Synopsis: Gabby walks in on Rahne attempting to fix an engine part. In the end, it does not get fixed. But there are other things done instead.
Cast of Characters: Rahne Sinclair, Gabby Kinney

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
"Et does nae fit," Rahne growls, a screwdriver in her teeth as she pokes at the engine part she's trying to rebuild. She has what appears to be a carburetor for some kind of engine that she's bent a piece on, and papers strewn about. She has grease on her hands, grease on her nose, and a long strip of grease through her hair. It looks as if she ran her hand through it in frustration.

A small round piece rolls away and down the stairs, clinking as it goes. Considering that all pieces are necessary, she may need that. But having more of an idea what she's doing would also be helpful. It looks as if she's making things worse, and at least one piece is on upside-down.

"Gaah! It dinnae fit!" She tries to jam the bit on harder, and something snaps. "Yeep!"

Gabby Kinney has posed:
The peice that rolls down the stairs was impossible to miss. The sound alone of it clattering down would raise interest of nothing else. Gabby pauses as it clinks down in front of her only to stoop and grab it. Now this was an unusual find. Curious she jogs up the stairs just in time to hear Rahne yelp at the other item snapping. There she pauses on the stairs giving a little clearing of her throat, and hefting up the part. "I think you lost this. You okay?" A look of clear concern at the other girl's frustration was obvious.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Learning the reason for gloves, Rahne turns around. She looks as if someone went after her with black finger paint, except that this is likely to be harder to remove from her pale, freckled skin. Her face is a mix of frustration and surprise, until she places her hand down to support her in the turn.

She places it squarely in the center of the instruction manual she was using for her work, and glances down as she feels paper under her hand. And her face goes white. "Nae!" she decries, then tries to peel her hand off, her eyes looking as if she's not sure she wants to see the damage she just did.

Then she falls over on her back, arms akimbo. "Aye, ah needed et. Ten minutes ago. Jes' tell Mr Logan ah fail an ah'm dead."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney just scoffs with a small, amused snort at the self-depreciationg remarks from Rahne. Instead she grins brightly and uninvited plops herself down to sit next to the other girl cross-legged. "Why would I tell dad that? He'd just gimme a scowl and grunt." Of course she's jesting a little bit about that. And calling him 'dad' was something she still only did on occasion when he wasn't within ear shot to give her The Look over it. "If you need help I'm good at puzzles! Plus I've taken apart a machine or two in my time," she adds while shifting forward to snake her hand out for the book that had been mussed up. It's pulled over to start wiping clean with the edge of her t-shirt not minding the dirt. It was black to begin with.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne sits up, the oddly shaped mechanism that she's been working on sitting on a stool in front of her. She crosses her legs, then waggles the screwdriver in her mouth for a moment, looking at Gabby. She picks it out of her lips, her face showing obvious relief.

"He asked me tae rebuild et, th' parts an' instruc...enstruc.." She frowns, then pokes at the papers that Gabby is looking at. "Those. Ah ken ah broke some'at," she adds as she peers past Gabby toward the THING. She refuses to think of it as anything else until it stops being so awful.

"Ah was takin' his mechanic course."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney nods knowingly at that. Not that she'd taken one of his courses before, but... She looks down at the page. Smudged as it was she can at least read it over and examine the diagrams. "It's always easier to take things apart than put them back together," she reasons quietly. "But it helps if you have everything you need laid out so you can see it all in the first place." Twisting where she sits she glances around searching for... something. Not finding it she lets out a little huff of breath. "Usually when I have to put my guns back together--Do not tell anyone this, they get cranky when they hear what I've been taught--I put down a blanket then lay out all the parts so it can be seen. Plus they tend to roll away less if it's on fabric." With such sage advice given she grins broadly. "Want me to grab a blanket? Or towel or something? I'd only be a minute." It's about this time she recalls she hadn't even introduced herself. "Oh, I'm Gabby by the way."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne, sitting and listening avidly, has her mouth slightly open as she does so. She seems to have realized that she's dealing with someone who actually has some skills, something that she's always admired in ...everyone other than herself.

