Synopsis: Bobby meets Joshua on the back steps of the Xavier mansion and talk turns to how one teachers people with unique and rare powers.
Cast of Characters: Bobby Drake, Joshua Foley

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby is on break from classes at Empire State and has found himself at loose ends. Resolving /not/ to spend his entire break with his nose in his books anyway, he sits outside on the back steps of the mansion with a bottle in hand, occasionally sipping from it as he enjoys the early spring evening. There's still a bit of a chill in the air, but there's no more snow, no ice on the ground. Not that the chill bothers him at all. He's dressed in a comfortable pair of jeans, faded grey tennis shoes, and a grey lightweight sweater.

Joshua Foley has posed:
Honestly Josh is still trying to adjust to the whole living here at Xaviers.

It was a long stressful week last week.

He finds himself heading back to the back yard just to try to get some air and get his thoughts together. The room he has ... well it is very empty since he never got to go get his stuff from house. So at least the yard he figured won't be as depressive as that.

Yeah chilly... but above freezing. He stuffs his hands into his hoodie's pockets and looks around then down to Bobby. "Oh I didnt know we had..." peers "oh rootbeer.."

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby glances up when he hears someone come up behind him, looking over his shoulder to notice Josh standing there. He offers him a little grin and then glances down at the bottle. "Yeah. IBC. There's some in the fridge at the back if you want one." He lifts the bottle and takes another sip from it before balancing his elbows on his knees and letting it dangle between them. "You're... the new guy, right? Just moved in?" He hasn't heard much of anything about Josh, but knows someone new had come in recently.

Joshua Foley has posed:
Josh kind of braces, it is a subconcious thing when Bobby fishes around and then says new guy. Cause well okay that isn't a bad reaction so it must be the track that people don't see to be throwing him under the bus about how he got here.

Josh nods "Yeah.. last week... got out of the nurses office like Thursday and got a room over the weekend." he rolls his shoulders shrugging. "Very new. What grade are you in?" pause "Oh my name is Josh."

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby has literally no idea how Josh came to be at the mansion, but that's likely because a) he hasn't asked, b) he's been in NYC for most of the week and just got back not too long ago, and c) doesn't generally pry unless he really feels the need to. He gives an up-nod when Josh gives his name and says, "Hey, Josh. I'm Bobby." He grins. "I'm a senior at Empire State. Graduating this May. I also teach here at the school part time. Will be doing more of that once I finally graduate." He smiles and nods toward the steps, offering a seat if Josh wants to take one. "How you finding it? Settling in alright?"

Joshua Foley has posed:
Josh considers going getting a rootbeer but that involves walking to the kitchen and rooting around. That is way too much work. He settles down onto the top step and looks around the yard now.

"Huh.. didn't know we had college kids here." that is interesting, then again why wouldn't they have people since it seems to be a mutant community. "Unpacking was easy... don't own anything." dark humor in his tone. "So what are you going to college for?"

Bobby Drake has posed:
"I grew up here, pretty much," he tells Joshua. "I was a kid when I came to live at the mansion." Then he takes another sip from his bottle before setting the empty down next to his foot to remember to take it back in with him. He then folds his hands in front of him, just leaning against his knees. "Just kind of stuck after that." He tilts his head a little bit and then asks, "Nothing? We'll fix that then. Should get you some stuff for your room, at least." He gives an easy grin. "Me? Mathematics. It was Accounting but.. I decided to go into teaching instead of becoming a CPA."

Joshua Foley has posed:
"I got disowned over a phone call so I got my cellphone with no service and some Xavier clothes right now.. oh and a hoodie... I guess I could try to go get my stuff but I'm not sure that my dad would open the door." he considers. "I think they just need to calm down and then it will probably be okay... I mean.. they gotta."

He blinks "Mathmatics.. you must be pretty smart. The accounting thing though it is pretty ... well accounting sounds like you need a red stapler and an office in the basement."

