Happy Harbor: School Assembly
Date of Scene: 15 March 2021
Location: Theater - Happy Harbor High School
Synopsis: The faculty and students of Happy Harbor get an announcement. They're going public!
Cast of Characters: Morrigan MacIntyre, Albert Rothstein, Colleen Wing, Friday, Damian Wayne, Irie West, Hank Pym, Vivian Vision

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
School Assembly's tended to be boring, but given the special circumstances of some of the things at Happy Harbor this had the potential to not be boring. Students and Faculty were asked to report to the theater for the assembly. It was a nicer place to sit for the kids and honestly...who wants to sit in the gym anyways?

Morrigan is standing up on the stage with her assistant Michael as people come in, the two of them reading over the screen of a tablet that's got notes on it. Thank the gods for technology. She's not far from the podium that is used though. Once it looks like people are getting settled she gives a nod to Michael and then steps up, "I'll give everyone a few moments to get settled and then we'll get started." she comments to everyone.

Albert Rothstein has posed:
Albert Rothstein shows up, and stands at the back of the auditorium. He is wearing a button up shirt and jeans. His Mohawk pulled back into a pony tail, as he is "cleaned up" about as best as a shop teacher gets. He does have all of his fingers so he maybe new at the job.

Colleen Wing has posed:
Colleen has not spent much time at American schools. But the opportunity to expand her dojo and reach more students was something she couldn't pass up. Now she finds herself leaning against a wall on the side of the hall watching all the kiddies file in and take seats. Kids are adorable. She loves her kids classes at her own dojo. Teenagers are trickier, that requires her to really invest herself in to their troubles to train them. Very rewarding.

Friday has posed:
A woman known to absolutely noone (possibly the administrator?) arrives, walking. Five foot six, around 160 lbs, she has her hair done up in a prim bun. Dark hair suits her, her skin is the darkness of the southern islands, and she wears a grey suit jacket over slacks.

Boots clicking gently, she walks up to the gathering area and stands waiting a moment. With wide cheekbones, she smiles about, but there is clear nerves in her actions. She seems to be new, and uncertain where to sit or where to be. However she does manage to step past most, until she reaches...

The teacher's seating??? She chooses a seat there, then places herself quietly. New teacher!

Damian Wayne has posed:
Damian had dressed in the school uniform, as required. Taking a seat close to the isle, it was a habit of his. Always be close to an exit.

The fifteen year old's fade crew cut was styled nicely with pomade. Damian was highly advanced, but nary a diploma to his name. His attendance in Happy Harbor was mainly to acquire such certificates and for social interaction with age peers.

He made no attempts to hide his name here, everyone knew the youngest Wayne wasn't attending Gotham Academy like his father and brothers before him.

Irie West has posed:
This is Irie's first day of school, and it happens to be one with school assembly. To say that she's overwhelmed is an understatement. This is the first time she's been around so many teens her age (kinda) and it's hard for her not to just seize up from overstimuli.

She sees somebody she knows and immediately makes her way towards them, sitting next to Viv. She clutches her bookbag close to her chest as she feels the warm press of bodies completely surrounding her. She never thought she could feel so anxious with so many people around her, but unlike when she's out being Kid Flash, she's just here as herself and this is completely nerve wracking!

She leans over to whisper to Viv, "Is it normal to have a school assembly on the first day of school? What kind of things do they talk about?"

Hank Pym has posed:
People. His greatest weakness.

"I wanted to thank you for coming to show me moral support... Saeko?" Hank Pym looks where one would expect to find Saeko but sees a Saeko shaped void. He knew it could happen but he ad hopes. His service animal was left in the lab for safety concerns. Bo was a good ant but he'd done much for and with Pym lately. He needed a rest. Wearing his West Coast speed suit and a lab coat Hank stops at the back of the auditorium and takes a deep breath. Then he continues.

His hardest battles were always against himself. He sits down way in the back and concentrates on breathing normally.

Vivian Vision has posed:
Vivian is one of those kids who, despite it not being mandatory, wears her school uniform to any official school functions. Or at least a holographic representation of it. It's hard to say for sure. Those who know her can tell she's at least using a holograph to hide her synthezoid skin & eye colours. Her hair remaining green but with slight discolourations that make it seem like it came out of a bottle.

