Debriefing and Responses
Date of Scene: 08 March 2020
Location: Mission Center
Synopsis: Four X-Men meet to coordinate the investigations on the Genosha Massacre
Cast of Characters: Scott Summers, Lorna Dane, Jean Grey, Samuel Guthrie

Scott Summers has posed:
When the others arrive to the mission room the scent of freshly made coffee is already on the air. Scott was insistent they needed a classical coffee machine among all the high-tech gadgets. Not a Shi'ar do-all device, but the real deal.

He asked Jean to be here so she can kick him under table if he gets too pushy when questioning Lorna.

Sam being here is his homework. Scott expects the young man to lead the X-Men at some point before he is 25. He needs vacations now he has a daughter and a granddaughter around. Life is getting weirder.

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna had been slow to make progress dealing with her trauma. For every step forward she took two steps back. Wanda had visited a few times, and had even convinced her to make her first public appearance at the Genoshan Memorial in Mutant Town. But for all that she had spoken to the crowd, she had quickly gone back to avoiding people soon after.

At least today, she was dressed. With shoes. Her hair was a rough mess of green tangles, luckily shorter and less prone to knots than before. And shadows still ringed her eyes, though at the moment no red irritated the corners to show any hints of recent tears.

The green haired woman sat hunched, her hands wrapped around her mug of coffee, still too hot to drink. She still wore black, and had been since she'd been found, and she was limited in what clothing options she had.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean came in and immediately goes for the coffee, telekinetically pouring herself a cup and then stirring in some cream. With all that's been going on for her, well... it's good to practice her mental discipline. Which making a perfect cup of coffee for //her// is a pretty good indicator. The cup slowly floats over to her, as she takes a seat next to Lorna, giving the other mutant woman a bit of a concerned look before flickering her gaze back over towards Scott.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie comes walking into the room as well. He is running a hand through hsi hair. It looks slightly darker than normal, like a dye job might be getting washed out but not totaly gone yet.

Scott Summers has posed:
"Thank you for agreeing to do this, Lorna," begins Scott. "I know it is not easy. But we need to get all the data clear and prepare a counter-attack. What happened to Genosha was... beyond belief, beyond anything we could have imagined. I am not sure New York could weather such assault even with all the American super-team on alert. Therefore it is critical to determine the origin of the attack and eliminate any chance of a second strike."

A holo-map of the Genosha Island appears. Hammer Bay on red. Lines gold slide over the island, like a wave of death. The largest reaches Carrion Cove mere minutes after Hammer Bay's obliteration. "First question is why Genosha radar and satellite coverage didn't detect those huge things coming. Also, did anyone? I am sure all the major powers had sensors aimed to Genosha. I think we should contact SHIELD next week."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna shrugged at Scott's brief thank you before he moved onto the facts. She kept her gaze low, and on her coffee, she didn't seem interested in looking at the holo-map. The cold, clinical way that Scott went on to discuss tactics and surveillance and how things happened. She pursed her lips.

"I don't know. I wasn't looking at the security, or the island's ... anything. I was in the Parliament building. I was in a meeting discussing the children's hospital that was going to be opened soon. I was being asked to say something.. and to.. to.." She trailed off, her breath escaping her in a great rush. She inhaled and exhaled deeply, a shudder following down her spine. Her skin going paler by degrees as she spoke.

"There were... loud bangs.. Things were just shaking. And I-I ran out.. We thought it was an earthquake." She cut off, her voice choked, her shoulders rising ever higher in her distress.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean places a hand on Lorna's shoulder, giving her some physical reassurance to go along with the mental help as she looks at Scott, "Well, we know Sentinels have ways to counteract mutant powers, so maybe they had some sort of stealth technology for more conventional sensors too? It's... definitely a concern, to put it mildly."

She sips her coffee, then hmms, giving Lorna a concerned look before glancing at Scott, "Has anyone on the ground there found out anything new?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie moves to have a seat, listening to all this and says "I aint heard anything new, do know there are other heroes who are trying to make a point we all are one. Power girl droped in on the pro humana thing last night.

Scott Summers has posed:
Scott hrms at Lorna. Yes, he is trying to be calm and logical about this. Millions of mutants killed like this is quite frankly a situation he had never imagined. Not like this. Not in Genosha, who he thought was quite safe from Sentinels due to its defenses and defenders.

"Power Girl, interesting. Perhaps if the Justice League was still active this disaster could have been prevented," but then again, neither the Fantastic Four or the Avengers detected the attack in time.

Jean gets a nod. "Stealth technology is likely. But look at the scale. Those 'mother mold' Sentinels are the size of an helicarrier. And I am sure Magneto had detection systems as good as the best America has right now."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna exhaled a breath, lifting her gaze as Jean reaches out with a hand to settle on her shoulder. "I didn't //sense// them showing up until they were on top of us. And when I was outside the palace was already gone. I didn't have time to think or act before they were firing on me and I couldn't do //anything//." She bit out, her shoulders shaking briefly.

She seemed to struggle for sometime to manage her emotions, to draw back and breathe. She was on the verge of hyperventilating but not quite. Training kicked in, and she slowed her breathing and shut her eyes for a long moment.

