Date of Scene: 17 February 2021
Location: Garage
Synopsis: Scott, having just finished shop class, teaches Paige how to install her windshield wiper blades and Sam comes by to chat.
Cast of Characters: Scott Summers, Paige Guthrie, Roberto da Costa, Samuel Guthrie

Scott Summers has posed:
It's between classes for Scott, the only hour he's got to himself for lunch and he's spending it in the garage after releasing some of the older students from Beginner Engineering. Wiping his hands with a rag, the hood of a 69 Shelby GT Mustang sits open, tools left behind by students who were in too much of a hurry to get to the cafeteria to put them away.

So Scott stayed behind to do so.

Everything back in its place. Wrenches, screwdrivers, he's just now moving the wench out from in front of the bumper where they'd raised the engine out of the block to look at some of the machinery that makes the combustion work.

Music is playing from his cellphone hooked to the wifi speaker system. Bad Religion: Infected, while he works. Cleaning each tool before putting it away. Wearing coveralls smudged with oil, his hair is combed back out of his face and off the red lensed glasses sitting snug against his brow.

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Heading out into the garage is Paige, who carries in her hands a new set of wipers for her car that she parked inside earlier. It's a bright cherry red Volkswagon Rabbit from the 80's. The only thing Sam could afford for her on whatever cash he scraped together. It came with some old wipers and thus, she was able to find a set on Amazon to be sent over. She even printed out the instructions on how to do it.

As she sets the bag down, she gives a glance over towards the sound of music and the sight of Mister Summers. She presses her lips together for a moment in thought, then clears her throat. "Hello, sir." She says as she places the instructions on the hood of her car, then leans forward to start jostling the old wipers, trying to unhook them as instructed. "That's ah' really nice car."

Roberto da Costa has posed:
Even with his earbuds in, the sound of loud dance music can be heard before Roberto comes dancing in. He's practicing his dance moves, dressed in a colorful soccer jersey, shorts and sneakers he smiles as he spots Paige and grabs her hand to lead her in some terrible version of the cha-cha.

Its mid dance that he realizes they aren't alone and while dipping her he freezes, staring at Scott before smiling and slowly lifting Paige back out of that dip. The music is stopped and the buds pulled from his ears as he says, "Hey Scott. Didn't see you there. I was thinking Paige might need a hand with the wipers. Cool car."

Scott Summers has posed:
Cool car.

Scott glances up from putting the last wrench into the toolbox where it belongs and is moving it back into a place out of the way when Paige steps in carrying new wiper blades and complements for his car. "Thank you. I rebuilt it myself." He explains, only a small hint of pride in his voice, but mostly matter of fact.. He dips his head to Roberto as well, "I got your paper, Ms. Guthrie. I hope to see yours soon, as well, Mr. Da Costa?" Inviting the young man to explain or produce!

An extended hand deactives his music, cellphone sliding into the back pocket of his coveralls once it grows silent in the garage. "I could give you a hand with those, if you want. Or I could teach you how to put them on yourself, if you don't already know." The later option obviously being the one which he prefers.

Paige Guthrie has posed:
As she is swept up by Roberto and his groovy dance moves, Paige lets out a noise of surprise, though she wings it a bit as she moves along with him on quick feet. "Berto', um .. we got comp-- " Looks like he spotted Scott. As she is dipped backwards, her blonde hair falls back behind her as she stares at the teacher upside down before she is brought back up.

Giving the Brazillian a nudge to the side, she turns her attention back towards Scott. "Ah' got instructions on how ta' do it. But it's mah first time so my hands aren't used ta' it yet. If yah' wanna help out, ah'd be okay with it." She picks up the new wipers and opens the package, then goes back to glancing at the instructions. She even printed step by step pictures to go along with it.

Roberto da Costa has posed:
Moving off to the side as he slips his phone and earbuds away, Roberto finds himself a makeshift seat on one of the workbenches. Settled in he smiles while looking from Paige to Scott. "Hrmm? You didn't get it? Its in your inbox. I dropped it off this morning."

With that said he doesn't intrude on the conversation between Paige and Scott, instead sitting back and just hanging out for now.

Scott Summers has posed:
Scott glances to the red Volts Wagon and waves for Paige to join him, nodding to Roberto, "My apologies. I haven't had a chance to make it back to my office today." His class schedule is full, having picked up quite a few extra courses to teach. "Roberto, do you know how to install windshield wiper blades?" He wonders with a sideways glance over his shoulder.

Now standing to the right side of the engine, he's reaching down to pull the wipers up so they're stinking straight out from the windshield like a bugs antenna. "It's actually quite simple." To Paige this time, letting her read over her own step by step guide so that she learns by her own chosen method. Then he'll demonstrate to reenforce what she'd read...