"I do not really know," she whispers back to Irie. "I have only got a very small data-set to work with. Perhaps they intend on introducing the new faculty members? Doctor Pym, who is Nadia's father, appears to be joining the teaching staff this year."

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan gives a look around for a few moments as everyone gets settled and there is a nod to Michael before he steps away. A gentle clearing of her throat is done out of nervousness more than anything else. She reaches up to remove her sunglasses and those odd violet eyes of hers flick over the crowd before she speaks, "Friday is the last day of classes as Spring Break starts on Monday. Hopefully everyone that is off campus will have a good break and not get into too much trouble." she smiles at that. Her eyes do dart to a few teens that are known for pranks though. Giving them a more careful inspection.

Then back to her talking, "We have senior trip to prepare for when certain folks return. But we'll send out more details as the end of the year draws near. What I have to announce next is something that is going to be huge, so I will need everyone to let me finish before any throwing of rotten fruit or vegetables are done, everyone agree?" she seems to wait for a answer from the crowd for a moment.

Friday has posed:
A simple raising of one eyebrow makes the lady in the teacher's seating seem a bit confused. She lifts her eyes to the speaker, placing her own tablet into silent mode, and attends, but if the expression on her face is of any indication she's uncertain what to expect here as well.

Damian Wayne has posed:
Damian had his arms crossed while paying attention, but he did pull his book bag up into his lap and took out a tomato. He lets out a loud >tt< from his tongue as he put the tomato back into his book bag.

Colleen Wing has posed:
It was a good idea for her to get a look at the school as it is now.. before the big changes coming. The students will have to adjust, and she needs to sit down and figure out what kind of schedule this job will require for her. She pushes off the wall and holds herself in that 'ready but relaxed' stance so common to martial artists that just looks like someone standing to most people.

Albert Rothstein has posed:
Albert Rothstein 's brow raises seems he may have missed the Memo, but being part time it is not surprising. He looks over to Dr. Pym offering him a nod in greeting, but keeps silent as well.

Irie West has posed:
Irie nods at Viv. "Yeah. I met Dr. Pym the other day. He let me pet his emotional support ant!" She can't help but grin at the memory. She, then settles back to listen to Dr. MacIntyre but can't help but commenting, "Something huge? I wonder what it is."

Hank Pym has posed:
Hank Pym politely nods back to Albert Rothstein. He spots Vivian by her green hair easily enough. Do not acknowledge her, let her come to me. Oh, one of the Flashes found her. He returns his attention to the stage. Something big? He ponders what that big something could be.

Something big...

Vivian Vision has posed:
Vivian Vision sits with her hands tucked neatly in her lap. Subroutines of her mind idly firing up some games of chess and doing a little work on various science ongoing projects she's helping out with.

Keeping her voice low she notes "It could just be a prelude to a teacher joke about Pym particles?"

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
When there is no immediate booing, Morrigan continues, "As most of you know, or have gathered over the last year just by attending the school, we are not all normal everyday people. But our goal here at Happy Harbor is to provide as close to a normal everyday school and life experience to the teens that walk through the doors and for those that stay here with us." she explains. "Post Spring Break Happy Harbor High School will be going public." she delivers the news to the crowd.

"We will be known as a school where Mutants, Metahumans and any type of powered child or teenager can come and learn alongside regular non powered kids in a normal environment." she continues. "With that it means that we will be lifting some of the restrictions on power usage in the school. As always, we do not use our powers for negative actions. If there is something that needs to be settled or a fight, you come to your teachers or you come to me as the head of the school." she explains. "Non disruptive use of powers will be fine. Just don't try to pick up another kid and try to fly them to home room as if you drop them they could break something." she states as she looks over the crowd.

"Happy Harbor's emphasis is to be an inclusive and public environment for children who are powered to become a more accepted and integral part of society. Now while we won't be teaching children to control and use their powers, we will be able to step in should things go awry or troubles occur." she states.

"I'd like to note that we won't be making the identity of anyone public due to safety. Which...I will get to safety in a moment." she mentions. "I'm going to take a moment for this to sit in." she adds.

Albert Rothstein has posed:
Albert Rothstein 's brow raises but smiles a bit as he hears this. He knows what it is like growing up with powers, and having a place where you can be open about them would be a good thing.

