Relucant First Day
Date of Scene: 14 March 2020
Location: Main Foyer
Synopsis: Josh's first tour around the mansion is from Lorna. That caused some serious feels and conflict internally for Josh.
Cast of Characters: Joshua Foley, Lorna Dane

Joshua Foley has posed:
After last night, well Josh slept in. A full blown panic attack, fit of tears, and all that shock was a lot on his system. Mentally really because he was in absolute perfect health with no physical detriments from all that. But spoons, they were absolutely all lost.

The next day though he managed to get a book from the nurse and was chilling reading a bit anxiously as he waited for someone to come and give him a tour of the school and tell him a bit more about where he would evidentl be living now. Kitty said someone would.

His confidence in this whole situation is not very high mind you, but he literally has no where else to go right now with his family abandonning him and his old friends likely to hurt him.

So yeah he is reading the latest Star Force Wars book.

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna had had her own share of mental issues in the past few weeks since being pulled from the rubble of Genosha's ruined capital city. She had survived when so many others hadn't, but her scars were entirely mental. Unfortunately those were the ones that were often harder to heal. She was lost, and still struggling to figure out her place in the school and in the world. She wasn't a teacher, she wasn't a student. She was a member of the X-men long last returned to the school, and wasn't actually functional enough to join on missions. Not fully.

Never mind that whole 'public persona' issue..

Still when asked to check in on the other 'guest' to the Mansion, Lorna had agreed to do it, mostly for lack of anything else to do. The woman sighed, wearing a thick black sweater and pair of jeans as she went to go find Josh. She stepped into the room with an arched brow.

"I was told you needed a look around?"

Joshua Foley has posed:
Josh's bed is actually made, he just has no place else to be but the wellness center until a room has been assigned to him. Which honestly it probably either has been or will immintently be.

He looks up at the entrance of somsone new when she speaks to him. Not just someone else coming through for the Nurse, or the Nurse asking if he might be able to help with a minor scrape or cut on one of the students.

Yes he was put to work on very simple things this morning, mostly to build up his confidence a little bit and get some praise for using his newly discovered power.

When he looks up though he freezes recognizing Lorna. "Holyshit" just kind of pops right out of his mouth. Yeah he recognizes who she is from the news and all that. Not like LEX News is very flattering to the whole Genosha situation or the royal family.

Thank god he was swapped into sweats and isn't wearing the t-shirt he was brought in wearing that said Magneto Was A Terrorist that he had on under the Reaver gear. Nope. Now he is wearing an Xavier's t-shirt.

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna blinked once, then a second time. Honestly, at this point she should be well used to people freaking out when she came down to the medical area these days. First Ellie, and now this young mutant. She smiled haltingly, and stepped further into the room with a soft click of her boots against the tile beneath her. "Eh.. is that a good thing or not?" She tilted her head briefly and glanced about the room before her gaze swung back to Josh. Her hair was shorn short, far shorter than in any of the promo or PR images Genosha had released of her. She looked hollowed out, with shadows hanging under her eyes. There was an edge to her gaze, one that spoke of immense suffering and pain. Even if she smiled, it did not reach her eyes.

"Or would you prefer to stay here...? I could get Kitty instead? Someone else? An actual teacher would've been better honestly.."

Joshua Foley has posed:
That is honestly a very good question. Is it a good holy shit or not. Josh blinks as he stares at her for a long moment and then just shakes his head.

"no.. no it is okay I just never would have thought that I would meet you here. I mean.. you are Lorna Dane, Magneto's daughter right?" he actually sounds a little nervous closing his book now. There are tons of stories in the right wing media about Magneto and his whole family.

He scoots turning to half slide off the bed and snag his shoes to put them on now. Keeping half an eye on Lorna.

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna gave a hesitant chuckle, nervous even, as if uncomfortable with someone asking her outright if she was who they thought she was.. particularly here in the Mansion where her guard was down and people typically just... accepted her. Or didn't care who she was. Nor who she was related to. She folded her arms slightly, "Well.. yeah.. that's me. Not that many mutants running around here with green hair." She drawled, and paused in her approach toward Josh.

