Date of Scene: 01 February 2021
Location: Brooklyn
Synopsis: Shannon and Spidey get together to train and analyze.
Cast of Characters: Shannon Davis, Peter Parker

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis hopped off the bus and waltzed down the street towards the spot that had been shown to her. She hurries along, since there was perhaps, no one antsier than her when it came down to getting more power and doing adrenaline-inducing things. She stops in the center of the yard, looking around a bit before she grabs her phone and goes for Peter's contact. "Hey, I'm here a the yard, wanna come give me a hand?" She sends a message, since she had plenty of time anyways. In the meantime she presses her hands to the ground and tenses up, straining as much as she can as she starts accelerating at full force. It was the best she could come up with to try and make the mutation get more powerful.

Peter Parker has posed:
<Incoming. Apologies for being late. Attempted mugging/sexual assault had to be foiled. And I think I met Superman Junior.>

About two minutes later, Spider-Man hops over the fence and lands in the yard. He pauses as he sees Shannon working her power against the ground, thinking for a moment of the Charles Atlas ads he used to read about in Uncle Ben's old magazines. The man had watched muscles rippling under the hide of a lion at the zoo, and realizing it was exercises by using his own muscles against other muscles.

He holds up a hand to Shannon as he approaches. "Good evening. How are you doing?"

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis stands up exhaling in relief from the effort and stretching her arms a bit. "Eh, you know, pretty much the same. Trying to make some headway and not any time. Who knows when some kind of unstoppable monster can show up?" When she says the last bit her voice gets almost dreamy and her eyes lose a bit of focus, she's obvious very into something about the idea. Extremely so. "I'll definitely be strong enough by then, I will. I will." It's more that she's telling herself that. "So, what are we doing anyways? Maybe I can try to shoot you."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man grins. "First off...food. I have some stuff I'd like to show you, and I was curious if you've eaten. Aunt made roast beef sandwiches and coleslaw. With her apple pie for dessert. I told her I was meeting someone, so she made enough for two."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis blinks a few times, she was not expecting food delivery. "Oh. That sounds really good enough." A tempting enough offer to overcome her need for power, for now. "Tell her I really appreciate it. What do you want to show me, though?" She asks with intense curiosity.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey opens his backpack and takes out two sandwiches, each in their own zip-lock bag, handing one of them and a can of Cherry Coke to go with it. Next, a small plastic bowl with coleslaw, shredded that afternoon.

After handing Shannon the food, he takes out a notebook. "I was working with the concepts of magnetic and physical force, and I wrote out some formulae and test ideas. If we can accurately measure the force you use, and how you direct it, we can find out what can be done to strengthen or intensify it. If they don't work, then we know how it doesn't manifest, and go from there. You can look through them and see if they match your findings in any way. Keep what works, trash the rest."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis strokes her chin thoughtfuly before replacing the gesture with eating the sandwich. She chews multiple times, then takes another bite, chewing slowly and thinking. "Well. From what I know uh, we don't know how it works." She says with a vague gesture of her hand, lifting and raising the sandwich. "I dunno how to accurately measure it though, I don't know if there's a machine that does that or what. I do know it's pretty weak if I just blast it, I have to hold down the thing I'm launching if I want it to go hard."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey hmms and takes a bite of his sandwich. "Well, how about this...can you control the 'aperture' of the origin of the stream of force? Maybe if you shrink the aperture, you can increase the force?"

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davisholds up a finger, nodding sagely and taking a very 'knowledgeable' expression. "Ah yes young Spider, I did, indeed, test that. Because it is not a 'blast' of force, instead, the acceleration appears directly inside the object in question, decreasing the surface area has a very limited impact. But it does have some. Also I can accelerate at the same rate no matter how little of my hand is in contact with the object."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man nods. "Hmmm. Well, if you can think of gloves or something wrist-mounted that could help the power level, we could try that. Right now, let's see how much was can work with without any force multipliers. Training beats instinct, because that's what it's for." He takes another bite. "We can try with your aim on various objects. What's the range of this ability?"

