Life's a Beach
Date of Scene: 07 August 2020
Location: Brighton Beach
Synopsis: Sunset on the beach brings some people together, with a side of icebergs.
Cast of Characters: Nessa Donovan, Bart Allen, Johnny Storm, Pandora Peters, Namor

Nessa Donovan has posed:
New York's got a surprising number of beaches, some more well-used than others. The easier to reach ones typically become crowded with people, but most people tend to clear out before it gets dark. Sunset on the beach, though, leaves some people to linger and take a break. It's particularly lovely from the dock that stretches out from the boardwalk path along the beach, high up and far out over the beach and the water. It's a great place to watch the sunset and icebergs.

Icebergs? More accurately, they're too small to be icebergs. Chunks of ice floating around that sort of look like icebergs bob in the waves, fairly visible from both the dock and other vantage points. Some of them vaguely look like they have shapes or carvings in them, though it's hard to tell without being right up next to one. There are somewhere between a half-dozen and a dozen, and they seem pretty hefty. If they broke off of something, it must have been big. While they're very visible, their creator is not.

Tucked underneath the dock, where she's only really visible by someone down on the beach, Nessa seems to be practicing a few things while out of view. Dressed in jeans and a tanktop, her arms and hands are uncharacteristically bare, though her jacket and gloves rest near a clump of washed up seaweed, not far from reach.

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen has come out for a walk along the beach. He has been told he needs to have more life as Bart than Impulse, and he is trying to. So today he is walking barefoot along the beach wearing a pair of shorts and a muscle Tee with the Road Runner on it saying Beep Beep. He walks along and stops upon seeing the mini icebergs "What the, the mini freeze aint supposed to happen till the 2050s" He will move up the beach to get a better look.

Johnny Storm has posed:
What's great about being Johnny Storm, aside from being rich, universally loved, handsome, famous, and many other things, is that he doesn't have to worry about people finding out who he is when he goes out and about, so his arrival to the beach is as flashy as one could expect, and rather than in a fancy sports car, this time he arrives in a streak of fire from the sky, landing on the boardwalk not far away as the fires vanish from him, leaving him in a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and designer sunglasses!

Pandora Peters has posed:
"This is the place." Pandora says into her notepad gps, as she brings the old beater to a halt in the parking lot near by with a metallic screech of the brakes. She rocks against the steering wheel as the rocking motion transfers into the cab and the mage is brought to a stop finally after the car.

Not trying to hide her nature, Pandora climbs out of the car, holding a black note pad up, and holds it up to the horizon and nods to herself with affirmation. The notepad is folded shut and put away into a pouch on her belt. Pandora rolls her neck to pop it and then reaches back into the car to pull out her cup of starbucks and moves to stand on the beach in her WAND outfit standing out like a sore thumb.

The woman gets to the waves and pauses, watches the water break near her toes and receed back to the ocean and she takes a sip, studying the icebergs.

Namor has posed:
Boardwalks.. People. Icebergs.

Whose to say which of these three things are unusual occurrences where the Surface World joins the sea? Air breathers are an odd people, doing things like building jutting piers over the water without any real intention of mooring boats along side them. Perhaps they like the look of small icebergs, where they pose no risk to the safety of their cruise liners but let them imagine the world isn't melting out from under their feet. It's all the same to Namor, really. He barely even glances at the miniature outcroppings of ice as he strides from the ocean as if he were on no more than a morning stroll. Of course, his head emerges first, then his bare shoulders, chest, and torso. No doubt he draws looks from any nearby beach goers as green-and-black clad legs carry him from the waves, bare feet sifting into the sand with every step. As he walks, his dark gaze casts about around him, but nothing seems interesting enough to slow his steps until he sees a familiar streak of fire in the distance, landing to resolve into the shape of Johnny Storm. His lips curl down in a faint grimace, but he's not here for a fight, and so elects to start turning his steps towards the Fantastic Human Torch rather than immediately launching into a verbal or physical spar.