"And you are? I mean.. I don't know your name and you know me.. so I'm at a bit of a disadvantage there." She smiled weakly, and shoved her hands into her pockets.

At least he wasn't falling to his knees and calling her his Queen. That had happened once already today and she didn't want to deal with it again. "I wasn't exactly told anything about you beyond, hey, there's a newbie that needs to be shown around.."

Joshua Foley has posed:
"Wait.. they asked you to show me around but didn't tell you who I am?" that actually causes the teenager a chunk of anxiety as he finishes tying his shoes there and then straightens to stand. He crosses his arms unconsciously "showing his discomfort and defensiveness but it doesn't show past that.

"... I'm Josh." pause "Josh Foley. Some people brought me in after ..." gosh this is hard. "After people I thought were my friends hurt me and knocked me out cold because I can heal people ... and I guess I need shown around because I don't have anywhere else to go. My parents aren't taking it ..well and I'm sure they will come around but I can't go home." he is leaving out some key details but well if the people didn't mention it, it is probably for a reason and honestly he is glad she doesn't seem to know the whole story right now. Subterfuge isn't his forte though.

Also his parents aren't like to come around, but he is holding out hope really.

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna's eyebrows furrowed sharply, "People don't tell me much these days." She offered with a shrug and light roll of her shoulders back as she continued her approach to a more comfortable, conversational distance. She offered a look filled with sympathy as Josh introduced himself and told her some of what had happened to him recently. She grimaced.

"I'm sorry, that can't be easy. Everyone here has a story, not necessarily similar or even close.. but we all have stories about our mutations and how they caused us pain or hurt... how they separated us from society.. It's not easy. But it will get better. We're here for just those reasons. And if here doesn't suit you... well, there's Mutant Town still.." She offered, but looked pained. As if she were about to say something else and thought better of it.

"C'mon, I can at least get you out of the medical area."

Joshua Foley has posed:
There is definitely some internal issues he is having with how nice and normal everyone is around here. Friendly and helpful so far. Sympathetic even.

Of course when she mentions Mutant Town he gets pretty wide eyed about that thought. "I..uh.. no I think this will work until my parents let me come home." he is thinking back to a couple days ago when he was in the middle of that scrum and people were being hurt, mostly the people that he came with and not the residents, but still it was really haunting.

Also there is a decent chance many of the congregation saw his face.

"Sure.. though.. lets get out of here. I feel kind of weird taking up space here not beign hurt or anything..." he offers an unsure smile.

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna smiled and turned to start leading Josh out of the medical area and back up to the more 'normal' levels of the Mansion proper. "I get that, I'm kind of lucky that I didn't end up in medical recently myself. Though that likely had to do with the fact that nothing was physically really wrong with me.." She shrugged, and bit back a sigh as her gaze went distant. Some of her smile fading away as she spoke.

"Anyways, if you're here it's because someone decided that you needed to be here for one reason or another." She murmured, her voice soft and gentle. She kept walking, and would glance back every now and then.

"This place is primarily a training center and school. A strange mix, but it's worked for us so far.." She murmured, and opened the door with a wave of her hand.

Joshua Foley has posed:
Nothing might be physically wrong, but yeah Josh can't really even begin to understand the otheri mpacts of all the loss in Genoshea. It was a distant thing that happened to distant mutants as far as he was concerned before today really. Mutants getting what they deserved as far as his parents and friends were concerned.

That whole realization that it was very personal for other people is warring for headspace with his own very immediate and personal problems. Like all he has to his name is his wallet, his shoes, his hoodie, and his cellphone.

the reaver armor and his old shirt are gone wherever Kitty and others ditched them. Those items were deamed safe at least, though Kitty is probably tapping his phone at this point. "One sec.." he ducks over to get the wallet and phone from the table, messing with it. "Kitty said my ability to heal was a real gift and I guess it isn't very common ... I don't think I can throw vans or fly or anything..."

He ducks out into the hallway from medical walking with her. "Is there no cell reception up here?" nah there totally is, his phone has just been turned off because his parents cut him off the family plan already.

