Cast of Characters: Kassandra Pagonis, Gabby Kinney

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
Friday Night Brisket was a resounding success. Six briskets, beef ribs, baby back ribs, and some beef tenderloin were sliced and distributed to hungry staff, students, and teachers. Everyone seemed to love it and plans were made to do it again in April. Perhaps to celebrate the end of the easter season, or perhaps to celebrate some mutant holiday, or just as an excuse for people to get together and have a meal with their comrades. Most of the food was distributed but Kassandra was careful. Enough food for leftovers had been squirreled away and now, sitting on the counter in front of the oven, the good smell of smoked brisket and other smoked meats starts to waft through the house.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney wasn't around Friday night due to... things. Namely being out where she wasn't supposed to be, but such things weren't unheard of for her. Even if it was highly frowned upon. Back now, the smell in the kitchen lures her in from a mix of curiosity and hunger. It wasn't often such smells came from the kitchen though there usually was something good to be found.

Poking her head in through the door she peeks around as if she were skulking stealthily instead of just coming in like a normal person. "Soooo what's smelling so good?" She asks casually even as her green eyes dart around trying to find the source of the potential yum.

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
Gabby catches Kassandra crouched in front of the oven, peering in at the sheet tray she has her lovelies on, along with a giant package of those sweet rolls that come in the orange package from hawaii. She looks over at the black-haired girl when she talks and pops to her feet with a brilliant smile. "Gabby! I was hoping I'd see you! I have LEFTOVERS!" Which is an amazing thing in and of itself because getting leftovers of something that people really, really want to eat is kind of a big deal.

"Come come come!" Kassandra is apparently very happy to see the other woman and hurries over to the door and takes hold of Gabby's hands if she'll let them be taken hold of, Kassandra heading back into the kitchen. "There's plenty for both of us, and when I didn't see you friday night, I was afraid you wouldn't get any of this." She opens the oven and a wonderful, /wonderful/ smell emerges. Salt and pepper and meat and heat and all sorts of wonderful, lovely odors on the pan that Kassandra brings out. Almost a whole brisket. Four(!) beef ribs. Half a rack of Baby Back Ribs. All for her and Gabby.

They're gonna put on an eating display, ladies and gentlemen.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney allows herself to be pulled in with a little laugh at the eagerness of Kass. Usually she was the overly hyper one--It was an interesting change of pace. Plus the little grumble of her stomach made it obvious that whatever these leftovers were they would go to very good use. "It smells amazing! What is it?" She practically bounces on the balls of her feet when Kass goes back to the oven to pull out the display of delicacies only to grin widely when she sees them.

"Oh wow! I'm sorry I missed yesterday then but thank you for saving some! That smells and looks SO good, Kass!"

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
Setting the tray on the counter, followed by the rolls, Kassandra can't help but grin a little, looking to Gabby after a second. "Hopefully you're not having to heal up anything major. I mean...this is a /lot/ of food, but if you can eat it, let me grab my plate first and then the rest is all yours."

"Okay, from the left, that's brisket....lean stuff. Basically the brisket goes from about here to here on the cow's chest." She demonstrates by running a hand over her chest until about the breastbone. "The thicker stuff is fatty...it'll melt in your mouth and fill you up fast, but darn if it ain't worth it. The big ribs are beef ribs and the smaller ones are pork....and...well...yeah." She nods. "That's about it." A plate is offered with a grin. "Bon Appetit."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
With the description of what is what offered she listens with the studious attention of someone finding a topic they were really interested in. Dissection and eating of cows? Sure! The plate is accepted with a solemn nod. "I'mma try a bit of it all." And she's careful with her first round, just a bit of each. A pork rib, a beef rib, some of the brisket. Only after does she pause to lick her fingers clean. "So how are you getting on here so far? I mean it LOOKS like you're doing good..."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney shakes her head rather quickly at the question of healing. "No, I'm good. I haven't been hurt recently." Even though she says this she pauses to twist around and look down at herself as if checking to make sure where was a truthful statement. Satisfied that it is she snags one of the Kings Hawaiian sweet rolls to take a nibble while waiting for things to get split up. "I mean this is a lot even for me! But I'm totally willing to take on this challenge," she affirms with a gleeful glint in her eye.

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
The meat is divided up with about half still on the tray to be eaten later, two plates laden down. Two glass bottles of Mexican Coke (with 105% of the daily value of sugar required) are pulled from the fridge to drink, and the pair stand next to each other, eating and simply being together. It's a really nice change for Kassandra.

"I'm getting along pretty good, really...." Kassandra nibbles at the thick beef Rib, pulling off a sliver with her teeth, chewing and swallowing. "I mean...I've got a room. I've got /clothes/. I'm starting classes soon. It's all....amazing!" Kassandra smiles, looking out the window over the backyard. "And I'm learning how to use my powers. I'm making friends. It's....night and day."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney can only nod knowingly between bites as she hunkers down holding a beef rib between both hands. There's a lot of lip licking going on, but she does pause to reach for one of the Coke's to add to her caffeiene content in her blood stream. "Yeah, this place is pretty great. WAY better than the labs I grew up in. Even if they do make you go to school." It's here she pulls a face but it's not completely serious in spite of her complaining.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
"By the way, I never did get to hear what your powers are. Dish!" She gushes having picked up the term from some of the other kids, as well as the Real Housewives of New York that sometimes was on in the recroom.

