks, a smile constantly on his face to express a more friendly attitude towards the situation. "But I understand. We're all always busy, not a lot of time to kick back and relax. Thankfully, there's beer in the fridge." Arthur, trying to be a nice guy. He does look over at GL for a moment with a smirk.

"Don't worry, nothing too fierce. Just be yourself basically. Worst case scenario..." he smiles a moment and doesn't finish the words, just to be playful.

But Hal's the better PR guy than he is, so he lets the Lantern take the helm.

Karen Starr has posed:
Power Girl nods a time or two. To be fair, she'd rather be punching things. That mood isn't uncommon for her- but today it's stronger than normal. Regardless, if nothing else, this will be a gateway to punching more things. Not, perhaps, the healthiest way to see it, but she'll work through that before it becomes a problem.

"I'm sure there's a whole lot of To Do in the way." she states, folding her arms somewhat impassively. "I'm sure that there won't be any forms to sign though, so that's nice." Taking another step or two forward, she continued. "Do we have to make an appointment? Is there a signup sheet?" Admittedly, she isn't sure there isn't a signup sheet.

Her attention moves to Arthur, then, and her brow raises. "There really isn't anything too fierce, but I'll pass on the drink for now. Beer or otherwise."

Hal Jordan has posed:
"Not too many forms to sign because, well, first of all, we respect people's Identities, and second of all, forms can be stolen. Supervillains try it all the time, and sooner or later, one of them would get lucky. We can't endanger anyone's family like that. We do keep a trapped empty cabinet to keep them occupied though." Cause the world's full of idiots, and it's always good to remove a few.

"...But for the rest of it, well, let's start with the obvious. What does being a hero mean to you?"

Arthur Curry has posed:
Aquaman nods slightly Green Lantern. "Yeah, we let you have a normal life. We're not like other groups. We let you be independant and all of that, but the main rules are watch over your fellow Leaguer. If they need help, answer. Can't go wrong from there." He smirks then for a bit.

"Fair enough. Just saying, things can get crazy fast, even if you look like you can move a building." Aquaman then crosses his arms and lets GL do the interview.

Karen Starr has posed:
Karen shifts her attention to linger on Hal. It's a professional thing to do- but she does give Arthur a calm shake of her head. "Right. That's what I thought." she states shaking her head quietly. She'd been making a joke, of course, but the idea of the League having red tape wasn't exactly a foreign concept.

The question calls her to quiet for a moment or two. She tries to think about what He'd say. She hopes she gets it right. "Responsibility. Some of us have been given these... Gifts. So much that others would call it impossible. In the end, because of that, we're given the choice of what to do with them. To me, it always seemed like there was only ever one answer."

Hal Jordan has posed:
Green Lantern nods. "Responsibility. Yeah. I feel that all the time. Extra because I'm a space cop on top of it all. Hmmm. In tight situations, you usually have to make a choice on who to save first, as some of the villains and monsters out there don't really care, they're just causing mayhem. So...given the following choice, who would you save first? A kid, a friend, or 3 random people standing over there?" He always hated this question himself. But he has to ask it anyway.

Karen Starr has posed:
"Okay." she states, offering this sigh. One blue-gloved hand comes up to pinch at the bridge of her nose. "We're not pulling any punches, huh?" Unfurling her crossed arms and placing them on her hips, she offers this shrug. "I think, at the end of the day, if I -had- to choose, and that situation is -decidedly- rare... It would be the child. I have to think at that point not just who I think needs to be saved the most, but... What the other four people would say. I think anyone, given the choice, would say the same."

Hal Jordan has posed:
Green Lantern looks a little wry. "That question doesn't really have a 'right answer.' People have chosen differently before and they still made it in. I've heard people claim they'd save the 3 because don't all 3 of them have families to go back to? I've heard people say the friend because what good is saving the day if you can't save people you care about? But yeah, most people pick the kid."

Hmmm. What next? Worse. "This one sucks too. A villain with telepathy powers has mindcontrolled your teammate to do terrible things. The telepath can't inflict much damage on his own, but your teammate can kill a lot of people. What's the most efficient way to minimize the damage to both the world...and your teammate's conscience?"

Karen Starr has posed:
Power Girl considers that for a few moments, but her answer is pretty swift. It doesn't seem like this one bothers her as much, perhaps at all. "In the end it's two things. Most importantly, it's all eyes on me. I can take it. If the planet can't, we take it somewhere else, but the focus has to be me. Second... A broken jaw and a bruised ego are better than the alternatives. Sometimes, you just have to help somebody take a nap."

