Cast of Characters: Eddie Brock, Gwen Stacy

Eddie Brock has posed:
Since the night where Eddie stopped pretending he didn't have feelings for a certain blond haired college student, he had been careful to only stop by the corner store when Gwen wasn't working. Not really trusting himself to not let something show that Mrs. Wong would pick up on.

But today he's been away all day, and Eddie knows Gwen is supposed to be working. And he just wants to see her. So he heads for the small neighborhood shop.

<<Venom>> "Why do you care what she thinks?"

Eddie grumbles quietly. "Because she's... she's someone. She's there in my life. People care about how others see them."

<<Venom>> "She keeps a gun behind the counter. It is good you have me with you. For when she shoots you."

Eddie pauses outside the door. "She's not going to shoot me," he says. And then, in a voice that sounds more like he believes his own words. "I mean, that's a little much. Right?"

Silence.

Eddie grumbles, stuffing his hands in his jacket and stepping into the shop.

Gwen Stacy has posed:
One could say that Gwen's life is a little bit of a mess these days. Not that it's never been chaotic, she does thrive in it. But sometimes it just feels too much. Finals just around the corner, her work, moonlighting as Ghost Spider and now with the added 'complication' of being with Eddie. Which she was still figuring out what it exactly meant.

It meant a lot of daydreaming, Gwen sometimes looking absent and Mrs. Wong coming by to berate her for not getting to help a client or another, or telling her she missed cleaning the backroom. Ah well..

Right now it's quiet though, a bit later in the evening and not long till closing time. It's only a few stragglers coming in at these hours more often than not. Which means Gwen is standing behind the counter, leaned over with an elbow on it, eyes down on a rather large 'tome' she is studying for an exam. Mrs. Wong is nearby, getting a few items up on a shelf, hawking over the girl. "I know your gaze." she says, eyes narrowed. "Is there boy in your life now?"

Nothing appears to escape the attentive eye of Mrs. Wong! And that's just what Eddie hears when he gets into the store.

Eddie Brock has posed:
Eddie glances over the store, but his eyes heading for the elevated counter on the right where the person working has a good view of the rest of the room. When his gaze falls on Gwen the corners of his lips turn up just a bit more in a smile. The sight of the white-blond haired girl makes the rest of his day just seem to fade away.

It takes Eddie a moment to realize someone is standing beside Gwen. His eyes lift to Mrs. Wong, and he does his best to put on a neutral expression. "Afternoon," he says to them as he walks past, though his eyes flitting to Gwen again quickly. "Mrs. Wong, when are you going to run that sale on the oranges again?" he asks her. "Growing boys need their vitamin C to stay healthy."

Gwen Stacy has posed:
Gwen looks up to Mrs. Wong, blinking a couple of times at the woman. Was she so transparent? Well, damn it.. Good thing she couldn't sniff out her Ghost Spider persona too. Though the color on her cheek is sort of the answer to it. And she stays silent. So.., very much guilty. And then Eddie is there. Great! Lets add more confusion! She looks at him, feeling her face rather burning and then lets out. "Afternoon.." very neutral too. Too neutral?

Mrs. Wong narrows her eyes again, then looks up to Eddie, "Hello, Mr. Brock." a smile, then a pat on the man's arm. "You aren't in the growing stage anymore. Unless we talking to the sides, mmmm?" but then she adding. "But shame on you if you need a promotion to eat my good, healthy oranges. Or are they not good enough for you if not on discount, mmm?" her eyes intently up on Eddie now. Staring right into his soul.

Gwen coughs and then just shakes her head a bit to herself. "Don't mind her, she was complaining about noone buying those oranges just a while back."

Eddie Brock has posed:
Eddie gives a chuckle at Mrs. Wong's comment. Perhaps just a little more exuberant one than he'd have normally given. "Not all of us have a money tree out back we can pick dollar bills off of, Mrs. W," he says.

His eyes swing over to Gwen. "Gwen. Looks like you're studying hard," he says of the book, though his eyes stay on her face as he makes the comment. He hesitates there just a moment, before seeming to realize his pause. A flicker of his gaze back to Mrs. Wong and then he says, "So what do you have on sale today if not the oranges?" to cover for himself as he moves further back into the shelves. He stops and picks up a small gold necklace with a little turtle pendant hanging from it. The store has a little of everything. He glances back over towards the counter and then sets it back down and continues on to the next shelf.

