A Consultation!
Date of Scene: 16 November 2020
Location: Avengers Mansion - Labs
Synopsis: Identification, expectations and discussion on training and improving. Welcome to the wild world of mutantkind!
Cast of Characters: Henry McCoy, Shannon Davis

Henry McCoy has posed:
Hank Pym had reached out, having known of Henry's specializations in genetics, mutants, and numerous other sciences. Henry was glad to offer over his help - whether it be a consultation or counseling. Anything to keep his mind focused on more delicate and intellectual pursuits. An appointment had been made, the Avenger offering up access to one of their labs for the consultation.

Henry was on site early, dressed in his professional attire - button-down shirt, slacks and a white lab coat. He'd been fine-tuning the equipment, preparing for any tests needed. Once that was all setup, he sat in one of the chairs, waiting on Shannon to arrive.

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis had barely been able to sleep, her brain was fixated obsessively on the outcome of her meeting with Henry. It was not just nervousness over meeting someone so important and, well, so academically accomplished. It was also the fact that these qualities made this a unique, essential opportunity for her greatest goal at the moment, improving the state of her powers. She churned and burned for it. After getting through the reception she makes her way over to the labs and politely knocks on the entrance before poking her head in. "Um, is this the right place? This place is a bit confusing."

Henry McCoy has posed:
At the knock on the door, and the poking in of the head, Henry offers a smile. "If you are Miss Davis, then yes." The big man gets to his feet, nodding to her and extending a hand. "Dr. Henry McCoy, at your service. Dr. Pym suggested I meet you, to see if I can offer any assistance to your newly found situation?" He offers, delicately.

"Come in, relax... as best you can. I imagine the nerves are pretty ramped up, in coming in to a laboratory." He chuckles, running fingers through his hair. "Perhaps you can fill me in on what's going on with you?"

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis gets glimmering eyes when she slides in and looks around, all the sciency stuff was very reassuring. She goes up to him quite eagerly and smiles in an excited fashion. It was safe to assume most people would be very apprehensive or even freaking out at the manifestation of powers, in her case it was the opposite. "So, uh. I found out I can launch things by touching them. Dr. Pym is helping me out a bunch in figuring out how it works, but it's still a bit confusing. The issue is that, well, at least for me..." She pauses for a few moments, getting a very intense, fiery expression that crosses her features for a moment. "They're too weak." She says with absolute certainty in her tone.

Henry McCoy has posed:
The man smiles at her enthusiasm, chuckling just a touch. "So, you magnify kinetic energy into touched items?" Henry re-phrases, motioning to a chair for her to sit and relax. "Is it something that just came to be? Any odd or unusual incidents that may have sparked this?" He asks, sitting himself and relaxing. "Dr. Pym mentioned this might be a genetic condition, a recently realized mutant ability?"

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis widens her smile a bit, nodding at his explanation. "Yeah! That's exactly it. I can kinda charge the thing I'm touching if I keep holding on." She replies, her lips twisting from side to side as she thinks back. "No, I don't think anything unusual happened. I just kinda started noticing things kept weirdly falling out of my hands and eventually it got to the point where I can shoot them out, over a couple of weeks. He mentioned if it's genetic I should be able to train it like my body, so I hope it is at least. Not some demon that possessed me or something."

Henry McCoy has posed:
A friendly chuckle at that. "Good, I don't think I am qualified to help with those sort of situations - though I could point you to other people who might help." The Beast grins. "Would you mind a blood test? I can narrow it down to see if you are of homosapiens superior stock, or something else." He explains. "And, you seem to be in the look for some experimentation with your gifts and increasing the control and potency?"

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis paces around a little, seeming quite anxious, way too much to take a sitting position. "Uh, superior, I assume that would be good. What do you mean something else? Like an alien?" She extends an arm, wordlessly giving him permission to conduct the test, by her expression she probably wouldn't mind even if he had to cut a piece of it out, she was really determined. "I sure am, I gotta figure out all the things I can do, but most of all I need to figure out how to make it...uh...go harder." She does a shoving motion in the air with her other hand to elaborate her point.

Henry McCoy has posed:
The doctor nods, smiling. "Slow steps are generally best. Pushing yourself can be bad for others, or yourself." He comments. He moves over to one of the trays, getting a hypo gun to take a quick sample. He's good at it - barely any notice, quick poke and the vial fills. "It is possible you have a unique heritage - Asguardian, Atlantean, or any other numerous sorts." He offers, placing a cotton ball on the injection site. "Just give a bit of pressure there for about a minute."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis squeezes the spot, nodding a few times. "Hm, I see. Well, I kinda like the idea of being just a different human, honestly. I think we gotta prove we can be just as imposing as the aliens and other stuff." She says with a soft huff. "That's why I want to push myself, I'm so weak right now, I feel that if I don't I'll never catch up. Haven't you ever seen some overpowered monstrosity on the news and thought it's bullshit that something like that exists while you're here struggling to open a pickle jar? Though, I guess you in particular wouldn't have much issue with that."

