Cast of Characters: Roberto da Costa, Scott Summers

Roberto da Costa has posed:
Roberto was back. No longer a student, Roberto had been scarce over the summer some of his former fellow students saying the Brazilian was gone for good, but with September just beginning, the prodigal mutant returns, dressed in usual Roberto style with a Fluminense FC jersey, burgundy board shorts and a pair of green and white Jordans and a pair of shades over his eyes.

Wandering the halls he stops and says hello here and there, always with the question, 'Hey, have you seen Scott?' Most of the time he gets shrugs or shakes of the head until one of the freshmen on the way to Hank's science class says, "I think he's in the staff lounge," before hurrying off to class.

Nodding Roberto replies, "Thanks, whatever your name is..." before heading in the direction of the Lounge. Once he arrives, he pauses a moment, pocketing his shades and smoothing the front of his jersey before he straightens up and knocks on the door.

Scott Summers has posed:
Scott is indeed in the staff lounge. Classes are restarting and of course he assigns homework from day one. The jerk. The next course is going to be interesting given the sorry state of Mutant Town and the expected few thousand ex-Genoshan returning the US and settling there. For now, they actually have less students than last year. First time it happens.

There are also about eight to ten million less mutants in the world.

When Roberto knocks at the door, he raises his eyes from the laptop, "come in, ah... good afternoon, Mr. DaCosta. I had heard you were visiting. What could I do for you?"

Roberto da Costa has posed:
Glancing behind him into the hallway before he lets the door shut behind him, Roberto says, "Hey, yeah, was really hoping we could talk," he says to Scott coming into the room and hovering near where Scott's working on his laptop. "I took the summer to think about things and I wanted to see if I could get on the team," he says, there was only one team he could be talking about of course: the X-Men. "I know I wasn't exactly Mr. Responsible while I was a student, but, I dunno, that whole Sinister thing, and everything else," meaning Genosha, Mutant Town and the rest. "It sort of opened my eyes."

Scott Summers has posed:
"Please, sit down," offer Scott. "And no, I think you did well as a student," beat, "maybe not the first year. But the last couple of them, even with your injury and then Sinister..." that very makes his usually serious expression shift into positively sour. "In any case, I believed your plans were to join your father in leading your family business. Are you sure? In the X-Men you need to commit a large amount of time to the team. Even obtaining a college title is difficult. And I expect next year to be quite busy."

Roberto da Costa has posed:
Roberto takes the offered seat, turning it around so he can straddle it and cross his arms on the back. "Yeah, I did alright," Roberto admits of his last few years at the school, grinding hard to try and graduate along with Sam and the others despite his injury.

Sighing Roberto says, "Yeah, that's the plan, just as it's always been," he says of running da Costa international with a distinct lack of enthusiasm. "But even if my dad dropped dead today, I wouldn't be able to take control until I was twenty-one, so, worst case scenario I'd have two years I can devote to the team." Though that was conveniently forgetting college and having a girlfriend in Gotham.

"And I get it's going to be busy, but I trained all those years to do this, and I don't it all to be for nothing."

Scott Summers has posed:
"Your training would have served you well in any case," offers Scott. "As a powerful mutant, you need absolute control of your abilities. Now, the combat training, you did well the last few months. You would qualify for the main team as a trainee."

There is but, of course. As Roberto hated taking orders. And acts without thinking. Still, one or the other is almost half the X-men when they join. He hrms, "if you feel ready, Sunspot, I am going to trust you. Are you ready?"

Roberto da Costa has posed:
Roberto nods, "True," he says of his training. "But that's a little like having a Ferrari and never taking it out of first," he says of living a normal life with full control of his abilities. He nods a slight frown crossing his face at the word 'trainee', but that frown quickly vanishes as Roberto looks Scott right in the ruby quartz shades and says, "I'm ready," while hoping like hell he was right.

Scott Summers has posed:
Well, Scott knows Roberto has rarely doubted his own capabilities. But self-confidence is a good trait to have when getting combat situations. And if he feels ready after the last year of hellish events, then it seems his confidence is still going strong.

"Good, then I will see you tomorrow at five, for the stealth and infiltration Danger Room exercises," which are not going to be Roberto's specialty, but Scott will want him take at least ten sessions of them to get the basics. "Welcome to the X-Men," he offers Roberto his hand to shake. "And don't worry, you will be a trainee just for a year."

Roberto da Costa has posed:
In this case there may be a little doubt but Berto hides it well. He'd fake until he made it, or at least that's the plan. Though with the hurdle of joining the team cleared Roberto relaxes, "Thanks, Mr. Su-" he frowns a moment. "What do I call you now?" he asks. "And dinner time training sounds perfectly reasonable," he says. "Even if you're asking the glowing guy to be stealthy." Yeah, Roberto, it's the /other/ five o'clock.

Scott Summers has posed:
"Ah, no. The X-Men training is at five a.m." replies Scott, with a humorless smile. "Before most students wake up. Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Truth is you could skip most stealth/infil session after you get the basics, we'll see how it goes."

As for the rest, "you can call me Scott or Mr. Summers if I am out of uniform. You will call me Cyclops or 'sir' when we are in uniform. In general we are quite strict about using codenames even in training, as to avoid mistakes later, when on the field. Exceptions are... well, you will see."

Roberto da Costa has posed:
Roberto blinks. "They're making a five /am/ these days? Who knew?" he says rallying quickly and turning his surprise into a joke. "I'll be there, and be glad I still have my room in the mansion."

As for the names thing, Roberto nods, "Scott it is," he says for right now. He knows enough to keep to codenames on mission. "Fair enough," he says about the exceptions. "I'll watch what everyone but Remy and Logan do and I'm sure I'll be fine," he says lightly, before smiling.

"Anyhow, I'll get out of your hair, but seriously Scott, thanks, I'll work my ass off, you won't regret this," he says.

Scott Summers has posed:
"I know I won't," replies Scott, here being optimistic. But the other mutants in Roberto's old group are doing pretty well, so he suspects the young man will indeed work his ass off to be at least as good. "Sam is going to be quite happy to have you around, I might owe him five bucks, too."

Roberto da Costa has posed:
Roberto grins, "Betting against me boss?" he asks Scott, "And here I thought you were smart," he teases lightly as he stands and smoothes his jersey. "Anyhow, thanks again, I should go give Sam the good news and get my stuff set up in my room again." He starts for the door but before he goes, he look back over his shoulder, "See you at five am," he says with a bit of a headshake, and off he goes.