Gwen Stacy has posed:
"Finals are coming up." Gwen replies, perhaps happy of speaking about -that-. It's good enough to get that burning sensation off her cheeks. Because who gets excited about talking about studying. Not Gwen! She is still in the same position, elbow on the table, her hand up and holding her chin, watching as Mrs. Wong goes about talking with Eddie.

As for Mrs. Wong, she says, "Well, -not- chocolate." yes, she knows. She gestures, starting to bring Eddie about the store. And yes, he gets the tour, along with a few strategically placed items she has changed around. Because no store worth it's salt can stay the same if they want their clients to come back! "Today it's the codfish." she gestures to the fridge area, "Two for one discount. You look like you need some fish, Eddie." then she finally commenting about the money. "One who waits for money to grow on tree will forever watch the seasons pass them by. You need to grasp those opportunities." some wisdom there!

Gwen shakes her head a bit to herself again, though quirks a brow when she notes Eddie going over the pendants. Her eyes are focused, watching.

Eddie Brock has posed:
"Codfish hmm?" Eddie says as she shows him the fish. His eyes drift over to Gwen as if looking for a sign of whether that sounds like something she might like tonight. "Are these fresh?" he asks Mrs. Wong to stall for time. "Over at the docks they got a seafood market, everything there is like, fresh off the boat," he says. "Though, you know, this is a pretty good price, two for one."

Eddie gives a soft chuckle. "Well, I'm trying, Mrs. W. The opportunities don't come by very often these days though," he tells her. "So how's Mr. W anyway? I haven't seen him around the store in forever. His bad leg doing any better?" he asks of the older Asian man who needs a cane to get around now, and doesn't make as many trips to the store as he did in the past.

Gwen Stacy has posed:
"Codfish." Mrs. Wong confirms, reaching up to tap the side of her head, "It makes mind strong." Then she reaching over to tap the man on the belly with a finger, "And you don't need more meat here." is she calling him fat? Or what's going on? But then those eyes turn into slits at those words 'Are these fresh'. Really, the man asked that. "Eddie." slow burning anger. "All the products at Wong are fresh. But we are talking about codfish. And as you know, Eddie, codfish is better when frozen." so sayeth Wong, "You won't be getting codfish at the docks, I can tell you that!"

Of course that with that promotion one can wonder how long the fish has been frozen. It looks good though!

"His leg is better. But he is too lazy to come to the store." Mrs. Wong says with a small frown. "At least we have Gwen to help so it's been good."

Gwen chimes in, "Is this the part where you say I am getting a raise?" hopeful little tone met by silence.

Eddie Brock has posed:
Eddie at least partially hides his smile as he gets a rise out of Mrs. Wong with the freshness comment about her fish. He's tempted to say it makes the mind strong because it takes willpower to eat it, but he's probably already pushed his luck. Eddie is pretty sure there's a gun behind her counter somewhere.

"Well, I suppose I can't go wrong with two for one codfish then, can I?" he says, his eyes going over to Gwen. He moves over to the freezer to select two of the fish. He does cook, when she lets him, though so far he's struggled on the topic of buying the groceries. Though today at least it appears he can do his part.

He carries the fish over to the counter. "I'm glad to hear about his leg. And hey, Gwen's really make a difference from what I can see," Eddie says, looking back over to her. His eyes linger just a moment longer than they might otherwise, and when he turns back, he's getting a look from Mrs. Wong, as if she's wondering something.

Gwen Stacy has posed:
The blonde's eyebrows go up when Eddie gets the fish to go. Appeasing Wong? Or preparing for the worse..? She isn't totally sure! But her danger sense hasn't shot up yet so he appears safe from the wrath of Wong.., for now. Perhaps until she finds out more about the two of them.

She gives him a radiant smile when he gets near the counter to pay for the codfish. "Will that be all, Mr. Brock?" see? She even puts that little formality in. But she can't help herself and then lets out a bit of a giggle, covering her mouth with the back of her hand.

