Another goodbye
Date of Scene: 22 March 2021
Location: Avengers Mansion - Back Yard
Synopsis: Targets were shot, Clint tells Wanda he's off again.
Cast of Characters: Clint Barton, Wanda Maximoff

Clint Barton has posed:
Clint has various targets set up around the backyard. He's actually in his combat outfit today, black and purple with ballistic plates to protect vital areas. His quiver is on his back and his Stark designed bow is in his hand. He's pacing around the patio area, occasionally reaching up to grab an arrow and snap a shot off at one of the distant targets.

When Wanda comes out into the yard, he looks over with a smile and hits the button to compact the bow down, dropping it into a sheath on his leg. He walks over reaching a hand out to her, "Hi Wanda, I'm glad you're here. I need to talk to you."

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
It's been a lovely couple of days. The sun's been shining, the windows of the mansion have been opened to let the stale air out and the fresh in, which can do wonders for moods. With the slow departure of the cold, and the warming for spring, Wanda's finding herself outside and settling into a lawn chair with a blanket (just to keep out the chills borne of inactivity) and a cup of tea.

The shifting from indoor targets to outdoor hasn't escaped the witch's notice, and once again she emerges from the mansion, blanket and tea in one hand, coffee in the other. She's got a lighter weight shirt on, jeans with her tennis shoes, and her hair pulled back in a messy pony tail. She looks.. lighter. Balanced. She has been for about a week, and the forays out to get fresh items for dinners haven't been marred by strangeness or anomalies.

Wanda slows her walk, however, setting her blanket and tea down but still holding the coffee, the smile in potentially catching the archer in practice slipping slightly as she's greeted with a 'I need to talk to you'.

That's never bad, right?

Wanda recovers easily enough, though the smile is gone, replaced with a touch of concern. She reaches for the outstretched hand with her empty one and offers up the coffee.

"Is everything okay?" Immediately thoughts go to his safety, followed by a flicker of resolve, "What can I do?"

Clint Barton has posed:
He takes the offered hand first, then the coffee. The cup is put down on a nearby table and he pulls her in for a quick hug and kiss. After the kiss he leans his head against hers and chuckles ruefully. "Well, that was just smooth. I'm on a roll already." His arms tighten around her in another hug, then he raises his head to look into her eyes.

"I'd say let's start over, but I know I've already put you on guard, so I won't bother. The fact is, I have a mission, so I have to leave soon. And what you can do for me is try not to stress too much. I'll be back before you know it."

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Hugs can solve all the world's problems, and if not, at least it solves Wanda's for the moment. It's not a tense-filled embrace; it's the same warm feeling, as if she could just fall into it and remain there while time passes by. The kiss, the same, though at the end, she lays one more light brushed kiss before resting her cheek briefly on his chest. A soft breath escapes, sounding very much like a chuckle as she rocks her head up, green eyes showing that fond amusement as Clint tries to find his footing once more.

It's one of the things she likes about him. The moments of awkwardness. He's so good, one of the best if not //the// best archer in the world, and still.. here, on the ground, there's the very.. adorkable manner when no one is around.

Her lips press together, bringing a slight wrinkle to her nose before she nods, "Mmmhmm..". There's the pause before, "I can let you start again, but.."

Clint does continue, and Wanda listens carefully, both to words and cadence. At the end, there's a breath of resignation that exits the slight woman, and she nods, a game smile crossing her face.

"At least there is no note," is observed softly. "I think this is first time you have given warning." It's not an accusation, not a castigation, nothing like that. Simply, a recollection of the last almost year.

"Will you promise to call if you need me?" Wanda knows better than to ask to go along. If she hasn't heard it through Avengers line, it has to be something else...

"Please?" Does she even need to tell him that she //can// find him?

Clint Barton has posed:
Clint smiles, just giving a little internal wince at the mention of notes. Yeah, he's learned at least better than that. He shrugs a little, "No, no note this time. We won't be repeating that unless a Quinjet lands in the backyard with Fury yelling at me to get in." He chuckles a little at the mental picture, not least because it's happened before.

