Evening at the Pool
Date of Scene: 11 April 2021
Location: Swimming Pool / Patio Deck
Synopsis: A gathering at the pool ends with ribs and conversations between newly-found friends.
Cast of Characters: Kassandra Pagonis, Gabby Kinney, Maxwell Wave, Rahne Sinclair

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
Ever since arriving at Xavier's, Kassandra had done her best to be a good student. Going to class, doing homework, and training with Jean and Ororo (and Xi'an!) to help her sleep through the night without her powers going wild was going well, but still, sometimes it was cool to cut loose and have a little fun. Tonight she slipped into the mostly-deserted pool to take a quick dip and get some exercise in. She hadn't gone swimming since she left home, and she'd really, really like to have a little time being fishy for a change.

Dressed in a simple one-piece swim suit borrowed from someone and with a towel borrowed from someone else, she headed through the campus to the pool, stopping and observing before slipping into the shallow end with a sigh.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
With the weather as warm as it had been lately, a dip in a pool sounded amazing. Sure the lake was just as good, but every now and then you didn't want to make the trek aaaall the way out to the lake. ie, lazy students. All the more reason for Gabby to decide to make use of the pool as well. Except, she wants to have a good splash, which requires a jump off something high. From the rooftop comes a WHOOP as her figure comes into view aiming for the deep end with the well-known-cry of "CANNONBALL!"

Maxwell Wave has posed:
Maxwell is a bit of a regular at the mansion, so if someone has met him before, they've probably at least seen him. He often hangs around Hank or Kitty helping with one science project or another. He also recently helped refurbish the computer lab.

For his good deeds, he often partakes of the free snacks, tinkers in the secret lab, and even sometimes he takes advantage of the swimming pool. He arrives in a pair of black swimming trunks with a towel of his shoulder bearing the physique of someone who also borrows us of the danger room on a semi-regular basis. Oddly, his outfit is completed by a pair of thick tinted goggles.

Roaming over to a table, he sets down his towel and slowly removes the goggles from around his head. Opening his eyes, the sockets radiate light in a bluish hue. Stepping over to the deep end, he hops onto the diving board, hops a few time, and is prepared to leap in when a living cannon ball impacts the water in front of him.

Letting out a low whistle, he waits for Gabby to be out of range before he takes his own dive into the pool, eyes glowing beneath the water.

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
It was so peaceful. So quiet. She actually had a lap down and was turning to start on the second when a shriek from Gabby and a splash suddenly sent Kassandra spinning and a glowing eyes guy standing on the diving board brought her to the surface with a spit of water. "hey!" she laughs, splashing Gabby when she pops to the surface. "I know warning kind of defeats the purpose, but come on...a little warning next time?"

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney bobs to the surface, ever bouyant, and begins to tread water while her hair drips down into her eyes. Splashed and reprimanded by Kass she laughs as she swims off to the side to leave room for Max to swim beneath the water as well. A hand rakes up to flip her hair back out of her eyes properly. "Ah that's no fun! I heard you were heading out here and thought I'd join." For Max, she waits until he surfaces to greet him as well, "Hey! Nice dive! I should learn how to do that." She mostly just falls into the water when she tries.

Maxwell Wave has posed:
Max surfaces and runs his hands through his hair, slicking it away from his forehead. Head tilting to the side, he offers a shrug in between treading water. "If it's not people leaping off the roof, its little dragons stealing your lunch. Never a dull moment at Xavier's, eh?"

He beams, "Ah thanks! You know, it was kind of scary the first time going head first, so awesome that you figured it out."

Turning onto his back, he floats staring up at the sky and drifts toward the shallows. "Though if you are willing to leap off the roof, I'm guessing that a lack of bravery wasn't the problem. Ha."

