A Nighttime View Of Starling City.
Date of Scene: 30 September 2020
Location: Central Business District - Starling City
Synopsis: Oliver and Vanessa talk atop a Starling skyscraper about Vanessa's plans to try to clean up New Lots.
Cast of Characters: Oliver Queen, Vanessa Carlysle

Oliver Queen has posed:
The central business district is one of those places in Starling City that has been growing immensely in the last few years, much due to Queen Consolidated investments in the city, along with Merlyn enterprises which keep the area a veritable well of activity during the day. Motion, sound, traffic. A metropolis indeed.. At night it changes though, becoming eerily quiet, barely anyone out in the streets, just the occasional car too. Some office windows still have lights in them, those unfortunate workers burning the midnight oil to reach a deadline but all in all it's quiet..

And a good place for Oliver to bring Vanessa after their Lian Yu venture. She had been hurt during it, her ribs and so he was making sure to take it easy on the first forays out, wandering the rooftops of the business district and stopping atop a particularly tall one that gave a view of Queen Consolidated and the surrounding grounds. He is dressed in the leathers of the Green Arrow, bow on his back, foot on the edge of the building, overseeing the streets. "So different from daylight, isn't it?" he asks..

Eyes turn to look over at Vanessa, he asking. "How are your ribs?"

Vanessa Carlysle has posed:
Vanessa's winch pulls her to the top of the building and she climbs over the edge. She gives her torso a little pat, atop the flak jacket she's wearing there for extra protection. "See. Good as new," she tells him, managing to hide the discomfort if there was any.

Quiver walks over to join the Green Arrow where he stands at the edge, resting a hand on the back of his shoulder as she joins him in the view. "It really does," she agrees. "New Lots, when it turns night? It's like... whatever was left that was wholesome goes to ground and hides itself away," she says of the New York slums she lived in for years. "Starling City is different," she says as she looks around. "It gets even more beautiful at night. More... precious? I don't know the right word for it," she tells Oliver.

Quiver rests her head against Oliver's shoulder lightly. "I was thinking, maybe I can do some good back there. New Lots, I mean," she says. "I mean, there's a lot of people that failed that city, too," she says. "Maybe I can make a difference if I spend some time there each week?"

Oliver Queen has posed:
Hiding it or not there is a certain .., suspicion out of Oliver. Too many years handling rebels like Thea and Roy who always insist they are just fine. Heck, they even make use of the same words often enough! "Mmhmmm.." is the reply from Oliver, lips pressed to a line and his hood shifting down when he turns to observe the area where Vanessa was hit those weeks ago. "If you say so." nope, not convinced!

His eyes turn to look back to the city of Starling, smiling faintly at Quiver's words. Yes, he very much felt the same about the city. A precious thing that he tried his best to keep whole and safe. His arm moves to wrap about the woman's waist. "It's full of memories too." he murmurs, pointing down to a street below them. "Used to go home with my father through this particular street when I was a kid. There was a particular icecream shop down there where we always got one to go. Fun times." yes, he has been somewhat melancholic as of late after returning from the island.

At those last words from her he does look at her with more attention. He nods. "You should." he says, "Your path should be your own. Do you want me to go with? Or do you wish to do it on your own?"

Vanessa Carlysle has posed:
As she hears the story, Vanessa remembers stopping there with her father, how much she looked forward to it. Wait. Oliver's father, not hers. Oliver, not her. Vanessa doesn't mention anything about the memory though. Just because she has Oliver's memories doesn't mean she would want to intrude on them. Or to take from him the enjoyment of sharing them himself.

Her hands brushes slowly back and forth across the back of Oliver's costume, up near where the leather ends so he can feel it better. "Well, maybe some days we can go together. Other times just me. I know how much you have to take care of. The company and the city. I'll give it a start myself. But when I hit something I could use some help, I'll definitely let you know," she tells him. "Or, you know. Just if you want to have a romantic night out with me, encouraging drug dealers to stop. I wouldn't try to quash the romantic in you," she teases, batting her eyes towards him.

Oliver Queen has posed:
Oliver turns his eyes back to the streets once more, watching, it so quiet.., just the those faint brushes of wind bathing them up there on that tall building. He dips his head in understanding at Vanessa and how she wishes to go about her trips to New Lots. "Just make sure to be careful." he tells her.

"You are still very new at all this, even with the powers you got. Not that it stopped me from going out on my own and doing my own thing when I started too. But I had no mentor back then." His voice deep even without the modulator. Eyes go back to Vanessa, "I just need to figure out where the best flower shops in New York are." he teases back, a faint smile returning to his lips, "I will leave the choice of scenery to you."

Vanessa Carlysle has posed:
Vanessa lets out a warm laugh, fingers brushing the back of Green Arrow's neck. "Well, the good thing about this, is you're always there with me to be my mentor," she says, touching her head. "Though I do need to keep learning on my own." Indeed, she'll let his memories and skills slip away before long bouts of training, so she can master the skills for herself gradually. Though still picking his back up, for now, before it comes to actually going out into danger.

"I figure with April living in the area, and her reporter's intellect, I'll kind of have a girl in the chair who can help guide me to things. That way even though I won't be there around the clock, at least there'll still be someone keeping an eye on things," she says.

Oliver Queen has posed:
"Yes, you do. Relying on memories does not help in your development." Oliver replies. "But there are ways around it. And training is always training, your muscles will naturally develop, along with fighting skills." he exhales slowly. "Well, let me know how it goes. We can keep a communication feed going just in case the danger gets .., too much.."

The mention of April makes him look at Vanessa again, reaching up with his hand to squeeze Vanessa's. "Too bad she wasn't home when we visited the other day. His friend is.., rather peculiar. But then again, considering who she lives with.." he lifts his shoulders in a small shrug.

Vanessa Carlysle has posed:
Vanessa Carlysle lets out a breath. "Yes, the whole Harley thing," Vanessa says with a shake of her head. "I mean she sort of didn't have a choice. Definitely not at first. Go along with her or risk, you know. But she seems to have taken a huge liking to April. And frankly she's probably safer doing nothing to risk that. Maybe she'll turn one day, but if April tried to get away from her, that could definitely tip the scales that way on its own."

The wind stirs, blowing in from the bay, carrying the tang of salt water on it. "You know, moments like this it would be great to have a cape. Though not the other times. I don't know how they stop them from giving them away on a windy day. But just... the imagery on a rooftop, you know?" she tells Green Arrow with a small grin. "You've come a long way since a hoodie though," she says.