Nessa Donovan has posed:
The icebergs, when studied up close don't look like actual icebergs. They're more large chunks of ice with little designs in them, like someone might doodle on a page. A half-finished game of tic-tac-toe (missing all the Os that should be there), some with smiley faces and stick figures, like a graffiti'd piece of ice. Others seem to have intricate swirling designs, looking like it could have come right out of a engraved page of something Celtic or Irish. They seem to float with no real direction... they're just ice.

Nessa, while her hands are out, isn't touching the ice in front of her. It's just nearby, and her hands are held more like she's working with clay than using some ability. The clay's just... not clay. She seems unaware of anyone who might be drawing nearby, mostly busy with what she's doing.

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen will look over and he notices the Human Torch and the man from the water. His brow raises a bit more as he watches them a moment. He does notice the woman under the pier as he walks along and hmms. He studies them for a moment, seeing if there seems any connection.

Johnny Storm has posed:
"Well, this is a surprise." Johnny says as he sees Namor striding up towards him, flashing a bit of a cocksure grin towards the Atlantean with the winged feet as he moves to rest his hands on his hips, any interest in the weird icebergs temporarily gone as he greets the old frenemy of the family, "What brings you to Brighton Beach today? Looking to visit Coney Island?"

Pandora Peters has posed:
A lift of her brown eyebrow towards Namor walking out of the sea very much like how she was about to walk on it herself. "Evening." Pandora says towards Namor as he walks past as if that was the most natural thing to do in the moment and with a lift of her cup to take another sip, she takes a step back, and kneels onto a single knee. Bending at the waist and twisting her cup into the sand to use a make shift cup holder, Pandora reaches forward into the grains, pushing her palms into the silt.

"Perfect." She mumbles as a circle forms and several chunks of sand within the small four foot circle become like glass and with a motion, Pandora stands back up and steps forward onto her circle, but then it's seen moving beneath the sand beneath her white boots.

Pandora begins to walk on her spell out onto the ocean and closer towards an iceberg herself. "Oh, shoot." She says, looking over her shoulder at the cup she left in the sand and shrugs, she should be back before the tide can wash away her joe.

Namor has posed:
"I know nothing of Coney Island," Namor tells Johnny as he takes the few steps necessary to enter into a more conversational distance with the Pyrokinetic. "I am here on Business." With a capital 'B.' Undoubtedly he means the business of ruling Atlantis, though what it might have to do with Brighton Beach he doesn't explain. Instead he turns back towards the beach and casts his gaze about, noting once more the miniature ice sculptures floating near the shore. "What are those?" he asks after a moment, pointing them out to Johnny, curiosity piqued as he realizes that other Surface Dwellers are reacting with a similar interest. He's ignorant of the Air Breathers' ways, not stupid. It's obvious they stand out now that he's taken a second to observe the locals. A pause, then he looks back to Johnny and smiles faintly, his eyes turning to glance over the other man's shoulder as he asks: "And where is your sister?"

Nessa Donovan has posed:
It isn't until there's a shove of cold air to push the current iceberg into the water that Nessa notices there are some people in a vague proximity in her area. The iceberg, with engraved etchings that look like ancient cave drawings, floats out into the water, propelled with a little push as it floats down the beach on the waves. She moves quickly for her jacket to pull it and her gloves on. Safety first, after all. She stops to listen, trying to figure out who's around her and what, exactly, is going on.

Johnny Storm has posed:
A little gesture from the Human Torch is made as he indicates the amusement park, probably visible in the distance from where they are, "That's Coney Island." He says with a chuckle, "Probably not your scene, in retrospect." He says with a nod of his head, "If you need any help with your business, finding who you need to talk to, don't hesitate to ask."

Johnny's attention shifts towards the baby icebergs again as the attention is drawn to them by Namor, "And I think it might be date night with Reed, that's probably where Sue is. Though I could have mixed up the month." He muses with a little shrug, "And those seem to be icebergs, don't they. That's curious."