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
"Hey, Lockheed just did it that one time. IT's why I've started to have a secondary lunch set aside just in case he shows up." Distract, then conquer! She is learning from her tactics classes. She turns to hang on to the size of the pool, treading water a little with her feet while kind of dangling there halfway between the deep end and the shallow end. "She heals up fast, though. Unless we've got someone with magical healing powers, I stick to diving boards and more mundane, boring dives." She grins to Gabby, sending a splash her way. "Got some more of those beef ribs going, if you're hungry."

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney grins a bit at Max giving a shrug. "I think it's because I learned how to do flips first. I tend to tuck and roll a bit too much when I try to dive. I mean it's great for belly flops but not so much for, you know." She makes a motion with her hand swooping it into the waters surface. "Diving gracefully. I'll get it some day I'm sure." Her tongue sticks out at Kass in response to the splash. Hooking both elbows on the back of the pool edge she brings her feet up to kick some splashes back with a laugh. "I will never not say yes to ribs."

Maxwell Wave has posed:
"Lockkheed is adorable enough that he deserves every sandwich he pilfers anyway." Max adds, "As for healing, I haven't met one of us yet that does that, but Dr. McCoy does amazingly as an MD in a pinch and the medical facilities here are top notch. Not that I really want to take part in that hospitality again."

He shields his face from the water as he is collateral damage for splash. He dives and emerges just a little bit further away to avoid the fallout of the aqua feud. "Flips are hard. I can cheat... and I still think they are hard."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
The doors leading into the school make a small creak when opened, allowing a body to access the area. It is a small body, so the door doesn't need to open a lot. Eyes glancing about, a pale faced redhead slips out the doors, wearing a pale sea-green skirt and a cream top. No shoes, bare feet on the paths.

The voices coming from the pool area cause her eyes to glance that direction; she pauses, then goes to the archway and peeks around the corner to see what is happening. A furtive glance upward verifies that it is likely pool weather. She bites her lower lip, then leans out a bit further.

When she faceplants on the path from leaning out too far, she becomes noticeable. Sputtering out grass and dirt fixes the sound issue as well.

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
Kassandra, Gabby, and Maxwell are all in the pool, in various states of swimsuit that they've chosen, and two of them are currently being assaulted by Gabby and her kicks of doom! Kassandra can't help but laugh a little, shielding her face with one hand, the lights in the pool making it a wonderful night, the heated pool warm and the cool evening keeping any sorts of bugs away.

Not that Rahne is a bug, of course. The flying ones that normally torment swimmers in the summer? That's what's not here. Still.

Looking over at the splat and the spluttering, Kassandra pushes herself up on the edge of the pool and waves. "Hey there!" she calls. "Come on over. Water's warm and conversation is wonderful." So far.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney nods solemnly as she ceases her splashing for now. "Lockheed deserves all the food tributes. He let me pet him! So cute." She lets her elbows slip off the edge of the pool again leaving her half-floating in her shorts and t-shirt. Totally swimsuit material right here. She had an aaactual swimsuit but that would have required going to get it from her room and she would have missed the perfect cannonball opportunity. When the sputtering comes she bobs back to treading water so she can lift her head just a bit straining to see who it was... "Rahne! Come on and join us!" She greets cheerily with one arm shooting up to wave. At least until she sinks down again due to lack of treading. Oop.

Maxwell Wave has posed:
Max turns towards the person who face planted nearby. Oddly enough, he seemed to react before the sound of sputtering. He winces, "Oof.. I bet that didn't feel good. Yea, come on in. Water is great as always."

Despite his welcome, his glowing eyes might be just a little eerie in the pool, the light reflecting off droplets of water on his cheek bones and shimmering along the surface of the water. He makes for a friendly but spooky Pool Ghost.

The effect ends when he closes his eyes, disappearing into the depths only to emerge yet again a few feet away. Eyes opening, and thus once more casting a glow, he offerings a greeting, "I'm Max by the way. I've attended a few backyard BBQ events here.... so sorry if I forgot anyone I've met before." He points at Gabby, "You I remember as an ice cream fiend."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
The name used by Gabby, if said correctly, sounds like Rain. There is a soft 'h' in there, but it is difficult for one to hear without careful attention. Unlike the girl who drags herself off the grass and path and tries to get some of the residue off of her skirt with broad swipes.

