Synopsis: Batgirl shows Glimmer around the Bird's Nest and talks about the young heroine's she wants some help training and providing alternative approaches to.
Cast of Characters: Barbara Gordon, Patty Verdon

Barbara Gordon has posed:
Batgirl invited Patty to see the Bird's base of operations. While they had safehouses (and armories) in New York and Metropolis for operations the homebase was in the Historic Clocktower in Gotham.

Shielded with shell corporations and a bunch of Dummy Tenants living on the levels not used for the Bird's Operation. It has enough obfuscation that even if the Birds looked into it they would probably end up thinking a lot of tenants lived on the floors the Bird's facilities themself weren't on. Which is mostly to shield Barbara.

The access tunnel leads from another building's back alley door to an elevator in a sublevel and then up to the Operations and Common level. Batgirl will let Patty in and lead her up.

"So this is the Clocktower... we have places in the other city too but this is probably the best equiped setup Oracle has established for us to operate out of. I'm sure you have questions since the last time the Birds were in touch with you?"

Patty Verdon has posed:
Patty looks suitably impressed. She has done her best to dress in a nondescript manner, but there is only so much you can dim your personal glow. Fortunately, the access tunnel makes such considerations unnecessary.

"Impressive. You know, when I started out, my kitchen was my headquarters? I could have used a setup like this- much nicer."

The elder woman takes off her hat and has an appreciative look-around, listening to Batgirl. "Of course, but I know getting an answer isn't easy, you see. Who funds what, and so on and so forth," she waves a hand to encompass the area, "I am curious to see what the day-to-day is here. Are the birds working on any big cases?"

Barbara Gordon has posed:
Batgirl chuckles "Well... thanks it is pretty impressive. When I got my start I made the costume myself by hand.. sewing machine. I made my own batarangs. Things got better when Batman decided to stop trying to get me to give it all up though. Still for some time it wasn't high tech or easy."

She looks around at the gesture. "Well yeah the funding isn't something many of the Birds know about at all. Oracle takes care of all that to keep everyone able to be heroes and not worry about the money. It isn't anything illegal or illicit though. Batman checked in on it." she considers that now and then shrugs and smiles. "No big cases right now... mostly everyone is doing their things in their cities or neighborhoods but are able to be called on to help each other if someone uncovers something dirty or else if htey need backup. It is a bit like the way the league is.. everyone scattered until they need to be together." she walks over towards the tactical table and brings a map of Gotham to life on it's surface. "We do have a lot of new members though who are in their teens and pretty green."

Patty Verdon has posed:
"And by that I imagine you mean figuratively green? Not that there's anything wrong with being literally green, just ask She-Hulk." She surveys the map. She taps one fingernail on a specific location and says "Best egg sandwiches you'll ever have in your life, you /must/ try them. Now, about these young ones... the ones who I imagine would welcome training- tell me a little about them. What you can tell, of course."

Then she smiles, "Made your own costume. I remember when I made my first one. I tried making a leotard- you know, because of the showgirl angle? That's when I found out working on spandex is a super power all of on its own. That's why I went with pantsuits," she confides, grinning.

Barbara Gordon has posed:
"I do mean figuratively. I also mean relatively. I've been training several of the girls but I think we could use more experienced people around here to help them learn. I don't want them just learning from me you know."

She looks over at the map where Patty is pointing and laughs lightly. "I know that place... I haven't ever had the egg sandwich but now I definitely need to try it." an easy smile.

"Spoiler, Sparrow, and Orphan are their codenames. They are all very differing degrees of experience. Orphan is the most dangerous in a fight followed by Sparrow and then Spoiler. Sparrow has more general useful hero experience followed by Sparrow then Spoiler." she considers.

"Honestly Spoiler needs the most diverse set of training."

The costume bit "Well it would be easier to do it in a pantsuit. I thankfully went right to full on batgirl suit.. no skirt .. pants.. the cape that was complicated." she indicates her shoulders. "This one has a quick release system in it so it can't be used against me. Hard lesson learned."

Patty Verdon has posed:
"Oh yes!" Patty agrees, "Capes should /always/ have a safety-release mechanism. Like cat collars. Unless you're Superman- that man's neck is wider than my /thigh/!" she says emphatically, "I can't imagine much hurts him. He an have the cape," she says magnanimously.

While still surveying the map of Gotham, she says "Tell me about Spoiler first, then. How did she come into the fold?" it was funny, she knew New Yor like the back of her hand, but Gotham always seemed like a labyrinth to her, no matter how often she had passed through there. It was like the city actively sought to make itself unknown to all, its secrets guarding themselves.

Barbara Gordon has posed:
Batgirl leans over and taps the table near the place with the best egg salad, and a ton of video feeds from... jesus it looks like every CCTV and ATM on the block pop up suddenly on the table around the point of interest selected.

"Spoiler. Well I won't give details that would jepordize her secrets but I can skim the surface. She is a really good kid. She is a naturally gifted athlete. She has all the natural skills that one would need to make a great crime fighter honestly once she learns how to apply all of them."