She realizes that Gabby has stopped talking and suddenly nods enthusiastically, her brain kicking back into gear. "Rain!" she says, her accent mangling her own name. "Rahne. Aye. Ah can get..." She pauses, squinching her eyes as she realizes she'd ruin one of the blankets with all of this mess. "Do ye, I mean..blanket for thes kind of thing?"

After a pause, she adds, "Ah'm Rahne. Aaand ah already said thet."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney grins at the way she stumbles over the introduction. Being looked at in that manner wasn't something she was used to. It was a nice change of pace from everyone rolling their eyes and drawling her name out at her antics. She did have skills, it was just stuff she opted to not use anymore. Usually. "Well, the type of blanket we used was this thing cargo blanket thing you'd wrap furniture in or stuff in the back of a car so it didn't matter much. A towel works too. I mean it'll probably be ruined, but that's less to ruin than a blanket." With that she hops up to her feet, dusts her sides off real quick, and assures, "I'll be back in a jiff!" Without any further preamble she bolts down the stairs at the speed of a hyper teenager. No mutant abiilty there, other than knowing where the nearest linen closet is. It's only a minute before she's back with an armload. Just in case.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne watches her leave, wondering what Gabby's parents did right to make such a nice kid, and thanking her diety quietly. "Thank ye," she says to the sky, then blinks with a start as she realizes she's meant to take things apart now. "Right."

She picks up the screwdriver and starts to slowly pry off the broken cover, which falls off with a SPANG on the rooftop. She winces a bit, then turns as Gabby returns. "Es okay, was a'ready busted!" Then she gets to her feet and moves to let Gabby have the space for towels. Or blankets. Or just for politeness, she seems to want to be nice for some reason.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
"Well yeah, that's why he's having you work with it probably," Gabby reasons in complete understanding. "I don't break things a lot too, they just are." That might just be her, though. The few towels she'd brought are fluffed out and spread on the rooftop fuzzy side up to avoid having small screws roll off. At the bottom of the pile are two shiny red cans. One is offered out to Rahne. "I grabbed a few sodas while I was down there. Now." With that, she flops down again to sit quite content to sit on the bare roof if need be. "Try to lay out all your screws in one area by size, then the other parts. Then we can look over the manual to see where to start."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne nods, then puts her tools over on one side of the cloth. She quickly collects up the parts she's already near to losing and places them in a pile, then pauses as if expecting them to magically inspire her with where they're supposed to go.

The soda can she looks at, takes, then proceeds to sit down again and place between her legs. Legs crossed, it's probably the safest place. "Thank ye," she says, her left cheek quirking in a pained grimace. Then she sighs, and starts picking parts off the half-assembled device. "Tae be honest, jes havin' company es nice. Ah spend a lot o' time on m' own." She's lonely, that much is obvious.

Without looking, she says as she puts down a screw, "M' own fault. Ah should get out, if y' been here a while, ah shoulda have met y' by now."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
"I've been around, but only this past year or so. Maybe less," Gabby reasons as she glances up toward the sky with a little thoughtful squint. "I guess it was around this time that I came to New York. I wasn't at the school at first though." The thought is shrugged off, and she offers the other girl a grin again watching as she starts to set to work. She doesn't jump in though--She was just here for guidance and company as Rahne said. Picking her own soda up she cracks the tab open to take a good gulp of it. "I hung around with Julio, and Julian and a bunch of them for awhile. I was going to Happy Harbor at first, but decided to switch to here. So I've been mostly holed away catching up on my studies, or out in the woods running around. You're always welcome to join me sometime! ... The guys kind of drifted apart after some things we went through. And Noriko's busy with her girlfriend these days."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne keeps pulling bits off of the thing, then pulls out a larger inner bit that leaves the cover mostly empty. She huffs at the thing, then looks down at the pile of junk she has to make into a working engine part. She smiles as Gabby talks, turning to look more directly now that she's not so distracted.