"Ah," she says eloquently. She glances up, seeing Gabby vanishing under the water, and her face screws up into a soft willing concern. Emotions are up front, easy to see.

Now try the accent. "Ah dornt ken hoo tae..ah mean, nae wearin' a suit. Ur comfortable wi' a body." Pause. "Aam sayin' all ay thes it loud, arenae?" She slowly slips her hands behind her back, trying to strangle her own wrists. Shut up, shut uuuuup.

Visibly she breathes, then says, "Am sorry. Hi."

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
Kassandra looks to Gabby, bobbing in the water, and the glowing-eyed ghost of the pool, then over to Rainy standing there by the edge of the pool. "I'm in a suit, he's in a suit." A thumb jerks towards Maxwell. "Gabby's in shorts and a shirt. We all have bodies so yeah. Pretty sure swimming's swimming, no matter what'cha decide t' wear." The brunette grins and slips back into the heated pool, bobbing to the surface after a second. "Come on in. Water's fine, um, Rane?" She glances to Gabby, as if to ask, silently, 'did I say it right?'

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney bloops a single time beneath the water before regaining her treading posture that requires two arms. She's none the worse for wear--just a bit wetter. Even so she's grinning. "Ah, then just sit on the edge and soak your feet. It feels great in this heat!" she assures to the hesitant mutant. Looking to the others she grins broader at Max's remark. "Naturally. Icecream is awesome. Though I've been told I'm unfortgettable, too. ... Sometimes with groans accompanying it, at least from my roommate." Her eyes narrow to ponder on the implications of this just for a moment. Meh. There's a little hand-wobble in response to Kass's look. It was close. "But yeah just do what you're comfortable with either way."

Maxwell Wave has posed:
"Well, if you don't know how to swim. This is a school... So no better place to learn. Also there's always the shallows." Max adds optimistically. "As for comfort, no pressure. You do you, Rane."

Max treads over to the edge of the pool and hoists himself up to sit. Slicking his hair back and pushing water off his chest with his hands, he sighs in a relaxed state. "Ah, a dip was what I needed."

Chuckling toward Gabby, he nods. "Infamous by deeds it would seems. Except for the eyes, I think I'm pretty forgettable most days."

He stretches his arms over head and then lays backwards on ground, staring skyward again.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne lifts her head and looks at Kassandra. She nods, agreeing with Gabby when she's asked. About the name. She'll answer to anything though. She walks into the pool area, finally, and hunches down next to the pool. She carefully, given her prior clumsiness, and puts a hand into the pool experimentally.

The smile that brushes over her features is instant and brightens her heart. "Oh, tha' be nice!"

She glances at Max as he slips out of the pool, then firmly moves her eyes away from his exposed upper body. Nope, not lookin'.

She stands up, glancing to Gabby and giving a smile that says so many things, including a memory of welcome from their last meeting. Then she walks around the pool, looking around.

"Et be mos'ly tha ah be mumblemumble," she says, trying to talk and failing. Embarrassed. You know, because what else could she have said?

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
Well, that's something. Kassandra grins as Rahne tests the water and very pointedly does not splash the red-haired woman, glancing to the other two in the pool. "Okay then. Gabby? Max?" She looks from one to the other. "I'm making an executive decision. We all face away until Rahne is in the pool, and when Rahne hits the water, we can turn around and go on. Sound good?" This is specifically to save the woman the ordeal of being stared at while she gets ready to leap into the water.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney hesitates a bit at that only to shrug. "I'm fine with it. I mean heck, I had nine sisters. We didn't exactly have privacy in our room. So like... whatever?" Though she does turn around in case Rahne would like to hop in. It didn't bother her at all. She hums a little bit while doing so just staring off into space. Hmm.

