A Parade of Happiness
Date of Scene: 17 March 2020
Location: St. Luke's Hospital
Synopsis: Alanna, Mike, and several volunteers from Shaw Studios bring gifts to the Children's Ward of St. Luke's
Cast of Characters: Alanna Lyons, Michael Hannigan

Alanna Lyons has posed:
It's always weird leaving the house in a costume. Regardless of if you're a costumed superhero or someone on Halloween, there is a strange sensation of being watched. Alanna is certainly aware of this as she steps into the lobby of lobby of St. Luke's.

The theme was 'the universe', tying in to a space-themed program that had kids coloring in planets and learning some science about how far away things were from Earth. Mostly it was a lot of glitter. It was always glitter.

Alanna's dressed in a galaxy print fabric dress with plenty of sparkles along it for the stars, complete with a headpiece that looks like a little mobile with planets coming off of it. If she were more of a redhead instead of auburn, she might have a bit of a Ms. Frizzle vibe going on.

Michael Hannigan has posed:
There had been talk about a gathering for the children's ward of St. Luke's again and being one of Nick Drago's 'biggest' little fan had called them there once before, he couldn't resist a repeat visit.

His attire is changed considerably since last time. He's still got the smallish but well groomed beard and the short hair in place. Alebit a stark contrast to how he's typically seen, but kind of a necessity with his upcoming role. But to add to it, he's wearing a bluish jumpsuit with little patches on it. In place of an actual space mission badge, ther's a patch of a moon, with the word 'Hope' orbiting around it.

Because what better way to explore the universe than to be one of the ones that traverses it?

Mike along with several other like dressed people from Shaw Studios are carrying along similarly patched up bags each stuffed with gifts. Considering the shorthand nature of the get together, it is an impressive turnout.

Alanna Lyons has posed:
It was a nice cluster of people. Alanna seems pleased, her own bag of gifts hefted as she congregates with the rest of those dressed up. "I think they said there were two hallways with those who couldn't leave bed and then sort of a multi-purpose room at the end of the hall that would have the majority of them," she comments to those she's standing closest to.

Eventually, a nurse waves them in that direction.

Michael Hannigan has posed:
Nick nods, hefting up his package to let the Miss Lyzzle lead the way. Recognizing the nurse, he gives her a smile and a slight nod in greeting before setting back in.

The hall they are led to has a bank of windows to one side, allowing for some sunlight to refract off the brightly painted walls, giving a bit of a heavenly glow. Seeminly suitable for several astronauts following after the planets.

His pace does falter a little outside of one of the closed doors they pass. His glance looking to it curiously.

Alanna Lyons has posed:
"Got a soft spot for one of the kids?"

Alanna stops in her pace as everyone makes their way through. "I find it hard not to get attached." She knows that it's a dangerous hobby to have, but it's inevitable. "It's good to see them happy, though." Certainly worth the emotional payment later. "If there was someone in particular you wanted to see, pretty sure the nurse would let you in."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
Nick turns his head to look to Alanna, stopping, "I was here about a couple weeks ago for a Make a Wish thing." He glances to the door, "But it wasn't him. I don't think he'd even know who I was being he's-." He pauses, looking to the group gaining some distance, "We're getting left behind."

Alanna Lyons has posed:
Alanna's gaze goes from the door to where the group is. "We'll catch up if we have to." She shrugs a bit. "Sometimes the healing's not always for them. You go in and make them happy, but they give something back, I've found. If you can find that kid again, regardless of if they'd remember you... it'll mean something. So if you want to find this kid, do it."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
"No, I mean-" Mike shakes his head, bringing two fingers to press against his temple as he closes his eyes, "The make a wish kid is in another room and she's probably still there. Bouncy as ever and he's- not."

He pauses, looking to Alanna, "I'll see about checking up on him after we're done. He's resting now. I don't want to interrupt that."

Alanna Lyons has posed:
"Good call," Alanna offers. She's not sure what other advice she can offer there, so instead she moves forward to head in the direction of the larger room where most of the kids are. She glances over her shoulder for a second to see if he's following, but doesn't pause again.

Michael Hannigan has posed:
Mike is following but decidedly slower for a few more steps before picking up the pace again. With each step his expression shifts, building up into a smile which ends up getting shared to the larger room of kids.

Not all of the kids here are overnighters, some just here for a sizable chunk of the day and the main room reflects that, the majority of the space more for sitting and playing than anything else.

"Nick!"

Nick turns his head, looking to a couple of the long-timers who had been there a few weeks back

"Hey guys!" Nick greets back, moving over to them first with a bit more energy than what was shown in the hallway. Drago is on the call.

Alanna Lyons has posed:
Alanna sneaks a little smile as the kids' excitement grows. She heads over to a small cluster herself--she's not known, but she's good with them. Enough to bring out some smiles and laughter in the middle of everything. She dips her head, giving the kids the chance to play with the galaxy headpiece, eventually even removing it and putting it atop one of them.

The headpiece turns into a game of learning how to take turns.

Michael Hannigan has posed:
Nick doesn't have anything really for the kids to fight over, not counting anything in the pack that he's crouched down in front of.

"Did you bring your guitar again?"

"Ah no, man." Nick replies apologetically, "But you see all the astronauts floating around in this room? They're all stars too."

