Cast of Characters: Emma Frost, Alexis Carr

Emma Frost has posed:
Things have been rather busy at the Hellfire Club lately. Meetings, the clubs have been full and exciting, and Emma has been splitting her time between board business and the business of her company.

But tonight is an off night, which is why she's invited her assistant to join her in Lily Ann's for some not-work chat, drinks, and good music. The singer for the night has already begun her set, and Emma has a table between the bar and the stage, already halfway finished with her first appletini. She's still in business attire, though she looks significantly more relaxed. "How have you been, outside of the work I've been piling on you here?" she asks Allegra with some amusement. "It hasn't been too much has it?"

Alexis Carr has posed:
Meetings with 'the boss' are always haphazard when alcohol may be involved. Allegra has something in front of her that is pink and grapefruit-y, and most assuredly non alcoholic as she sits down with a smile to Emma, closing olver a folio.

"Miss Frost, it's hardly a triffle, after all I have to do some work in order to keep up my paycheque." Allegra replies, with her fabulously crisp accent, though she looks out over the bar.

"It's actually been somewhat relaxing to have... you know, normal things to do. Rather than dealing with..." she trails off a moment, her face softening a bit, but she smiles, and turns back to Emma. "And it appears that Mr. Wilson Fisk has taken something of a shine to me. He keeps asking me to join him at tables."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma chuckles. "Well, he's a board member," she says. "So it may be that, since I've let the rest of them know how fabulous you are at your job," she takes a sip and swirls the bright green drink about. "But if you get the impression it's anything purient and you don't feel he'll back down, let me know and I'll handle him."

Alexis Carr has posed:
Allegra gives a little smile, her voice dropping quiet. "I don't think it's anything so drastic as that. He likes making conversation and speaks of his pet projects in Hell's Kitchen, mostly. Drinks scotch and compliments my piano playing." the dark-haired woman states as she looks to Emma again. "If he pursues such actions, I'm certain I can handle disappointing him entirely on my own. After all... he's not Sam."

Emma Frost has posed:
"That hardly matters around here," Emma replies with a wry look, "but the offer is there if you need it. How are things going with...." Emma manages to not wrinkle her nose, "Sam?"

Alexis Carr has posed:
"Ugh. I know. I've been propositioned by enough husbands and a few wives to know that not /that/ much caring is put into it -- but /I/ care." Allegra replies with an equally dry tone to Emma's wry look.

"Sam is..." she trails off, and then she rests her fingertips on the rim of her glass. She frowns a moment. "He's fine. Things are fine between us. And your beau?" she questions back, dark eyes looking to Emma's blue.

Emma Frost has posed:
"Busy. Mr. Shaw's company has kept him quite busy, and occasionally out of state looking at potential new sites. I honestly am not entirely sure what he does, other than it has to do with dirt and rocks and what's underneath them," Emma confides, "but he's apparently very good at it. So there is that." She drains her glass, gesturing for another. "But then again, with the recent companies we've been working to acquire at Frost, I haven't been around terribly much either. I'm hoping that will change soon."

Alexis Carr has posed:
"It would be nice to have you around more often. You are the closest thing I have to a friend." Allegra states. It's hard to mistake the morose notes in her voice as she takes a breath and looks out over the bar.

"Sam seems intent on working to become a police officer. I've tried to talk him out of it, and he tries to talk me into moving upstate to the school. I don't feel that's for the wisest... there were a few who recognized me at once. I don't think a false name will mollify their suspicions."

Emma Frost has posed:
"Xavier's isn't the worst place," Emma replies in an undertone. Her voice returns to 'normal' after that. "A secretive bunch, but then again, they are what they are." She is, too, not that she's ever saying it out loud in the open like this. "I personally would rather be here, but that's more because I think that sort of chaos would drive me insane."

Alexis Carr has posed:
"Mmn. The lack of discipline in some of those children. My grandmother would have expelled some of them for merely the language, let alone their attitudes." she gives a soft 'hm', and she gives a wry smile to Emma.

"Knowing who I am... would /you/ have given me the same opportunities had I been more... normal?" she questions, bringing that pink monstrosity of a drink to her lips.

Emma Frost has posed:
"The aptitude and attitude being the same? Possibly. We'll never know for sure." Emma is straightforward on that. "Have you had a chance to walk the Purgatory Club in off hours yet? It's a lot better when not filled with teenagers."

Alexis Carr has posed:
Allegra is satisfied with that. She gives a little grin, and she looks back over to Emma.

"What, you mean teenagers, like me?" she replies, sounding scandalized. "Admittedly the club scene is not... where my musical tastes lay, most of the time." Allegra replies, "And honestly, the idea of some random teenage lad deciding he was going to try and get handsy with me because of bravery boosted by illicit items makes me less inclined to want to try." she frowns, and looks to Emma a moment. <<I have concerns that the crowds and noise will result in a little less Purgatory and a little more Hellfire.>> she attempts to 'think' out loud as she sips her drink.

Emma Frost has posed:
<<Well, I know our security staff has been fairly adept at removing... problems...>> Emma replies evenly. Her replacement drink arrives. "Teenagers of far lesser quality than you," she points out aloud with a smirk.

Alexis Carr has posed:
"Emma, dear, I threw myself out of a window. What sort of teenager does that for a boy she hardly knows? Thirteen-year-olds in Venice who have four-day affairs that result in eight deaths?" she gives a smile to the waiter, and then turns back to Emma.