"Whatever our sensors picked up or didn't pick up.. it didn't matter. They were there already and attacking. And everything was gone before a warning could go out. No one came running in to tell me anything was wrong. No one knew what was going on until it happened." She exhaled a breath, her eyes watering with tears. She reached up with both hands to press against her temples as her tears welled up and spilled down her cheeks.

"They were all dead. And I couldn't stop it. I couldn't help anyone. I didn't know who to help. They were all dead. Everywhere..."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean slides her arm around Lorna, embracing her, "You're helping now, by letting us know what happened. There's nothing you could have done about this." She does gives Scott a bit of a warning look, no heat there of course... but he knows her non-verbal cues well enough.

Then she says, "Maybe we need to get Forge or Hank in there, get some more analysis done on the ground. It seems like they just appeared... teleportation or something, maybe? But then again, who has access to that tech and would use it for this?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over and says "See if we can get a read on what they made of. I am guessing it is not normal metal so might be some leads from that. Either by who made the the material or who bought it. " He scratches his chin a bit to this and says "Also might be able to look at some of the radar and weather recordings. If they don't show on the scans, maybe there is a blank spot we can follow back or something.

Scott Summers has posed:
Scott looks at Lorna with concern. The young woman seems unable to give a report, so perhaps this meeting is too soon.

But they might be out of time. A giant Sentinel could hit the school today, for all he knows. He looks at Jean and nods. "We can't discard teleportation, no. But there would be an energy trail. It might have also been an inside job. Maybe some disgruntled ex-Magistrates sabotaged the defenses." Then to Sam, "that is an excellent idea. We need samples of the big Sentinels and the drones. Not just metal, also some electronics. Maybe we can find out where they were built from the composition, and who built them from the circuitry design."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna inhaled and exhaled slowly, as Jean wrapped her arms around her, she seemed to slow the torrent of tears that stung her eyes. At least enough to listen to what Sam had asked. She sat up, breathing hard as she seemed to catch herself on his question. "No. They were .. parts of them were metal. I could feel them.. I just.. I didn't before.." She looked confused, her eyebrows furrowing sharply.

"There's still the remains on the island. Or I mean.. there were. If no one cleaned them up." She hesitated, her eyes red rimmed again as she wiped her nose against her sleeve and rubbed her eyes.

"There was a big one. Massive.. it.. I-I." She swallowed and reached for her coffee with shaking hands. "It had three faces... heads. I dunno. Jean, you saw it when you found me... Right?"

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean nods, "I saw that, yes. It wasn't like anything I had seen before." She frowns, "I'm not sure where it would have come from, but investigating what that thing was is definitely a good starting point. Though it sounds like... well, if they avoided your senses until they were literally on top of you." She considers, "Sounds like some way to either travel instantly, or just avoiding detection to arrive, but avoiding detection for that long seems... unlikely."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over and says "There is someone I think who might have known it was coming." He looks to the group and says Mr. Sinister was there pretty quickly, and had his guys out collecting samples quickly." He looks over to Lorna "What was the difference in the three faces?"

Scott Summers has posed:
"But we know Sinister has access to advanced teleporting systems," mentions Scott. Still, Scott he wouldn't be surprised if Essex was already lurking in Genosha, given his obsession with mutants. If so, too bad the Sentinels didn't get him.

Maybe they could try to talk to him. No, no. BAD IDEA. He strangles that thought very fast. But perhaps not so fast Jean didn't hear it.

"By the way. This reminds me. We need to destroy those things as soon as possible," he takes notes on a laptop. "There will be scavengers all over Genosha soon. I don't want whatever technologies were used to built the Sentinels in the hands of anyone else."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna shook her head briefly, "I'm not surprised he was there after. But I didn't see him.. I don't remember seeing anyone.. after." She swallowed hard and reached up with her hands to bury them in her hair. A sigh followed as she reached out to grab her coffee mug again. She struggled for a long moment.

"I'm not helpful. I'm sorry."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean shakes her head, "You've been pretty helpful so far, Lorna. There was a lot going on and with all the chaos... honestly, getting us what you have so far has been a godsend." She smiles reassuringly at the green-haired woman, then hrms at Scott, "Sinister? I don't think he'd be behind //this//, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that vulture lurking around."

At Scott's thought, well... Jean catches it, and doesn't say anything about it. Though her brows narrow rather alarmingly as she looks again at Scott.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over and says "I will go see if I can get some of the people out there to get us some samples, and make plans on getting them taken out.

Scott Summers has posed:
Scott glances back to Jean. No, there will be no talking with Sinister.

To Lorna, he nods. "It is alright. You needed to be here anyway. And we will keep you up to date on all the investigation. If you remember any detail you think could be useful, let Jean or me know, please."

As Sam leaves to find out about samples, Scott closes the laptop and goes to get another mug of coffee. "I think we should contact the Avengers and SHIELD officially. Secrecy has its place, but it is not now. About one third of the mutants of the world have been murdered, along with millions of humans. I need a volunteer to go talk with Stark. And another one to find Nick Fury or one of the other top-ranked SHIELD leaders in Xavier's trusted list."
