Date of Scene: 11 August 2020
Location: Copperpot Diner
Synopsis: Nessa speaks to the mage Tristan about the Ice Palace trouble, and Loki's name comes up.
Cast of Characters: Loki, Nessa Donovan

Loki has posed:
"I like strawberry the most," chatters Tristan, as he licks his straw and looks down into his strawberry and vanilla ice cream float, stirring things around with his spoon.

"And also Oreo. That is a really good one too." Tristan, the young mage that Nessa found in the Ice Palace, is seated in the Copperpot diner, ankles crossed under the counter due to the high seat, eating his shake and a side of cheese fries.

Next to him on the stool to his left is a snowy fox, curled up on the stool. It's pure white, with most elegant fur.

Nessa Donovan has posed:
Nessa leans against the counter, sipping a root beer float herself as she glances over. "You've got good taste. I've got a sweet tooth myself..." She studies the condensation on her glass before she glances sidelong to Tristan. "You doing alright, all things considered? I know all this hasn't been easy. Hopefully we'll get everything sorted soon, I think, though there's a lot to do."

Loki has posed:
"I think I'm okay," Tristan answers, resting one elbow on the counter, though his gaze stays in the treat. "I haven't gotten the other students to answer me though, just Zelda. I'm not sure if they're okay anymore. Maybe we waited too long, and they're all... like Zelda would have been. If you guys hadn't helped her."

Tristan smiles a little. "She told me about it. I hope you're not mad..."

Nessa Donovan has posed:
"I'm not mad. I'm glad she's okay. I think at this point I just want to make sure they're all okay," Nessa says, stirring the drink with her straw. "We'll have to find the others as soon as we can. If it was getting that close to Zelda, it could be worse for the others. Depends on how far away from the palace they are."

She looks over at him. "We'll get this sorted. I appreciate your help with what you know. Zelda certainly could have been hurt without your help."

Loki has posed:
Tristan plugs his straw with his thumb to secure a bunch of the frothy drink inside it, and draws it out to place it on his tongue and eat it with childlike gusto. He's a kid, after all, and enjoying the sugary drink.

"I know a bunch about ice magic but... I mean, I can't do all that much, really. Not compared to Sorceror Vega." Tristan looks towards the fox, and indicates him. "He made this fox, I think. I mean, I didn't. And he's still here, so I hope the sorceror is still okay. That that's what it means."

The fox looks up when spoken about, with watercolor blue eyes, to observe them. "I think the fox is good luck, though."

Nessa Donovan has posed:
Nessa grins. "Sorcerer Vega's pretty good, self-proclaimed second best. Never told me who the best was." She takes a long sip from her drink, watching Tristan. "I know a bit. Always practicing, though. It's something I strive for. I didn't quite get to make something like a fox, but he gave me a bunny. I'm sure he'll be alright, we've got to get to the bottom of things. If he's okay, we'll save him."

She nods in his direction. "I'm gonna do my best to get you back somewhere safe. Everyone deserves a teacher."

Loki has posed:
"I know who it is," Tristan says, in a braggy way that is entirely befitting of a ten year old boy that knows something an adult doesn't know. But a grin follows. "D'you want to guess or should I just tell you?" Tristan asks. "I'll give you a hint; he's a /bad/ guy."

Tristan wrinkles his nose, and eats his fries. "So of the good mages that are awesome at ice stuff, that Sorceror Vega. If you want mages that are best at other things, though, there are others too. I'm pretty sure the Sorceror Supreme guy is best at the /most/ things."

Nessa Donovan has posed:
Nessa leans forward, but turns in the seat a little more towards Tristan. "A bad guy?" She certainly seems curious. "I'm not sure I'd be able to guess. There's a lot of bad people in the world. So tell me, I'm curious. I didn't think it was something I could just look up in a book."

She does grin at the mention of the Sorcerer Supreme. "I've met him. Very mystical. I wouldn't call us friends, but I can contact him if I need to. There's a few of us that are on good terms, help each other out. If... things go south, I'll see if I can find you a new teacher." She scratches her head. "I'll have to figure something out for me too."

