Pinball Madness
Date of Scene: 12 March 2020
Location: Morningside Heights Arcade
Synopsis: Andrea's background remained a sad mystery, but Carson would explain his!
Cast of Characters: Andrea Marguiles, Carson Deschain

Andrea Marguiles has posed:
Andrea Marguiles is in this arcade in upper Manhattan, in a college neighborhood this late afternoon. The girl is in a black, very tight bodysuit, but on top of it are a denim skirt, a bright, pink tank top, and simple flip fops. Bent over a pinball machine, her pigtails bounce as she works carefully at the machine, biting her lip and trying to play.

Carson Deschain has posed:
Pinball, ironically, is a game of choice for the man slipped in with a painters cap and sunglasses on to hide his face. He's not world wide famous, if even important. But he's local. There might be people who recognize... possible. Maybe not. But the arcade, Jazzman's was a good spot. Dark. Decent slice. Expensive cups for free refills.

It's at the particular machine that Andrea is at that he pauses, checking the title. Castle Chaos? Pin-Coaster? That annoying Superman one with all of the magnetic mini-games that throw off EVERYTHING!? Carson must know.

Andrea Marguiles has posed:
Andrea Marguiles ends up with the ball back at the plunger. Biting her lip tightly, she pulls gently, then releases. The ball shots, and then the machine announces "That's the spirit, thing. Lend a hand!" Hearings omeone approach, she murmurs "Im on the third ball if you want a turn..." Then as the game continues her hips start to shake as she gets into it excessively.

Carson Deschain has posed:
Addams Family. One of the greatest pinball games ever. If anyone disagrees he'll fight them. Without a word a token is down the slot and Carson leans his weight onto an unoccupied game right next to hers, "Looks like y'got three more eh?" grinning and watching her progress. The urge to back-seat game is real. But he knows that irritation of being on the receiving end.

A lot of it is geometry... but physics plays in heavily, "Tell me t'shuddup if you need... You a big pinballer, miss?" watching the silvered sphere go.

Andrea Marguiles has posed:
Andrea Marguiles keeps on going. "Seance!" it calls out. "I hate this one," she whines softly. Face tensing up, she starts slapping at the buttons, hips rocking back and forth, as well as her head, as she does her best. Then it drops, and she sighs. "Awww..."

Carson Deschain has posed:
"I... well I could show some secrets to playin' this one - if you don't mind a back-seat player sayin' when to hit the flippers?" Carson leans enough to be looking down over the board, to the side of the machine - giving Andrea her space still, sipping from his cup as well. "Names Carson by the way, so I'm not bein' as creepy as I have since I walked up." snickering.

Andrea Marguiles has posed:
Andrea Marguiles giggles and steps back, flicking one of her pigtails and shrugging to the man. "No go ahead it's your turn. If you're good at it, I'll watch... and I'm Andrea, hi." She will then takes a spot beside. "Not creepy to watch me play though..."

Carson Deschain has posed:
As she makes room, Carson slips into place watching the scores zero out and for a moment he is... well he's just staring, tongue poking out of the corner of his mouth before he draws back the plunger to a precise point, releasing without pause and then he's moving. "HE'S AT THE DOOOOOR!" already kicking off as his movements are methodic, the ball being hurtled into cups, up ramps, Raul Julia just wont shut up!

"See... it's based on angles, the approximate weight... how many newtons force are expended by the flippers and how it's readjusted per the angle based on a solid or grazing hit..." thwack thwack thwack... 'Playmate! Come out and play with me!'

Andrea Marguiles has posed:
Andrea Marguiles now isn't getting stared at, but rather is doing the watching. She stands at an angle that lets her see verything, as close to the 'player' angle as she can. Hands behind her back, leaning forward slightly, but not blocking him at at all. It's a tough balance. "Really interesting...."

Carson Deschain has posed:
"I mean it's... well I guess it's nerd stuff, mostly." Clicking the flippers and watching the ball move. He doesn't move though... The machine thumping and blasting doesn't seem to move him like it would others. "But it's interesting nerd stuff. Right?" grinning a little but not looking away, mental math AWAAAAAY!

Andrea Marguiles has posed:
Andrea Marguiles snickers. "Soundsl ike you were talking about, you know, math. Doing math and science when you play. That's cool. I could never do that." She snickers. "At least. I don't have enough interest in science to do that."

Carson Deschain has posed:
"Well I'm a physicist... sort of. Only a bachelors, deciding if I want to go for my masters or more..." the score keeps rising and he keeps flicking the ball at angles to remain at play. "What do you do, Andrea? School still? College?" brow knit in concentration.