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen notices the woman looking back at her coffee, and looks around and then with a blur of speed he is off, cup picked up and set down beside her foot as she steps forward. With his speed it just seems to almost appear. He is then blurs back to where he was. He tries to make like he has not movied but starts walking again towards Nessa.

Pandora Peters has posed:
Pandora seems to walk on water as she, walks on, water... The woman seems unphased by the musings going on and the superhero royalty around her. No, the WAND agent has an objective and work to do. A glance down to double check her spell is holding and Pandora cants her head to the side as she suddenly spies her coffee cup sitting on the same spell she is standing on. "What tha...?" Pandora falls, and hits onto her own spell, half submerged in the icy waters of the atlantic and holding onto nothingness like it was a cliff. A grunt and a groan as she pulls herself back up onto her spell and her concentration going back to full as she stands back up, coffee cup in hand this time and a glance back at those on the shore.

Someone moved this... Pandora considers but then she's near enough that she can almost touch an ice berg that seems to be moving much more rapidly than the others and a simple motion and a subtle gust of wind brushes into the berg to stop it before Pandora and she can fianlly examine what is going on.

Namor has posed:
Namor glances towards the horizon as Johnny points it out, brow knitting together until he works out what it is. "No, not exactly," he murmurs his agreement when it's pointed out that the King of Atlantis probably isn't one to frequent amusement parks. He then looks back to the Human Torch and frowns faintly, considering the man carefully for signs of deception or duplicity, eventually coming to the conclusion that his offer of help was legitimate. "I'll be fine," he grunts, brusque but not unkind as he looks over towards the City itself, concluding more quietly: "They can't hide from me forever."

His mood is soured at the mention of Reed, but he waves his hand dismissively in an attempt to make it clear just how little he actually cares what the pair get up to. "Those are not icebergs. I have seen icebergs. Those are..." A pause as the King tries to define what exactly it is that seems to be appearing out from under the pier. "Not icebergs," he eventually decides upon, unable to figure out a more fitting description. With a grunt, he turns away from the odd phenomena and nods to Johnny once, just a hint of familiarity before he turns back to the City and launches himself into the air, taking off into its depths on whatever mysterious business he's up to.

Nessa Donovan has posed:
Those are certainly not icebergs. But they're cute and creative. They appear to be just ice with drawing and designs, though there's the slightest trace of magic from their creation.

Nessa, jacketed and gloved, moves towards the beach in the direction Bart's coming from. Behind her under the dock is a groove where the ice had been slid into the water. Her attention is drawn towards Pandora first, though, mostly because there's some kind of magic going on and lately she's a bit on edge about that. "You aren't trying to take over the city with whatever you're doing there, right? Just asking for a friend."

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen looks over and says "Who ya thinking is trying to take over the city?" He will ask as he gets close enough to hear Nessa's question "Is someone threatening you, do you need help? For a normal guy he seems a but protective of ladies perhaps?

Johnny Storm has posed:
With the dramatic departure of Namor leaving Johnny alone, he starts his way down towards where the ice sculptures are coming from, and, coincidently, where Nessa and everyone else is converging together. He'll have a grin come to his lips as he spots the familiar form of Nessa amongst the congregating people!

Pandora Peters has posed:
Pandora, in her blue and black and white WAND attire looks over her shoulder back towards the beach several yards back and takes a sip of her coffee idly before responding back to Nessa, "I've come quite a long way to study these miniature bergs, and that's all I'm doing. Hopefully I can gleam a source or even a purpose for these things. They seem quite benign but, I'm not one for taking chances." The agent says before she turns her attention back towards the ice block.

Pandora lifts her hand, to brush against the surface lightly, another simple spell, she's simply trying to detect any magical residue on or around the iceberg, curious what she could learn with a simple scan.