Loki has posed:
"Sorceror Vega said it's Loki. Like. The god, from mythology or whatever," Tristan shares, with some of a bit of a shrug. Clearly the god and all of that stuff is outside of the scope of something Tristan has to worry about or think much about. It isn't like Loki would be around.

The fox adjusts his tail some, watching them, with a quiet, bored quality.

"I would LOVE to meet the sorceror supreme. That'd be really neat. ...Can we not talk about the sorceror being gone? I'm trying to just... keep up hope," Tristan adds.

Nessa Donovan has posed:
"Loki? As in the Loki that did all the damage to New York?" Not that she's certain Tristian would know much about that, but Nessa's pretty sure it's /that/ Loki. "If he's better than Sorcerer Vega... that's really impressive. The way the magic felt when the ice palace was first made? It was incredible. Hadn't really experienced anything like that before. So something more is..." She takes a long sip, trying to imagine something /more/.

"Sorry, I don't mean to make you lose any hope. It'll be alright. I think you'd like the sorcerer supreme, though. He's got sort of a confidence because he knows what he's doing. The kind of confidence that really carries someone. That would be nice to do someday... carry myself with that sort of confidence."

Loki has posed:
"Do you want to meet Loki?" questions the fox.

Tristan jerks back and across away from the fox in his surprise, which means he nearly falls into Nessa's lap and across her, and also spills some of his drink. "HE TALKS?" demands Tristan, in a mix of awe and being scandalized by this change of everything. "You talked," Tristan says at the fox, accusatory.

Nessa Donovan has posed:
Nessa nearly falls off her chair as well, but she catches Tristan before he can lose his balance. She peeks around him carefully towards the fox, also looking baffled. "Don't look at me," she directs at Tristan. "I didn't know it could talk." But her gaze is fixed on the fox, intensely curious. "I..." There's a moment where she seems to be considering if it's wise, but her expression softens after the moment passes.

"If he's really that powerful? Yes."

Loki has posed:
"Hm," says the Fox, as if finding that answer interesting. Perhaps the fox was only curious about what the answer was; if it was yes or no. Seems the ice fox is just going to relax there on the stool and look at them, satisfied that it got an answer to its question.

Tristan stares at the fox a bit longer, then looks back at Nessa with a sort of 'I have no idea either' look all over his face.

Nessa Donovan has posed:
There's a look Nessa shoots back to Tristan, looking confused. She then looks back to the fox, a little confused as to why it asked, or why it didn't follow it up with anything. She gives the fox a slow nod before she turns back to her drink, taking a long sip in confusion. "Right, uh, well. Question answered." She glances back to Tristan. "... how's the shake?"

Loki has posed:
Tristan can't pivot well, he stares at Nessa a little bit as if trying to understand how she can be okay with that. But then, he is a little mage... and crazy things DO happen a lot. So a talking fox isn't really crazy. It's more a betrayal that his lucky fox is maybe something more magical.

"Um, strawberry-y." Descriptive. Tristan isn't really that helpful right now, and is looking for Nessa to take leadership over the awkward elephant -- err, fox -- in the room.

Nessa Donovan has posed:
Nessa glances back to the fox, as if to check that it wasn't going to say anything more, before she looks to Tristan again. Given that he's not helping steer the conversation back to anything useful, she glances back to her drink. "How many more students did you say he had? We should find them quickly. I'll see if I can muster up some kind of crew to track things down." She offers him a smile. "Maybe you can practice some magic missiles."

Loki has posed:
"It isn't instantaneous," says the fox, as if the humans were being a bit silly about the situation, before rising to stand, and then hopping off the stool -- only to entirely vanish before touching the ground, as if it leaped into a magical hole in the air and disappeared.

Tristan observes that, and adjusts his placemat some with his fingers, watching the area the fox left into. "Ummmmm. I'm sort of freaking out a little here," Tristan admits softly to Nessa.

