The One With Heated Seats
Date of Scene: 15 December 2020
Location: Recreation Room
Synopsis: Megan, Noriko, Tabitha, and Jubilee all decide it's a great idea to test Tabitha's hotwiring skills so they can joy ride to some place to do something they hadn't figured out yet! But the car has other ideas.
Cast of Characters: Noriko Ashida, Megan Gwynn, Tabitha Smith, Jubilation Lee

Noriko Ashida has posed:
It's evening, after dinner.  The rec room has its usual swarm of people trying to pretend like the weekend isn't over even though all the students probably got lame essay assignments today.  Monday's already horrible, WHY NOT MAKE IT WORSE?

Normally the electric blue-haired teen is gone by now.  The speedster is getting away to the city...every night, except when she runs out of soles on her sneakers.  She's got her feet kicked up on one of the tables and she's tipping backward in her chair, snoozing while the video games blare.  Her metal gauntleted hands are resting over her stomach.

It's not long after the second time the girl has been kidnapped in the last two months, and now she has a new pair of gauntlets...that look worse than the last ones.

Megan Gwynn has posed:
So... Megan is here. Well, she is now. She wasn't here. Now she is here. The girl doesn't appear from nowhere, at least. She walks through the door like a normal person with a pair of wings on their back. They currently seem to be irridescently clear as she ambles in, yawning into her fist and blinking a few times. She runs a hand through her hair and looks around at the familiar faces before she decides on heading over to near where Noriko is currently snoozing.

Megan quietly claims herself a chair, dragging out her chair and claiming herself a seat, clasping her hands in front of herself and sitting quietly. So quietly. Fingers drumming. Tongue clucking. Feet tapping a bit. Yep. Quietly.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith has joined the rec room par-tay and she's playing ping pong with NonDescript Boy. She reaches over and CRANKS UP her Boom Box and some loudass heavy metal blasts from the music player. "YEAH ROCK IT! JAM!" the rock yells loudly. Very loudly. The silver box wobbles it's so loud, "WRRRAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!" lets out some high-pitched rocker over his guitar.

Meanwhile, NonDescript Boy has served the tiny little ball to her and it flitters past while she's distracted. She grabs it off the floor and fwaps it back at him with a laugh. He wanders off as she calls after him, "Hey! Come back! Dang!"

She puts a hand on her hip as she glances over toward Megan and Noriko. Another girl snatches her boom box and turns down the damn music, causing Tabitha to smirk and frown, "Aww come on...dang...". The girl puts the QUIET box down on the other side of the room near Megan, then leaves quickly. Tabitha stalks over toward the boom box while the girl runs off.

Noriko Ashida has posed:
Nori is none the wiser about Megan quietly invading the table so politely.  The music though?  Specifically the spike?

Noriko suddenly jolts awake, but it's not a normal jolt by human standards.  Her body seems to almost glitch to that oh-shit-I'm-falling-backwards look for a moment in slow motion, like a one of those live photo gimmicks.  Then suddenly she appears in the corner of the room, breathing a little heavier.  The chair then clatters to the floor.

Sooo, she looks around and then relaxes.  But the music is turned down again, and Noriko reaches up to rake her fingers through her hair.  She casts sidelong glances as she moseys back to the chair as if nothing ever happened.  "Hey," she says to Megan with a less than inviting look of a nearly consummate loner.  She has a purpose though.  She kicks the chair up from the floor with her foot and sits down.  "What just happened?"

Megan Gwynn has posed:
"I think you missed it. I was just sitting here quietly and out of nowhere we got attacked. Robot zombies from outer space. It was pretty wild." Megan teases with a little laugh, tilting her head back to cast her gaze in the direction of Tabitha and her boom box. "Or, it could be someone with a boom box." She says and lets her little smile broaden. "You kinda picked a bad spot for a nap, yaknow?" Visibly, she doesn't seem to be enjoying the music much. Nope. But her foot taps in rhythm anyways.

Jubilation Lee has posed:
Even though the room is filled with games and movies and all the things that kids just absolutely love, there are some who are just so insistent on making their own fun. Perhaps they're more qualified to do it. Or maybe they're just bored. Either way...

