Synopsis: Spider-Man finds himself challenged by a raccoon girl after foiling a bodega robbery.
Cast of Characters: Irina-As17, Peter Parker

Irina-As17 has posed:
Irina-AS17 was periodically set loose upon different areas of the country, her tasks were simple, to run combat tests against a particular demographic. In reality what she fought didn't matter much, the true purpose of these tests were to make her push herself to promote further growth, as long as she survived it would be fine. As such she was allowed to go hunt whatever she preferred, which currently meant she was skipping above buildings and scanning the streets for any criminals whatsoever, she was burning to deliver her most precious justice to any and all. Her black kevlar armor made her presence fairly similar to a certain bat-themed heroine, but what was below was no hero at all.

Peter Parker has posed:
One good thing about the new suit? Space for a compact MP3 player. He liked to listen to music, and right now U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name" is going strong on the playlist.

He is doing his usual webslinging thing, rising and descending between buildings, his ease of travel suggesting gravity was more a guideline than a law with him.

He's pretty easy to spot, too, as he goes from line to line, but he slows down as he spots two guys moving into a bodega below him. Jeez, it's Sunday night!

Spider-Man descends to see what the deal is, cutting the music.

Irina-As17 has posed:
Irina-AS17 knew looking for particularly fancy and flashy fashion was an easy way to track who she needed to fight, it made things fairly simpler on her when she saw some kind of costume-wearing person moving somewhere. It meant there would either be trash to take out or some hero trials to scratch off her list, not that she had been given particularly detailed instructions on identifying other heroes besides the ones that were top priority. As a result she, too, approaches the place, though at a drastically slower pace thanks to her lack of webs. She did also want to see if they were dealing with thugs or something more interesting first, as well.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man eyes the scene through the window. Yep. One guy with a pistol, the other going through the alcohol section, pulling out five bottles of high-test liquor.

A little close-quarters for him to pop inside and start slinging webs.
On the other hand...
A smile spread over his masked face.

Trent and Bode were enjoying the whole thing. It was like free money. Burst in, wave guns around, grab stuff, then go party.
Trent holds the pistol on the guy, then followed Bode out the door.

Things go downhill immediately. Bode had gotten about ten feet out the door before his feet went down and wouldn't come up again. It certainly surprised Trent, who slammed into Bode's back.
"Hey! What are you...?"
And then he looked down and realized he couldn't move. His feet (and Bode's) were stuck to the street.

"Boys...?"
Both looked to the right to see Spider-Man, leaning against the wall.
"Tonight...is REALLY not your night."

Irina-As17 has posed:
Irina-AS17 stared over with a squint, things seemed to be handled already, that was surprisingly quick. It was also a bit of a bother, not just because she wouldn't be able to handle them the way she wanted but because they were pretty light thugs. She lands outside with a heavy impact, her armor producing a dull cloth-like noise along with a faintly plasticky sound. She frowns lightly, not quite sure how to approach, despite being a brainwashed soldier she was absolutely awful with social situation and surprisingly nervous about them. She fidgets a bit and lets the spider do his thing.

Peter Parker has posed:
Trent was about to groan but suddenly had a bright idea.
He still had the GUN.

The gun comes up, and suddenly Irina sees Spider-Man tense. Trent's only ten feet away, it's fish-in-a-barrel target practice.
Except when he fires, Spider-Man isn't where the bullet goes. Like he KNEW Trent was going to fire before Trent did.

Spider-Man steps forward and plucks the gun from Trent's hand. "I hate guns." He drops it in the webbing at their feet, letting it stick there.

Then he spots Irina. She does have a distinct look about her. Maybe the armor, or maybe it's the tail.

For a moment, he wonders if Squirrel Girl went for the hardcore look.
He steps around Trent and Bode, who turn (as best they can) to look at Irina. Bode gives Irina a wolf whistle. Trent gives him a slap upside the head, realizing they were in enough trouble.

"Hello, miss," Spider-Man says pleasantly, raising his right hand in greeting, allowing Irina to catch a glimpse of the web-shooter rig. "May I help you?"