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby frowns a bit at that and says, "Shit, man, I'm sorry. Hey, if you need someone to go over with you so that you can get your stuff sometime, let me know. I'll totally go and help, even if it's just to stand there and be support. And carry any boxes, that sorta thing." He smiles a bit faintly. "I kinda know how that goes. My folks freaked." He laughs a little then and says, "I mean, I like to think I'm doing alright." Then he shakes his head, "I don't know. There's something about numbers, everything adding up, being clear and organized, everything accounted for, balanced. I think that's one of the things I like about numbers. There's right and wrong answers which is sort of a nice balance to the chaos that is life. I don't know. It had its appeal for a while, but I'm just not feeling it like I was when I took it up."

Joshua Foley has posed:
Josh thinks aout that then rubs his face there. "Look. My friends told them... uh.. my ex best friend told them I was a mutant after he beat me unconcious." he looks healthy and fine. "And he ... is running with a group called the Reavers I guess.. Donald Pierce leads it.. and my folks are not ..you know freaked they kinda really hate mutants..." he just trails off.

"Not sure going over even with you would be.. effective. We would need to like just ..teleport my shit out because yeah they won't be opening the door."

"Numbers are cool.. I'm not good at them... but accounting." he grins sidelong.

Bobby Drake has posed:
"Oh," Bobby says. Well, that's a good deal more complicated. "Okay so.. yeah, that's a little more than freaked out. Shit, I'm sorry." And he does look genuinely sorry. "I'm afraid teleporting really isn't in my skillset. Not that there aren't things I could do, but I'm not sure obvious breaking and entering is a good idea. Could probably find someone else to help, though." He runs his fingers through his hair, pushing it back from his forehead. "In the meantime, though, we'll just get you some new stuff. I know that doesn't.. really help with stuff that has meaning but.." he trails off. Then he grins a little at that grin and shrugs his shoulders. "Yeah yeah, I'm a huge nerd. I get it."

Joshua Foley has posed:
"I was kidding about the..teleporting stuff... wait there are people here who could probably do that?" he considers "I would really like some of my clothes and my laptop." pause "Tho it is probably all replacable like you said..."

"Still I am pretty sure they will calm down... it's only been a couple days... maybe I'll write them a letter... hard to ignore that..."

He blinks "So... what..." pause "Is it rude to ask what you do.. besides math?"

Bobby Drake has posed:
"I mean, yeah, there are people who can teleport. There's stuff I could do, feasibly -- pull a whole santa clause down the chimney type thing, open up a window from inside, get your stuff out that way. I try to avoid breaking an entering though as a first-choice option," Bobby says with a little bit of a lopsided grin. "If it comes down to it, though, or if you've got something you really need that you want out of there, I could give it a shot. But yeah, giving it a little time and writing isn't a bad first step. You could always just ask them to put your stuff in a box on the lawn if it comes down to that. Kind of crappy, but .." He then raises a brow and grins, "You mean, what's my mutant ability?"

Joshua Foley has posed:
"Huh. Teleporting." he considers this. "Wait... uh yeah that is exactly what I meant ..." he blinks a couple of times there and looks sidelong to Bobby.

"Is your power those of Santa Clause .. is Santa Clause a mutant?"

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby laughs and then shakes his head, "No, my powers have a lot to do with ice and water, but primarily ice. I can turn into it, create it, travel using it, make weapons out of it. It's pretty useful. But I can also travel through water and do some pretty cool things with that, too." He then asks, "What about you? What do you do?"

Joshua Foley has posed:
"Huh.. so you can turn into water and ice..." he is clearly struggling with the whole what use that is, but then he hasn't seen you in action. "So you ... what kind of weapons and ice?" yeah okay sure he is quite curious.

"Oh.. me... uh I just can heal people." he shrugs a bit.

