An Almost Perfect Con
Date of Scene: 26 March 2021
Location: Harry's Hideaway (Bar)
Synopsis: Babs seeks out Hunter at the bar where he and Bobbi got back together. Too bad she's not up on current events, all the same instead of 'I Got You' Babe, this time is more 'I Shot You Babe'.
Cast of Characters: Lance Hunter, Bobbi Morse

Lance Hunter has posed:
Hunter was at loose ends, wondering how after so many years of being single he's forgotten how to entertain himself while he was alone. When he was with Bobbi, it was always a no brainer, hang out with Bobs provided they were both free or find something to do until she was. Now he spent most of his time at Harry's and harassing his friends like Izzy and Mack to come down to join him there. Tonight though he struck out completely and so it was he was sitting alone at the bar, giving a dirty look to the bloke who picked 'I Got You Babe' from the juke box. It was like the universe was rubbing the situation in his face. He downs the rest of his bottle of Smithwicks and lifts his hand to get Harry's attention, "Harry mate, do me another," he says holding up his bottle. As if Harry didn't know by now what Hunter drank, what Hunter /always/ drank when he can find a place with it on the menu.

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Barbara "Babs" Hunter-Morse, invader from another world, had been biding her time. Learning more about the other her. As had Lancelot. If they were going to replace them, they needed to divide and conquer. So it is that Babs had been learning to be Bobs. Weird name. Her name is Barbara after all not Bobbi.

The closer are a pretty darned close match, as is the swagger and confidence. The affection.. about a week behind the latest drama the couple have been experiencing though. "Hey hon," Babs says with the cheery confident smile of Bobbi, a happy Bobbi, one who enjoys sitting on the couch and watching marbles Bobbi.

She casually sits down next to him at the bar and says, "You didn't order for me? selfish. Harry, bourbon on the rocks." She smiles over to Lance and sees he's in a funk, "Work getting you down?"

Lance Hunter has posed:
Hunter blinks as Bobbi approaches seemingly happy and orders a drink. "That to throw in my face or is this some sort of trick?" Hunter asks with narrowed eyes, shifting a little to make an easier dodge if his first theory proves to be more than idle speculation. "Or is this you trying to patch things up?" he asks, still very tentative in his words and demeanor as if he were walking onto very thin ice.

Bobbi Morse has posed:
What might come as a surprise to Bobbi and Lance... that their doppelgangers never fought over the same issues that they have after they first met. They loved, they got married. They might even have considered having children had ZZGU not invaded their home. Perhaps, though, they simply never confronted the issues that were underlying. No blood was spilt to forge a stronger bond.

So it takes Babs by surprise that Lance would be so hostile toward her. That was not how this was meant to go. Perhaps this worlds Lancelot has a weird sense of humour. She laughs, "Good one." The drink is placed in front of her and she says cheers holding it up, "Are we going to watch marbles tonight or will we be doing something a bit more fun?" She takes a sip of the whisky and ...winks at the man.

Lance Hunter has posed:
Lance's bottle pauses part way up to his lips as he sideyes 'Bobbi' after that wink. "You hit your head or have another heart attack?" he asks her. "What's the deal Bobs, if you're messing with me it's not very funny. We should stick to arguing on comms like civilized people and not make this personal." Then he takes a sip of his beer a long one to buy him a moment to consider what her game was.

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Babs glowers at the uncooperative man. This was a failure. He hadn't figured it out but he will in a moment, "Well shit. What's wrong with your people. You live in the best Earth I've ever seen and you're miserable all the time." Mhm, Babs is now pissed that all this preparation to fool Lance was a complete waste of time. "You're not even half the man Lancelot is," she scorns.

Of course there was a plan. Make sure his other half was occupied with Lancelot and the pair of them take out each others doubles. What could be simpler. Now she's going to have to do it in this bar again.. with that Henry guy here as well.

A knife is brandished with her hidden hand and she grabs at Lance for a good grip and then attempts to shank him. Unlike Bobbi though, she doesn't have super soldier strength and she doesn't have the years of learning to fight with May and Natasha and many other exceptionally good martial artists. She is simply not as good as what Lance has had to deal with.

Lance Hunter has posed:
Babs was right his brain was just coming around to the idea this wasn't Bobs but 'Babs' when she makes the grab for him the knife glinting in his peripheral vision. "Bloody hell," he curses as he puts a foot against the bar in an attempt to launch himself out of Babs' grip and away from that knife long enough to not be stabbed and think of a counter attack. If he'd tried that shit with Bobbi though, he was pretty sure he'd have a knife in his stomach to worry about.

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Babs smirks as he launches himself away and she loses her grip on him. The knife twirls in her hand and she stands up. "You're such a pain in my butt. We tried playing nice. We were going to send you back to our world and the two of you could live there like you want us to live there. Well, now we're through being reasonable."

The knife is put away as she draws out a pistol. She lifts it up and then hears the chuk-chuk of a shotgun behind her and dives out of the way as Harry shoots the weapon he has brandished. After the last attack by the doppelgangers, Harry wasn't going to take any more chances.