Nessa Donovan has posed:
"I'm not /thinking/ someone's got nefarious plans for the city, I /know they do," Nessa points out. "But threatening me in particular? Not that I know of. No more than anyone else is ever threatened." She gives Bart a smile, but her attention shifts to Johnny for a moment. "If you ever want to play hero, I know a real good place to do it." Then, she looks to Pandora, offering a grin. The iceberg's only got trace amounts of magic from its creation, ice elemental in nature, and the ice itself feels, looks, and acts as if it were natural. "If you think those are cool, I know some stuff a lot more interesting to look at."

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen 's brow raises a bit and says "What kind of thing do you know of where someone is needs helping?" He looks around at the other three people, and hmms quietly. He wonders if he might need to let another ask the question.

Johnny Storm has posed:
"I heard something about Ice Monsters or the like." Johnny says as he comes to a stip nearby, reaching to pull his designer shades from his face and hook them into the collar of his t-shirt, "Though, when it comes to heroics, there's not much playing involved!" He says with a little grin, nodding his head towards Bart, then the Wand woman in turn.

Pandora Peters has posed:
Pandora looks back over her shoulder and finally disregards the iceberg she looked at and turns around fully to begin walking back to shore on the soft waves. Nope, nothing unusual there.

Pandora stops on the beach and gives Johnny, Bart, and finally Nessa a kindness of noding and then with a check of her watch, Pandora reaches into one of the pouches. She then presents Nessa a rather boring looking business card, one that counters the whole outfit and walking on water trick she just did. "If you would like to discuss who and what, and anything else more privately, get a hold of me here and I'll make sure the problem is solved." Pandora says with such authority and promise it's like she's already completed the job. The wizard then nods again to everyone before she steps past and moves back towards the parking lot, towards her car.

Nessa Donovan has posed:
"Well good, at least you take it seriously. If you took a walk through Woodlawn Cemetery and cleared anything ice-related that's not supposed to be there out, I'm pretty sure the city wouldn't mind," Nessa directs towards Johnny, but she lets her attention turn back to Bart for a minute. "If you're looking to help, the same goes for you. Big ice skeletons, real nasty axes." She tucks Pandora's business card away in a pocket after looking at it. "Sure, problem solved. As if it were that easy."

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen hmms and says "Are they from the ice castle? I saw it in town, but had not heard what happened, do we have some type oof ice wizard trying to take over the city, and freeze it to our doom?

Johnny Storm has posed:
"Well, we'll take some time to go and check it out, melt down a few skeletons and stuff." Johnny says with a grin at Nessa, watching the WAND woman off before looking back to the two. He gives a nod of his head towards Bart, "Nice to meet you."

Nessa Donovan has posed:
"Ice wizard..." Nessa actually seems to think about that for a moment. "Maybe, but more pressingly there's more of an ice monster, I think. Don't go into the ice castle unless you'd like the city to be a whole big magic disaster zone, but the skeletons at Woodlawn are fine, you're just preventing people from being hurt if you take them out. The rest of it is... well, it's a complicated investigation. But I'm not stopping anyone from taking a few of those things down."

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen hmmms, and says "Bart." in introducing himself tot he two. "So, I know Mr. Storm here is a superhero, are you as well?" He will ask Nessa. I went into the castle before it seemed neat. Someoen had a bunny made of snow.

Johnny Storm has posed:
"Howdy, Bart." Johnny gives a nod of his head towards the youngster before looking to Nessa, "Stay out of the ice palace... got it." He says with a bit of a hmmn at that and he hmmns softly, "I can certainly melt a few skeletons though, that's for sure."

Nessa Donovan has posed:
Nessa blinks. "Yeah, that was me, with the ice bunny. Did we meet at some point? I'm Nessa." She seems to be doing her best to remember when she could have possibly met him that she almost forgets to answer the superhero question. "Oh. Uh. I guess? I mean, I helped save the city ones, not that anyone has any idea about that. Magic tends to be a little..." She wiggles her hand a bit. "Sometimes people don't know what happens with what they don't see." She glances to Johnny. "Think I need a superhero name or something?"

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen looks over and says "I always was told superheroes need code names to protect those they care about it is like superhero 101 or something. Mind you I never understood while Mr. Storm and his friends were public with their names. It always confused me." He admits trying not to speak of the castle again, as he was in costume then.

