Working in the Labs One Night
Date of Scene: 15 September 2020
Location: Level 1 - Labs - The Roost
Synopsis: Roy pops in to check out the labs.
Cast of Characters: Tim Drake, Roy Harper

Tim Drake has posed:
Music pours out of the labs on the first floor, despite the closed door. Tim's singing along with I've Got The World on a String, as he has a hardlight screen floating over one of the lab tables, a pair of collapsible staves stretched out and in the process of being tinkered with, the ends of each cracked open, components spread out on the table making it clear they are not just sticks to thwack goons with. He's not in costume, rather in jeans and a plain charcoal t-shirt, though he does have his domino mask on, using it for the infrared scanners.

The lab doors aren't locked but, generally, he's the only one who uses them. Most of the rest of the team aren't really the science types.

Roy Harper has posed:
Roy comes wandering down to the lab, idly exploring since he'd dropped a few things off in his room upstairs -- mostly weapons. There's very little of the personal in Roy's room but there's definitely a weapon's case and a number of tools of the trade. He's dressed in a faded pair of jeans, some dark red chucks and a red t-shirt of the same brick color. He pauses at the doors and grins a little at the singing coming from inside before pushing them open and wandering in.

He takes a moment to take in the tableau before saying anything since he doesn't really want to startle someone wielding tools, weapons, lasers that could cut him in half -- that sort of thing. He lifts a hand and waves, waiting to see if that catches Tim's attention.

Tim Drake has posed:
The sound of the door opening gets Tim's attention, though he doesn't look up quite yet from where he's soldering a bit of circuit components into one end of the grey staff on the table in front of him. "A minute, Con," he says, obviously assuming Roy is his half-Kryptonian best friend, and usually one of the only folks who'll poke his head in this time of evening. "I've got the world on a string, I'm sitting on the rainbow... I've got that string around my finger," he continues singing to himself, the slight 'zzt' of the soldering gun a counterpoint. After a few moments and the component is how he wants it, he looks up.

Ah, that's... not Conner. "Oh. Uh, hey, Arsenal. What brings you to the labs?" His face is flushed with embarrassment, and he too-casually hits the 'stop' button on the music player on the screen.

Roy Harper has posed:
"Hey, don't stop on my account," Roy says with a grin as he wanders in closer now that Tim's noticed that he's there. "Believe me, I've heard far worse singing," he says, then pauses, and adds, "Which was probably /me/ singing, come to think of it." He leans up against the bench nearby, arms folded as he takes in the tools, the project that Tim is working on, the rest of the lab, and finally Tim all in turn. "Figured I'd check out what you've got for fabrication and tools. I like to make a lot of my own stuff."

He looks over at the components that Tim is busy soldering into the staff, leaning over just a little bit to study it and how it's all coming together. "What're you working on?" he asks, "If you don't mind me being nosy, that is." He flashes a grin.

Tim Drake has posed:
Tim grins a bit. Tinkering with weapons is somewhat of a hobby of his. "Oh, uh... improving this EMP-burst staff, actually. Used it on some drones Doctor Doom sent into Gotham a couple weeks ago, but I had a thought on how to make it more effective." He shrugs. "Still an extremely limited range, of course, but before, I really only had one go at it-- once used, it's expended until I could repair the burst array. I think this new upgrade might get me two shots instead of just the one." He gestures at the second, opened staff, that one a navy blue. The colors help him see at a glance what they are. "That one bursts into flames on the ends, but the last time I used one-- not this one, but the prototype-- it slagged entirely. Not super great in the long run, so I'm working on a better option for the flames.

Roy Harper has posed:
"Nice," Roy says as he looks them over and then says, "I've got some mini-EMP arrows that'll blow on impact for taking out something real small and localized like a security panel or something like that, but it's a one and done sorta thing. Most of my arrows are, just because it's not often I can go run around picking them back up after I shoot them. That's sort of the point of not being up close and personal." He grins. "But something like this, this'd be cool if it could give you multiple charges. I should fiddle around with the escrima. Not my best weapon, but Arrow likes to thump me with them enough I'm going to learn them eventually," he smirks. "If purely by osmosis due to percussive instruction."