"Okay. Skate to the arm chair, backward handspring onto the table and then an aerial walkover for the dismount -- right into that bean bag. No, /that/ one. The red one!" a voice announces to a group of freshmen. It's none other than Jubilation Lee, holding court in a semi-circle of younger kids. "It's the verified, tried-and-true coolest way to enter the rec room. Pull it off and you're a legend!"

And with that decided, she squints her eyes and bends down to look at the three kids staring at her. "No one has... ever. pulled. it. off...." she lies, shrugging her shoulders. "Bear witness -- history is in the making!" With that, Jubes pushes off and bends her foot so that her heelie shoes engage their wheels and she begins skating through the hallway and rounds the corner into the rec room.

She's heading straight for an empty arm chair, as promised, and reaches a hand out to meet the back of it. She comes over the chair in a handspring -- no big deal! -- but then.... crashes right into the table, sending the piece of furniture onto the ground, along with herself.

From her position on the floor just in front of Nori and Megan, Jubilee leans back and lies on the ground. "...Sabotage!" she announces, staring up at the ceiling. She shoves an index finger high into the air. "This will not be forgotten!"

Tabitha Smith has posed:
With the music off, Tabitha looks annoyed and she leans over, grabbing her boom box off the floor. She straightens up and looks at Megan then Noriko, "Oh hey what up?" she says to them as she gives a little wave, "Yeah my bad, somebody turned off my music," she explains.

"Yeap, I got this antique boom box the other day to replace the one that sorta ...blew up," she explains to Nori and Megan. She holds the boom box by the handle at her side, "Yeah we should really go out---whoa!" she comments as Jubilee flies past into the room and crashlands on the table. She offers to help Jubilee up, "You're okay right?" she asks.

Noriko Ashida has posed:
"I choose Robot zombies and outer space," Nori says as if she were telling Megan her food order.  "The noise helps me sleep," she explains, but doesn't really explain to Megan.

Naturally, Nori has seen Jubes' pull this off before, even in the last year.  She yawns when she looks back, looking directly at the girl, a little smirk following.

"Oh that's my bad.  I totally screwed you up."  Nori's too tired to come up with a good reason, but she seems to be in relatively good spirits.  She looks down at Jubilee like someone peering down a well.  "I'd help you up, but you didn't stick your landing," she says with a broad grin for the girl.

When Tabitha comes over with her boom box.  Nori eyes it.  "Jubes.  You think we could get a rickshaw?" she proposes in response to going out.

Megan Gwynn has posed:
Megan opens her mouth to speak, but then There's a Jubilee performing acrobatics and putting on a show! She gives her hands a clap before a shooting a thumbs up at her. "Nice! You broke it on the first hit!" She seems to think that was the purpose of it, or something.

She shifts around in her seat, giving her wings a little flutter, scooting to the edge of the chair to give herself more room to move them. "Are you guys going out? I was going to go out but uh. Things." She chews on the corner of her lip, appearing thoughtful. What those 'things' are she doesn't divulge.

Jubilation Lee has posed:
"I'm okay, I'm okay!" Jubes says, grinning up at Tabitha. "...You see, /normally/ that table is just two inches...to the right. Sabotage, I say!" She reaches up to accept Tabitha's help and springs to her feet so she can give Nori, her dearest friend, a rueful stare. Sabotage!

Megan, however, seems to get it. "Those Swedes can't seem to make an end table that can take the full brunt of the American bod," she explains with a smirk.

"A rickshaw?" Jubilee repeats, giving Nori a sideways glance. "Like usual, you've read my mind. You sure you're not a telepath?" A fist is extended into the empty space between her and her roommate.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith hugs her old boom box to her chest as Nori makes strange comments, and she frowns confusedly at what she says, "Whatcha mean a rickshaw? Pffshaw, I can hotwire Hank's car. No prob," she says white-trashily, "Doesn't he have a car?" she wonders, fiddling with her hair.

She smirks, "Come on Megan, dang. It's only a Monday. You can still go out on a Monday," she reminds her, "I'll drive," she tells them all. Tabitha curiously fistbumps Jubilee and grins, like she's figured out a strange code.

Noriko Ashida has posed:
"Eww.  No."  Jubes certainly has noticed Nori's aversion to them by now, aside from Jean, but that's mostly because she's the Headmistress, and Nori really needs to suck up for all the things Jean knows she's done already..  Jubilee's rueful stare is rewarded with an up-nod of her chin and a thinly veiled grin.

