Another You: Let's Not Make Gartorade, Ok
Date of Scene: 09 January 2021
Location: Labs - Titan's Tower
Synopsis: Terry comes to Nadia for help, to deal with a certain Doppelganger.
Cast of Characters: Terry O'Neil, Nadia Pym-van Dyne

Terry O'Neil has posed:
Terry O'Neil stands outside of Nadia's laboratory, which he has dubbed The Fortress of Mad Science. After spending a day reflecting at the Embassy, and a very enlightening conversation with Diana, he is animated by a new determination. A purpose whereas he had been drifting aimlessly before in the wake of grief- to save lives.

Even one that some in the team didn't want to save.

"Nadia, it's me. Terry. Can I come in?" he asks into the T-Comm, using the isolated frequency reserved for the 'cleared' members. "There's something I need, and you're my only hope, Obi-Wan."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
The lab has been locked down, Nadia has seen to that and with Donna's support she didn't even have to hack any of the systems to do it. Sometimes the sounds of heavy work can be heard from within, sometimes snoring, sometimes an eerie silence like she's not even in there anymore. But so far inevitably the noises return if one were to camp outside long enough.

Terry though is greeted by the eerie silence. It drags on for a few moments and then a few more moments and one might begin to wonder of her fate. Maybe Ant-Girl somehow managed to breach Tower security and took her out. Maybe she actually left for a bit. Maybe she's working on something too small to hear. But shortly thereafter Nadia's voice does come across the secure channel. "Obi-what?" Yes, it's true, Nadia does not know the glory of Star Wars. "Only Hope in the Tower at least." She cracks a passing joke about her name. "If you're really Terry, which was your favorite of the seven worlds and why?" She asks without giving context, "Also if you're a doppleganger that stole Terry's T-Comm, I already have a target lock." Whatever that means, probably nothing good.

Terry O'Neil has posed:
Terry frowns, "The only of the worlds I actually liked was the world of perpetual war, because Donna finally went bonkers and kicked butt, and I got to tatoo the foreheads of an entire planet with a cat's chocolate starfish." He smirks, "And if that hasn't scarred your mind enough, there's more of that where that came from."

The redhead pauses. "Also we need to get you to see more movies. Star Wars is, like , a classic." He pauses. "Some of them."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
There is a pause, and then the doors open revealing Nadia in her Waspette suit. She glances left and right before reaching out to yank Terry quickly through the security doors before closing them again. It may come as a surprise, she is far stronger than her size would have one believe.

"Wait starfish come in chocolate now? This planet sounds delicious Terry! Okay, so what is it you need?" She asks casually. In the background, the system that Terry previously witnessed her constructing when she was tiny seems fully functional now, detect dimensional distortions around the world as data scrolls across various screens.

Terry O'Neil has posed:
"Nadia. Honey... um. Chocolate starfish is... kind of slang for... a cat's butt." He rubs his forehead, "I'm gonna have to write you a dictionary for these things, just in case..." he looks up at what she has been building, and for a second he forgets what he came to ask for.

"Oh wow... that looks... techy. Fantastic. How does it work, again?" And then he realizes what he asked, and adds a clarification, "Explain it to me as if you were explaining it to a very stupid child who grew up in a world of magic insted of science?"

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
"Oh this?" Nadia turns towards the advanced equipment that takes up a sizable portion of one of the lab rooms, "I reconstructed the system my father and I created for SHIELD to detect dimensional breaches. Some of it is based on the technology that my father used to create his own breach when he got captured by his alternate dimensional self, I guess we're calling them dopplegangers now, but from a different Earth where he had fused with his advanced AI robotic creation Ultron into a single powerful cyborg being, also evil. I rescued him, but anyway so that technology was basically meant to breach the Space Wall that seperates the macroverse and the microverse but instead applying those principles to seperate macroverses through manipulation of Pym Fields created in a similar manner to electrons forming electro-magnetic fields. So within that phenomenon the actual tearing of the rift within the dimensional barrier was the result of a forced shift in polarity. This phenomenon was also observed in the wormhole data we gathered in space while looking for you guys for breaches of Space/Time as well, the polarity shift literally forcing the atoms that make up the fabric of reality apart. That polarity shift causes electromagnetic radiation in the form of light. That's why all portals seem to glow by the way. Now the simplest form of Quantum entanglement is with photons, whatever happens to one photon affects the other. The photons generated through this effect though are special, they're not paired within this dimension, but paired with a photon in the parallel Earth that the portal is linking to. So we are essentially scanning for unusual polarity shifts in the electromagnetic field via Pym Fields to find the uniquely entangled photons that result and pinpoint these breaches."

She turns back to Terry, "Simple, right?"

Terry O'Neil has posed:
Terry blinks, and blinks several times. He looks at the machine, and then looks at Nadia. Back to the machine. Back to Nadia.

He opens his mouth, "I just punch reality and a hole appears."

Terry O'Neil's Guide To Quantum Mechanics, Abridged.