Irina-As17 has posed:
Irina-AS17 narrowed her dark-circled eyes a bit, spotting the strange contraption. She stands there silently for longer than comfortable for a normal person, not seeming like the talkative type in the slightest. She steps into the store and stares the two criminals down, her face getting much harder and intense for a moment. It does look like she's about to jump the two of them before it softens a bit and she turns towards Peter.

She clears her throat uncomfortably, opens her mouth to speak, then closes it again and frowns. She calmly walks right up to the man and then finally nods. "We're going to fight." She says finally, before her left arm accelerates abruptly. The punch is drastically faster than your average person could swing, it was, infact, just pushing past peak human limits. However there were three significant issues with the attack, one was the fact that she was actually not a very good fighter. The second was the fact that her arm strength was lackluster compared to the speed. And third, of course, was the fact that it was very unlikely for it to land thanks to Peter's powers. Something she had an inkling of, which made her opt for the abrupt approach in order to test.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man blinks, then his head moves. It is a little slow, as if pacing the punch thrown.

Spidey eyes her for a moment. There's no malice, no constant threat. Just...something else, which is jangling his Spider-Sense in different ways.

"Hey! Hold on...if you want to fight, there's a place down the street. Nice wide-open park, no worries about damaging this lady's moichandise?" he says, indicating the cashier. "Follow me. I promise you'll get your fight."

Irina-As17 has posed:
Irina-AS17 blinks, she looks around the store, seeming a bit confused. Not by what he said specifically, but rather it looked more like she didn't quite understand the implications of fighting in a store. Her eyes slowly descend back on to him before she nods slowly. After turning towards the door she side-eyes the two criminals, a faint upset grunt being produced before she steps out, once more it's visible she was considering just coming at them for a moment.

In the end she figures the test is more important than two common thugs, so she leaves them be and heads over towards the park. "I'm taking them if they escape." She warns her opponent.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man looks behind him at her. Yep, she's giving them the stink-eye. "They ain't going anywhere. That webbing is good for a solid hour at least."
He looks forward, seeing the park. It's not a big park, but it's big enough.

"Well, you can call me Spider-Man. Or Spidey. There are other names, but I'd rather you not call me those. What would you like me to call you?"

Irina-As17 has posed:
Irina-AS17 lightly squints the left side of her face, glancing thoughtfully to the side. She wasn't expecting this kind of question, she had no answers prepared, there's a bit of a panic that crosses her face when she realizes she doesn't know how to respond. She had been specifically instructed not to expose any details about herself or the team behind her, though now she questioned what could be considered exposure

The result is that she stares at him wide-eyed for several moments. She wonders if these types of introductions were a requirement for fights. "Alpha 17...will do." She replies after a while, finally giving in with a long sigh. After that she slides into a simplistic fighting stance and starts sliding forwards slowly.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man shrugs. Well, it's not like he told her his name was Peter Parker, after all.

"All right...Alpha 17. Fair enough."
He settles into his own stance - resting on the rear foot, forward foot lightly resting on the ground. His feet shift slightly, mirroring his slight step to the left, keeping his body angled towards her but tilted slightly, to give her less of a target to strike at.

Irina-As17 has posed:
Irina-AS17 comes closer and closer, once she's within range she doesn't rely on her combat ability very much, opting to go all out with the particular way of fighting her mutation predisposed her towards. It involves accelerating her body as much as possible in short, animalistic bursts of agility, quite effect against most fighters, not so much against his particular power-set though. She bursts into a crouching position and tries to sweep his feet, a loud chittering noise is emitted from her throat. Since she depended on overwhelming her opponents with agility and he had predictive powers it made for a very poor match-up.

Peter Parker has posed:
Some things are easy to notice...if a bit infuriating.
He is very good. He has been trained in something, but it is subtly altered to fit his powerset. For the first few attacks, he is blocking the body shots, or dodging the sweeps and lower-body attacks.

The second is that his body is moving to handle her attacks in the most optimum way, as if her attacks are part of some choreographed dance.