He slips an arm around her waist and walks her to the table, pulling out a chair for her before sitting in another next to her. Once all is settled, he reclaims one of her hands. "I promise, but this should be just a quick in and out. With just a little luck, I'll be back in two, maybe three days. Anything longer, I'll let you know." He knows the SHIELD stuff is hard on her, he can't really talk about it, yet he has to leave her with little to no notice or knowledge of how long he'll be gone. "I wish I could bring you with me."

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
While Wanda hasn't met the (in)famous Nick Fury, she indeed has heard stories, and not just from Clint. Her dealings with SHIELD, however, are decidedly tangential, and she prefers to keep it that way. "I would see jet," she agrees easily. "And I would know." Would she stop him?

No. This is indeed their lives.

Wanda lets herself be led, taking up the blanket along the way to ward off inactivity chill. Settling herself in the proffered chair, his hand is retaken for that contact.

"Quick in and out," she repeats. "Is never that easy," is gently warned, her gaze not falling from Clint's blues. "So I will not hold you to time." Still, she'll be watching, listening, searching for that distinct //feeling// that is the archer.

Wanda offers a smile, again, it's a game one, and she nods, her head and hair bobbing with the gesture. "You know I would go. But if I cannot, then I will wait. Perhaps Pietro and I will go to Genosha to see the island." There's a lot of work to be done there, rebuilding the place for mutants.

"If I think you are in danger, I will come for you." Her definition of 'danger', of course, is very closely allied with Clint's. Combat, nah.. it's the //mortal// danger that she'll respond to. That 'I feel a disturbance in the force' sort..

Clint Barton has posed:
This is something he's used to, Wanda's feelings driving her to take steps that perhaps she shouldn't. And he knows exactly how much good it would do to try and tell her not to, so instead he just nods, "I trust you. If it's that bad, I imagine I wouldn't mind the help. I'm not quite ready to kick off just yet." He takes a moment to sip his coffee.

Genosha.. that was a hell of a mess. And still no solid info on what actually happened in the first place. "It couldn't hurt to take a look at things there, maybe get an idea of some of the things they need. Maybe we can get Stark to dedicate some more funding or something."

He looks back over at her, "Hey, you don't know. Maybe for once things will actually go to plan and it'll be quick." He chuckles, "But you're probably right, we just don't get that lucky."

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda most certainly is an emotional creature. She really can't help it, even if she doesn't have the least bit of understanding //why//, other than the rough life she's led up until her time with the Avengers in the last couple of years. Of course, she does have that Eastern European voice in the back of her head telling her that a shoe will INDEED drop, and all of this can and will be gone in the blink of an eye. But that is completely different than being one where the health of the world is reflected through her thoughts, and potentially through her magic.

There's a reason she struggles for balance. Wanda Maximoff, Nexus Being. And she doesn't even know it.

Her smile rises in the suggestions offered for Genosha. She can't do it alone, which is why she does mention it. Nodding slowly, the wistful smile turns more fond, more affectionate again as they talk of 'normal' matters. "Perhaps Stark can, yes. I will ask him when I see him."

The fact that things may actually work out in their favor, though? Wanda gives Clint's hand a quick squeeze. "If there is trouble," and he knows when that'd be, right? "Say my name. I will hear you.. just like I hear my brother. I will come.."

She settles once more, ready to spend a few hours in the warmth with Clint, all the important things have been 'discussed' as far as she's concerned. "And when you return, will you give me lessons again with your bow? In return, I will teach you how to make proper goulash."

Clint Barton has posed:
Clint pauses as a distant whine starts to build over the mansion, then a Quinjet comes into sight, angling to land in the backyard. Clint sighs and stands, using his hold on Wanda's hand to pull her close. His arms slip around her again and he leans in to kiss her deeply, letting it linger as the jet lands behind them. Finally, he let's the kiss fade, looks into her eyes and says, "I'll be careful, and I'll be back as soon as I can." Another squeeze, then he lets her go, sighs, and walks to the Quinjet, climbing up the ramp as it lifts off again.