When Gabby mentions the woods she hesitates visibly, but turns to look at the girl speculatively. She nods then, giving what appears to be an amused half-smile. "Ah'm en th' woods a lot," she says cryptically. Then, as if making a decision to open up and given that Gabby is carrying most of the conversation, she takes a breath and holds it. Then with obvious effort she adds, "Am werewolf. An et be safe, honest."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
"A werewolf?" Here Gabby pauses to stare at Rahne. It's hard to figure out what she's thinking for a moment... But then she lets out a little squeal of air rushing past her lips. "That's SO COOL! I just go jogging a lot and I like the lake and Laura sometimes sets traps for me to keep me on my toes so watch out for any pitfall traps she might have forgotten to fill in--but that's so cool! Are you still a redhead as a wolf? Does it hurt? OH MY GOD are the belly rubs as awesome as dogs make it out to be!?" These are all important things to know.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne opens her mouth to answer, but Gabby keeps asking more questions. She says, "Um...y...n..no..um..wha?" as she tries to answer everything at once, or the stuff that wasn't actually a question, but she's blushing underneath her grease makeup and clearly was not expecting such a positive response. "Ah..uh...dinnae know? Ah mean, yes, am still red hair." She reaches up and adds more awful to her hair, touching it compulsively. Then she looks at her hand.

"Ah dinnae belly rub much. Bein' th' wolf es sinful." She drops that out there like a rock into a pond. She has beliefs.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney listens intently even if the questions weren't really answered. This was how she got sometimes. A ramble of questions that aren't always answered, but she just has to get out. Maybe that sip of soda was enough to push her into the territory of babbling. Even so she listens raptly, and when Rahne mentions it being sinful, she just tips her head to the side looking completely puzzled. "Why? I mean I'm not big into gods and stuff, but didn't god create wolves too? Don't see how that makes them worse than people. People do a lot worse things than wolves do."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne sits, her disassembled project forgotten for now. She looks at Gabby as if trying to see if she's being mocked. It has happened enough for her to actually worry if it's happening. She doesn't get that feeling though; Gabby seems somehow genuine, and just talks before her brain is engaged. Something Rahne's familiar with too, sometimes.

So she opens up a bit more. "Mah faither told me 'at it meant th' devil was enside me. Ah want tae be a good Christian, but somethin' ah did brought thes on me. So ah pray harder, an try tae be good." She hopes that makes sense; it makes less and less sense every day, here.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
"Oh, no, that's bull," Gabby states matter-of-fact. "See... My friend Julian. He's had experience with demons and devils and stuff." She picks up her soda to turn around in her hand a few times, careful not to spill it as she fiddles. "His parents sold his soul before he was born so they could be rich, and when he turned 18 he was supposed to become the demons property or something like that. Anyway, me and Julio and Illyana and Jimmy and some others fought to get his soul back cuz that's bull. There's nothing you can do for a demon to get your soul unless it's sold. And apparently even parents can sell it for you." An eyebrow lifts as she brings her gaze back to Rahne, quite serious. There wasn't any joking going on here. "Did you sell your soul? Doubt it. And, anyway, if you're HERE it's because you're a mutant. You got some kind of ability like I do. Turning into a wolf is a pretty sweet one if you ask me."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne doesn't look like she entirely gets it. In fact, it's more like she's not sure that she wants to hear this version of things, but she has such a mix of emotions that she isn't even sure how to handle. She stands up as Gabby talks, pacing the roof and leaving her can of soda behind, and walks back and forth a moment.

When Gabby compliments the wolf, she stops and stares off the rooftop quietly, biting her lower lip. She stops, then whispers, "Did nae sell m' soul. Was...your friend, es he alright now?" Even in mental turmoil, she worries about how the story ended. Was Julian alright?

