Magneto did What
Date of Scene: 14 August 2020
Location: Bobby's Room
Synopsis: Julio comes to visit Bobby and tells him about what happened with Magneto in Genosha.
Cast of Characters: Bobby Drake, Julio Richter

Bobby Drake has posed:
Thursday evening means that Bobby is in his room, chilling, figuratively. He has on a pair of earbuds and some music is playing while he sprawls out on his bed, eyes closed, lost in his own thoughts. There's a book next to him that he had been reading earlier -- The Night Bird, some kind of thriller, but it seems to have been abandoned for the moment as he drifts in and out, alternately dozing and listening to the tunes in his ears.

Julio Richter has posed:
There's a rattling tap at the door -- something rigid, rather than a set of knuckles -- and then Julio's voice, calling out, "It's me!" After a bit more rattling of metal on crockery, the knob turns and the door swings open. Julio has one hand on the knob and is holding two bowls with spoons somewhat awkwardly in his other hand.

"I brought dessert," he declares. "Mint chip or chocolate cherry?" As he comes in, the spoons slide around the rims of the bowls, and he quickly transfers one to his free hand to trap the silverware under his thumbs. He closes the door with a single bump from his butt.

He has shown up with an easy familiarity that might be a bit presumptuous, honestly, but he's hoping sweets will smooth things over if his interruption is unwelcome.

Bobby Drake has posed:
It's the rattling and opening of the door that stirs Bobby from his light doze and he blinks a little bit then sits up and pulls his earbuds from his ears with one finger with a pop. They dangle and there's some music coming out of them which he turns off, grinning a bit. "Ooh, ice cream, and a you. This night is already improving." He grins as he pulls himself up and slides to the edge of the bed holding out his hands for whichever one Julio seems inclined to give him. "How're you doing?" If Bobby even thought twice about Julio wandering into his room, he certainly doesn't show any signs of it.

Julio Richter has posed:
"Estoy bien, gracias a Dios" Julio answers with a half shrug and a rueful smile. "Better off than most of the people who were there when Magneto had his hissy fit. I have a mansion and ice cream and you to come back to." He sounds like he feels a little bit guilty about that, but he doesn't seem hesitant about enjoying those perks. He plops down on the edge of the bed readily enough, landing on Bobby's right and passing him the more convenient left bowl: mint.

"'Improving'?" he asks, turning to give Bobby a gently inquisitive look. "¿Hay algo mal? -- Nothing's wrong, is it?" He flashes a smile, then continues, "I can give you a nice backrub or something, too."

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby takes the bowl of mint and leans over to rest his chin on Julio's shoulder for a moment, brushing a kiss against his jaw as he says, "I'm glad that you're okay." Then he shakes his head and smiles at the question. "Oh, no, everything's fine. What day isn't improved by a hot boyfriend and ice cream?" He lifts both brows and grins a little bit sidelong. Then he lifts a spoon of ice cream and takes a bite before saying, "It sounds like you're the one more in need of a backrub. What happened with Magneto?"

Julio Richter has posed:
Julio colors slightly at being called 'hot,' bows his head, and snorts out a laugh -- he still treats compliments awkwardly, like gifts too fancy and expensive for him to actually use -- but he slides his free hand down to Bobby's thigh and gives it an affectionate squeeze. He gives a contented little hum at the kiss, but then winces as he answers, "Oh, Dios, am I the first person to freak out at you about it?"

A quick sigh, then he goes into the details: "He tore up the refugee camp -- took all the metal and half of the island, too, and made into some kind of rock that he flew into space. I kept the earthquake under control, but that was all I could do. He took a bunch of people with him, including Lorna... but he left way, way more behind. I don't know what they're going to do." He leans into Bobby's side, kisses his shoulder, and then says, "Lorna will be OK, though, right? He wouldn't hurt her, I don't think."

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby blinks very slowly as Julio tells him what happened and he just stares. "He.. tore up the refugee camp and.. flew into space?" They had worked /so/ hard to protect all the shipments. They had fought Hydra. They had fought off the Magistrates. He had watched Lorna go nuclear over all that work that they'd done. To hear that it had been torn apart leaves him kind of stunned. "I.." He pauses, and blinks again, and then says, "I.. don't think so. She's his daughter.. but why in Hell would he fuck up a refugee camp for his /own/ people? We worked so hard on that camp.. all of us." He'd spent months going back and forth to Genosha with Lorna and others. "Are.. the people okay?"

