Date of Scene: 17 March 2021
Location: A pub at the Gotham Convention Hall
Synopsis: Conversation over potato wedges leads to a possible date.
Cast of Characters: Dick Grayson, Sara Pezzini

Dick Grayson has posed:
Dick leads you through the center to one of the pubs that are a part of the convention center. This particular one is modeled after an old English pub, with dark wood paneling. Given it's theme, it actually isn't blaring loud music like most of the other watering holes in the convention center are tonight, making it a good place for conversation. He leads her over to a table and pulls out a chair for her, then sits himself, waving over a server. He orders two tap beers and sits back in his chair.

"So, now we can talk a little easier. Tell me a little about you.. what made you decide to become a cop?"

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Sara seems a little surprised that he pulled her chair out, it's not that she didn't accept him doing it, but more that he did it at all. Most often chivalry that like was dead, especially for someone like herself. She thanks him with a nod before sitting down to look the place over.

She doesn't have a specific type of place she prefers. Comfortable, warm, friendly atmosphere. Music not blaring, perhaps a game of darts or one of those little basketball machines. It didn't have to be fancy, just welcoming. This place fell into that catagory and a smile touches her lips.

"My father was a cop," she offers to Dick in answer to his question. "I was raised knowing what it was to serve in that capacity. I knew it's what I had to do as well, even though my mother would have preferred I do something else. It just... felt right."

Dick Grayson has posed:
He nods, knowing the feeling. Though he can't share, of course, being raised by the Batman instilled the exact same feelings in him. Dealing out justice just feels right. Of course, a great majority of his justice dealing is done outside of the badge, but the idea remains the same. For that matter, it's why he decided to become a cop instead of just playing idle rich kid like he easily could have.

"I can understand that. I didn't have police in the family, but I lost my real family to crime, and it kind of pushed me to become a cop when I grew up, to help make sure that didn't happen to anyone else if I could help prevent it."

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Waiting for the waitress to make her way over, Sara orders one of those lovely pub side dishes that are always on the menu. She already has coffee, and alcohol is right out, so why not nibble?

"I was actually going to ask you what pushed you toward the force. You could have done anything you wanted, quite literally." She grins a little, taking a sip of her coffee. "But I'm glad you choose police work. We need more dedicated people who are in the work for the true reasons, and not just a badge and a gun."

Dick Grayson has posed:
"Yeah, well, that is true. I didn't actually have to do anything at all, could be one of those idle rich kids. It just didn't feel right though. I mean, Bruce works with Wayne Enterprises, charities, social clubs, all sorts of things even though he doesn't have to, so it didn't feel right to do nothing. So when police work called to me, that's where I concentrated my studies."

He shrugs a little, "I just can't really see myself doing anything else. But to turn things back to you, do you have a specialty like homicide, or are you a standard "Whatever case comes my way' detective?"

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Sara lifts a brow as a smile plays across her lips, "If you get to ask onek a question, I get to ask one well. So to answer your question... I'm only a junior detective, so right now I have no specialty. I was pretty young to have reached detective at all, so they wanted to ensure I got some good training in the general field before I went into a specialty."

Taking another sip of her coffee, she eyes the beer. "Don't mean to be rude, but I can't have alcohol right now. Still on a couple of medications that don't mix well." That explained, because she doesn't want to be rude, she continues. "I've considered homicide, as well as narcotics, but so far I haven't decided on one specifically."

Dick Grayson has posed:
Dick waves away her explanation, "Nothing to worry about, if I don't drink it I'm fairly sure there might be a cop around who will." He nods, "I didn't think you looked all that old, so good for you. You must be good at your job then, and there's nothing wrong with getting experience. I haven't specialized either, mainly because I like the variety of cases I get this way."

He looks over at her and smiles. A kindred spirit it seems, always nice to meet someone who shares your outlook on the important things. Why not test that outlook a little? "So, got another question, then I promise I'll answer yours. What are your thoughts on the various costumed folk who give us a hand from time to time?"

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Again that brow raises as Sara looks at him, a hint of a chuckle at the question and his excuse to slipping in another one before her. "In the beginning I'll admit I had a problem with them, at least the vigilante types. Here I am walking a beat and some costumed crusader swoops in and does my job for me, without the law behind him." She shrugs a little and takes another sip of her coffee

The plate of potato wedges smothered in all kinds of toppings arrives to the table, and she slides it to the middle to share as she continues talking. "Now though, that I've seen first hand how effective they are, even without the law backing some of them, I'd like to go shake their hands and thank them for risking their necks. It won't stop me from doing my job, but it does make it a little easier knowing I'm not completely alone out there."

Taking a fork, she cuts the end off one of the wedges and stabs it, then blows on it a little before letting it linger there a bit to cool. "I assume you asked that question for a reason. What do you think about them? The costumes might be a bit dorky, I'll add that, but other than that..." She grins.

Dick Grayson has posed:
He shrugs, "Well, given what city this is, I think you know who I deal with. And to be honest.. thank goodness for him and his friends. There's guys out there that you and I as regular cops are simply not equipped to deal with. It's unfortunate, but it's the simple truth. A regular police detective does not just walk up to and arrest the Joker. Hell, most SWAT teams couldn't successfully arrest that psycho. Batman, he's ok in my book. And the outfit isn't even dorky, he's got some pretty good intimidation going."