"Wait... I just realized that maybe we should test this with me Rabbit Holing around. Just in case for some reason /I/ end up setting it off and all of you try to kill me thinking I am a Doppelganger."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia walks over to one of the device's consoles and begins sliding windows around on the translucent touchscreen, "Of course you do, that just signifies an ability to actually touch the fabric of space/time, which is really cool by the way, the possible applications of that are huge, and trigger one of these polarity shifts. Oooh what if I shrank down to atomic size and stayed on your hand while you did it! I could observe the quantum interactions with the fabric of local space/time first hand!" She has become lost in a tangent ...again.

"Wait, right," She forcibly pulls herself back to the topic at hand, all that mindfulness practice with her therapist paying off at least a little. "That could be a problem. If people detect you with this system that means SHIELD who have the original can detect you with this system which means if it does pick up your rabbit holes the next time you do it you could have a SHIELD containment team after you and wind up in The Raft. We should probably test it." Nevermind that 'testing' it could produce the same result.

Terry O'Neil has posed:
"The RAFT? Oy..." Terry sighs and turns his rainbow bracelet over, exposing the mirror. "We should beter test this out right now." The redhead soon becomes the Cheshire Cat, and nods at Nadia, "I'll tell you what I came here for first, but... let's do this. Because if we don't, I might suddenly be in a /lot/ of trouble..."

He focuses and reates a Rabbit Hole, leading just a few feet apart. "Please don't ping please don't ping please don't..."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Flashing red lights and loud alarms going off is probably a bad sign.

"Uh oh." Nadia stares at the screen, almost like she is oblivious to the pandemonium of the lab security system going crazy. "Well the good news is patching the system into the lab security system, in case a breach happened in here, worked!"

Her eyes then get a little wider for a moment, and her fingers begin quickly dancing across the interface overriding the security breach before any of the automated weapons systems come online.

"That was close." Though she doesn't elaborate as to exactly what. She also pulls out her phone and begins texting friends at SHIELD. "So the bad news is that it one hundred percent detects your rabbit holes Terry. Quantum physics are neat."

Terry O'Neil has posed:
"And that means," Vorpal says slowly, "That if I rabbit Hole /anywhere/ now that the system goes online... I'm basically goning to have Captain Marvel dropping on me to take me to 'the raft', right?" the Cheshire looks absolutely heartbroken . "This... is kinda bad. That kind of renders me completely useless... the only reason I'm an asset in most teams is because of the Rabbit Hole."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia shakes her head holding up one hand with index finger extended, "Not necessarily! I mean for one thing Carol is a very busy woman. But also the device in the Triskelion is networked with SHIELD's sattelites, they can zoom in on a detected breach and watch what comes out. By all accounts you don't have a doppleganger, so we can probably ask them to leave you alone. Or maybe someone shows up just to be extra sure and you have to tell them about cats pooping chocolate starfish or something."

She thinks about it a bit more rubbing her chin. "But, you might want to limit your rabbit holes for awhile. On the bright side, I can keep track of them from our system, too!" Is that really a bright side?

Terry O'Neil has posed:
Vorpal nods, looking at the scanner. "Why... don't we get that info over to SHIELD? Maybe get me a comm so i can tell SHIELD it was me? That would help. That would really help. Especially since I plan to confront Gar's Doppelganger and i am going to /need/..."

He pauses, and turns to Nadia. "Let's work on that... but i also need something. Nadia... I need something to keep Gar's Doppelganger from changing shape. I need something that could disrupt his focus... he needs focus to maintain his shape." He leans in.

"Do you think there's anything you could come up with I could... shoot him with, or something. Even if it just affects him for a few minutes."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia puts her phone away after sending off some encrypted messages. At Terry's request, her eyes light up. "You want me to destabilize his molecular structure so he becomes a puddle of protoplasm. That's probably possible, maybe a kind of sub-atomic EMP wave that could disrupt the bonds holding his molecules together in their current configuration." There is far too much excitement in the way she is describing essentially melting someone into a puddle of goo.

Terry O'Neil has posed:
Vorpal stares. "N-not what I meant. I mean, something that interferes with his concentration so that he can't shape-shift into any animal shapes."

"Gar is a threat when he changes into his animal shapes. He's still a competent fighter outside of his animal shapes... but I think I have a better chance. And he might be discouraged from fighting if he can't shift, you know what I mean?" the cat says. "So... working it from that angle...."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia's expression falls a bit, no doubt the gears turning in her head had already halfway prototyped a beam to melt dopplegangers into protoplasm, "Oh, if you just want something to break his concentration, that's easier, I guess." But clearly not as interesting of a scientific challenge, judging by her expression. "I mean, there's always a sonic disruption grenade, high frequency attack to overload his eardrums. Though you wouldn't want to be in the radius of the effect either, may result in unconciousness and bleeding from the ears. Or oooh if I adjusted an EMP Grenade, perhaps it could cause a small disruption in the electrical impulses that travel through the brain's neural pathways and central nervous system! Or maybe a heat ray like the US Military's experimental crowd control device, Active Denial System that would heat up his skin to distractingly uncomfortable temperatures!"