Paige Guthrie has posed:
"Yeah, it looks really simple." Paige says as she reaches out to one wiper, leaning over the hood to begin fiddling with it. She gives it a quick tug after pulling the pin and hook back, then removes the old one, putting it to the side. She wipes her dirty hands off on the back of her jeans, then rustles out a new one. "Ah' watched a video on it a few times ta' make sure that ah'd have a good idea of what it looks like in action. They said putting th' new one on will be kinda tricky."

She gives a glance over to Roberto as he confirms he did the assignment, smiling proudly at him before looking back to Scott. "I could use some help hooking the new one back on though."

Scott Summers has posed:
"It's not as complicated as they make it appear." Scott explains in an even tone, leaning over the otherside of the hood to point out the hook on the frame, then to the small latch on the side of new blade. "Remove that cap and angle it towards the windshield, then click it backwards into place. Then just lower the clip and you're done." Straight forward.

A glance to Roberto as well, if only a second, and he looks back to Paige. Both hands down on the side of her car to brace himself, "This is a nice car." He says honestly, "Well built. There's a reason people still drive them. Did you know that Volkswagen, at leas the company from which it was founded, use to make the fighter planes for German occupational forces during World War Two?"

Paige Guthrie has posed:
"Ah did not know that. Ah' just know that Sam got me this car because it was th' most affordable that he could get his hands on. It's an 83 ah' think. Ah' even picked up a couple of cassettes so ah' can listen to music. Th' radio stations don't come through real strong." Paige hooks the wiper up with a few wiggles, then sets it down with a smile.

With that, she starts to work on the next one. "I know that Volkswagon's are a good name though. Precision German Engineering." She drawls out the tagline from the old commercials.

Scott Summers has posed:
Scott chuckles quietly and nods, going back to rubbing some more of the grease from his hands. He and Paige around her red voltswagon, Scott wearing coveralls from having just finished an engineering class only fifteen or so minutes prior. "To say the least, yes. The company was created by the labour party. At the time we entered the war, their fighter planes were second only to the zero.. but with the entire country turned to a war production economy, they were able to produce them by the hundreds. It very nearly won them the war." He explains.

He sounds impressed, more for the work of engineering than the individuals responsible. "It also led to the United States and British increasing their research into propulsion engines. Imagine where we'd be today, if not for the Volkswagon." With clean(er) hands, he traces his palm along the bubled side of the old car. Patting it gently with a nod.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie comes driving into the garage in his shiny new Ford F-150, pulling into the spot where he normally had his station wagon parked. He looks over, and sees the others around Paige's car, and as he climbs out of the truck "Did I miss something when I tuned up the rabbit?"

Scott Summers has posed:
"Good afternoon, Sam." Scott greats the elder Guthrie with a polite nod. His expression, while not hard, is typical for him. Neutral, almost bland? Those who know him, know he's certainly anything but bland, however. "It's nothing like that. I was showing Ms. Paige how to install her new windshield wiper blades and giving her a history lesson on the Volkswagon." Which she never specifically asked for, but...

Every moment is a teachable one, right?

There's a Shelby GT Mustang with the hood open. A car that Scott has been working on for years. Getting parts here and there and using it as a project for his engineering class. It's not yet finished, but it's not far from being so either.

Possibly one or two more semesters.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods and walks over and says "Ah was showing her how to change the oil when I gave it to her. Was a decent price, had to put a little bit of time in on the engine from previous owner's work, but she should be steady for a while, Though Paige should prob take one of the autoshop classes, is a bit different than working on the truck or tractor back home." He offers a smile and says "Oh, wanted to ask, does the school need any help with Drivers Ed?

Scott Summers has posed:
"Mm." Scott nods along with Sam, glancing at the old volkswagon appreciatively with just the smallest downward tip of his chin towards his chest. He dare not peer over his glasses, but that's the image he casts regardless. "They're tough cars. Well built, as I was explaining to your sister." As for her taking an autoshop class, he nods agreement. "As you know, it is a required prerequisit for flight class." Said matter of factly. The latter question, however, he nods. "I'm sure that there is room in the corriculum for it, but you should speak with Jean and present it to her. She's the final say on new courses."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods his head and says "Have taught a few of my classmates coming up or at least helped with it, figured would be a way of helping out. I have been thinking might take some piloting classes myself. Might not need it myself, but if something was to happen, I am one of the guys who might be able to catch the blackbird and board it to help.

