When Irish Are Conspiring...
Date of Scene: 01 August 2020
Location: Midtown
Synopsis: The Parker Family meet up with an Irish lady who joins them for a shopping trip.
Cast of Characters: Peter Parker, Siobhan Smythe

Peter Parker has posed:
This was a ritual, like many others "Aunt" May Reilly Parker had. Chestnuts at Christmas, dancing (even it if was just with Peter) when the ball dropped on New Year's Eve, and shopping for school clothes in August.
Classes began in a few weeks, and Aunt May was flush with excitement. "Peter, come on! We need to get you some decent clothes for your VERY first semester of college!"
The crickety old woman smiled, looking very stylish and energetic. Who would suspect she was just over 70? (No revelations, not if you want to go without apple pie for a month.)

The somewhat-average teenager that walks behind her looks a little aggrieved. "Yes, Aunt May."

Siobhan Smythe has posed:
It wasn't a ritual for Siobhan. She had been doing something entirely different from the pair that were rapidly approaching her position. She was just standing there, staring up into the sky. Thinking. Things were changing for her and more rapidly than she had expected. She wanted to escape the reality she was in for a moment. So, she came to Midtown and just put her hands in her pockets and thought about things. That is. Until she heard the pair approaching and she looks over with a blink. She smirks at Peter and then she frowns and looks down before saying, "Don't get too upset, boyo." She states to Peter, "Not so bad a ting to have someone watchin' out for ya."

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter blinked at the young woman with the short silver hair and the lively eyes, nearly the same color blue as Aunt May's.
Aunt May, however, was entranced. "I should hope so, young miss. You have a very lovely accent, much like my mother's. Are you from Ireland?" She asks the last with some degree of hope.
"Aunt May..." Peter said uncomfortably. She was always doing this, meeting up with complete strangers. Well, he did it too, but he was usually wearing a mask when he did.

Siobhan Smythe has posed:
A blink over at May and she grins, "Well, I certainly didn't get dis accent from Russia." She grins and nods her head before shrugging and looking toward Peter with a chuckle. She knows all about family that was too nice. Her father could be the same way. She looks the woman over before adding, "Your ma was from Ireland den? Which part did she hale from?"

Peter Parker has posed:
Aunt May BEAMS, and Peter knows that look well. He's worn it himself a few times while making nice with similar geniuses.

"Well, now, she was from the Rebel County. Lived in the shadow of Dunlough Castle, and left for America during the Irish Civil War, in 1922." Aunt May gazed at Siobhan with fond warmth. "Faith, where are my manners? May Parker, but my friends all call me Aunt May, and like as not you'll call me the same." She stepped aside to reveal the young man with the brown hair, brown eyes, and startled look on his face. "And this is my nephew, Peter Parker."

Siobhan Smythe has posed:
A nod to the woman and then she gestures to herself, "I'm Siobhan." She nods to herself, "Siobhan Smythe." She then looks to Peter and nods to him before adding, "And I don't really have a nickname to be called by so Siobhan will work just fine." She shrugs before saying, "My family comes from Dublin." She adds and nods her head.

Peter Parker has posed:
Aunt May chuckles, then says in accented Irish, <Keep good company and you'll be counted one of them.> She winks, then says, "Pleased to meet you, Siobhan. Peter is going to Empire State University, and as such he is going to need new and proper clothes."
"She...doesn't need to know the whole story..." Peter says, blushing a little and looking uncomfortable.
"Nonsense, she's good people. I have an EYE for such people." She chuckles as she looks back to Siobhan. "He's a very bright young man, but he is a little sheltered. His parents, bless their souls, left him with me and Benjy, and I'm proud to be as a mother to him."
"You'll have to forgive my Aunt May, she is blessed with an adorable excess of PERSONALITY," Peter pipes up, a little bit of snark in the dutiful young man.

Siobhan Smythe has posed:
"Ah, I see. I suppose it's someting ya just like ta do den." She nods her head and then grins at Peter, "Your first year so ya just must be 18? Well, I won't hold it against ya that your Aunt dresses ya." She winks at him before laughing, "As I said, dough. You'll miss it." She nods her head and grins at May before shrugging, "Not everybody lasts forever." She nods again and shrugs before she looks around briefly before askin', "Where abouts were you going to get clothes?"

Peter Parker has posed:
Aunt May chuckles. "Well, since Peter just got his first paycheck from his new job, we are eschewing the trip to Wal-Mart and finding something a little less utilitarian and a little more stylish."
"Yeah, we're staying away from store brands this year."
"He needs to put his best foot forward. After all, an IQ of..."
"She...doesn't need to know that, Aunt May. My teachers do. Jeez, you throw around that number a lot."
"It IS a big number."
"ANYWAY, Siobhan..." Peter smiles. "You seem more stylish than me. What are good brands for clothes?"

Siobhan Smythe has posed:
A smirk as she listens and she shakes her head. She chuckles softly before shrugging and looking over to Peter, "Brand names are stupid." She states and nods her haed to him, "Wear what you like and what you enjoy wearin." She nods her head, "I do most of my shoppin' based on what I tink will feel good and look good on me. Best to just enjoy yourself instead of tryin' to find a good brand."

Peter Parker has posed:
Aunt May looks to Peter. "I did tell you this."
"Yes, Aunt May. Remember the first day of high school?"
"That was high school, this is college."
Peter sighs. "Sorry. I hope we're not being bothersome."
"Perhaps she might wish to come with us?"
"Aunt MAY...?"
"Hush, you obviously want the opinion of someone closer to your age." Aunt May turned to Siobhan. "If you have nothing pressing, would you care to join us? I offer you lunch at what is supposed to be the best hot-dog stand in New York."