Julio Richter has posed:
Julio wasn't around for all of those efforts, but he can read the sense of loss in Bobby's eyes, and that's more than enough. He puts his untouched ice cream down, wraps his arms around Bobby's shoulders, and sets his nose and lips into the crook of his neck. "Lo siento, Bobby. I didn't realize you hadn't been told... I didn't want to bring you bad news."

He plants a couple of kisses there, on Bobby's neck, hoping to soften the blow of the rest of what he has to say. "The people weren't hurt, but the ones he left behind don't really have a place to stay. I think they might end up refugees all over again." His tone turns bitter as he adds, "And I know just how great most countries are about refugees, these days. I think he just decided Genosha had failed and he was going to do something... bigger. With his space rock. Maybe he heard about Superman's moonbase and got dick envy about it."

Bobby Drake has posed:
There's both loss and anger in Bobby as he listens in silence, a tension wound all through him that comes through in the drop in temperature around him. Some go hot when they get angry. Bobby goes cold, ice cold. His jaw tics and tightens as he thinks of all those people they'd worked to protect, now homeless all over again because the guy who had been "dead" while they'd been busy taking care of his people, came back and destroyed it. On the upside, there's no chance of his icecream melting with the frost that's forming around the bowl and the spoon.

"I hope Lorna tears him a new asshole," Bobby says. "If he was foolish enough to take her after what she went through to build that place, then I am pretty sure his rock in space is going to suffer a bit of wear for the effort." He'd bey very, very surprised if she took that lying down. He's seen what she's capable of. He takes several long, deep breaths and then lets them out slowly. "Okay.. Bobby.. there's nothing you can do about this right Now. Deep breaths." He is talking to himself more than anything else. "Tomorrow, I'll... see what we can do for the refugees... again." There's a certain degree of defeat in that statement, though. The last time, both Lorna and Pietro and a lot of backing went into their efforts.

Julio Richter has posed:
Bobby's usual aura of cool is one thing: familiar and refreshing, bringing fond associations for Julio, especially. This sharp chill is something else. Julio has never been around Bobby when he was truly angry; even during their encounter with Sabretooth, the man was determined, protective, and purposeful. There's a shiver in his own jaw, but he holds his boyfriend firmly, placing one palm over his chest in what he hopes will be a reassuring gesture. His breath still warms Bobby's neck as he speaks.

"I understand why he was angry, but it was just so... /petty/. Like an angry child smashing things because he didn't get his way," he agrees. "And those people that looked to him as their leader could be in a very bad place, now." He doesn't choose this moment to bring up just how fervently he once hoped to be just such a person. "I hope there's something we can do... maybe that new company the Professor made can help? I'm... I'm sorry, Bobby."

Bobby Drake has posed:
"I don't.. even understand why," Bobby says, seeming completely at a loss. "I can understand him being angry about what happened to Genosha, but why hurt its people even further?" His anger gives way slowly to bewilderment and disappointment, sadness for the people left behind in the wake of yet more devastation. "I just.." He trails off and shakes his head again. The chill begins to ebb as that initial wave of anger subsides, as does some of the tightness in his jaw. He covers Julio's hand on his chest with his own. "I hope Lorna's okay." It may seem strange that that wasn't his /first/ concern, but she's powerful in her own right, and he knows she can kick ass and take names. Still, that doesn't mean he's not concerned for her well-being. "I should call her.." Not that he thinks she has reception in space or anything but.. He grabs his phone anyway and sends her a text before setting it aside, not expecting to get a response any time soon. ""Maybe," he agrees when Julio suggests that the Professor's new company could possibly help. Finally, he just shakes his head slowly and says, "I'm glad you're okay and that nothing happened to you there, either." The only reason he's not more concerned about /that/ being that Julio walked in the door with a smile and bearing icecream. He turns his head and kisses Julio's temple. "Thank you for telling me. I.. hadn't heard."