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney doesn't try to stop her pacing. That's a lot to take in. Especially for someone who might be religious but not have any experience with the demon world like... well. She had barely scratched the surface herself. Mainly it was Illyana she trusted to lead them through it all right. "He is. We all gave up a sliver of our own souls to make a new soul that we traded for his. And our souls grew back, too," she assures with a thump of her fist to her chest. "Good as new." The smile falters a little, growing softer as she watches Rahne. "... I know it's a lot to take in. And I know I'm not as old or experienced as alot of people here, but... I've seen hate, and anger, and fear in people who don't understand what we are. Some of the things they said were very hurtful. Because they were scared, and trying to find a way to feel strong."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne looks back at Gabby, her build-in manners making her unable to stare off into the abyss while someone is trying to help her, to be polite. She looks as if her chest is going to burst though, as she says breathily, "Et be a lot tae think about," with a shift of her feet, her hands grabbing into the fabric of her shirt.

She'll have to throw away that shirt now, too.

"If," she starts to say, then closes her eyes and leans her back against the stone wall that keeps students from falling. "When ah be scared, ah've said things thet werenae fair, or true." She looks like she's close to grasping something important. Perhaps she's been thinking on it for a long time.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney smiles reassuringly once it seems Rahne was calming. Or at least thinking on things. "I can promise you, you aren't going to find anyone here that's scared of you or what you can do. We've all got something that makes us unique or ... 'scary' to some people. Doesn't mean we're bad people ourselves. I mean, heck." She pushes to her feet no worse for wear at sitting cross legged on the roof for a prolonged amount of time. Her hands spread to indicate herself in a kind of half-shrug. "I heal when I get injured. Probably would have been called a witch a few hundred years ago for it. I don't even have control over it. Just happens."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne looks at Gabby then and smiles. She seems to have very expressive features, there's something very real in it as she tilts slightly to the left and her right cheek perks upward. The eyes light, and she seems to want to ask things, to be curious. To be waiting for permission.

But not for too long, and she asks one of the questions that Gabby herself asked, five minutes and a lifetime ago. "Does et hurt?"

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney breaks into a broader smile at the question shot back toward her. "Nah, not me. I've got more going on than just the healing. I can't feel pain because of an experiment that was ran on me... but my sisters can, and everyone else in my family. Yeah, it hurts for them. I just have to be careful because I can't feel pain so I can't always tell I am injured." She pauses again, then asks Rahne, "Feeling a bit better now, I hope?" Then, just because it's her, she asks, "Want a hug? I'm good at hugs."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne relaxes a little when she hears Gabby's answer; she didn't know that she was tense. Pain hurts, after all. She was hoping this wasn't going to be one of those horror story moments. But then she tells her first half-truth to Gabby. "Mine...does nae hurt either," she says. And it is true, the change doesn't hurt. It just hurts her soul, and she so very desperately needs a hug after saying it.

So she steps forward, and nods. She opens her mouth to say something, and finds it unable to make words. With tears almost on her cheeks, she nods. And if she can, she takes the hug offered. Because Gabby's mention of family was the last straw, and she doesn't want to talk about that. Not yet.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney doesn't hesitate to step forward and wrap her arms around Rahne in a good, firm, tight hug. Something she'd said pushed her to tears. She wasn't sure what but this seemed a good enough stopping point for trying to convince her she was okay. So she just hugs her, and talks while she does, without letting go. "It's gonna be okay, you'll see. This place is really great. I can introduce you to some of the other kids. If they ever give you any trouble just lemme know." A pause, and she adds, "And just so you know I'll probably try to scratch your ears as a wolf, no offense."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne doesn't sob, but Gabby's shoulder does gain a certain salty dampness during the hug. She smiles as the threat goes through, her ears twitching in response, and then Gabby is holding a crimson wolf. Not too large, big enough to hug. But the fur is so obviously the same tone, it seems that Rahne has chosen to answer another of Gabby's earlier questions.

But that is the last she says, that night. And Logan's class can wait. After all, it's not like Rahne was going to fix that thing anyway.

Logan gave her the wrong instructions.