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis shrugs. "Depends on what I'm throw. I don't really want to use any external gadgets to make myself stronger until I'm really strong at base, you know. I feel like it'll just be like using crutches and I wont grow my natural abilities. We can still think for the future though, I guess." She shoves a large amount of sandwich in her mouth, which disappears a moment later. "As for gloves. Well, a magnetic gauntlet with a space in the center for my skin to touch the object."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey nods thoughtfully. "Hmmm. Armor along the back of the hands and fingers, but something about the thickness of lycra for tactile conduction? That could work." He sips his soda. "Ever thought about a costume? I mean, I wear this so I can keep my crimefighting life and my regular life separate."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis once more shrugs, she cared very little about consequences. "I don't really have an identity built for my hero persona, so I can't really come up with one. Plus my life basically revolves around this so it's the same thing to me." She finishes her food surpisingly fast, a trait of having many siblings. "But yeah, it'd probably need bracing all the way up my forearm though to keep the thing from flying off. But that's just my issue. That power isn't mine. I can't build that. I doubt I ever could even if I spent years doing college and stuff. I'd just be stealing someone's brains to do something for me. It'd be YOUR power Spider-Man. YOUR magnetic launching glove. Just like it was Dr. Pym's suit I was wearing, there's no merit of mine there."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey shrugs. "I'm just spitballing ideas, Shannon. You can do with these observations whatever you wish, use them, alter them, discard them. I have only a passing understanding of what your powers are, and all my insight is secondhand. I'm just utilizing the scientific method."

He finishes his sandwich, the sips his Coke. "And I've already promised not to take part in any fabrication, only providing you with equipment if you need it and I have it."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis nods a few times. "Good. Good. Well, I don't know how to make that so, it'll have to be for a time when I'm comfortable with the state of my powers." She also finishes her drink extremely fast, it was a large household with little money to go around. "Honestly I don't want to have to use any equipment." She says, staring at her palm, she clenches it hard. "I want to be STRONG. Strong on my own, by myself, with my own abilities. I think it's bullshit that the universe gets to decide who's weak and who's strong. Why should I have to cower before all-powerful aliens and demons and other outrageous stuff? No. I'm going to beat their asses. All of them." It was one of the only two pillars of Shannon's psyche. The emphasis here is TWO. Which is a most unstable and problematic number of pillars, whereas it should have been three. The second was her simple drive to satisfy her craving for the 'awesome' and the life threatening sensation of adrenaline.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man nods. "Well, you know the old joke about the guy trying to get to an opera at Carnegie Hall, and stops at a street violinist, asks him how to get to Carnegie Hall, and the guy responds with, 'Practice.'"
Spidey stands up. "So we're going to practice, experiment with different methods, figure out what works. And that starts here, Shannon. So, when you're done with dessert, we can get to it."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis was very excited by this, she twitches and fumbles about a lot, which ends up with savagely eating through the dessert. Though not without stopping for a moment to appreciate it. "Hwoh waw! Thishhreally guh!" She says with her mouth full, chewing a bunch before swallowing and finishing in about three bites. The mixture of the quality of the flavor with her anxiety to start made it go by fast.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man smiled under the mask. "Best in New York. He walked over to what looked like a shooting gallery, only the targets (square blocks of metal) sat on posts at the front of the range, with distance markers going out to 30 yards, as well as targets at the end.

"We're going to work how much force you can apply, training how to direct it, and so on. Each block weighs 50 pounds. The goal is to get it as far downrange as possible, and if you can get it all the way downrange, to see if you can make it hit the bullseyes."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis frowns seeing the size of the blocks, she nods a bit hesitantly and stops i nfront of one. She plants a hand against it and focuses. There's a loud THUNK and the block kind of shifts forwards a few inches. She rubs her neck afterwards and makes an annoyed grunt. "Eehm. Might be overshooting the expectations." She tells him with some embarassment in her voice. "I gotta be able to hold it down somehow to make it anywhere decent."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man looks puzzled before he realized his mask was still up to his nose and he pulled it down. "Don't worry. That's why we're here. Uhm, hold it down in what way? Maybe I can alter the setup to work better with you?"

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis me sighs deeply, it was her greatest plight. "It starts moving when I start accelerating it. So I can't *charge* it before shooting because it moves away from me. You'd have to tie it down and then cut the rope once it accelerates enough. It's really SO INCREDIBLY inconvenient. But it does mean I can potentially accelerate stuff to ridiculous amounts given enough time. I did shoot Wonder Woman through a rock colossus."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man snaps his fingers. "Electromagnets! I can put magnets in the base, and adjust the power by how much juice I run through them. It'll holds them down until your power overwhelms the magnetic force, and...well, phwoosh!" He smiled widely.