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna pushed her shorn hair back from her face and offered another sympathetic glance as Josh turned about to grab his wallet and phone. She waited by the door, and when he returned she kept walking toward the upper levels and the main floor. "Healing is a wonderful gift, all powers are gifts. Even if they might not seem like it. I wish I had the power to do something like you can, it is rare. Especially now. The few healers I knew were.. are.." She broke off. Dead. They were dead. Like the rest of Genosha. Slaughtered in their homes, their schools, and places of work.

Her brain ground to a halt momentarily, and she shook her head.

"Yeah we get decent enough cell reception out here. Too many fancy houses out in Westchester to not... Is your phone not working? I can get you the wifi password.."

Joshua Foley has posed:
Healers are rare. Of course they can't bring everyone back on Genosha. That would take something else entirely to pull off something like that.

"Not even sure how trying to heal people professionally would even work.." Josh is puzzled by his phone and honestly misses her brain grinding to a halt like that. He hasn't really gotten the whole empathy and self actualization step of growing up under control yet.

"The battery is okay..." he messes with the Starkphone for a moment then tries to place a call and puts it up to his ear. "It's been disconnected..." hearing the message. Going to cellular settings next, no account. "Fuck." he says it just pops out of his mouth. His turn for his brain to grind to a halt for a minute. Not over the phone directly but the fact his parents must have turned off his phone.

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna glanced back at Josh as he spoke, still clearly more wrapped up in his phone than in anything else. She waited, realizing the 'tour' of the building wasn't going to get very far if the young mutant was wrapped up in whatever was wrong with his phone. She bit back a sigh, and forced another smile. "We had a whole hospital set up for mutants and power related injuries. We also had pretty advanced medical care set up. A few healers were trained in medicine beyond their abilities and as a result, saved what they could do for the worst injuries." And the royal family. Whenever she'd even gotten a scratch there were medical personnel on hand at the drop of a hat.

She glanced at the phone, pursed her lips as she let Josh go through his account to try to figure out what was wrong. She didn't interrupt him.

But once he swore, she sighed and shook her head. "We'll get it sorted out, I promise. That's a minor issue that we can actually handle here pretty easily. New phones and everything."

Joshua Foley has posed:
Yeah it isn't the phone, it is the realization that his dad wasn't just mad in the moment, he was mad and calculated enough to cut off his phone and god knows what else now. Josh just kind of numbly nods and stuffs his phone into his other pocket.

"Sorry.." because eventually the whole business about what she was saying does sink in there. Despite his friends he really isn't a monster. "I'm glad that some people got help." he means it to. It is really hard to think that a bunch of suddenly very humanized people deserved to be hurt there. "Is that what this school is training people to do.. I mean not that but to .. you know?" he starts to move again looking around. He hasn't actually bene out of the wellness office "Wow it really is a mansion..."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna gave him the space he needed to think through the phone issue. She wasn't sure exactly what was going on, or why he was upset.. but vaguely realized he was. And as such, respected that. The green haired woman inclined her head simply, and once he shoved it away, she nodded and led him further about, making sure to shut the doors and open them before he'd walk into them.

As they emerged into the Mansion proper she smiled, "Yeah, people come here for help, and sometimes they stay." She offered, "This place isn't like Genosha, it's very much a secret and very much not open to the public. So." She glanced at Josh, "No telling anyone where you're at or anything.. Yeah?" She smiled weakly, and gestured about them.

"There are classrooms somewhere, a library, kitchen, dining room, and what not. Staff wing. I don't know where you're going to end up, but I'll get Kitty to tell me."

Joshua Foley has posed:
"Well.. to be fair I have no idea where I am at." he glances at his shirt. "I mean... I have a hunch it may be a place called Xaviers... but that is about it to be honest. I'm not even sure what state we are in." and yeah his phone isn't working so he really does have no idea.

He looks around at the foyer then walks over to the map on the wall. "Geeze... this place has a swimming pool.. basketball court.. tennis court and boathouse." he just blinks at the map. "Okay this is a whole level I wasn't really expecting..."

He looks to Lorna. "How about we hit the important places.. like the kitchen and dining room...?" because yeah knowing where to get food is important.

Someone later can tell him where he is sleeping tonight, it isn't like he has any boxes to move and unpack after all.