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
"Ah, school isn't so bad here. I mean, it beats what came before with me." Kassandra glances over, clinking her coke against Gabby's. "No lab for me, but I was captured, drugged into a stupor, and my ability was used to put on a party to help distribute some kind of drug." She takes a sip. "So, yeah, it's complicated. I can go into the details but I really don't know very many of them." Yeah, there's probably a file out there somewhere that she'll find at some point, but for now she's kind of in the dark.

Swallowing her mouthful of King's Hawaiian roll, Kassandra starts to explain as best she can understand. "Okay, so. Living things, concious living things, right? They all put out some kind of echo into the universe that objects and places absorb. Like, say..." She holds up her bottle. "Give me some time with this and I can show...not just tell, show you...where it came from, who's hands it passed through to get here, and anything that happened around it. Ideally?' She takes a sip. "I want to show a concert to people. Like, Queen from Live Aid, or Daft Punk's Alive 2007 tour from the crowd. Entertain. I'd also like to be....dunno...." she shrugs. "Help find out the past for people. Like a detective that can look back and see the theft happening, or where the car went when it hit the other car. Stuff like that."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney nods here and there as she listens. Of course she doesn't quite understand it. That doesn't mean she doesn't pay attention as Kassandra tries to explain the details of how things work to her. A little corner of another Hawaiian roll is torn off to pop into her mouth with a thoughtful hum. "That's pretty awesome actually. That's way cooler than what I can do. I mean, I'm still pretty cool." At least she has no fear of having low self-esteem! Grinning again she nods once more. "Gonna have to show me sometime!"

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
"Well...." Kassandra swallows, looking over to Gabby. "I can after dinner, if you're really interested...."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney shrugs faintly in response to that. "Only if you want to. I don't wanna push you if you're not up for it." Her attention returns slightly to the brisket to nibble on with a few pleased noises of appreciation at the flavor. "Mmyeah. I guess I should tell you what I can do, too. Two things: I heal. A lot. And the other isn't a power, it's a... sciencey thing." Lifting her hand she taps the side of her head with a finger. "The lab put something in my head that blocks my pain receptors. So it's kind of cool, I can't feel pain, but it's dangerous too. I can't tell when I'm injured sometimes."

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
Kassandra shakes her head, nibbling, listening as Gabby explains what she can do and, more specifically, what she has had done to her. "It makes sense in a weird way - if you heal fast, hurting is just something that'll get in the way while you heal up. Lets you keep going while your body does its thing." She pushes her plate away, full now, of bread and meat and all the good things each one provides. "And I want to. I'm supposed to practice a little bit every day for a few minutes. Like running a half lap and building up to a full race."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney grins faintly. "Nah, they didn't know about the healing when they did it to me. That lab was just looking to create effective killers." For a moment she goes quiet. Not upset really so much as holding details back rather than blabbing them out all the time. Instead she looks over with a grin again once Kass has finished her meal. "Well then! What should we try out? I mean a soda bottle's kinda boring. Maybe we can snag something belonging to one of the teachers."

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
There's probably a long, convoluted story attached to that silence that would be super interesting and super tragic to learn, so Kassandra doesn't ask. She knows enough not to and, besides, she kind of wants to keep Gabby around as a friend. Asking about what she went through to get to this point isn't something you just do - you listen if it's offered up. You don't go digging. "It could really be just about anything. I mean....you name it and it legitimately can get something. I know Henry had a football helmet that showed him playing games, which was interesting, so I think if we do something from a teacher, we do something simple. Something mundane. I don't want to suddenly plunge us both into, like, a fight with Magneto or Darksied or something."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney considers that with a small frown. "Right. Right. With that in mind do not ever, and I mean *ever* try to use your power on anything of Illyana's. I mean." Her hand lifts to make a wibbly gesture. "She spent a lot of time not on Earth and not in a good place either. I've been there. It's not good. Demons and stuff." With that warning given she starts to look around the kitchen as if it would offer up some solution to this decision.

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
"With practice I'll be able to get an idea of what things are before projecting them but, right now, I pretty much can only tell the difference between intense and not so intense memories." Her plate is put in the dishwasher, cleaning up as she finishes, leaving a place better and without a mark as she was taught growing up. "Let's head up to my room and see if anything stands out. Nothing under glass, or alien-looking. A trophy, maybe. Or a christmas ornament. There are some boxes in my room of stuff that was stored there from before I showed up. We could dig through that and see if anything shows up interesting."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney cleans up her plate quickly but probably with a bit less table manners than Kass shows. She swipes off any bones into the trash and then deposits it in the dishwasher. Pre-washing? What's that? "Sure! That sounds good!" Just as she turns around her phone goes off in her pocket though. A little confused she pulls it out to stare at the screen a moment. "Oh, yeah I ... kind of forgot I've got to do a thing for a test coming up." Her weight rocks back and forth from one foot to the other before letting out a sigh. "Sorry, Kass. Another time?" With that she jogs off. "Thanks for dinner it was great!"
