A Case of Mistaken Ant-dentity
Date of Scene: 29 January 2021
Location: Hank Pym's Mobile Laboratory
Synopsis: Nadia meets Shannon, who is dressed as Ant-Girl, in her father's lab. It goes about as well as could be expected under the circumstances.
Cast of Characters: Nadia Pym-van Dyne, Shannon Davis

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
To say Nadia is a busy girl would be at vast understatement. At sixteen she is an active member of the Titans, a consultant for SHIELD, and leading her own Super Science team GIRL. Combined with the fact she's not very prone to sitting still ...ever, makes her a very difficult person to catch.

However, there are a number of places she visits with some regularity: Titans' Tower, GIRL HQ on the Pym Technologies campus, Janet van Dyne's penthouse, and her father's own laboratory. Today, as it happens, she can be found arriving at the latter.

"Hello? Dad? Are you in here? I mean I know you didn't answer but that doesn't mean you're not here... No? Okay... well if you are here I just need a plasma containment device, don't mind me!" She calls out as she walks through the lab towards one of the storage areas. One never knows when legendary genius Henry "Hank" Pym aka Dad, might just be lost in some project.

She is dressed like a teenager, a fashionable one, probably Janet's influence, in a slightly punkish, mildly gothic outfit. Makeup in dark reds with black accents, A black t-shirt with the words 'Just a Girl Who Loves Hornets' in flowing bright pink script with a pink hornet image below it, a black and red plaid pleated short skirt, big stompy leather boots that go almost to her knees and some chain bracelets on her arms.

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis could be heard once she went a little bit deeper. The girl is making extreme effort sounds and deep heaving, as if she was trying to move a couch or something like that. Following the sounds is easy, just a bit further, against a particularly solid wall is the figure of Shannon, dressed in full Ant-girl costume minus her gloves.

The first thing to note is the fixated, furious, almost fanatical look she has going in her eyes, the second is the fact she has both her hands planted against the wall. The third is the fact the muscles, veins and ligaments in her arms are trembling, twitching and moving around under enormous stress. Almost like she's trying to push the wall, but in reality she was pouring enormous amounts of momentum directly into it.

Upon hear the call she jerks up in surprise and lets go, which doesn't have much effect except from a gust of wind flowing through the room quite strongly and a loud THUNK sound echoing. She turns and finds Nadia. She thinks for a few moments on what had been said. "OH! HEY!" She says cheerfully, giving her a snarky grin. "Heard so much about ya. I'm Shannon."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
What is Dad doing? Nadia thinks to herself when she hears the noises. Unusual noises are not that unusual in this lab after all. Coming around the corner though and laying eyes on 'Ant-Girl' Nadia freezes for just a split second, eyes going wide and then seems to just vanish from sight.

Of course she doesn't actually vanish, she just gets really small after activating her necklace that stores a spare Waspette costume, acrobatically changing in mid-air, before her wings extend and she zips off.

Only to reappear behind Shannon attempting to immobilize her using a chokehold with the skill of a professional assassin. It is noteworthy that compared to her father, Nadia only takes a microsecond to shift sizes, appearing to almost vanish and reappear at will like a teleporter of some sort.

"You're going to regret whatever you did to my father Hope!"

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis blinks once the woman vanishes, then blinks again when she's suddenly caught from behind. This definitely felt a lot more sophisticated than whatever Hank used, it makes her grin. She reacts with a choked chuckle, an ungloved hand places a finger on the underside of Nadia'arm, the one being used to constrict, then the same on the other used for support. She then applies her power, and the woman can feel the immediate jerk of momentum spontaneously appearing within her arm, equivalent to a professional baseball pitch

"I think we both know if someone is doing something terrible to Dr. Pym it's going to be himself at some point." She chokes out with a gargle, forcing out the words with a lot of effort. In the meantime she can feel, every moment, that same momentum being applied again, growing to push her arms out and away from her neck. In simple terms they are accelerated very quickly away from Shannon's neck the longer they stay in contact."N-nicee...tah- t'metchaghgh..." She then chokes out, not seeming to be doing too well under the pressure.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia also seems to be surprisingly strong for her size and fast. Her arms do give way though with enough force applied them however. But by the second application it seems she already had a plan, using the momentum to spin to the side bringing a vicious elbow to the ribs.