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davisme ponders this, squeezing her eyes at the things. "Hmm, that way I can train the effort I can put in to make it stronger and the control, and the aim?" She questions, it technically wasn't being used to help her but as a training mechanism so it seemed fine. "That sounds pretty neat."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man takes out his notebook, writing in it for a moment. "Okay. I can install these tomorrow. In the meantime, we'll improvise."
He walks over to one block, lifting it in the palm of his left hand, then Shannon can see how the tiny gaps between the block and his gloved hand disappear. "Okay...try it now."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis nodded and approached, that should work, she figured, he was one of the stronger heroes she knew in the physical department. A hand is pressed against the block, there's a swishing sound this time as she constantly pours the momentum in. The instant blast mode translated into the acceleration she could imbue the thing with in what *seemed* like an instantaneous moment, meaning roughly 0.1 seconds. This means that one full second later it reaches the 150 newton mark, for something made out of metal that could cause a lot of damage to a person, but for a 50 pound block it still would not fly very far. In ten seconds it was 1500, and so forth, it was up to Spider-Man, how long would he hold it?

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man held on for as long as he felt it was safe, and then he let go.
The block shot from his hand, going a good eight yards before landing heavily.
Spider-Man hmmed. "Okay. I felt that. How much force and how long did it take to generate?"

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis grumbled a bit as she got her cellphone out and started typing on a little notes app. "UHhghh..the uh...the weight, then the time...uh, eight yards. Kinda roughly, I guess this much, uh." She spends a while trying to figure it out, she's not the most academically proficient person, she did terrible in school, but for this she didn't mind putting in the effort. "So, 2250 newtons of force. So that would take...15 seconds.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey nods, marking that down. "Okay. Let me see if I can hold it for thirty seconds while you're powering up and see where that goes."

He picks up another block, then holds it firmly in one outstretched hand. "I'll let go at 30. Crank it up."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis clears her throat as if she was about to make a speech, then plants a hand down. She frowns and focuses, trying her hardest to increase the rate of the charging, letting it pour in as much as she could. with a result 5000 newtons of force that was, well, not too much, Spidey could certainly handle it. It was the equivalent to perhaps a dropkick or a very powerful strike from an olympic athlete. In this case the force wasn't an impact, but more of a throw, which gets the block about twice as far since it hardly was enough to get the block to terminal velocity.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man's eyebrows rose (which translated to the eye-lenses widening). "Wow...that's pretty good. The better you get, maybe you can cycle it up a little faster. Actually felt that one."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis slowly moved her head from side to side in a thoughtful gesture. "Eh, it took a while though." Since it was a 50 pound block of metal it was definitely going to hurt a normal human. Though the exact amount would depend a lot. "Normally I have to accelerate the metal I'm holding and punch with it at the same time to get decent results. I really really really really need to up my uh, mutation, uh, force?" That's what I'm going to mainly ask Beast about."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey nodded, then went to pick up another block. "Question. Ever felt stronger or more aware of this power after any particular foods? I had to swear off the caffeine for the most part, because it would start jangling my Spider-Sense."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davisme grunted a bit. "If only I were so lucky. No, I don't think I've ever noticed any changes. It only got stronger when I grew using Dr. Pym's particles. Maybe if I took some of those make-you-superhuman drugs it would have an effect too." She gets in position and begins accelerating the block, focusing on the feel of her powers and giving a bit more attention to the control and rate.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey's jaw tightens at the count of 35...he's really holding on this time. "Yeah, stay away from drugs. Mutant Growth Hormone is an expensive and INTENSE...oof...addiction. Soon, it becomes the only way you can...function...42...43...44...45!"
And with that, he releases.

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis sighs, she didn't mind the other part, but expensive was really not viable for her. "It doesn't last permanently does it? That kind isn't really what I'd be looking for anyways. Only stuff that makes my normal self strong, y'know?" He was doing most of the effort here, even if her arm did have to tense and strain for the acceleration to build so much. That gets the block proportionally farther, if fired into someone's face it would probably break their neck.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey makes a few more notes. "Okay, here's what I've got so far from my observations and your calculations." He tears out the page, then hands it to Shannon. "This is yours. Hope it helps your computations. I'll get the electromagnets set up and calibrated, and you can put them to use by tomorrow."

Shannon Davis has posed:
Shannon Davis nods. "Absolutely, I didn't have much info on how much force to use on people, since I normally don't need to hold back." She pockets it carefully and sits again, planting her hands on the ground. "In the meantime I'll go back to pushing the limits of how long I can accelerate stuff for. Maybe that'll make the minimum go up too. I'll swing by tomorrow again."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man nods. "Send me a text when. I'll be here."