"Again, not to be creepy. Last I'll say that. But you know. Conversation." a half chuckle running from him.

Andrea Marguiles has posed:
Andrea Marguiles leans over. "You know, there'sa nother word for it that's not creepy." she giggles, shaking her head. "Finishing high school this year. But I'm 18 so I can come into the city when I want."

Carson Deschain has posed:
"I am unaware of what the word might be. I mean I just walked up, started chatting. Nowadays other folks might see it the way I called it, or worse if I dance around it." a cheerful chuckle as he continues to plug away and rack up the score... "But for the sake of extreme curiosity, what'd you think it should be called?" the smile remaining, flashing her a look in the reflective back board of the machine.

Andrea Marguiles has posed:
Andrea Marguiles snickers. "It's called flirting." she leans over to say softly, before looking back to the game. "You're like, really good at aiming for the right spots and making the shots. That's really impressive."

Carson Deschain has posed:
A laugh and shake of his head, "Well I suppose it could be called that." no slapping of the sides, just precise presses to set the flippers moving. "I mean... it's all math. Geometry, which is like... half of what I went to school for. You'd be surprised how much geometry effects physics you know?" click click 'HE'S AT THE DOOOOOOOR!' who knows how many time he's shouted that... or the little orange LED display has put on the growling bear rug?

"And do try to aim for the right spots, of course." Was -that- flirting??

Andrea Marguiles has posed:
Andrea Marguiles gladly keeps on watching the game. Nodding athis explanations, eyes trying to follow the ball as he does his tricks. "That's great. No wonder youre way etter at it than I Am." she giggles. "And yeah, I know WHERE to aim. I just haven't done it enough to like, be good at it, you know?"

Carson Deschain has posed:
Still working the flippers, keeping the ball running, he half looks to the young woman and bows his head. "Well. So what're you lookin' to study, if you know yet?" The patterns down now to a point that he's able to focus away, "And I've been playing pinball a lot... 'cause of the physics eh?" turning his head enough to wink at the younger woman.

Andrea Marguiles has posed:
Andrea Marguiles shakes her head. "Oh I don't know. You're the third person to ask this week what I'm going to do after school." She smiles to the wink but then pauses and sighs quietly. "It's compliated, but long story short, it's hard for me to process the idea that I'll be leaving the place I've been for many years. And wow you dont' even have to look."

Carson Deschain has posed:
"I'm just showing off." chuckling, "If you're impressed I'll have to ask if you want to get something to eat - lady's choice course." turning back partially to check his timing, counting seconds with slight nods of his head now.

"And sorry about that, I should figure you probably get that a lot with you saying you're finishing school."

Andrea Marguiles has posed:
Andrea Marguiles giggles. "Tell you what, I could get some pizza before I take the train back home, in Westchester. But I want to see what score you get first. And yeah, I'm getting it a lot because I'm a senior. But I'm just a weird special case and it's complicated, you know?"

Carson Deschain has posed:
"Sorta, I mean... there's the whole sort of 'er'body special' argument. I mean." he shrugs and continues to work, "I'll try to screw up so we're not here till close then too." laughing and tapping away, "But what's making it complicated? If I can ask?" Carson looks to her again in the reflection, brow raised.

Andrea Marguiles has posed:
Andrea Marguiles snickers. "It's a downer. I'll spare you. Having some good pizza is much more pleasant than that. But yeah, Ihave to decide what to do with my life, which is hard to decide! How did you decide to go to college and study science, Carson?"

Carson Deschain has posed:
That is not a question he gets often apparently and it actually makes him miss a flick that sends the first ball tumbling down to pinball-ey death. He stands, not drawing the plunger yet and fully turns towards the young woman.

"I'm not sure I can accurately explain that..." no dodge, no coy guile. Legitimate wonder if he even can. Carson stands, brow knit, considering now.

Andrea Marguiles has posed:
Andrea Marguiles winks. "Then let's talk about it on the way to a pizza place? There's one just down the street. Good a thing to talk about as any, if you don't mind anyway?" Looking to the game. "Leave the other two balls to the next person! Come on."

Carson Deschain has posed:
Carson Deschain nods and shakes his cup to find it empty, tossing it to a garbage can - though it flies a little harder than one might expect, with more force than the light flick he'd given it.

"I suppose I can try, at least... I..." he looks to her and motions for her to lead on so that he can fall in step.