Scott Summers has posed:
"It's always better to prepare for the worst possible situations so that you're not caught flat footed." Scott agrees when Sam says he's a mind to learn piloting. "There's training simulations programmed into the Danger Room if you want to start getting flight hours. The flight classes aren't until Summer, so you've got plenty of time to get the required number of hours." The garage, at least once Scott is done with it, is spotless. Everything back in its place. The hood remains open on the old Mustang with the engine suspended on a wench, but there's not even a fingerprint on the frame.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over and nods his head "I should be able to fit it in, got through the first thick collection of classes at the academy, where they try to weed out anyone not committed to it, so should have a bit more time to do things.

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Having walked Roberto out so they can have a quick talk, followed by a quick smooch, Paige comes back with a blush along her cheeks and a bit more perkier in her step. She wipes her hands off on her jeans again as she tunes back into the conversation. She starts to clean up her package and the old wipers so that she can throw them into a garbage bin.

Scott Summers has posed:
Scott doesn't have to pretend not to be aware of Paige giving Berto a peck on the cheek because he doesn't look. If he got bent out of shape everytime students were smooching, he'd stay angry. Instead he finishes putting away the last of his tools and folds the rag he'd been using to clean them. It's tucked away in one of the big garbage cans for a student assigned laundry duty to come pick up later. "I have faith in you." Said to Sam, nodding. "Your sister and Mr. Da Costa did well in a simulation yesterday. You should be proud of her."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie notices the blush when his sister comes in and he justifies it is from the compliment from Scott, yea thats it, pay no attention the compliment came after the blush. "Well Paige is a quick study and if she sets her mind to iy she will do it, and Berto hates being second in anything.

Paige Guthrie has posed:
Slowing down her pace at the mention of the simulation, Paige gives a nod of her head as she glances over towards them. "Yes, we make a really good team when he is focused." She is always focused, obviously. "Though Berto' better get used to coming in second when he's with me." There's a twitch of her lips upwards for a brief moment.

Scott Summers has posed:
Scott smirks, finding a comfortable place to lean, and fish around in a paperbag for his lunch. A ham and cheese sandwich. He's another class not long from now, so he'd better get his food in before he isn't able to. "Clearly." He muses, unfolding the plastic wrapping to expose one corner of the sandwich for a bite. Letting what's left hang down at his side absently for now. "When did you get the new truck?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie says, "Nods to Paige, and says "Well he maybe used to coming in second to a Guthrie." He jokes a bit, and says "Berto bought it for me for my birthday with Paige helping him find the right one for me. I think they were tired of riding in the wagon. Trying to decide if I want to donate it to the shop class here or drive it home to let ma have it for Melody and Jeb.""

Paige Guthrie has posed:
"Just cuz' Jay can fly, doesn't mean he wouldn't want a car. He's next in line." Paige says with a grin to her brother. "Ah' picked th' truck out for him. Berto just passed over the suitcase of cash .. or diamonds... it was an experience, that's for sure."

Scott Summers has posed:
"Shopclass has the Shelby to work on." Scott nods to the classic mustang after taking another bite of his sandwich, "Take the truck home to your mother.. or just drive it. It was a gift afterall." Agreeing with Paige in this regard, "No need to give up the truck for the school. I assure you I have plenty of old cars we can work on for shopclass." He's the shop teacher, afterall.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie chuckles "No I am keeping the truck, ment the station wagon was pondering what to do with it. Thought about Allegra, but still gotta teach her to drive for her to use it. " He looks over to Paige, and says "Still gotta get used to Jay and not Josh, but figured he was part owner in that band van or something."

Paige Guthrie has posed:
"No one wants to be part owner of a band van, Sam. Having his own car would give him some freedom from relying on his friends to cough up the keys." Paige pats the top of her car gently. "You'd really let the kids work on the Shelby? That car is way too pretty ta' let someone like .. " She pauses, trying to think of a name. ".. well.. there's ah' few here ah wouldn't want messing with a beautiful car like that."

Scott Summers has posed:
"Ah." Scott inclines his head at the correction, nodding to Sam. Looking then to Paige, "Of course. I bought the frame a few years ago from a junkyard." Wiping the corners of his mouths with a napkin after fishing his sandwich, "I've been buying parts since then just for students to learn. I feel like they appreciate it more if what they ultimately help build turns out to be a beautiful classic." Not that money has ever really been a huge priority for Scott anyways.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods his head a bit to this and says "I put a couple hours here and there on the Shelby." He comments as he has always been helping out in the auto classes, to one help others and two pick up little tricks might help with his own car. "Well I would mainly be giving it to Ma, and let her decide where it went." He admits.
