Cast of Characters: Jason Todd, Valeria Richards

Jason Todd has posed:
It had been a sleepless night for Jason and not just for the usual reasons, his little adventure with Val in the Suicide Slums had turned out a little more adventurous than either of them planned. They made it out largely intact, save for a bit of shrapnel in the back of Jay's right shoulder, but it had been too close for comfort and besides, bombs blowing up buildings brought back bad memories.

So Jason had tossed and turned, and even at one point woken up, quietly packed his things, but didn't go, returning to bed until the morning, where he rises again, this time to slip out into the rest of the suite and call room service for breakfast, guessing broadly it wouldn't be long before Val rose too.

Valeria Richards has posed:
Val had slept, but her sleep hadn't been particularly restful. She had felt Jason leave the bed in the middle of the night and the sound of him packing his bags. She hadn't said anything. She had almost expected him to slip out quietly, and could she really say anything if he had? This wasn't a thing, after all, and neither of them owed the other anything.

But she was relieved when he stayed, came back to bed beside her. She was careful not to move or give any hints she had been awake, but who knows how well that had worked? She had fallen back to sleep though, and stirs when she hears him in the other room placing a breakfast order. She slips out of the bed and pads her way into the living room area, stretching and yawning. When he gets off the phone, she comes up behind him and slips her arms around his waist, leaning against his back. "Morning."

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason had heard her rise even as he gave orders for their breakfast. The same things they'd had yesterday, Why mess with a good thing and you can't go wrong with bacon. Even so when she comes up behind him and hugs him he tenses without thinking about it before he makes himself relax. "Morning," he says after a second. "Figured you'd be up soon, wanted to get us breakfast for our long trips home," he says, though that long trip is only going to be a matter of minutes for the both of them thanks to the hyperloop. Though it felt like a normal thing to say that wasn't about the night before or the bag still sitting packed on the couch.

Valeria Richards has posed:
"Yeah. Long trip." There's a little bit of sarcasm in that, but it's only the faintest amount. Val doesn't move from where she's hugging him for a little bit. It probably feels longer than it is before she lets go, one hand lightly brushing over the top of his shoulder wound. She doesn't ask if it hurts, because she's not an idiot. Of course it does.

She turns around and heads back towards the bedroom with the intent to quickly pack her own bag, but she stops in the doorway and kind of just stares into the room for a bit, her mind turning over a lot of things, some of which she's not sure it should be, and others she wishes it wasn't. It's not fair for Mom to be right so often. And about so many things.

Jason Todd has posed:
There was a bit of a smile for the sarcasm, and his hand slips down to rest on Val's arm as she hugs him from behind. Happy for the little bit of Val snark to give him a shot of normalcy this morning.

When Val detaches and heads for the bedroom, Jason glances behind him watching for a moment before turning back around, giving her a little space with those thoughts, ducking into the bathroom for a moment to give her the chance to quietly slip out if that's where those thoughts take her. After all she'd given him his chance and he couldn't blame her. At this point he just wanted to get home and figure all of this out later. Though too he had stayed. He looks at himself in the mirror, "Idiot," he tells himself.

Valeria Richards has posed:
Valeria moves into the room and starts tossing her clothes and other things into her small Fantastic Four branded drawstring backpack. She catches a glimpse of herself in the mirror, and much like Jason one room over, berates herself quietly. "Idiot."

She finishes stuffing the last bit of things into her bag. There's a knock at the door, and with Jason in the bathroom she slings her backpack over one shoulder and then goes to answer it. She quietly lets the room service guy in to drop the tray on the coffee table and gives him a half-sincere smile as he leaves.

She pulls the door almost shut, glancing back at the breakfast and then peers down the hallway. Then she lets the door shut and goes to flop back on the couch.

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason half expected to be eating breakfast alone, but when he hears Valeria sink onto the couch he glances out at her, with the bare hint of a smile. Though before he heads back into the living room he takes a breath. He grabs one of the arm chairs opposite the couch ignoring the room service cart for now.

The word is slow in coming, from brain to mouth it takes a circticious route of reconsideration and re-reconsideration until at last he spits it out. "Sorry," he says. "For last night. It wasn't the best idea."

Valeria Richards has posed:
Val looks up from where she is half slumped, half flopped on the couch. Her expression is flat... like it usually is when she's working through a lot of thoughts. "No," she says finally. "It wasn't. But I asked for it, didn't I?" she pushes herself up to her feet, moving closer to him but not reaching out to touch him yet. "You could have left last night," she says suddenly. Then after a moment, she adds, "you almost did."

