Moving Back In. Sort of.
Date of Scene: 22 October 2020
Location: Vanessa Carlysle's old Brooklyn apartment
Synopsis: Casey helps Vanessa move some furniture back into her old Brooklyn slums apartment, so the Turtles (and herself) can use it as a safehouse.
Cast of Characters: Vanessa Carlysle, Casey Jones

Vanessa Carlysle has posed:
Vanessa had offered her old apartment as a safehouse for the turtles. It's not too far from April's place, only a few blocks. But should there be danger, it would be safer than possibly leading someone to April's home.

The only thing is that Vanessa had cleared out her stuff and sold off (ok, given away) her furniture when she moved out to go live in Starling City at the Queen mansion. So if the place is going to be a crash space, it needs something to crash on.

Vanessa calls up Casey and April and others, saying she's buying some furniture to restock the place again, and if anyone can help her move it in that would be wonderful. She shows up at the place at the appointed time.

The building itself is your stereotypical slum. The landlord avoids paying for any repair he doesn't absolutely have to. The elevator isn't working, half of the hallway and stair lights are out, though the residents have taken to replacing some of the latter after one or two people had falls there. The hallway carpets are worn and look bad, there are even holes in the wall here and there. And that's just the cosmetic issues. Plumbing, electrical, heating, all have ongoing issues.

But, people won't be living there, as Vanessa did. Just using it as an emergency space.

Casey Jones has posed:
Casey is coming down in his truck. His hand is bashing along the metal side on the side as he is blasting out classic rock. He pulls up, getting out of the truck quickly. As he looks at Vanessa and nodding towards the building."Okay, let's get dis going. I'll left, and I heard der be issues. I brought my kit, and I'll work on em." That large man is brushing back his hair out of his eyes, as he moves towards her examing things, picking the first thing to carry up."I gots this."

Vanessa Carlysle has posed:
Vanessa smiles to Casey as she sees him pull up. "Oh wonderful, was afraid it was going to be just me. I could get a few other people from here to help, but the people most capable of helping weren't in," she tells him.

There is a sofa and four twin beds, just the mattresses and box springs. A coffee table, two living room chairs. A small table for the kitchen and four chairs for it. Plus end tables, night stands, some lamps. "I've got some food being delivered later too," she tells him. "I hope the guys like the stuff I got. I went by what April had bought to take out to the farm," she tells him.

She goes over and picks up a few lamps to carry up. A kid of about 15, but undersized, comes outside. "There you are, hey Angelo. This is my friend Casey. Can you watch the stuff here while we're carrying it up?" she asks him. He nods his head, stuffing his hands in his jacket pocket against the cold wind. "Sure thing Vanessa. Hey Casey. Thanks for helping her out," he says. "Nice to see her back around here, even if it's not full time."

Casey Jones has posed:
Casey is lifting moving. He is quiet right now, lost in his head. As he is moving things, as he nods at the kid."Yeah, your welcome and stuff." He is carrying up things, quickly trying to get this bit done. He is hustling up and down as he wants to get to the hard bit of fixing that broken shit.

Trying to make sure Vanessa is not carrying most of it, male pride and all that good stuff. As he sets it up, making sure it makes sense to him, but knowing deep down April will have him move it again. He goes down one more time for his tools."I'm check out the pipes and electrical, and shit make sure aint' no fires or trouble."

Vanessa Carlysle has posed:
Vanessa helps with the heavier stuff, there being two flights of stairs to ascend to the third floor apartment. She shows him around once inside the first time. There's not much. The living room and kitchen are essentially one room that just differs by the floor being tile or carpet. A tiny bathroom and a small bedroom. The latter can hold the four twin-size beds, but it doesn't leave a lot of room for any thing else including a dresser.

After they get the furniture in, Vanessa waves Casey away from having to position it all. "I can drag it around," she tells him. "Any way, April will probably want to move it. Right?" She also got a small television, which she turns on and finds an old movie to play.

Vanessa looks around as Casey returns with his tools. "Well, this is in better shape than most of the building. I met a nice guy, a doctor, who helped a neighbor who was hurt. And when he saw my place, he sent a contractor he hired to fix it up. And he did a lot. There's still things that went wrong after though. The water won't shut off completely in the bathroom, and there's a leak under the sink again. The bedroom light switch, sometimes the light flickers a bit like there's a short," she says for starters.

Casey Jones has posed:
Casey grunts and nods as he walks into the bathroom with his gear, as he looks down at the sink with a look of focused power. He is examing it, trying to figure it out. He is grinning."You got an amateur; I got this shit." His tools quickly removing, as he can get that leak to stop quickly as he reattaches things slowly."I mean, I have been doing this stuff for money since I was a kiddo, ya know. Dad died and had to bring in income and shit." He is looks around now, as he bites his lip softly."Yeah, leave it and Apes will have me move it again. Get it up is goal always."

Vanessa Carlysle has posed:
The food arrives, Angelo helping carry that up now there isn't furniture sitting out front to guard. When he finishes, Vanessa passes him a bag from the grocery store. If Casey notices she also pulls out some money and slips to him more discretely. He seems a little embarrassed by it, but only slightly, and he takes it and slips it into his own pocket. "Thanks for helping, Angelo. I'll be sure to stop by more when I'm in the area," she tells him. And not dressed in archer attire.

He heads off, and Vanessa closes the door. There are three deadbolts, plus a chain on it. She locks all of them. Then starts to step away. Then steps back, unlocks and relocks each one by one as if assuring they are truly locked. "So," she says as she moves back to start putting the groceries away. "Sounds like you've definitely gotten good with it," she agrees. "So was that your parent's farm? Or others in the family?" she asks. "It's a nice place out there."

Casey Jones has posed:
"Uncles, he is not doing well. So he let me have it." Casey's working now on checking the volatage with his device, watching it with a little chuckle."Aint' got much left in the family way ya know." His eyes watching, as he nods slowly sighing softly."Voltage is too fucked up for me to fix, without breakers, and I'll do it if we stay here long term." He slides it back into that tool belt, as he chews on his lips thinking for a moment."It is a good farm, ya I live there mostly. Stay out of the fucking city."

Vanessa Carlysle has posed:
Vanessa is putting things into the pantry. She went for items that shouldn't perish soon, though after short stays at the farm, she fully expects it will be delivery pizza eaten by anyone who stays here, food or not.

She looks over as he comments on the power. "Yes, whole building needs to be rewired I imagine," she says with a sigh. "Long as it's safe. That was my concern that it's not back there sparking or something," she tells him.

She pulls out some paper towel, putting one in the holder and the rest under the sink. "I grew up on a... well not that kind of farm, but a farm of sorts. Catfish farm. My uncle's place. It was mostly a bunch of lined pits filled with water. Some heaters and covers to help come winter," she tells him.

Casey Jones has posed:
"I see. Myself I grow up right here in this awful city." Casey nods slowly his hand is sliding along the wall slowly as his eyes close now thinking for a moment."I mean, it's not that awful for some but for me it has been. I got to run down to the shop, and got a few cars coming in today. I wanted to help setup, but yeah that is my next stop. It should be good, just leave and everyone will show up. They do it best in the quiet I have learned." With that he turns for the door.