"Where is he?!" She shouts, not seeming to be listening very well, before vanishing again and reappearing in front of Shannon a short distance away with one of her arm gauntlets pointed at her. "Start talking!" It might be comical since that's what Shannon's been trying to do, if she weren't so serious ...and armed.

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis falls over, groaning as she rolls and kicks back up to her feet. Inside her helmet her pupils dilate and shrink, her mouth curls into a pleased smile, this was getting her brain actually started up like a ripcord, she didn't really want to stop it anymore. But she didn't like the idea of how annoying dealing with Hank would be in the aftermath, so, instead, she opens up her helmet.

She looks at Nadia with her lips pressed together and an expression that just screamed 'really?'. "YES, HELLO." She says with a hoarse voice. "IT IS I. I STRESS THE, *I*, PART, AND NOT WHOEVER YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT." She raises her voice, which crackles and makes her cough at several point. "Unless you're like, an assassin from the future to stop me from doing something. At which point I'll be forced to yeet this helmet through your face."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia's expression is a blur of emotions, at first there seems to be genuine concern she may have hurt someone innocent, but then she is reminded of the strange power and the fact she still has no idea who this person in her father's lab is. "You have about five seconds to tell me who you are and what you are doing in my father's lab before winding up in a specimen jar while I go find him myself."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis looks at Nadia, then herself, then back at Nadia. "Look at the friggin' costume, man, who does it look like I am?" She says with a frustrated huff, before clearing her throat. "AS I was saying. HELLO. I am Shannon, yes, Dr. Pym's new assistant, or uh, trainee? Something, I don't know, I don't have an official position." She squints her eyes at Nadia, lightly thumbing the helmet in her hand and projecting trajectories in her head for her own amusement. She offers the girl a smile and sets the helmet on a table nearby. "I was really eager to meet ya, you're as impressive as he makes you sound, he talks about you all the time." Her tone is completely carefree again and relaxed, her expression is friendly.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia does not seem amused, not even a little. She is most definitely looking at the 'friggin costume', that seems to be part of the problem. "You're clearly not Hope." That's something at least. Her eyes continue scanning Shannon, "So that narrows down the possibilities to a doppleganger from a /different/ parallel Earth, or another thief like Scott Lang." She does not seem to hold Mr. Lang in terribly high regard. Absent from the list seems to be Hank actually giving the suit to someone new, surely her father would have told her, right?

But then that is exactly what Shannon seems to imply. She takes a moment and wills herself to relax. She still seems unsure about all of this but at least the gauntlet and its wrist mounted energy blaster are lowered for the moment.

"Dad, didn't mention having a new assistant." Or maybe she was just in space or on some other adventure or not listening or forgot, all of these things are possible. "I'm Nadia." She finally says, "Nadia Pym-van Dyne." It's pretty clear Shannon already knows who she is but it just seems like the right thing to do after Shannon gives her name and it's at least a small gesture. She isn't brandishing weapons anymore at least.

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis shrugs. "He always seems nervous about anything to do with you, so he probably had issues approaching the topic." She says casually, planting her arms back on the wall and grunting as she goes back to doing effort. Her arms twitch from time to time and she breathes in deeply and steady. She seems to completely ignore the stuff about parallel universes. "I was really eager to meet ya, I've wanted to be more like you every day he mentioned you. Not that like, I want to replace you as his daughter or anything creepy like that, you just sound like you're really good at what you do. It's just the kind of step I need to take if I want to get to my dreams."

After rambling on for a bit she grunts a bit harder, intensifying her exercise. "I actually had something pretty relevant I wanted to discuss, Dr. Pym mentioned you're working with tech like his, but lets you shrink and grow stuff at range?"

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
The nonchalance seems to be helping, though Nadia doesn't exactly relax. She does remove her helmet though and pointing one of her gauntlets at it, shrinks it before putting it in her pocket. "Nobody, should want to be me, I'm not sure I want to be me or at least..." She pauses, "Look, I'm sorry for hurting you. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume this is all legit. I mean he did give a suit to Scott Lang. I grew up in a very bad place, it is not something that I would wish upon anyone else. They're still trying to get me back or eliminate me." She makes a face at the daughter replacement remark but doesn't comment on it.