He points over to a short haired older blonde man who is chatting with a few more kids, "That one over there is Wade Shaw. He was a bassist for Silver Round and he's played in each of my albums too."

He turns, pointing to another one, "And that there is Geena Wae. Great on guitar. Her group toured last year with Boston Zombie."

"Boston Zombie?!"

Alanna Lyons has posed:
Alanna's mostly supervising that the planetary headband doesn't cause a planetary war. She's unable to hide the smile she gets at the kids' excitement as they seem abuzz over the 'stars' in the room. Straightening up, she glances over with a wry smile. "I can see why you're the popular one with the Make A Wish stuff. I think you've turned the cool factor up a notch. You do this stuff a lot?"

Michael Hannigan has posed:
As the regulars go wander off to go talk to Geena Wae about what it was like to hang out with Boston Zombie, Mike starts to stand up, lifting the pack up, sans a few gifts.

He turns, looking over towards Alanna, returning the smile. "If they ask, I try my best to accomodate." He nods towards Wade, "It helps when you're tied to a studio that's all for this stuff as well. Around Christmas time, Shaw Studios does a toy drive for the local shelters as well. We were talking about the possibility of a holiday compilation album project as a type of fundraiser too."

He glances around, eyes zeroing in on one of the kids hanging out near the corner and starts to walk over to her, crouching down to her height to greet her.

Alanna Lyons has posed:
"Yeah, it's been a while since I got to do one of these. Kind of nice to get back around to it, I forgot how nice it is to..." Alanna trails off, not really finding the need to explain. She glances towards her bag of toys, taking a moment to sort through it a bit to look for a particular gift.

Michael Hannigan has posed:
Mike lowers his voice, trying to match her volume in response. He reaches into his bag, tugging out a Nyan cat plushie, offering it to the girl. As the girl hugs the plushie, he smiles, standing back up to walk over to Alanna.

"The hard part is knowing when to stop." Mike comments, watching as Wade has gotten several of the kids to try moon walking.

Alanna Lyons has posed:
Alanna sorts through her bag a bit, glancing back over to Mike. "What, when to stop for them or when to stop for you?" She gives a bit of a shrug. "And who says you have to? Why stop giving back to people who deserve a little kindness in their lives? Make up for the things the world has taken from them."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
The smile upon Mike's face was already present, but the side of his lips quirks up a bit more to her response. "Self Care." He clarifies "Is giving the world the best of you, not what is left of you."

He looks to the kids in the room, either occupied with the other astronauts or with their chosen toys. "I have difficulty remembering that at times too."

He looks into the bag. "I believe there are more rooms to visit."

Alanna Lyons has posed:
"See, that's the secret," Alanna grins, shifting her bag as she moves towards the exit to the room. "/This/ is the self care. You don't do this kind of thing until you're exhausted because you need to give everything you have. You do this because it makes you feel alive. Less giving back, more sharing." She looks towards the row of rooms down the hall.

Michael Hannigan has posed:
It is overall a pretty good success of an outing. The kids were happy, they each got a toy and they do eventually make their rounds. The little girl responsible for Nick's last visit seemed happy for a repeat visit. Even if the beard was still there, it didn't change her choice in name for the stuffed dragon she picked from the bag.

And eventually they make it back towards the door Nick stopped at earlier. Only for the nurse to lead them past it.

Alanna Lyons has posed:
As they pass by the room for a second, Alanna almost stops. "I though that you wanted to..." She seems confused, looking between the door and Nick. She doesn't really want to push for anything, but at the same time he did seem rather conflicted. She flashes him a smile. "I mean, if not..."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
The musician turns his head looking to Alanna as Nick stops. Looking to the nurse. "We missed one."

The nurse turns, frowning as she's called out on the omission. "He won't be able to enjoy your any of your gifts, I'm afraid, Mr. Drago." She cautions, turning to open the door, granting the group access while still maintaining watch over them.

It is a private room. Quieter than one would expect for a child's room save for the beeps of the machine as the child lies there in long slumber.

Alanna Lyons has posed:
Alanna slips into the room, approaching gently in the way one would tiptoing into the room of someone lightly dozing. She steps out of the way, glancing towards Nick. Her gaze flickers between the child's bed and him, as if trying to make a determination. "It's just as much for him as it is for you," she says, simply. "Self care."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
As Alanna looks to the child it becomes clear that had she come in here screaming and stomping her feet, it would have made no difference.

Nick sighs, reaching into his bag to pull out another stuffed dragon. He walks over towards the child and sets it down on the bed, resting in the crook of the arm that wasn't wired up. Perhaps, if one sat down and slouched back, it could even look like the boy was holding it.

The musician looks the child over quietly, eyes closing in a silent meditation before his frown deepens. Eyes opening, pale eyes look towards the nurse. "Would it be alright if I sat with him for a few minutes...say a few prayers for him?"

Alanna Lyons has posed:
Alanna looks between the musician and the child, and then to the nurse. "I certainly doubt anyone would have a problem with that." She pauses after a moment of thought. "Is this the kind of thing you're hoping to be alone for? I can leave if that's..." She trails off.

Michael Hannigan has posed:
The nurse sighs. "Its aga-" She pauses, looking to Alanna, "Ok."

Taking the pause as permission, Nick draws the chiair up. "Yes. Alone would be better."