Julio Richter has posed:
While Bobby taps the message into his phone, Julio squeezes the back of his boyfriend's neck, letting his fingers drift upward into his hairline. He doesn't think he can just ease away this upset, and he's not trying to; he's letting Bobby know that he's here for him, that he understands why this situation is so baffling. Bobby could storm around the room shouting and kicking things, and Julio would cheer him on. Hell, that's probably what Julio would be doing, if their positions were reversed.

"She didn't seem like she wanted to go, but she also didn't seem afraid," he says. "I don't think he was angry at her, just... maybe he doesn't show his pride in very healthy ways." He manages to snort out a sardonic laugh. "I know how that can be."

Finally, he lifts the hand from Bobby's chest, bringing the hand that Bobby put over it to his lips for a quick kiss to one knuckle. "I'm fine. Worst thing I had to worry about was a staring contest with Sabretooth. And with all the other people there, I wasn't too worried."

Bobby Drake has posed:
Except that Bobby doesn't storm around when he gets angry. Instead, he gets very quiet, and very cold. But having sent a message to Lorna and realizing that throwing a tantrum right /now/ isn't going to help anything. He'll channel that anger later into doing something about it. But for now, he works on allowing himself to settle again. "I guess we'll see when I can get ahold of her," he says, entirely unsure of how all that went down, but not speculating much.

"Doesn't mean that I won't worry about you a little when you're out there. Even if I know you can handle yourself, and that this is the life we lead -- danger's going to happen." He smiles a little crookedly then and says, "What? You didn't try to douse him in flea powder or something just to see what he'd do?" One brow quirks just a little, teasing. It's his way of coping, humor, trying to get back on an even keel.

Julio Richter has posed:
Julio recognizes the jokes as Bobby regaining his usual self-possession, and smiles to hear them. "There's not enough flea powder in the world. Maybe instead a laser pointer? Just lead him off into the ocean for a bath," he suggests with a snicker.

He reaches up to ruffle Bobby's hair fondly. "I understand why you worry about me, just so you know. It's ... bien, it's not something I'm used to. I know I get a little macho about it sometimes, but de verdad, it's sort of nice." He settles his lips into the crook of Bobby's neck again, and adds in an exaggerated, schoolyard-teasing voice, "It's because you liiiiiiiike me."

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby chuckles a little bit and says, "Now there's an idea." He grins a little as his hair is ruffled and turns his head to press another kiss against Julio's forehead. He laughs softly though and says, "I do liiiiiiiike you." He lets out a breath, then, and with it some of the tension that had built up inside him. Glancing down at his bowl of icecream, he stirs his spoon a little in it and it refreezes a bit. He takes a bite then, and finally eats some of it. "And I don't know.. I haven't noticed you be particularly macho about things around me.." He tries to think of a time he'd noticed.

Julio Richter has posed:
After Bobby kisses his forehead, Julio returns it with one more neck-kiss, then eases off him again and retrieves his own ice cream, taking a few bites and snuggling in next to him. "Bien, I don't like being taken care of, and I don't like letting other people take hits for me, even though I'm breakable and you're not. I can be all kinds of stubborn," he points out between mouthfuls.

Then, he sets his spoon down and huffs out a sigh. "I mean, I'm... I'm gay. I have told people that. I'm dating a man! I've"-- he pauses, and blushes again --"bien... you know what I've done. And I'm still over here trying to be 'manly.' Who do I think I'm fooling?"

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby shrugs his shoulders and says, "Everyone wants to fight their own battles. There's nothing wrong with that. And I'm sure not going to stop you. I'm just also not going to let you get killed if I can help it." He smiles a little bit crookedly and bumps Julio's shoulder with his own, "For purely selfish reasons that have nothing to do with your pride."

He takes another bite of his ice cream and both brows arch up a little. "You know, being gay and dating a man doesn't make you /not/ manly. Of course, it also depends on how you look at manhood, and whether you're talking about toxic masculinity, machismo, or you know, just being a good guy, a gentleman, and a man that others can be proud of." Bobby lets his shoulders rise and fall. "There are a lot of different ways of being a man. Some of them are a lot more inspiring than others." He smiles a little bit and takes another bite of his spoon. "If you're saying you're not putting on some show of machismo to compensate? Then that's not a bad thing."