Lance Hunter has posed:
"Well finally," Hunter says. "You and Bobs are on the same page," he says of giving up on being reasonable, as he tries tries to move away as the pistol comes out. He flinches and checks himself over as he hears the blast of a shotgun, not quite sure who fired until he sees Harry standing there with the weapon. "Brilliant mate," Hunter cheers the man as he scrambles to his feet. "Give it here, Harry, quick," he says holding out a hand for the weapon.

Bobbi Morse has posed:
Babs rolls back behind a sturdy couch as the shotgun shells embed in to it. She scowls and listens to what Lance is saying. Harry doesn't exactly know what it is Lance and Bobbi do, he knows better than to ask, but he trusts them with weapons. He tosses the shotgun to Lance.

This was the second time that Babs had been interrupted by this barkeeper. Who does he think he is? he's not even alive back on their world. This bar doesn't even exist. And he's stupid enough to toss a weapon through the air, giving her ample time to rise, aim, and pull the trigger.

She is diving behind the cover of the bar even as Harry grips at his chest where the bullet struck. His other hand grabs at the bar top and he starts to struggle for breath. The light fades from his eyes so quickly even as the stain of blood cover his clothes. Harry collapses over the bar top counter, and Lance has a shotgun.

Lance Hunter has posed:
It all happens so quick Hunter isn't even sure what he saw, at least not consciously, but he still feels the sudden flood of rage come through him as he catches the weapon and brings it around to aim at Babs. Even looking like Bobbi isn't enough to stay his hand now, he aims fires, aims and fires again. "Everyone clear out now, and call 911" he says hopping back over the bar for cover, there wasn't time to help Harry right now, except to end the danger as quickly as possible, though he does take a moment to say, "Sorry mate," hoping he'll get a chance for a proper apology later.

Bobbi Morse has posed:
The people are in a panic. Gunfire.. in this bar. Again. There's more than one exit and they certainly don't need to be prompted to run for cover. The terminator style shotgun shots cause Babs to duck and quickly dash in to the storage room between shots. She hits the light switch hard enough to turn it off and bust the mechanism so the room goes dark and she moves behind several stacked barrels of booze.

"You're miserable Lance. Not like me and Lancelot. You might as well give up now - you have nothing to live for," Babs calls out in Bobbi's voice. How dare she speak with those tones, someone who would murder Harry in cold blood. The only light illuminating the room comes from the bar itself and the Emergency Exit green lighting over the back door.

Lance Hunter has posed:
Hunter is seething as he advances carefully towards Babs position. "Shut your bloody mouth," he growls at the woman As she takes cover he lets another round go, perferating the barrels and hopefully forcing her out of that cover and into his line of fire.

"Was going to let you go home, but you crossed a line, so this miserable bastard is going to be the one to end you for what you did to Harry."

Bobbi Morse has posed:
The barrel starts to spill out beer over the floor which is quite the noise and smell. There is stunning silence beyond that glugging sound as Babs prepares herself. She has a pretty good idea of where he is and even where that barrel might be pointing. That doesn't mean he can't move it quickly and pull that trigger.

She takes a gamble, narrowing her eyes, then shutting them for a moment as she makes a prayer to be with Lancelot again soon. She tosses a stray beer cap across the room and then rises up to shoot at Lance center mass, pulling the trigger.

Lance Hunter has posed:
Hunter sees Babs move, but he's comitted now, he just aims and pulls the trigger hoping to whatever gods give a crap about guys like him he pulls it first when he sees Babs gun rise to face him. The bullet hits hard and Lance staggers back, chest on fire, with pain, his eyes not even registering where his shot went. He manages to squeeze the trigger a second time before staggering back and falling down behind the bar. He squrims until his back is against the bar, trying to catch his breath, and push the pain from his mind. "C'mon, you've got a job to do, you can die later..." he tells himself as he cranes his neck to look at the mirror behind the bar to try to see where Babs had gotten to.

Bobbi Morse has posed:
The trigger is pulled and the bullet is sent toward Lance. The shotgun shoots... the barrel next to her explodes shards of wood. A second shot, the pellets catch her gun arm and she drops the pistol. He's down.. may be done for, but she needs to retreat and recover.

The sounds of sirens are approaching and Lance can see through the mirror the emergency exit door swinging shut as Babs has made her get away.

Lance Hunter has posed:
Hunter doesn't breathe until Babs is gone through that emergency exit, but once he does, he checks where he was hit feeling at his chest in a panic, expecting blood but getting only the pain of bruised flesh. "What in the hell..." he says before he reaches into his jacket and pulls out his phone, the hardy SHIELD issued device was flickering, the screen a spiderweb of cracks radiating out from the spent round lodged firmly in the middle, behind it and still visible under the cracks was the picture he'd got Daisy to get around the lockouts on the SHIELD device to add, him and Bobs together in one of their happier moments, only now Bobs' face was covered by the bullet. Hunter shakes his head, murmuring "Thanks, Bobs," before he moves to check on Harry as the sirens draw closer.