He considers her for a moment as he steals a potato wedge from the plate, "Now in New York, you've got a little more variety then we do. Have you dealt with any of them in particular? Or just kind of see them in general?"

Sara Pezzini has posed:
That bite of potato wedge disappears into Sara's mouth and she smiles. They're done just right, without too much of any one thing smothering it. Once she has finished the bite, she wipes her mouth with a napkin.

"I haven't come across any specifically. I have seen a few at 'work' from a distance, one of those, "Hey there's shit going on over there, look it's Captain America over there" sort of things, but mostly it's been normal status quo for me. However, that could also be wrong..." she pauses there, chewing a touch at her bottom lip. "There is a lot of the last year of my life that I don't remember, nor can I tell you how the injury that caused that problem came about. I remember my job, I know who I am, I remember faces and know they are friend or foe, but there are holes in the information."

Dick Grayson has posed:
His eyes go to the bruise on her forehead and he nods, "Head wounds can be nasty, I've seen it before. I know it probably doesn't feel like it, but you can actually count yourself lucky you're only missing a year. Plus, sometimes those things come back over time, so it's just a matter of seeing how things go."

He thinks for a minute, then adds, "I can also check to see if Wayne Enterprises is working on any memory therapies. Never know what the R&D folks might be coming up with. We might be able to help you out." Another bite of potato wedge is consumed before he adds, "You know, this is nice. Most of the women I meet are, well.. boring. You know, society types, the idle rich I mentioned not wanting to be. It's nice spending time with someone I can actually talk to."

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Sara nods along about the head wound, "Yeah appears to be just about a year, maybe little less. Angelo, he's a friend, or at last I remember him being a friend, seems to think it's about that long. It's just weird what I can remember and what I can't. Like," she pauses for a drink of her coffee. "I know how to fire a gun, I'm still a great shot, I remember training with the gun, I remember every little detail about my gun. But Angelo? I remember only that he's a someone I was friends with, that he is kind. Nothing else, not even what he does for a living."

Another bite of potato wedge is devoured and then she laughs. "Idle rich bit... people." She stops herself from insulting his peers. "Those have to get boring. I know nothing about their world, but I'm certain it involves their hair, the clothing, their pet poodles, and broken nails." Well clearly she has a high view of society women.

Dick Grayson has posed:
Dick Grayson shrugs, "The brain is still largely mysterious to us. Why does one person have a photographic memory and another doesn't? Why is one person smarter than another? Some people take repeated blows to the head and nothing ever comes of it, others lose pieces of their lives like you did. At least you kept your skills, the rest can be relearned if it doesn't come to you."

He smiles at her opinion of society women, since it rather closely matches his own. "Yeah, they don't have a lot to contribute to a conversation in general. About all they're good for is being arm candy to events I have to attend for one reason or another. Doesn't make for terribly interesting evenings, but what can you do?"

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Sara Pezzini grins broadly, eyes sparkling. "You can avoid them entirely by finding more entertaining dates to be arm candy for these events, but who can hold a conversation about the fire rate of the newest police issue hand guns, which I do remember thankfully."

That was quite enough of that Sara Pezzini! You don't need to go flirting with Dick Grayson, he has far better choices to select from.

Clearing her throat a little she adds, "I'm sure there are a number of lovely officers at your precinct who would enjoy a night out."

Dick Grayson has posed:
An eyebrow raises slightly and he grins at her, "Well, I suppose there may be one or two, but why would I bother to go searching when I already have a perfectly lovely officer sharing potato wedges with me? That is, if it wouldn't be too awful for you to occasionally get dragged into a few society parties and the like. I know dining and dancing is a bit cliche, but when you're doing it with someone you like, it's almost tolerable."

He takes a sip of his beer, then barely looking, picks up the other and adds it to the tray of a group of officers headed to the back of the bar. "So, what do you say? I know it's an imposition and all, but would it be alright if I called you now and then?"

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Sara was totally not expecting that. It was a harmless little flirt, a riskly little flirt and it seems to pay off in a way she had no idea would happen.

"Teach me how to use this," Sara says with a smile while holding up the nifty gadget computer he gave her. "And you can call me for dining and dancing any time you'd like.... okay, that sounded a little like whoring myself out." She facepalms. "Yes, you can call me," she says through her hand.

Dick Grayson has posed:
He's got a good laugh, full and rich. And you can tell it's not at you, just at the situation. "You're cute when you blush, did you know that? It's ok, I understand what you meant. I will be more than happy to help you set it up, now or later, whichever you prefer. But to call you, I believe I would need your number."

He pulls back the sleeve of his jacket, and wouldn't you know.. he's got one of the things on his wrist. He shrugs a little and says, "Prototype... it helps when your dad owns the company." He addresses the computer on his wrist, "Oracle, store a phone number." He looks at you and gestures at you to provide said number.

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Sara hmms softly, attempting to play off that she just tried to whore herself for technology by being coy... she's not good at it, so she just gives him her number. "I expect I'll see you again during the convention, perhaps we'll get together again for coffee to talk about some of the panels and seminars."