Terry O'Neil has posed:
Vorpal blinks a few more times, and then he says very carefully. "Okay... let's think of something that would make him still be able to hear me and talk to me without... writhing around in agony or losing control of his bodily functions. I know it's a little more difficult, but the challenge should be attractive."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Normally Nadia might have any number of more peaceful suggestions, though the 'possibly killed Gar' aspect of things seems to be bringing out her more unpleasant and painful ideas, "Alright, there is a basic contradiction here that I am having difficulty with, partly because I do not understand exactly how his power works and what is sufficient to prevent its use, but you want him distracted to the point he cannot focus and yet able to carry on a conversation with you? This seems like a contradiction. There are drugs and chemical agents that could certainly induce paralysis from the neck down. But then could he just change his muscles so they're not paralyzed, is it mental? And if it is, how do you disrupt his mental state to the point he cannot use his powers while leaving him able to talk? Perhaps it would be more efficient to neutralize the power itself at a cellular level?"

Terry O'Neil has posed:
"If it's something that's fast-acting enough that he doesn't really have time to shift. But..." Terry hmms, "He seemed to have a problem changing quickly when he was still carrying a lot of the trauma from the Doomsday team. He would freeze instead of shifting." He sighs, "I came to you too late. I should have had this idea earlier... if I hadn't vanished up my own..."

He shakes his head and smiles, "It's okay. Maybe I can invite him over for a drink and get him too drunk to shift." It's a joke, of course...

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia tilts her head to one side rubbing her chin in thought like Terry may have just given her another idea. Trauma, emotion, how we experience emotion is regulated by the body's endochrine system and the hormones it releases. The neural control center for all of that is the hypothalamus. If we could stimulate the hypothalamus in the right way, it might be possible to flood his system with a particular emotion such as the trauma of the Doomsday encounter, or depression, of fear."

"It would be a pretty terrible thing to do to someone." Says the the girl who was just talking about melting people, "And overuse might still render them catatonic, though done right it could actually create the desired effect, though obviously with added emotional instability." She pauses, "How much time would I have to work on this?"

Terry O'Neil has posed:
Terry looks at his phone. "Let's see... it's one p.m. on Friday..." he says this for her benefit, in case she has lost track of the time. "I'm thinking of starting the hunt tomorrow at the same time. That should also give enough time to get me a comm or something so I don't get tackle-slammed every time I rabbit Hole. Just, you know. In case."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia continues to tap her chin thinking as she nods her head several times while Terry lays out his timeline. "Okay, so a little over three weeks to do research and come up with a device, that's plenty of time. Getting a comm by tomorrow though is probably more difficult, would be easier to just alert them before. I can send them a message you're planning something around that time." She nods several times to herself at this like it is already decided

"The optic nerves meet in the optic chiasm at the base of the hypothalamus, perhaps a diffuse low intensity laser aimed through the eye as a vehicle." She's pacing back and forth now as preliminary ideas are falling into place.

Terry O'Neil has posed:
"Three... weeks?" Vorpal blinks, "For tomorro- Nadia, this is important, but I don't need you to break spacetime to get it."

He knows Nadia by now. Nothing is too far for her. "If you can't get a prototype by tomorrow, it's okay"

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
"It's not breaking anything!" Nadia grins back at Terry, "I'm just going to use my personal lab instead of these labs, though I guess I will technically still be inside of these labs. It exists at microscopic scale, so time passes differently there. One hour at this scale is about a day within that part of the quantum realm. So twenty four hours on Earth is a little over three weeks if I do my work there. That's actually how I revolutionized space engines for the T-Jet in only two weeks."

Terry O'Neil has posed:
Vorpal blinks, "OH... oh. Okay then..." Suddenly it occurs to him that this could be... incredibly advantageous. For a moment he thinks about the possibility of taking three weeks to recover emotionally, get rest, refresh himself...

But he'd be in Nadia's way. And it might be better to strike while the iron was hot. He didn't want to lose his determination.

"So I'll leave you to it and see you in... three weeks." He smiles. "Donna wants me to do something. We're going to try to see if Raven is a doppelganger. If she's the real deal, she'll be added to our secret cabal."

He rubs his eyes, "I should... try to take a nap. Thank you for helping me, Nadia. It really means a lot." He smiles, and heads for the door. Then he stops. "And you get plenty of rest, okay? No working yourself to exhaustion."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
"I don't know exactly what you're planning to do, but given you seem to talk rather than melt, well I can only imagine it is going to be really hard. But I'm sure you can do it. I'll make what you asked for, and you can do your thing." Nadia steps forward and gives Vorpal a hug, before whispering into his ear, "But if he hurts you also, I /will/ melt him."

She then beams him a brilliant smile and waves, "Get your rest, I'll see you in a few hours." And then walks over to the panel to release the security seals on the door and let him out.