Tim Drake has posed:
"Can't always guarantee you won't be in the thick of things," Tim agrees. "So having the skills for escrima or other close-in combat is always a good thing. If you want, I'll spar with you, or really anyone here will. I prefer thrown weapons to the bow, myself, but..." he shrugs. "I can use one if I need. And firearms." He frowns. "Not that I generally advertise that latter, but its harder to defend against a weapon you're not familiar with. I let the others think I can't use them, though. Easier that way."

He does look interested in the specialized arrows, however. "What sorts of arrows do you usually load out?" he asks curiously. "I generally don't use specialized staves often, but lately... things have been a bit more //interesting// in Gotham. So while I might not be comfortable using them on people..." he shrugs.

Roy Harper has posed:
"Oh, I know how to use a lot of different weapons, just seems the escrima would be a better shape to equip something on the end of," Roy says as he studies the stave on the bench in front of him. "Most of my other weapons are bladed, though I can think of a couple I could modify..." he sort of trails off as he begins thinking about his quite literal arsenal of weapons and which ones he could modify in what ways.

Then he seems to come back out of that thought to say, "I can use a gun but.. I don't. I know which end to point, how to check a safety, how to load it, but honestly that's about it. All my training has been with melee weapons and that came way after I learned the bow. Bow and knife were my first weapons as a kid and that's usually what I go back to."

"Oh, uh.. depends on where I'm going and what we're looking at. Tranqs, small EMP, trackers, smokers, flash bangs.. I mean, there's a lot but it's all situational and I can only carry so many at once, so I tend to take a mix of standard and then whatever I think might be most useful for the mission."

Tim Drake has posed:
Tim grins at that. "Cool. I'd love to get a look at some of them sometime," he says, his interest genuine. "And I know the feeling. I've got most of the staves I carry to... hold on..." he clips the empty ends of the blue staff down, picks it up, and then snaps his wrist, the staff collapsing into just slightly larger than a roll of quarters, "collapse down a fair bit. But even still, I've only got room to carry a couple, maybe three, and still have everything else I need in my utility belt any given night." He sighs, shaking his head. "Can't carry everything, right?"

Roy Harper has posed:
"Sure," Roy says, "I actually brought a bunch with me tonight, put'm up in my room with another one of my bows. Figured I'd keep a spare here and some of the stuff I've made up. I figure if people want some, I can always make some extras." He grins as he watches the stave collapse and nods. "Even my bow can collapse down pretty small but even so, hauling around a bow and a bunch of arrows is a lot if you want to be able to stay agile. So you pick and choose. I keep the standards and tranqs all the time, usually a couple of tracking and smokers.. then the rest just depends. But I'll bring some down here next time."

Tim Drake has posed:
"Well, if you're looking for fabrication stuff..." Tim shows Roy the TouchPad under the edge of the table that calls up the floating screen above the lab table. "I usually work on prototypes here, and once I'm happy with them I can send them down to fabrication to make more as needed. The printers down there are state of the art." He shrugs. "Can't do everything but its great to have them do most of the lifting, right? The computers here link up to the fabrication printers, so you can just send down a build without needing to go anywhere." He's proud of the set up, obviously. "

Roy Harper has posed:
"Huh," Roy says as he watches Tim pull up the screen and then explain the setup, "That's pretty slick. Nice, man. I am definitely going to have to check that out. You don't mind me working on stuff in here, do you? I mean.. I don't want to just kind of show up and invade your space and all, but if you wouldn't mind, I'd definitely be down for doing some work down here and tossing ideas back and forth." He checks the buzzing of his phone and glances down at it. "Oh hey.. I gotta take this but.. yeah.. if that's cool with you? I'll bring some stuff down."