Friday has posed:
Those who may have a view of the wonan-up-front's face would be able to tell. This, at least, was NOT a surprise to her. Perhaps it was in her contract, or discussed with her when applying for her job, but she shows no worry at what is stated on the podium.

Still, she raises a hand gently, a single finger up. Then lowers it, allowing Morrigan the option of choosing to allow her question or not. Really it's a matter of timing and politeness - one does not interrupt a speech, after all.

Colleen Wing has posed:
Colleen raises her chin a little. Now it all makes sense. The job advertisement. The somewhat secretive school being less secretive. A mix of gifted children and regular children. What a mess that'll be. She smirks a moment thinking about the difference between her student Ghost Spider and all her regular students who live in the neighbourhood. She might have to split it in to two classes.

Her arms slowly fold in front of her. The kinds of fights these kids could get in to would be.. epic. And kids find ways to get angry at each other. Sometimes they just wake up on the wrong side of the bed and want to bite someones head off. That might literally be possible for some of these kids. She's pretty sure this constitutes a 'hostile work environment'. She'll have to stay on her toes - how's that movie go? children are like the ocean, never turn your back on them?

Damian Wayne has posed:
Damian's face remains neutral past the whole big announcement. He was just a normal student, nothing at all exciting about him other than he is much more advanced than a normal fifteen year old. "So, the school's secret is not so secret anymore."

Irie West has posed:
Irie's eyes go wide at this announcement. "Cooooool." She still hasn't gone public with her powers, and she still hasn't really figured out what kind of cover story she's going to tell the other students that will explain her oddness. High on the list is still 'distant cousin from Canada'. She's been practicing her metric.

Hank Pym has posed:
Hank Pym has a bad moment wondering whether something big could be he, himself. He feels immense relief knowing that no, he will merely be dealing with immature people with super powers. That was the last decade of his life. He sighs very quietly and relaxes. He sends a few lagging ants back. //Go. Now.// Red ants were always difficult.

Vivian Vision has posed:
Well there's no time like the present for getting that initial 'you have powers' shock out of the way.

Which is why Vivian Vision drops her holographic disguise. Her 'natural' skin tone being pinkish red and her eyes glow golden. A few nearby students likely gasp in shock or murmur comments about how they always knew something was odd about her. She's making a fairly safe assumption she isn't gong to get in trouble even though the rule change comes into effect after the break.

"I suppose you will be able to commute to school a lot more openly now if you so choose," she asides to Irie. "And I will no longer feel as if I am deceiving my classmates all the time."

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
No one storms out immediately and no one throws anything at Morrigan, so this is good so far! "Let us take a question and then we'll go over safety with the new things going in place." she states. With that she points to Isabella, "You had a question?" she asks her with a smile.

Meanwhile there is a buzz of whispering and things about this. Some think it is cool as all get out! Because kids are far more accepting than adults most times.

Colleen Wing has posed:
Colleen raises an eyebrow slightly as Vivian changes colour scheme. Two years ago she'd have responded much more evidently - but after meeting a dragon and fighting a werewolf for a vampire her understanding of the world has expanded dramatically. It'd make sense that these aren't all kids who suddenly got powers but that some of them inherited a legacy from the more well known public faces.

Still the thought comes in to her mind. Just how much martial arts will the Principal want her to teach these kids? self defence to stay alive and escape? .. may be it'll simply depend on the child in question how much she shares. With a crowd this diverse, different class levels will be necessary. Some of these students might already be expert fighters.

Friday has posed:
Rising from her seat, the lady in question, with the question, seems to have a slight hitch on her right side. She smiles, then she bows her head a moment. Then she says, "A statement as much as a question, really. Hello, everyone."

She turns to look at the assembly, and her eyes widen as she finally sees Vivian. But she doesn't stop, merely acknowledges. "Well, yes. Forgive this, but I am to teach here, and given the statement by Ms MacIntyre, it should be noted. Not all of your teachers have powers. I am one of those who does not. May I be assumed, everyone, that even if I can not do magical seeming things, I can still teach and be attended to?"

She smiles, then shrugs gently. "A minor concern. Your teachers may also be a touch worried by this event. We are, many of us, merely human."