Henry McCoy has posed:
The blood sample is placed into one of the testing devices. "Looking to good by the human race?" He grins over to her, offering her a bandaid for the poked spot. "It's admirable. I will advise, that unfortunately there are people out there who won't share your enthusiasm if you do turn out to be a mutant." A sad smile. "But there are a lot of us out there to help you find your footing." A few moments later, he looks to the test machine. "Well, you are a mutant. Homosapiens Superior." He offers over with a smile.

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis sighs with relief, she hadn't noticed how stressed she had been by this. It was as if she would have betrayed her own principles by being something else. "Eh- there's always gonna be people against you no matter who or what you are. I don't really care about that stuff, if they don't like me they can fight me or go away." She says very matter-of-factly, nodding at herself. She then beams excitedly. "So how do I get stronger now? Do I gotta like, drink gene juice or something? Or go into some mutating radiation machine? Nanomachines?"

Henry McCoy has posed:
The man laughs. "Practice. There are ways to practice to improve upon your gifts. There are always limits, but they shift from time to time. There's no telling where the line is, as your body grows and your understanding of your gifts expands. I'd be glad to put in a word for you to some of the other mutants I know, and I'd be happy to help you learn more about what you can do."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis rubs her chin thoughtfully, she wasn't sure if she preferred it this way or an easy way. "Right... I really appreciate all the help. Um. So if I gotta practice then I could definitely use help figuring out the best way to do that. Like, working out is easy, lift heavy things, but how do I work *this* out?" She gestures a bit ass she speaks, frowning a little, it was still a bit of a confusing concept for her. "It's not like I have muscles that do it. I think."

Henry McCoy has posed:
Henry grins. "You start small, then increase what you are doing. A lot like working out muscles - it's practicing an ability that's new and needs to be honed." He taps his temple. "Kind of like practice when it comes to scholastic endeavors. it's just applied differently." He assures. "Trust me, rushing into things might get you into a very bad spot."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis groans a bit, it was sounding much slower than she had hoped, but there was some positive sides to the slowness. "So if I keep practicing shooting gradually bigger things it should start getting stronger too? It's a bit hard to output more force than I normally do, uh, usually if I do it to a bigger thing it just doesn't go as far, instead of going the same distance with more effort. Do you think repeating it a bunch would start strengthening my powers? Oh! Maybe if I do it to a wall or something and just go at it for as long as possible."

Henry McCoy has posed:
"Those are all good methods of practice, Miss Davis." He agrees, smiling. "And I know, it's a slow and steady pace, but in the long run the results will be much more complete than not." Hank assures. "I understand the want to jump into it - I do. Just, trust me on this part?"

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis breathed in deeply, it was visible she was struggling with the idea of not diving headfirst into it, quite a bit in fact. It was both an emotional tendency and also a more physical need, stemmed from her addiction to adrenaline inducing situations. "Okay, I'll try to take it easy. I'm not sure how long I can hold off though, I'm dying to put them to action. But I'll try not to until I can use them better." She takes a long pause, seeming to get quite serious. "So... you've probably seen a buncha different mutants, right?" She takes a long pause to formulate her question after that. "How much stronger did they ever get? What sort of ceiling am I looking at here?"

Henry McCoy has posed:
He thinks on how to approach that. "I've seen people start small - someone moving fast, lifting small objects with their mind... to being near invisible with speed, or lifting warships." He admits, with a smile. "Again, not everyone is set to things on the same scale, but there's no way for me to determine off hand what your limits will be." A nod. "I'd suggest getting into a regime of practice - and working out the rest of your body. I've found that keeping up in physical fitness helps me."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis smiles, for a moment her expression goes from excited to something beyond, an intense wildness overtaking it. It lasts for a few moments before she nods and it begins to fade out again. "He heh. Excellent." She clenches her hands tightly, a very faint swishing sound being produced. "I'm gonna work them out so hard." She was not satisfied with being a featherweight, her mind ached for the big leagues. "Thanks so much for the help. I know what I gotta do now. It was really hard to figure it out when I didn't really know where my powers were coming from and stuff."

Henry McCoy has posed:
The Beast nods, handing her a business card. "I'll be around and I will let you know if I have some training lined up for you, all right? Don't be reckless, and if you have any questions - call day or night." He smiles. "I'm more than willing to help, and keep things safe."