"Also, I'd be careful wearing that suit. There is a homicidal version of me from another reality running around in one exactly like it doing some pretty terrible things." She glances down at her gauntlets that she just used to shrink her helmet in plain view when Shannon mentions shrinking things at range. "That is something I developed, yes, using a hybrid of PymTech and DoomTech. Dr. Von Doom is really brilliant."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis grunted, this time in displeasure. "Great, just what I needed, starting out and there's already someone looking just like me doing bad shit." She says with a sigh, maybe that was a sign to pick her own theme. "Really? I Was thinking of trying to land an internship with him after this. I don't have any PhD's or anything so I doubt that'll work out though. Maybe I should just go look up Dr. Strange for magic or something." She trails off to herself, mind racing through her plans before she stops.

She turns to stare firmly at Nadia, her eyes burning with two things. Determination and ambition. "Now, *I* personally think this is very important and dangerous, so I'll explain what came to my mind the other day." She takes her hands off t he wall, a coin is retrieved from her pocket. "I can shoot things, like this. The amount of force doesn't change, it's always the same no matter the size of the object." The coin is launched across the room with a loud THUNK, bouncing off a wall." She takes a long pause, she feels the woman should already be catching on to what she was going to say.

"All the time you see the kind of villain most heroes can't even dream to take on. The kind of monstrosity you need big, BIG hitters to take out." This part comes out particularly bitter, like, so bitter you could swear she was a 60 year old man with four divorces. "Now I want you to imagine that coin is a super dense material of some sort shrunk down. When I fire it, since it is shrunk to a small size, it'll go flying absurdly fast. Hank has confirmed to me that once it expands again it will not slow down until air friction slows down. So imagine it expands, let's say, five meters away from the target and grows to the size of a truck, going at the speed of a bullet."

She let this sink in once more, leaning back on the wall she was exercising on. "Before you ask, no, you have no reason to help me. I don't even expect you to. I'm telling you this because I think it's important to you and Dr. Pym as well. It could be made into something that could save a lot of lives under the right circumstances. But I AM primarily telling you this because I am SICKENINGLY weak." Just at the second to last word she slams a closed fist into the wall for emphasis, her face turning almost into a wall.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia watches, listens, and folds her arms across her chest. If she had been starting to ease up before, what Shannon is saying makes her stiffen again. "Look, I don't know you, I don't trust you, my Dad might like you, though I'm not even sure about that. Earth is hip deep in an extra-dimensional invasion, Soviet assassins have kidnapped my best friend, and someone wearing my face along with someone wearing my dead mother's face tried to kill another friend of mine recently." She lists it all off as if these are just things that actually happen. "Even if this was a good time, this isn't tech I give out to literally anyone because the potential for misuse is so high. Maybe you can convince my father to rig you up something with those discs he uses, but my answer is no."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis slowly walks up to Nadia, stopping very close to her face. "He seems to think your tech is necessary, honestly I don't know enough about this stuff to even guess. But there will come a time when you're face to face with something so outrageous you will realize you are completely helpless. Maybe if dear-oh-dear Superman was there things would be better, maybe he will be, maybe he won't. But you will not be the one crossing that bridge." She breathes in deep and takes a step back. "Every time I think of that I feel sick to my stomach. When that happens I want you to remember what I told you today. Maybe your super-powered brain will be able to adapt what I said so well it'll take me out of the equation completely. But you'll be kidding yourself if you don't start working on having something large scale like this ready for when the time that it is needed comes. You're supposed to be smart after all."

She opens and closes her hands, fists clenching audibly. "You know, just wearing this suit makes me uncomfortable. What even am I doing? Slipping on someone else's entire accomplishments and piggybacking on their powers. I'm actually doing literally nothing. But what's that to you anyways? I met you for what I thought was important, you make out of it whatever you want. Personally, I'd build something that could hit at the size of a football stadium, you can use planted trackers for distance measurements and shoot it like real artillery, but I'm not known for being sensible. I'll let Dr. Pym know you dropped by." She continues as she she starts sliding out of the suit and focusing on going back to pushing against the wall.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia stares back at her, "That's not how you convince me. You may think you know all about me, but you have no idea what I've seen, been through, been up against. Imagine a different scenario, you could easily fight the enemy that seeks to control you, but in doing so everyone you care about gets hurt or killed. It doesn't matter how strong you are or how big the weapon you have is. What you need isn't more power, it's friends who will have your back to overcome situations like that and while I may not be the best authority on socializing after spending most of my life in a Soviet bunker, this isn't how you make them. I'll find a plasma containment unit somewhere else." And with that she turns back the way she came.