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan gives a look to Isabella as she speaks and there is a nod of understanding, "I was actually going to get to thoughts along those lines. No one needs to announce if they have powers or not. No one is going to be treated any differently." she explains. "We want to make sure that everyone is comfortable with this change. That's why it was decided to be done during break. That way people can take an extended amount of time to think on their place here and if they want to stay with things going public. If students, teachers or any of the aides have issues with the environment going forward and want to leave there won't be any malice or things of that nature." she points out.

"I should also point out that if we catch any students trying to bully teachers or students for whether they are powered or non powered then I'll speak with them and probably remove them from our shared space." she announces. "Hopefully that helps with answering that." she nods to Isabella. "A few more questions and then we'll get to security and things." she paints a smile back on for everyone.

Albert Rothstein has posed:
Albert Rothstein hmms, and thinks about this a bit, he may have to offer his aid for security if it is needed as well. He will need to talk to Morrigan later it seems.

Irie West has posed:
Irie grins when Viv shows her true colors, as it were. She leans over and whispers, "I like you looking like that better than your human guise." She leans back to listen to the rest of what the teachers have to say, pulling a lock of red hair and draping it across her upper lip kind of like a mustache.

Hank Pym has posed:
Hank Pym mms and takes his phone. After all, Vivian doesn't need to physically check her phone for a text. That stuff is all internal.

he texts quickly, at least in human terms.

//Vivian i want to respect your personal space, but I wanted to tell you that I am very proud of you. GGF.// He waits a moment.

//Pls don't share this. I would like to trade on my reputation as an SOB until at least June. <3<3<3 Hank//

Vivian Vision has posed:
Around the room a few holographic notes blink into existence. Generally in front of people murmuring things about Viv and all with either a politely worded apology or answers to whatever questions people might have been asking. Within reason anyway. Some questions probably don't deserve an answer.

"I think they are overreacting about students misusing powers," she notes quietly to Irie. "If we could be trusted to remain discreet all this time I think we can be trusted not to suddenly start terrorizing the teaching staff..."

She smiles at the kind words from Irie. "That's nice of you to say. I expect my holographs do not refresh fast enough for your eyes." One of her communications subroutines sends a response to Hank. //I am unsure what GGF means, but thank you.//

Friday has posed:
Ms Torres sits quietly. She doesn't comment, but the fact that students now have her pegged as one of 'those' teachers makes her smile internally. She needed to establish herself, and it appears that it's done. Being put into a category is perfect. So, she relaxes and takes a moment to consider what to teach.

Perhaps the students would like to learn about Peru...

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan lets out a breath that she didn't know that she was holding. This was the first time announcing anything close to this and she was preparing for the worst case...when they were recieving a good case scenario. "Thank you all for being understanding of the changes we are about to go through. We will not be announcing this until Spring Break is over, so we can get a few more details ironed out." she admits.

"Now as we go public this will open up students and faculty to possible threats." she states. "While that is something that we will be hoping to avoid, we also need to be prepared. Obviously if the school is attacked, we will work to get students to safety and those that will be caretaking them. My job first and foremost is to protect the school and those who call it home. Which is all of you." she explains. "More safety plans will be coming to light over the next few weeks. So please stay tuned to those." she offers.

"If no one has any questions, we will dismiss for the rest of the day." she offers with a bright smile.

Colleen Wing has posed:
This turned out to be far more intriguing than she had imagined it would be. Threats to a school full of powered students? well, this'll test her martial arts beyond all measure. Hopefully it won't ever come to that, but protecting the students will be important. She smiles and nods up to Morrigan in a 'good job' kind of way. Her face to face with the principal is going to be quite enlightening.

Irie West has posed:
Irie grins, and nearly vibrates with excitement. Which is something she can actually do, but is stopping herself. "This is so cool. I can't wait to see what everybody can do." She, then, frowns and pulls out a piece of paper that has her schedule and leans over to Viv. "Hey. Where's the Science Wing?"

Hank Pym has posed:
Hank Pym raises an eyebrow. Yes this will be interesting. The school will become a sort of super hero academy, like it or not. He gets up to leave before the rush almost bumping into Albert Rothstein. Well the guy's big. "Oh excuse me."