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby holds out his hand in front of him and then suddenly his whole limb from midway between the wrist and elbow turns into solid ice and forms a long sharp spike, crystalline and glinting in the light. A kind of mist rises off of it a little, it's so cold compared even to the evening air. He then shifts it again and it becomes a serrated blade, and then just a hand, a translucent hand made of ice, but a hand none the less whose fingers bend and move even though they are cold. He holds the translucent ice hand out, palm up, toward Joshua. "Healing is amazing, that's not a 'just' kind of thing. Being able to fix what's broken is.. really cool."

Joshua Foley has posed:
Josh's eyes get very, very wide as he watches Bobby go through all the different forms his ice limb can take right here "Holyshit." pops out of his mouth and he tilts his head this way and that.

"Uh.. is it safe levels of cold?" he starts to reach out with a fingertip towards your palm to touch it curious. "And... that is what Kitty and the others said. I can't see practicing medicine or anything.. I mean not like a hospital would let a mutant do that probably.. but it was really cool helping some other kids in the nurses office until they got a room assigned to me."

Bobby Drake has posed:
"Oh, yeah, my hand is. I can make it unsafe levels of cold. But right now you can touch it, it's just like an ice cube out of the freezer," Bobby says, not moving as Josh's fingertip touches his palm. It feels smooth and cold like it would as though he were carved like an ice sculpture, except that it can move, unlike an ice sculpture. He grins a little. Then he nods and says, "Well, just because you might not be able to practice at a traditional hospital -- that doesn't mean you couldn't learn more about healing and help out at like a mutant clinic or something. Mutants have a hard time getting care at traditional hospitals, so someone who could help them is in pretty high demand. I mean.. if that's something that you'd be interested in doing."

Joshua Foley has posed:
Josh presses his fingertip to the ice and then blinks and moves to press his hand fully to your palm, sort of like an arrested high five there. "... okay that is cold and really strange... I mean it does not feel like when I touch other people at all.. and I dn't mean because it is ice.. or .. maybe I do .. but ... like " he pulls his hand back.

"I could feel Kitty's bruise and where she was okay and .. that is just really strange..."

"I don't mind healing peopel... it is .. well it is nice to be helpful back since everyone has bene so nice. I mean I have no idea what I am doing yet really but classes just started today... though I doubt there is a class on mutant healing.

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby doesn't move, just holding his palm out and still as Josh pokes at it. He doesn't seem to mind, and grins a little bit. His palm is hard and cold to the touch, like touching an ice statue, but it is smooth and slippery. "Oh.. because it's ice and you can't feel like.. the tissue and stuff? Like you couldn't heal the ice, because it's not human skin and muscle." He holds out his other hand, which is still normal, palm up, just as he had the other one, for Josh to try. "Probably can on this one though," he suggests, curious perhaps for the sake of SCIENCE, himself. "Probably not a class on that specifically, at least not yet, but there's probably others who can heal who would be willing to help tutor in that area. Never know."

Joshua Foley has posed:
"Well I can feel the ice.. not like cold on my hand but actually feel the ice.. it just... doesn't feel like .." he shifts and puts one hand on each of your palms there like some frozen game of patty cake at this point and furrows his brow. "Yeah I can feel them both.. I just amn ot sure how to heal ice. I mean it isn't like your injured right?"

It feels very odd honestly. Also well Josh isn't a healer, he is a biokenetic which isn't understood yet.

"Huh... they did say it was super rare so I wonder how they will try to help me learn how to use it." he pulls his hands back now.

Bobby Drake has posed:
"No, I'm not injured," Bobby grins. "In fact, if I lose the hand, I can recreate it when I'm ice." He grins a little and says, "I imagine it's pretty strange if you can sense it. To me it's.. different.. in a way, but it's always me, either way." He has no idea what Josh is but he just takes the other guy at his word, because he has no way of knowing one way or another what the difference is. He shrugs his shoulders, "I think what they try to do is learn what you can do and then help you master your own self control and learn how to explore what you can do. Everyone is so different, it's not like there's a class on being a guy who can create multiple copies of himself, or on being a girl who can vibrate through walls. It's more like.. a traditional school combined with using your unique gifts in ways that you can control to your benefit and that of others, and how to control yourself so you don't hurt yourself or others." He grins, "When I was a kid, I couldn't control it, and I'd just puff out like a big uh, fluffy, frostball. I looked like a really sad frosty the snow man with legs.