Nori looks over to Megan, but still blindly performs the fist-bump, double-rev with Jubilee in perfect synchronicity, but it's a very narrow miss, and definitely within range of little lightning jumps.  Tabitha must be a lucky charm!  "There's /lots/ of cars," Noriko says with a wide grin, having no idea how close she came to only possibly shocking Tabitha.

Noriko just looks over to Megan, eyebrows rising.

Megan Gwynn has posed:
Megan would look confused if she had any idea there was other talk going on beneath the surface. Instead she remains oblivious. "Kinda weird for you guys to talk about rickshaws when you could just get a car." Megan flutters her wings, giving her hair a little toss as she looks between those present. "Or, like... just take the short route." The girl is known to be a teleporter after all.

"But uh. Yeah I've got a thing. A secret thing. Well. Not so secret. I promised someone I would binge up on TV show so we could talk about it tomorrow." Someone. Someone nameless, it seems. Megan blinks a couple of times, shrugging her shoulders gently. "I know I know, not as fun as partying." Megan, not partying? The world must be ending.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith grabs at Megan and then motions everyone toward the garage, "Partying?! Cool! I'm totally out, you're going right Nori---?" she wonders. She checks her back pocket for something, "Okay check it out, I can hotwire Hank's car in like five minutes or less. You guys time me," she offers.

Noriko Ashida has posed:
"Why get a car when we can use the Hyperloop?  Because the cars are sick in the garage," Nori says with a knowing nod.  It's one of her places she goes to avoid everyone...people in general, when she's not flitting about in her own inaccessible world of velocity.

Noriko squints at Megan and her evasiveness.  Then she gives Jubes' a sidelong look.  "What's the TV show?  Maybe we can give you crib notes.  But I'm not going in Hank's car if I have to sit in one."  Noriko zips ahead with near instantaneous acceleration.

Jubilation Lee has posed:
Nori's 'ew' brings a wide smile from Jubilee. Fine, fine, not a telepath. Forget she said it! Jubes blinks a bit, grinning as Tabitha yoinks the secret handshake and comes out of it safely. Megan's ideas -- the short route, specifically -- stokes Jubilee's attention but...then...

"Woah, woah woah," she calls out, extending both hands out in the air as she does. "...You're going to stay in to watch TV so that you can /talk about it/ with... /someone/..." Jubilee repeats, raising her eyebrows. She looks from Megan and then over to Tabitha and Nori to see if they're getting this, too.

"Highly sus, girl..." Jubilee adds, shaking her head slowly before returning Nori's look. "Don't you know that you are saying 'no' to the best possible night anyone has ever had -- ever!" Jubes exclaims as she props her foot up on the edge of the coffee table, her elbow on her thigh, and then her first under her chin. Her head sloooowly turns towards Tabitha. "I'll start the clock..."

Megan Gwynn has posed:
Megan squints back at the group, her wings shifting a bit more pinkish in color as she rubs her palms together. "Oh but then I'd be lying to them! But..." She's torn, of course. Literally. Grabbed. "But I guess I could..." She lets it go easily enough. Easily convinced Megan is easily convinced. "But I'd kind of like to try the rickshaw anyways. Maybe she could pull the car? Could you pull a car?" She asks Noriko curiously. "I wonder if I could just like. Transport a car."

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith smirks in a disappointed way, "You can't hotwire a hyperwoop, come on," she complains, "That's no fun," she adds and then tries to shake Megan's shoulder thoughtfully. "Yeah? Yeah! Come on!" he lets out energetically and snickers with a smile. She then listens to what Megan says and comments, "Oh come on, you guys. You're not thinkin fun enough. You can't hotwire a rickshaw either! Transport? Oh wow haha, I forgot about that."

Noriko Ashida has posed:
"I haven't tried.  I'd rather see if Tabitha can beat five minutes," Noriko kind of sidesteps the issues and retains her pride in the process, naturally.  Her speed is her best power, the one she has the most control over effortlessly, but Nori's never trusted it /that/ much.

"We can do a rickshaw another day," Noriko winks to Megan.