Siobhan Smythe has posed:
A smirk as she listens to the back and forth again before looking to Peter and grinning, "de trick isn't to get brand name. Da trick is to make your own style and den not care." She shrugs, "Of course, I haven't cared what people tink of me for a while." She laughs and then smiles at May, "If you wish and Peter's ok wit' it." She nods to him and shrugs, "Besides, who can pass up free food?"

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter smiled slightly. "Well, as long as none of it ends up on the Book of Faces, I could use a second opinion."
"Then it's settled." She points to the large department store with MACY'S on the wall overlooking the street. "Clothing first, then lunch. I hope you like chili dogs, Siobhan. I found a liking for them soon after I arrived here."

Peter is getting an odd vibe from Siobhan. She's not an imminent threat, but there is some kind of latent thing that is something of a tickle at the nape of his neck.
But she was invited, and she seems normal...

Siobhan Smythe has posed:
"Sounds good." She agrees with May and then looks back to Peter with a nod and then she shrugs, "Lets go." She then considers him a moment. There's something there. She can hear sounds better than anyone. She often listens to understand people around her and there's a slight increase to Peter's heart rate that makes her pause. She shrugs and then starts into the clothing store with them.

Peter Parker has posed:
The shopping assumes a certain dynamic. Peter seems interested in clothing that is moderately-fashionable without becoming an inherent slave to style. But he tends to pick sizes that are...a little too large for his frame, quite frankly. Baggy shirts, loose-fitting jeans. No snug t-shirts. Large coats.

He also tends to head into the dressing room and not come out unless Aunt May wants to see how certain things look on him.
"Peter's always been a little bashful," Aunt May explains as Peter heads into the dressing room for the third time. "What do you do, Miss Smythe?"

Siobhan Smythe has posed:
A smirk as she watches things get picked out and then she seems to nod to some and to others a shrug. She just waits for him to finish picking things out before looking over at Aunt May and blinking a bit at him. She chuckles, "I sing." She nods her head, "And play guitar." She shrugs, "I have several places where I play somewhat regularly now." She nods her head and crosses her arms, "Keeps me busy and happy."

Peter Parker has posed:
Aunt May nods sagely. "I am sure you are very talented to make a livelihood of that, Siobhan. Benjy had the singing voice in this family. I canna carry a tune to save my life, and Peter..."

"Peter sings like a walrus giving birth to FARM EQUIPMENT," Peter says as he steps out, wearing a dress shirt and black slacks that pool slightly around his ankles. "Well? Good enough for Sunday church?"
Aunt May smiles. "What do you think, Siobhan?"

Siobhan Smythe has posed:
A look to May and she smiles a little before she looks back to Peter and blinks. She tilts her head before asking, "Are ye goin' to church in it?" She asks and tilts her head even as she shifts her weight to her other foot and looks him over, "Cause, I am not sure dat it's necessary to dress in your Sunday best for college." She nods her head and looks over at May before looking back to Peter, "Unless dat college has a dress code?"

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter smirks. "We go to Forest Hills Presbyterian every Sunday. My dress shirts are getting a little frayed."
Aunt May nods. "We've been getting by for the most part, but with Peter's new job, we find ourselves being able to handle the necessities more adeptly. Turn around, Peter."
Peter dutifully does a 360-degree turn.
"Peter...have you been exercising?"
Peter freezes. "Well, I have to keep in shape with my job the last couple of years."
Aunt May ahs and nods. "Yes, of course." She looks to Siobhan. "He's the one who takes all those pictures of Spider-Man for the DAILY BUGLE."

Siobhan Smythe has posed:
A nod and she nods again, "I see. Not really been keepin' up with such tings. I've only been here a couple of months and my schedule has been ratter busy." She nods her head before looking back to Peter, "Dan I suppose dat works out quite well for someone goin' to church." She nods her head with a chuckle.

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter nods and heads back to the dressing room.
Aunt May, ever the curious sort, leaned slightly towards Siobhan. "Just arrived, then? Well, New York City is the best place to be. It was good enough for my mother, after all." She looks thoughtful. "Listen, please don't take this the wrong way. But should you ever need any help, I know some people in my neighborhood willing to give of their own to someone in need." She smirks. "And no, I'm not trying to matchmake for Peter. He has his own lady, one very near and dear to his heart."

Siobhan Smythe has posed:
A smile is given to May and she laughs, "No worries." She states simply enough, "I have plenty of help already, I assue you." She nods again, "I have met quite a few very helpful people but I do appreciate the kind gesture." She then looks to teh room and back to May, "And I'm not sure Peter is my type anyway."

Peter Parker has posed:
Aunt May chuckles. "Perhaps not. But he grew up right, which is all a parent can ask of their children. And I have been his mother in all the ways that matter for the last 14 years." She looks to Siobhan. "Are your parents back in the auld sod, as my dear mother would say?"

Siobhan Smythe has posed:
A frown and she shakes her head, "My parents are gone." She states simply enough and nods her head, "Sorry, to be a downer but me ma died when I was younger and me pa was only a couple of years ago." She nods her head and shrugs as she looks down a little, "Kinda why I'm here. Not much left for me back home. My bro is even gone." She chuckles, "Kinda seemed like a time to leave."

Peter Parker has posed:
Aunt May nods thoughtfully. "Well, I'll say a prayer for your parents, and that you have found people you can call kin." She smiles encouragingly. "You seem like you're on an even keel, for what it's worth..."