Joshua Foley has posed:
"Okay... no offense but that is a real funny mental image... did anyone try to put a stovepipe hat on you?" he grins and looks off towards the boathouse and lake.

"Also yeah that makes sense.. if the powers are all unique and some really rare.. I guess you got to get very general about stuff and .. well like the basketball coach said in school teach the fundementals?"

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby Drake grins over at Josh and shrugs his shoulders, "Stovepipe hat, carrot nose, scarves around my neck, pretty much all of it. It was pretty goofy looking." He can laugh about it now. It's been a long time since he couldn't control his abilities and he looked like Frosty. "Yeah, pretty much. For me it was about learning how to just self discipline, get control of my own mind, and focus. Once I could focus, then I could explore what I could do. When I could learn not to lash out when I got emotional, then I could you know, not freeze someone into a block of ice because they were harassing me and a friend." He smiles a little. "You'll probably learn how to focus and learn to feel what your sensing, how to kind of experiment to figure out what each thing means in particular, what differences and variations mean, that sort of thing. /How/ you use it will be uniquely yours."

Joshua Foley has posed:
"Interesting.. I mean it feels a little dangerous to just be winging it.. Im sure ..." he thinks "I don't want to do whatever the equivilant is of putting someone in a block of ice.. with healing.. over healing... hmm.. well that sounded better in my head."

"I'm sure they will figure it out.. a lot of people here seem really smart.. like geek smart." and yeah Josh doesn't seem to consider himself in that bucket.

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby Drake grins at that and says, "Yeah, probably not going to overheal someone unless you like, heal their mouth shut or something." Bobby pauses and then shivers, "Okay, that's creepy. Don't do that." He grins though, not sounding like he's particularly serious or that he thinks Josh is actually going to heal someone's mouth shut. "Yeah, there are a lot of really brilliant people here which is a good and a bad thing. Remember that even the really brilliant and the really powerful people are still people. You're people, too. You'll find your place here and figure out your thing, too."

Joshua Foley has posed:
"That was super creepy.. like horror movie creepy." he pauses "Now I am totally going to be obsessing about not doing that and it is your fault if I end up healingsomeone's mouth shut Bobby." okay finally a ray of humor in the darkness there. He smiles a little lop sided. "Going to be.. all Bobby's fault."

"Thanks though, for being cool."

bazing

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby Drake drops his face into his now non-ice hands and chuckles, "Oh god. If you do, I so owe both you and that person an apology." He's still laughing, though. Finally he lifts his head and grins, then rolls his eyes a little. "That's why they call me Iceman. But, more seriously, any time, man. I've been the new guy. You wanna hang out, come knock on my door. It's in the faculty hall, over on the right, third one down. Until I graduate I spend most of the week in the city at Empire State but.. I'm here on the weekends and a lot of evenings. And we'll totally go out and get you some new stuff for your room this week if you want."

Joshua Foley has posed:
Josh grins as he makes Bobby laugh and nods. "That would be fantastic... thank you." he looks sidelong to Bobby then leans shoulder bumping now before slipping up to his feet and stretching.

"I'm assuming you aren't actually cold... but I'm headed in... it is chilly and I'm hungry." pauses "Thanks Bobby."

Bobby Drake has posed:
Bobby Drake grins and returns the bump lightly before getting up as well and grabbing his bottle from the ground where he'd left it. "Nope, not cold. But, I should go check on that load of laundry I was doing. Was good to meet you, Josh. I'll catch you soon."