In the garage, it is...well, absurdly opulent, and so are the cars.  Nori is already laying on the hood of one checking her cell phone as fast as possible before she saps all the power out of it.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith smirks as Noriko crosses in front of her and flops on top of one of the cars, "It's not fair if you kill it," she reminds her. She whips out her own little cell phone from her back pocket, "Yeap, did you know that cars are mostly electronics these days? It's true. Yeah, all you need is an app," she suggests. Probably not one off the apple store, for sure. "Course, the new ones. Then you totally need a mechanic," she raises her cell phone and raises it over Nori like it's a scanner.

Jubilation Lee has posed:
"Oh, next time we're totally doing the rickshaw, don't you worry!" Jubilee declares, grinning at both Nori and Megan. She lingers near the doorway and pokes her head out. "I'll keep look-out, Tabs," she adds. Jubilee's eyes widen, as if doing so would grant her super vision or something like that. "Do your thing!"

"Pick one with heated seats!" she adds, grinning from ear to ear.

Megan Gwynn has posed:
"What does she win if she beats five minutes?" Megan asks curiously, clasping her hands behind her back lightly and swaying from foot to foot as she looks between the other girls. "Oh! Or does she lose something if she doesn't make it? You should make a fun bet out of it! If you haven't already." Megan chimes in helpfully with a smile, flashing her pearly whites.

Noriko Ashida has posed:
Which means either Tabitha runs Android, or she jailbroke her phone.  Clever clever.  "I can't even keep a phone long enough to get a phone that has apps to get."

When Tabs raises her phone above Nori, the latter shoots her a squinty look.  "Are you taking pictures of me 1984?"  She rolls off the hood to the side.  "My brain isn't that interesting either."  Noriko's eyes shoot over to Megan.  "Betting.  Excellent.  We should do this with more students later."  Noriko gets a secretive smile.  "Profit."

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith walks over to one of the fancy Volkswagens, "A bet?" she wonders as she stops tapping on her phone, then eyes Jubilee and Nori and Megan, "Hey I'm teaching you guys stuff. It's cool but I'll buy you something if I can't do it in five minutes," she explains, "Course I gave my trick away already, you sure you wanna bet against mwah?" she asks overdramatically, motioning to herself.

Jubilation Lee has posed:
Jubilee grips the frame of the door, periodically looking over her shoulder at the progress inside the garage. "If I see a teacher, I'll make some kind of noise," she calls over. "Maybe a seagull -- you know, something properly annoying." Nori's scheme earns a grin. "You're suggesting that we start up an underground betting ring?" Jubes recites. "...Nori... That's not like you /at all/...." She grins and sloooowly arcs her palm into the air.

Megan Gwynn has posed:
Megan yawns softly into her hand as she focuses on the action, clearly interested in the goings on. Awww yiss. Things are about to get fun! She opens her mouth to speak when... her ringtone goes off. Now of all times! She reaches for her phone and opens it. Her expression is almost comical. It goes from a curious smile to a confused smile to an oh-my-god-I-forgot-something-important smile. "Oh. OH! OH!!!!" She exclaims, gripping her phone tight. "I TOTALLY FORGOT! Gotta go!" She blurts out at the others and then she's dashing for the exit. Whatever it is, it's -important-. Super. Super. High school life drama important. But then she's gone.

Noriko Ashida has posed:
Noriko suddenly appears over Tabitha's shoulder, because yeah, she's definitely curious, for some odd reason...even if she is her own transportation.  "No, absolutely not.  I want to grift all the freshmen.  Lost my job, sooo, I need to pay for my sneakers somehow till I get my new kicks."  Neeeew kicks, that aren't sneakers?  Hopefully not ugly ones, but Nori looks down at her hideous bulky gauntlets and sighs.  Hank's not the best at fashion.

On Halloween, Noriko was selling pumpkin bongs for cash, favors, and IOUs...right in front of the faculty, so, "I bet we could get some teachers or freeloaders," as she calls the residents, "in on some other bets too."

Noriko then looks over to see Megan split.  "She totally just went to go watch that show or make out with whoever she won't tell us about, didn't she."

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith has the door open and has plopped into the seat, "It's totally easy," she tells the two of them, "What's that? A betting ring? Now you're talking. You guys aren't from my neighborhood are ya?" she wonders amusedly. She tries to glance past Jubilee and Nori to see where Megan is going but can't see but she does hear her wander off.

