Asking Of A Tree
Date of Scene: 04 April 2021
Location: Crew Bunks - Milano
Synopsis: Mantis finds out once and for all that there is no Elder Groot on Earth, but she does find Groot lost something, and she'll need to recruit Rocket to help.
Cast of Characters: Mantis, Groot

Mantis has posed:
Shortly after their visit to Earth, Mantis had made it a point to go over to Groot's bunk, waving her hand warmly, "...Groot! Do you have a moment?"

Groot has posed:
Groot seems relaxed, having finally (for the moment) moved past his idea on Chocolate dealing and onto another idea and nods, "I am Groot."

Mantis has posed:
"Yes!" Mantis says with a wide smile, before bowing at Groot, and offering, "I am still Mantis, this one has a question, if it is okay with you, Groot?" She asks, reaching tentatively to touch Groot, her antennas starting a faint glow, she figures through emotions she might actually understand some of what he says.

Groot has posed:
Groot smiles patiently. He knows of her empathic abiliity and she can sense that he can definitely understand her, though he also knows the complexities of his language are not that easy, "I am Groot." Something something something Talk to Rocket but there was SOME ideas that filtered through there. By body lanuage and facial expression as well as her empathy he is more than willing to work with her to understand.

Groot has posed:
Groot allows her to touch him, and she sees...different. He is what he seems on the surface, gentle, patient, eternal, indeed he is quite 'tree like' in that he takes a much MUCH longer view point than most and has nothing but positive feelings for the whole crew (even Nebula though that is tinged with exasperation) but there is a newly wakened loniliness and obsession with...something. That something is hard to read though and exceptionally copmlex, lingering absent anger at something stolen from him.

Mantis has posed:
Mantis' black pools of eyes widen as she gets this sensation from touching Groot, getting a better understanding of his perspective. She was about to follow through with her question, when that sense of loss just pops on the surface, gasping, "Groot? Someone took something of you!? Do you need help finding it?"

Groot has posed:
Groot consider this and shakes his head, "I am Groot." There are ...two different things at least based on the emotions she sense. One is long and distant and he definitely knows where it is...maybe some help some day, a lingering quiet long denied hope but....not yet. The other thing? It's a surge of hope but dread. There MAY be some need to find that but he is also very unsure if he wants to. Its definitely a complex panoplay of emotions.

Mantis has posed:
"Oooo, it must a very unique item or complicated situation, whenever you want to find it, I will be happy to help!" Mantis offers with a big, smile, before blinking as she recalls her question, "oh! I was going to ask you a question," she takes a moment to settle, and then asks, "are there Elder Groots where you come from? Like really big?"

Groot has posed:
Groot considers this a moment and nods. "I am Groot." She can feel that this is...a LOT conveyed in that answer. Like paragraphs. But generally it is positive though not ENTIRELY accurate in the sense that there was something not QUITE right about the question even though the answer is 'basically' yes.

Mantis has posed:
"Do you know of any Groots or Elder Groots on Earth? Because I saw one, very majestic, and all the humans decorated him with gifts and jewels and a star! I may get a star hat next time I'm on Earth!" Mantis says excitedly, as she mimics a star atop her head with her hands, "see?"

Groot has posed:
Groot chuckles and shakes his head, "I am Groot." He is again, saying a lot there but there is no doubt that he is conveying a definitative negative there. He isnt mean or hostile about it, but whatever Mantis saw, it definitely wasn't one of his people, though the emotion and statement clearly shows a connection to the thing he lost or that was taken AND the new thing are definitely related to his people. It's clear as night and day. Indeed, the ache of WANTING what she says to be true blares like a sun, but he doesnt just 'think' he KNOWS that she didnt see his people there.

Mantis has posed:
"Awwww..." Mantis is quite disappointed to learn that Quill wasn't lying, it is in fact just a big human tree, and not an Elder Groot. Unfortunate, she'd love to meet an Elder Groot, it must have some special powers! "I'm sorry, Groot, I thought wrong, I guess...well, do you want me to go find Rocket? Maybe he can help gather everyone to find what you lost?"

Groot has posed:
Groot says, "I am Groot." This time what he says is clear even if the exact words are not conveyed. Rocket knows. Or at least...he knows the salient details though ironically (DEEP down) she gets the impression he sort of...let Rocket fill in his own blanks. He didn't lie by omission, he just sort of...didnt go into details.

Mantis has posed:
Mantis nods, "I will go find him then, whatever it is, I promise we will find it." She nods respectfully at Groot, before letting go, offering another bow, before turning to leave, calling out, "Rocket! I think we have a mission! Do you know where Drax is at? He can help!"

Groot has posed:
Groot smiles and chuckles at the clarity of her power and yet so much left out by the lack of words, but he is clearly greatful and pleased at her desire to help even if he is unsure it will.