<<As per usual, security staff are extremely effective.>>

"Mm. The singer's going a bit sharp on some of the high notes."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma makes a noise of disapproval. "I know. She's new." <<Quite. Have you had a chance to meet our new head of security, Mr. Wilson? He was a security consultant for many years before joining the board.>> "It's a pity, but perhaps she'll improve."

Alexis Carr has posed:
"The set isn't suited for her voice. She needs something in a lower range; it'd be more comfortable for her and for us." Allegra comments, critiquing with her experience at hand. <<I've not had the pleasure. Should I make acquaintence with Mr. Wilson?>> she inquires, sipping her frilly drink as she watches the lady on the stage, her lips pursing in consideration. "Something from Elsie Carlisle's catalogue, perhaps?"

Emma Frost has posed:
"Mm. I'll speak with the manager of the bar, and see what she thinks." Emma seems to agree, however, though the club does often allow their individual bar managers more leeway. "Since you've met Mr. Fisk, I do think you might want to make the acquaintance of our newer board members, like Mr. Wilson, Ms. Natchios, Ms. al Ghul, and Mr. Lensherr."

Alexis Carr has posed:
The poor singer doesn't get the advantage of hearing the critique, so Allegra would think, but she turns back to Emma, drinking the last of that floofy pink grapefruit drink -- and at the last name she pauses a moment. She purses her lips a moment, her fingers folding as she releases the glass -- it's steaming. The ice inside was vaporized, the glass looks like it might have barely survived.

"I'll have to make time; I should acquaint myself with the rest of the board, should I be needed to file something for you on their behalf."

Emma Frost has posed:
"They are all very interesting and singularly gifted people, Allegra." Emma smiles a bit. "Which is, of course, one of the best things about the club: getting to meet and network with folks who can provide any number of key opportunities for you later."

Alexis Carr has posed:
"Or they try to take advantage of perceived naievette and attempt to exact control." Allegra replies. There is a dark note with that, and her mind turns to her father. Not unusual, there's a lot going on there.

<<... do they know, Emma? About what I'm hiding?>> she turns her attention, distractedly, back to the singer at hand. Her left hand is shaking. Her knuckles white.

Emma Frost has posed:
<<Your mutation?>> Emma frowns. <<No, though if you move up... like one day I hope for you to do... they will. Like they know of mine. No one there will remotely flinch.>> She pauses in her thoughts. <<Without too much more explanation, Allegra, you would certainly not be alone. In //any// of it. You share a number of fine qualities with many of the board, not the least of which being more than human.>>

Alexis Carr has posed:
Allegra keeps her gaze mostly on the singer, but her dark eyes dart to Emma for a brief moment, catching the frown. She narrows her eyes a brief moment as she looks over the girl singing.

    <<How do I move up?>>

Emma Frost has posed:
<<Nothing specific.>> Emma hmms a bit over her drink. <<When you're ready, and there's a need... then you do. Like any job, really. But you will be ready, I think, when a place opens for you to move into.>> "Oh, lovely, this song fits her voice far better," she murmurs. <<There's no secret handshake or ritual,>> she teases dryly. <<Like anything, its about being in the right place at the right time.>>

Alexis Carr has posed:
<<Have I mentioned my tendency to sling myself into completely avoidable situations? I think the sole right, time, right place was meeting with you and Alex. Maybe I should play piano more often.>> comes a very amused response. "Mm. You're right. Lower notes suit her better. The sultriness of the song suits her well. Perhaps more like this." she replies to keep the pretense of conversation. She steeples her fingers a moment, dark eyes narrowing. <<In the mean time, I'll have to make myself accessable to meet the other members of the board. I won't let it get in the way of work, fret not.>>

Emma Frost has posed:
<<Consider it part of your duties,>> Emma gives a slight smile to the younger woman. <<So it couldn't possibly be getting in the way thereof.>> She chuckles a bit. "Any word from your father?"

Alexis Carr has posed:
<<Fantastic, I get to sling myself into avoidable situations on a professional basis now? Does superheroism pay well? How's the dental?>>

"Mm. He found out my mother has been paying for an apartment in Brooklyn for my use. He's quite cross and is beginning to demand I honor a contract signed on my behalf by him to perform. He's witholding several of my possessions and threatening to follow with a breach of contract lawsuit. I had let him know I would have to ask my employer for time to find a barrister and review options considering he signed the contract on my behalf, to himself in the name of an organization which he runs on my performances." she gives a soft huff. "What an ass."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma snorts. "We have better lawyers at our disposal. If you need them, let me know." Her phone chirps, and she checks it, her face lighting up a bit. "Alex is actually home for once this week... so I think dinner might be in order. We'll need to do this again sometime."

Alexis Carr has posed:
"Do send my regards to Alex when you meet." Allegra gives a smile, and she gathers her paper folio, and slides it over to Emma. "Messages from through-out the day that did not get forwarded. Most of them can be ignored. I've highlighted a few that may be of interest." she states, and glances down to teh table before she reaches to finish her drink, and looks to the paler woman.

"We should. I know of a small opera company that is doing a presentation of highlights from Die Fleidermaus after Halloween. I should think if you have any mind for a Dutch opera it may be of interest. They're doing some... modern musical updates. I can at least treat you to a dinner beforehand, on the town." she states with a little smile.

    "If you would like."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma grins. "Sounds great." She takes the folio, flipping through it a moment before closing it to check later. "Let me know when. I'll tell him you said hi, and..." she gestures towards the singer as she rises, "enjoy the rest of your evening."