Wong is no fool though! And those eyes go right back to slits. "Do you have anything to tell Mrs. Wong, Eddie?", those eyes that seem to be spelling 'special hell' boring into the large man.

Gwen goes back to getting the fish good to go! Nope, this has nothing to do with her.

Eddie Brock has posed:
The fish may be frozen, but for a moment Eddie does a fair job of looking like a fish as his mouth hangs open like, then slowly closes. "Yes, that's all," Eddie tells Gwen, and when she shines that smile at him, it's all he can do to not break out in a return smile. As it is his lips move enough in that direction that Mrs. Wong seems to catch it, her head tilting to the side as she looks at him expectantly, one eyebrow rising now.

"Ah..." Eddie warbles at the woman, a hand going to rub at the back of his neck. "That you're looking particularly lovely, Mrs. W? Your hair, you're doing something different with it, aren't you?" he asks her, trying his best to not sound like he's pivoting.

Gwen Stacy has posed:
"My hair always looks lovely." You won't get her with niceties! Mrs. Wong moves in, reaching out to poke again at Eddie's belly. "You better know what you are doing." a look to Gwen. "The two of you." and is that all she has to say of it? Well, she lets out a hmph. Maybe she's mad Eddie won't be forthcoming about it! "You did buy codfish. So you find me in some good mood.." eyes still narrowed. Hell would freeze over under those...

Gwen looks between the two, takes in a breath then barges in with a, "Yes, we are seeing each other, Mrs. Wong." a brow arching and she folding her arms together. Defiant!

"That won't be a problem, will it?" She is also her ONE employee! And she just said she was doing good soooo, what are the odds of Mrs. Wong sending her off?!

Eddie Brock has posed:
Eddie's hand runs over the back of his neck a second time. He lets out a breath. "Yes, we're seeing each other. It... it's good, Mrs. W. Gwen. She's something special," he says. There's something in the look in his eyes, even though they avoid the Asian woman. It isn't embarrassment he's showing at their age difference. Even in his discomfort of Mrs. Wong confronting him, the woman can tell there's an earnestness in Eddie's demeanor that isn't there when he's hit on women in the store before.

He looks over as Gwen asks about it being a problem. In truth, Eddie had thought about the likelihood of being shot. Or maybe beat over the head with a frozen codfish. That could probably give him a concussion, at least until Venom got to work setting him right. He hadn't actually thought whether it might impact Gwen's job. The thought of it doesn't leave him looking happy as he looks to Mrs. Wong to see her reaction to Gwen.

Gwen Stacy has posed:
Mrs. Wong watches the duo for a time. Eyes go from one to the other, considering options perhaps? Eventually though she speaks up. "Well..." a pause, eyes on Gwen. "Make sure he actually eats the codfish, mmm?" a glance to Eddie, letting out a sigh and starting to walk over to another place on the store. She does speak up over her shoulder. "Remember this is the last day of the week, so no skipping home early. Need to clean shop." there. Punishment given. And then she is gone to a back room!

Gwen lets out a sigh of relief. "Well, that went .., okay." as in, could had went terrible, but no!

A grin up to Eddie and she laughs out softly. "Were you really afraid of Mrs. Wong?" she gets a touch suspicious and asks in a lower voice. "What -did- she tell you before, mmm? Did you two talk about me?"

Eddie Brock has posed:
Eddie lets out a breath as he moves closer to Gwen once Mrs. Wong has given her pronouncement and headed into the back. "We did, yes. She knew you were something special, I think, and that... well. What man could not feel about you how I do?" Eddie says. He's quite obviously paraphrasing and putting his own spin on her words. More likely there were threats.

He glances towards the back room. "I mean not... -really-..." Eddie says, his grin a playful one. "Though do not take that woman for granted," he says. Though truthfully the woman's scorn is probably worse than anything else she would do.

Eddie reaches over and slides his fingers along the back of Gwen's neck, holding her there as he moves closer and leans down to kiss her slowly and deep. When his lips part he tells her, "I really hope you like codfish," he tells her. "I actually do know a recipe..."