"Okay Nori, check it out," she advises as she taptaptaps on her illegal app, "This is the Volkswagen? Yep, press connect---it's in," she chuckles, "Oh right, what do you want to do? Yep, scroll down to start engine. Boom!" she laughs. The car starts.

Jubilation Lee has posed:
"I am sure that we are not..." Jubilee replies, grinning a bit as she does. Nori is given a look that might mean something to the pair of them but would otherwise be an enigma. Bored of being the lookout, Jubes moves away from the doorway to watch the hotwiring for herself.

"No one's going to come," she explains, bringing both of her index fingers up to her temples. "I'm psychic -- I know." She's not and she doesn't.

Noriko Ashida has posed:
"I don't remember seeing you around my trash fire."  Noriko glances to Jubilee, her expression souring slightly before she does so, but it fades quickly.  The girl has the faintest trace of a Japanese accent, but she's gotten to talking a bit fast now.  Still understandable though.

"That's way too easy," Noriko grumps.  "I wish I could do that...though I'm not sure what I'd do with a car."  She reaches up to rub the back of her neck, squinting at the small hairs that get caught from the habit.  Then she streeeetches, trying to get her hand naturally over Jubilee's head when she joins them to see how amenable it is to static at the moment.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith raises her phone with a grin, "Jubes, check it out!" she lets out and taps a couple little buttons and the windshield wipers start going, "Oops, actually..." she begins, tapping something, "Dang it that's not right," she complains.

"Easy? You call that easy?" she wonders, then taps again. The car alarm then sounds loudly.

VREEE OOOUUP VREEE OUUUUP

"Dammit! Shit!" Tabitha lets out. "Damn, shut up!" She stops herself from kicking the car and shuts the app down after a few moments. The car putters and grows quiet. Tabitha sighs. "Uhh..."

Jubilation Lee has posed:
Jubilee slides forward on her heelie shoes, giving Nori a subtle smile, one of understanding, as she zips past on her way towards Tabitha. "Okay, let's see it!" she says before rolling to a halt near the car, the girl, and the phone. When the wipers start moving, Jubilee folds her arms across her chest and grins. "Cool..." she says, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

But then... when the car starts alarming, Jubilee's eyes snap to the doorway and then back to the car. "Shut that thing up!" she calls out. Before waiting for a reply or even a response, Jubilee reaches her hands towards the car -- a total reaction done without thought.

Just a half second after Tabitha gets the alarm to putter out, Jubilee's hands erupt in a triumphant show of lights, pops, and fireworks -- anything she might do to disrupt the car! The alarm starts back up, much to Jubilee's horror!

    VREEEE OOOP VREEE OOOOP

"Cheese it!" she shouts before running towards the door!

Noriko Ashida has posed:
"Well do you really want to see me use the app?"  Noriko rolls her eyes and then smirks.  "The car is possessed.  Clearly not your fault."

Noriko blinks at the light show alarm.  She checks her gauge on one of her gauntlets and nods.  "Shit.  Tab.  Jump on my back.  Let's split!"  She turns around, holding her arms out.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith hops out of the car and taps her phone repeatedly, "It's def not working," she grumbles and then eyes Jubilee as she runs off like a scared hyena. "Go go!" she laughs. She hops onto Noriko and makes like a chicken rider.

Jubilation Lee has posed:
"Shit shit shit shit shit," Jubilee drones in sync with her steps. As Nori gets ready to zip out of there, with Tabs on her back, Jubilee reaches a hand out in preparation -- she even tilts her shoes back so the wheels on her heelies engage. Jubilee doesn't even bother to ask about the charge levels. She trusted Nori perhaps more than anyone else in her life.

Noriko Ashida has posed:
Resident getaway driver, Noriko makes sure Tabitha is situated.  "Hold on tight.  Tuck your head down and flex your neck," she says as fast as a chipmunk, but the pitch isn't any higher.  Then she grabs Jubes on the way.  They've definitely done some synchronized something in their day, because it's as smooth as an olympic relay race.

Noriko grabs Jubilee's wrist for a stronger hold and then takes off at a velocity that will not destroy her passengers.  Then they're magically spirited away, wind that isn't really wind, whipping in their faces as they escape into the night...around the corner to the front door.  "That'll be 3.50."