The third is that she is leading, he is following, and he has not counter-attacked, only countering her attacks. He's defending, not rretaliating.

Irina-As17 has posed:
Irina-AS17 builds into a progressively more aggressive assault, going from sweeps and strikes to full-body blows and spinning kicks and finally all the way to leaping attacks, bouncing about wildly as she trikes landing a blow. It is a bit confusing to her, how he's able to avoid her attacks so well, she feels there is something amiss that she's not quite picking up on but can't figure out. More than that, she's confused as to why he is only dodging. She stops to question him, eyes narrowed. "What are you doing?"

Peter Parker has posed:
She is getting stronger and more capable. Yeah, she's progessing from the simple to the complex - he is seeing more pinpoints in her movements, indicating a growing complexity.

As she stops, he steps back, dancing lightly on his feet. "I'm...defending myself? I figured using the web-shooters was cheating."

Irina-As17 has posed:
Irina-AS17 lets out a displeased grunt, staring at him for a bit as she tries to figure out what exactly his deal is, seeming fairly confused. She slowly turns her head back towards the direction they came from before looking at him again, seeming to have made up her mind. "You win. So you can have them." Her tone is full of disappointment and an irritation centered on herself.

She turns around and offers him the most complex bit of dialogue yet. "Tell them it's their lucky day, this is their chance to give up on their ways. If they don't, next time they're mine." From there, unless he seeks to stop her, she proceeds by rushing towards the nearest building and starting to climb towards the rooftop.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man frowns. "Hey, wait...hang on a second. Maybe I misunderstood."
He takes a deep breath, then says, "Look, if you come back over here, maybe I can explain something to you?"

Irina-As17 has posed:
Irina-AS17 flicks her tail a bit in curiosity. She stops her ascent, but just hangs from one of her arms while turning her body over. She doesn't seem fully committed to chatting, but does also seem curious as to what he has to say. "What?" She asks fairly dryly.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man steps forward, uut stops just inside conversational range. Not too close.

"I have a...thing. I call it my Spider-Sense. It...kinda warns me when I am being threatened. It's why I know what attack is coming before it comes."

Irina-As17 has posed:
Irina-AS17 stares at him in silence as she's done before, but with a ponderous expression this time. That made sense. It also made her wonder why she didn't have a raccoon-sense, it was frustrating to some extent. "Hmmm...hmmmm..." She mutters to herself a bit before realizing something. "Wait. Why tell me this?" This was a much greater mystery than the nature of his powers.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man takes a deep breath. "Well, you looked a little frustrated, like you didn't know what was going on. I felt maybe I could help you understand. It looked like you were trying to understand."

Irina-As17 has posed:
Irina-AS17 tilts her head back and forth a few times before nodding in agreement. "Yes, correct." Her expression remains fairly confused, however. "But why does that matter to you? I do not see a benefit from telling me about this." Based on the way she was speaking it definitely seemed like she thought he was playing some kind of angle here.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man might look a little sheepish under the mask, but it's not easy to tell this time. "Well...I was concerned about your welfare. If it helps you understand yourself, then maybe I'm able to help you in more ways than one, Alpha."

Irina-As17 has posed:
Irina-AS17 now truly gave him a dumbfounded expression, her face scrunched up a little, her lips pressed together tightly. She stays in that position, seeming an equal measure of confused and uncomfortable due to the social pressure it put on her. "Uhhhhhhh." This was a very conflicting situation to what she had been led to believe about the so-called heroes. This was one she was definitely going to have to reflect about, which means that rather than giving him a response she retreats in a hurry, starting to crawl up the building with her stubby claws. She was way more distressed by this than anything else so far.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man watches her go. On one level, he feels he should go after her; but then again, he has a gut feeling that this is something she needs to start out for herself, and that trying to force the matter will do more harm than good.

Sometimes, you just gotta hope that someone else is looking out for people you meet.

He shrugs, then looks over to the bodega, where red-and-blue flashing lights flicker. He shrugs. At least THAT looks like it is handled.

He fires another webline, and then launches up and towards Midtown.

Back to patrol...