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason considers that for a second, "You did, but I should have known better than getting mixed up with those guys, there's always some scumbag wanting to blow up all the other ones, should have seen that coming and just whistled for Superman or something." He makes a face. "Not my town."

"Looks like you had the same thoughts," he says nodding to Val's own packed bag, deflecting.

Valeria Richards has posed:
"Mm." Val glances to her bag, and then to his. "Maybe." She's not incapable of deflecting, either. She tilts her head as if calculating things. "I think you didn't want me to leave any more than I wanted you to." She gives him a measuring look. "Breakfast is here," she points out, even though it's obvious. But she doesn't move to sit back down, or look away from him, almost challenging him to deny what she said.

Jason Todd has posed:
"Heh," Jason says as Val deflects just as easily as he did. "Yeah. breakfast," he says standing up to go collect his plate. He gathers it and his cutlery. "And you didn't want me to leave?" he asks, lobbing the ball back into her court.

Valeria Richards has posed:
"Artfully dodging things, how Bat-like," Valeria replies with a hint of amusement on her lips. She shrugs. "You could have left. I wouldn't have stopped you." It's not the same as whether she wanted him to go or not, though. She tilts her head, still calculating. "But you didn't. And you didn't want to, not really." She seems to be ignoring breakfast for the moment. Her eyes narrow a bit. "I think you still don't want to, but you want yourself to want to, and you're not happy about it any more than I am in the same predicament." She folds her arms across her chest.

Jason Todd has posed:
Val's replies draws its own amusement from Jason which only increases as she breaks things down so accurately. "God you're worse than Bruce," he says, with a shake of his head and a wry smile. Though after a moment he turns to his food, prodding his scrambled eggs with his fork. "Yeah, that's about right, I didn't want to be that big of an asshole to you, what with almost getting us killed," he says, still poking his food before he looks up almost defiantly. "And I didn't want things to change."

Valeria Richards has posed:
The defiance actually... well Valeria's eyes darken a bit, a faint flush coming to her cheeks. Apparently? That look on Jason's face is exciting to her, like catnip to a cat. She actually moves over to him then, taking the plate from his hands and placing it on the coffee table before lightly pushing him back onto the couch to sit.

Then she settles herself in his lap.

"I wouldn't consider you a fan of stagnation and entropy," Val notes idly, her arms slipping around his neck.

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason blinks as Val comes to him, takes away his plate, moves him to the couch to settle in his lap. Not the reaction he was expecting but he'll go with it. He wraps his arms around her and answers. "I don't know if three dates and our first night together really qualifies us for stagnation," he says with mirth in those pale blue eyes of his. "I just hate to see a good thing go to waste," he says, before he leans up to kiss her soundly on the lips.

Valeria Richards has posed:
Val kisses him back, then gives him a bit of a wicked grin. "Nor do I." She glances back towards the door. "But that's admitting this is a good thing." She leans her forehead against his. "And to be clear, I think it is. But I didn't think it would be." She sighs softly, closing her eyes. "I wasn't saying we were stagnating... quite the opposite. I think there will be change, one way or another." Even with her eyes closed, her lips purse slightly in thought. "But I'm not sure exactly how." She sighs softly. "I... think I might have preferences on that, and I think that scares me as much as what happened yesterday." She does admit she was frightened then, it seems. "I could grab my bag and walk out and head home. It might be smarter."

She smiles a bit, her eyes opening back, still somewhat darkened. "Or you can carry me back into the bedroom there and we can take advantage of late checkout. I'm not angry with you about yesterday. I don't blame you for it. I knew what I wanted. And I still do."

Jason Todd has posed:
Jason nods making no argument, this was a good thing, even if the idea of it changing one way or the other scares him as much as it seems to scare Val. His eyes drift towards the door for a moment himself, but he looks back to Val.

Really was it even a choice? Let her walk or carry her off to the bedroom? Though before he says one way or the other, he says, "Thanks," he says even if his voice made it clear he still blamed himself, his inner Bruce calling him reckless and sloppy and all those familiar terms from his time as Robin. He'd deal with that later though, for now he rises, ignoring the pain in his shoulder as he lifts Valeria into his arms.

"Late check out time it is," he grins at her before carrying her off to the bedroom.