Nessa Donovan has posed:
"What do you mean it's not instantaneous?" Nessa says, her voice sounding just the slightest bit concerned and the concern seeming to grow more when the fox just leaves. She turns her attention fully to Tristan. "Yeah, that's okay, I'm not entirely sure what's going on myself. You... if anything weird happens, stick close, okay? I'll protect you. We'll work together as a team." She's suggesting it to assure him that in the case something does happen they'll be fine. She's not at all sure what 'not instantaneous' even means in this case. She reaches for her glass and sucks the last of it down with a straw.

Loki has posed:
"What's happening?" Tristan asks, starting to get more alarmed. He looks around them, pushing his shake away a little, and looks entirely uncomfortable. "What are you going to say? Why did you say yes?" worries the young mage. "I mean. Might still be nothing. I mean. He's not coming /here/." To the copperpot diner. It's just bizarre.

Tristan does sit back down fully, but doesn't look like he necessarily wants to.

Nessa Donovan has posed:
"Because if he's the most powerful ice mage in the world that's something I want to see, I guess," Nessa says. "Maybe ask him a question or two? He's not going to just kill us." She's not certain of that, but Tristan never needs to know. "But he could easily just walk right in here dressed in a fancy suit like it's nothing. I think it's more likely he'd come here than us suddenly drop into a portal. And 'not instantaneous' could mean days." She puts a hand on his shoulder. "Relax, regardless of what happens you're going to be okay. I promised Sorcerer Vega I'd keep you safe, after all."

Loki has posed:
"Yeah. I guess so. See it from maybe... more of a distance," suggests Tristan, but grins a little, taking a deep breath, and trying to settle back onto his seat. He laughs some, feeling silly. It's hard to actually imagine some villain or god showing up in the diner right then.

"What are you gonna say?" Tristan wonders of her, reaching back out to his glass, and re-freezing the slightly melted contents with a squeeze of his hand around the glass.

Nessa Donovan has posed:
"I sort of thought I'd have a little more time to formulate those sort of questions," Nessa admits. "I guess it's just... the more things that happen, like all this with Sorcerer Vega, it proves to me that I need to do more. There are people who need me. I've not thought of myself as a hero, but I don't let innocent people get hurt. /They/ need me." She traces the condensation on her glass with a gloved finger, watching the material absorb it.

"He's way more powerful than I could be, I'm sure, but I have potential. I guess I'd ask him what I had to do to be stronger. Maybe one day be better than Vega. If he's the best, he'll know."

Loki has posed:
"Yours is better," Tristan replies. "The best I had was to ask what sort of milkshake he likes best. I think it's a good judge of character. Can't trust somebody that likes banana or coffee," says the boy softly, looking at his strawberry choice, and then back to the door, as if anticipating a scary mage-god. But none comes.

"Maybe we do have some time," sighs the boy. He looks back to her. "Well, you helped me, right. So you're a hero."

Nessa Donovan has posed:
The idea of a looming Loki is a little creepy, but Nessa tries to shake off the thought. "That's a good question. You can tell a lot about people by their tastes in food. What toast do they prefer? How crispy? Butter and jam? Butter? Nothing?" She offers him a smile. "It would be interesting to see what he's like, magic questions aside. I certainly haven't met anyone like him up close."

Even though Tristan's glancing towards the door, she's letting it go. She'll just feel it out. It's hard to know what to expect in this case. His mention of being a hero gives her a small smile. "I just want to help the people who deserve it. There was no way I'd have left you in there, even if Sorcerer Vega hadn't asked me to help."

Loki has posed:
"We should stay together. Just in case," Tristan says, encouraging. Or maybe he's afraid and just doesn't want to be left again to his own devices cowering while his protector gets eaten by ice monsters.

Tristan gives a small smile, and a deep breath, and nods once, playing with the ice patterns on the outside of his glass.

No fox returns... they're just left with some worried anticipation. Of what /might/ happen.