Johnny Storm has posed:
"It never hurts for branding!" Johnny says with a laugh at Nessa's question, shrugging his shoulders a little bit, "You could go with Ice Bunny! Get a costume designed along those themes." He chuckles, "And There's something to that probably, though my entire family are super heroes, and we didn't really have a template to work with when we were thrust into the spotlight when Doom attacked our building. It's personal preference though, do you want to hide who you are for one reason or another, or do you want to live in the public and not have to worry about being discovered. There are given and takes to both."

Nessa Donovan has posed:
"That assumes I have people to protect," Nessa points out. "Or that the people around me can't protect themselves. So I guess it's not really necessary." She turns her head towards Johnny. "On second thought, no costume, no codename. /Ice Bunny/? Really?" She rolls her eyes. "I'm not really sure that I'm always gonna be in the public eye either. Like I said, magic stuff tends to be less... obvious?" She glances around. "Saved this city the other day, all heroic-like, nobody's gonna know."

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen says, "Well now, we know, but I won't tell anyone, and I think he is a good fellow so your probably safe there too"

Johnny Storm has posed:
"Well it was the first thing that came to mind." Johnny says with a little shrug of his shoulders, "And, if you change your mind, I can hook you up with some management type folks." He says with a grin at her before he nods to Bart, "Yep, her secret's safe with me." He says, doing the lips sealed zipping gesture with his hands.

Nessa Donovan has posed:
"Yeah, but no one would believe you if you said anything anyway, people like big obvious explosions for heroes," Nessa says, then looks towards Johnny, one hand on her hip. "Trust me, I don't think I'd be great for the whole celebrity hero thing, but I appreciate the thought. Hell, I don't think I'm so great at the /regular/ hero thing. I just keep ending up in the right place at the wrong time and needing to help. I'm just glad the people don't think all this ice stuff is my fault."

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen looks over and says "So, you have ice powers?" He asks in confirmation. "Aint the hero thing really just helping when it is needed no matter what is needed?" He will look around "Did you make the mini bergs?"

Johnny Storm has posed:
"Hey, you never know until you put yourself out there." Johnny counters to Nessa's comment, "I think you've got what it takes, though, if you don't actually want some of the limelight, ride it out in the shadows as long as you can!"

Nessa Donovan has posed:
"Yeah, I've got ice powers. The icebergs are me, I was practicing some stuff. There's a lot going on and I want to make sure I'm at my best." Nessa adjusts her gloves a bit. "All the weird ice stuff going on? Not me. So you can be sure to tell them it's not me if you hear anyone saying otherwise." There's a lot of concern there, even if it hasn't come up yet. "Well, maybe I'll put myself out there a bit more when no one's being seriously endangered with ice related things."

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen nods a bit to this and says "Well that sounds cool, and I won't make the Disney reference." He offers with a smile, and those who know him might realize that is a feat in of itself. You might want to try to find some other heroes to practice with always good to have team tactics down.

Johnny Storm has posed:
It's about this time that Johnny's phone rings and he brings it up to his ear to answer it, "Hey, sorry to cut this all short, but I got to jet!" Johnny says then exclaims, "Flame On!"

The man bursts into flame rather suddenly with that, and he offers a little fiery wave before launching himself into the sky with a trail of flames as he zooms off towards the city!

Nessa Donovan has posed:
Nessa gives Bart a grateful look as he agrees not to make the Disney reference. She'll let any other intentional or unintentional ice related puns slide. "Thanks, I appreciate it. And I suppose I could find some people to practice some team things with. It's not been too hard so far." She has a few ideas anyway. As Johnny heads off, she offers a general wave. "Hopefully the world's not ending." She glances to Bart. "I should probably head off too, I have someone I have to go pick up pizza for."

Bart Allen has posed:
Bart Allen nods, and says "A pleasure meeting you." He will tell her. "I'll let you head and continue my walk then, have a good one." He offers and turns to head up the beach.