A thoughtful look. "She found out that her dad is a supervillain and set out to Spoil all of her dad's crimes and plans. She wants to make up for his lifetime of bad by helping people. Not just the ones he hurt or wronged but ..everyone."

Patty Verdon has posed:
Patty raises both eyebrows, her voice reaches those gravelly low notes that made her a meme on the internet a few years ago, "Oh bless her heart, poor dear." She nods appreciatively at the video feeds, impressed by the resources Oracle has furnished the Birds with, "So young and already dealing with something like that. So she's taken the mantle on and had no training... until you found her, I imagine?" she looks to Batgirl for confirmation, "Her father sounds like he needs some good Spoiling done to him. He has some nerve, breaking his daughter's heart like that." she says disapprovingly.

Barbara Gordon has posed:
Batgirl handwobbles "Batman found her and gave her some assistance and training. He wasn't sure she was ready or committed though and cut her loose. It didn't stop her and after she bulldogged it for a while I stepped in and became her mentor."

She smiles at the play on Spoiler's callsign. "It was pretty clever calling herself Spoiler, especially considering her father's name. I'll let her get into that though if she chooses to share who it is. It would risk her identity though so bit close to the chest right now."

Patty Verdon has posed:
"Of course. Just because I don't have a secret identity, it doesn't mean everybody can do that." She looks at the young woman in the bat-cowl and gives her a smile, "Mind you, if I had known it would have let to Madam Mayhem knocking on my kitchen door, I might've gone for one of those cowls. You know, it was the strangest thing, it started off as a fight and we ended up having a cheesecake in the living room? I had to rebuild my kitchen, though. But I did put in those oriel windows I wanted the first time around."

She crosses her ams and tilts her head, silver hair pushes back from her face by her hand. "And Sparrow and Orphan?"

Barbara Gordon has posed:
"We all appreciate the discretion and understanding there. Also yeah the cowls and being a bit dodgy with your identity has it's perks.. .but also downsides." she grins though thinking about that.

"I.. well okay I can't comment on a nemesis named Madam Mayhem.. we have the Joker and the Penguin in Gotham after all..." she just shakes her head. "Though we really can't have them showing up at our houses." that part has a dark serious tone to it. Definitely not the cheesecake types.

"Sparrow was trained ..extensively by Batman" and yet she isn't the one rated the highest. "Has a confidence problem but is the most rounded.. easily can take care of herself and others. Very solid on tactics and crime fighting.. ready to go to to toe when bigger league if she has to even though she has no powers."

"As for Orphan... her mother is the most dangerous Assassin on the planet.... her father the same really. Her mother though scares the hell out of me. Not a villain in the traditional sense.. hell sometimes she does a lot of very good things.... a complicated individual who had her daughter trained from birth to replace her. Orphan's only peers when it comes to hand to hand fighting are only really her mother.. father.. and Batman. She needs help understanding being a young woman and balancing out that lethality with other things heroes need."

Patty Verdon has posed:
"So Sparrow is the most well-balanced. Orphan is a hero who needs to learn how to be a young woman, and Spoiler is a young woman who needs to learn how to be a hero." Patty nods, appreciating the balance of the situation. She claps her hands together, "Now, I would love to meet these talented young ladies and get to know them. I usually break the ice with some theater exercises but I imagine that's not very well-regarded in these circles," she grins impishly, "But nevertheless, it's the duty of every experienced person to provide aid and guidance to the newer generation."

"How are they working as a team? Have they had much opportunity?"

Barbara Gordon has posed:
"These three are all Gotham based.. so yes they have some experience fighting crime together. To various degrees. Sparrow has some of her own issues and reasons she fights crime.. yes she is the most balanced between the two but she is.. not entirely balanced in her life for her reasons." she considers but doesn't say more.

Then again who is balanced who dons costumes and fights crime. Glass houses Ms. Gordon.

"We can and definitely should arrange you to meet each of them, either seperately or together. I'll let them know I've asked you to work with them and the other Birds."

Patty Verdon has posed:
"That sounds absolutely splendid, dear. You know, I had thought that at this time of my life, I would have left all of this behind. But you can't really, now, can you? It's something in the blood. Like Tallulah Bankhead once said to me when I was a chorus girl in 'Double Time', 'It's not in the taste for...'" she pauses, "Actually I just realized I can't tell you that story, not until you're older. In any case..."

She looks around one last time, and says "Now why don't you show me some more of the gizmos you employ around here, and fill me in on how this 'Oracle' roped you in. Startled me a little, I thought I had inadvertedly downloaded one of those viruses my co-worker's son says I should be careful about..."

Barbara Gordon has posed:
Batgirl cants her head "You know Batgirl is just my callsign not any reflection of my actual age. That said thank you because I am taking this as a compliment." there is a crooked grin there.

"Sure I can show you more of the gizmos. Thankfully no you didn't get scammed or malwared. Oracle just operates with a lot of smoke and mirrors to keep their identity and those they care about safe. Provding tech support to a lot of heroes has a lot of risks I suppose..."

Irony.

Still Babs will walk back to the elevator "Lets show you the Gym then the Garage."