Julio Richter has posed:
Julio snorts again, leaning into the shoulder bump. "I can forgive you for not letting me get killed. I will try to return the favor. I'm also being selfish. You're too cute to not keep around." He stops for a moment there, enjoying another few bites of ice cream as he considers the rest of what Bobby has to say.

When he does set his spoon back down and speak, he sounds a little bit skeptical. "I mean, I can't think of much that is less manly than boys kissing boys," he says, obviously of the opinion that this is an unshakable fact of the universe and not, perhaps, a learned attitude. "I mean, you can get away with it because you still chase girls, right? You're kind of the... best of both worlds, is how you say it. But me?"

He shrugs. "I mean, don't worry -- I'm OK with it. I'm already a mutant, and a killer, and illegal, and all that stuff that happened in the camp. I'm also... bien, I promised not to use bad words about it, but I'm gay. I don't want to chase girls. It's just one more thing, and it's not as bad as some of the others, anyway." He stops, looks down into his bowl, and frowns. "That also reminds me of... something else we should probably talk about."

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby smiles a little wryly and says, "I don't exactly chase anyone, if we're being honest. I flirt with everyone and then don't do anything about it about 90 percent of the time. But bi people get the hate from both sides. You're not straight enough to be straight. You're not gay enough to be gay. And you're just greedy, or indecisive, or..." He trails off and shrugs his shoulders. "People talk shit about everyone, bi, straight, gay, pansexual, asexual. They get it even worse. People totally invalidate them entirely. But sexuality and gender are two different things, and being a man has nothing to do with who you want to date, or sleep with. Which brings up the topic of the difference between romantic attraction and sexual attraction. People can even have different feelings about /that/ and we could seriously go down a rabbit hole if we wanted to explore all those topics."

"But you being gay is not bad. Period. Not "not as bad" not "less bad".. it's not bad. Being a mutant is not bad. Being illegal is unfortunate, but also not bad. Being a killer... well.." Bobby takes in a deep breath and lets it out slowly, "Sometimes people get forced into situations where bad shit happens. Being a killer's not a good thing, but it's also not black and white either. You're not a bad person, Julio. You're a person. And you're only twenty. We've got a while to work on the things about ourselves that maybe we screwed up and want to do better."

He sets the bowl down off to the side, finished with the icecream and wraps both arms around Julio's waist as he rests his chin on his shoulder. "And I hope I can help you see yourself in a better light in time."

Julio Richter has posed:
"I'm lucky I was in that 10 percent, then," Julio says with a smirk. "Tengo que decir, you're very bad at being greedy." His demeanor grows a more serious and thoughtful as he keeps listening, and honestly, it's not unlikely that Bobby decided to avoid that rabbit hole specifically because he saw that Julio was getting a little overwhelmed by the headiness of the conversation.

Still, he seems to be gamely engaging with it. "I didn't know people said things like that about bi people," he says, sounding sincere and, honestly, kind of offended. "You're not those things. I say you're too sexy for just men or women." So let it be written, so let it be done. "I don't know about the others, de verdad. And... I don't feel like I'm a girl for liking men, or anything. I'm still a man, it's just..." He winces, a bit swept up, and decides to eat the last of his dessert rather than finish the sentence.

The next topic is easier to follow, and he nods along. "I think I see what you mean. There are things I can get better at, and I've been trying, but I'm not 'getting better' from mutant or from gay or from how I got here. They are not bad choices that I can choose better tomorrow. They just are." He raises one hand to rub at his forehead, drapes the other arm around Bobby's shoulders, and says, "I'm trying, Bobby. To see myself that way, I mean. The way you do, and the way my friends do. It's just hard sometimes."

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby can definitely see Julio's eyes glazing over as he even begins to outline the vast rabbit warrens that lie beneath, and he doesn't delve further. Instead, he laughs a little bit when Julio says he's too sexy for just men or women. He shakes his head a little bit and says, "Or maybe I was just waiting for the right person to come along and actually call me on my flirting, and see where it went." He leans in against Julio. "I get that it's hard. I'm just... going to keep reminding you as long and as often as it takes." Then he pauses and asks, "So what was the other thing that you wanted to talk about?"