Hal Jordan has posed:
Green Lantern agrees. "Yep. That's how I thought of it too. A bruised ego is NOTHING to the weight on your soul of taking a life, even if it was somebody else making you do it. Last time we had something like that happen, the ego wasn't even bruised. He was grateful we stopped him before he could do something he'd never forgive himself for." Doesn't mention who it was. Probably a privacy thing...and a memory nobody would want shared.

This question was lighter. "Congratulations, you just stopped the villain and saved the day. What're the first 3 things you do?"

Karen Starr has posed:
Karen nods along with that bit of exposition. "That seemed more straightforward than the last one, but I think it's pretty important." Keeping her casual posture, Power Girl awaits the next question, and responds almost instantly, at least at first. "Well, first thing is to make sure that everyone's okay. 'Stopped the villain and saved the day' doesn't necessarily mean that people are safe. That's the most important thing. Second thing... Make sure there isn't somewhere else I'm urgently needed. The cleanup, I know this sounds lazy, but it can be handled by people with machinery if it needs to be. Sometimes you don't get a chance to rest, you know?" Offering a shrug, then, she continues. "The -least- important thing, probably go home. Have a shower, get cleaned up, relax. Can't burn the candle at both ends and in the middle unless you're Batman."

Hal Jordan has posed:
The comment about Batman gets a laugh. "Hahaha. That's Batman alright. He glares at any and all of us if we even mention the words day and off in the same sentence. Fortunately, we outvoted him, and we can take days off for life stuff and so on. There's enough of us to cover for anyone who needs it. We're just people. People with fancy extras, but people nonetheless." Back to the rest of it. "Yeah, check for safety first. You're gonna be especially good at that...there's usually debris everywhere, but you'll be able to see through it to find people who might be trapped. You're also right that as long as no lives are in danger, clean up crews are plenty. You do wanna check the place over two or 3 times for lives in danger before you take off though. Whether you do it by X Ray Vision or I do it by Ring, it amounts to the same thing. No one left behind. And yeah, you're right again. It's not always the case...it often depends on the city. If you're in Gotham, there's always like 5 more crimes happening any given time, and people that aren't HIM run themselves ragged trying to stop it all. In Metropolis, you might have consecutive emergencies...more days you won't, though. It'll usually be one big incident."

"And definitely don't forget the go home part. We all have loved ones. That's what secret identities are for, so we can safely have loved ones." Pause. "A thing I might've added, though, is making sure the villain's in custody. No, he's not as important as the safety of others, but sometimes the police are ill equipped to transport the villain you just defeated, so you might have to help them get the villain into an area sufficiently secured to hold him."

"Alright....let's turn this for a moment. What do you want to ask me, after all this?"

Karen Starr has posed:
Power Girl chuckles. "You seem to have a good grasp of the things I can do. That's... Useful." she states, folding her arms up again. It's probably pretty easy to just assume that she's another one of the people pretending- no matter how accurately- to be Kryptonian in Clark's absence. She has that air about her, after all. "Well, that's all well and good." Giving it a moment to rest, she takes that time to properly think about the last question she'd been posed. Admittedly, Hal can't really be aware of her past- and isn't aware of why she'd have no real questions for the League or its representative.

"Only... One, really. Are we done? This seems like the wrap-up portion of the interview."

Hal Jordan has posed:
Green Lantern chuckles, "Yeah, we can wrap it. I figured you might have questions about how the League works, or things like that." Green Lantern also heads to a desk and pulls out a communicator item. "We don't comprimise anyone's cellphone here, so we make official communicators instead. If you want to contact us, or you want to make yourself available if we're gathering a team together...we'll use these." He offers it to her.

Karen Starr has posed:
Karen extends her hand, plucking the small communicator up and wordlessly slipping it into a compartment on the forearm section of her gauntlet. When she has more privilege regarding League technology, she'll have to work on integrating it into her earrings with the rest of her communications. "Sounds like a plan. I'll be waiting on the call. You know where to find me."

At that, she offers a salute, and makes her way quickly- though not rushing- out of the front of the building. Before long, she'll be rising into the sky, and the echoing pop of her breaking the sound barrier will be a mild mystery on the ears of those who hear it.