Maxwell Wave has posed:
Sitting up, Max looks at the surface of the water and then leans forward, scooping his hands into it. Lifting cupped hands of water, his eyes glow just a little brighter before the water begins to float into the air. The phenomenon is strangely similar to various videos of water in space.

He amuses himself by poking it and nudging it into a more perfect sphere. "You and me both. If we weren't on the mansion grounds, I'd be a complete wallflower right now. Social anxiety is a very real thing... but I've learned its not needed here. Well mostly, if I was a student... I might feel differently. I mean.. I remember high school. You poor things."

Max glances toward Kassandra and then flicks the water sphere toward Gabby like a water balloon in revenge for all the earlier kick splashing. He then slips back into the water and turns around. "Eyes averted captain."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
And there is the sound of someone entering the water then. But it's perhaps anticlimactic, because when folks turn to look, Rahne hasn't dove into the pool. She apparently just sat down and put her feet in, on the edge.

The sound of her choking as she sees the water balloon heading for Gabby is perhaps a bit more interesting than her attempt at exhibitionism, though her thighs are slightly exposed now.

"Ah was goin' tae ask her abou...na'ermind." She puts her face in her hands and peeks through the cracks between.

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
A woman's thighs slightly exposed? What next? her Stomach? Shoulders? decolletage? THE SCANDAL is almost UNSPEAKABLE!

Which is why it's not going to be spoken of in the least. "This place is better than most high schools I've been in. Trick like that?". Kassandra gestures to Max. "Social pariah at the very least. Here? it's just cool..." She sinks down into the water a little, just her eyes above the surface. blub blub blub and starts to swim over to where the redhead Gaelic gal sits. "I'm Kassandra. I don't think we've met?"

Gabby Kinney has posed:
*SPLOOSH* Gabby takes it right to the head. With true melodramatic flair she squeaks out, "Attack from the Starboard port! We're taking on water! Going down!" And she dips beneath the water again with a little, unnecessary, blub of air bubbles. It's completely okay though as she swims underwater to the other side of the pool. Splashing to the surface again with a laugh she flips her hair back over her shoulders again. "Told you it's nice though. We can get you a swimsuit later if you want, Rahne. Or just trunks and a t-shirt. Works for me."

Maxwell Wave has posed:
"Glowing eyes and other tricks outside? Yea, social pariah would be a good day. Though I know I'm preaching to the choir here about being different." Max comments as he turns back around. He gives Rahne a brief peek but doesn't ogle or leer.

Gabby gets a salute, as he announces in fake Navy speak, "Sir, we've sunk the enemy battleship. We are avenged. May their souls rest peaceful in the depths of the abyss."

He hoists himself out of the water once more and roams over to the table where his towel is. "Yea, do whatever works for you. Seriously. I mean.. I kept my goggles on for days before I realized it wasn't needed here."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne looks at Max's eyes. She blinks, but that's all. Some drama reaction, there. Then she looks down at Kassandra, nearer to her and asking a question. It does seem that the little raincloud is one of those introverted types. Needs to be drawn out a bit.

"I'm.." She pauses, clearly about to say 'I'm Rahne', and blushes as she realizes. "Um, blessed tae meet ye. Both o' ye," she adds, glancing up at Max, and smiling. If it seems to be a tiny smile, well then it fits the rest of her.

She looks to Gabby then, and as she lets her right foot trail through the water in little circles, she asks something as a distraction from answring HERS. "Ye had ..nine sisters? Laird be, how?"

Well, she actually is curious.

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
There's the pun of 'when a man and a woman love each other very much, blah blah blah' that could be said, but judging from the way Gabby talks about her sisters in the past tense and the fact that there aren't any more running around here, leads Kassandra to believe such a comment would be in bad taste. So, instead, she hangs on to the side of the pool and moves attention from Rahne to Gabby to Max, following whoever's talking with small movements of her head.

"This place is a blessing to all of us." Kassandra smiles, looking up into the clear sky, the stars twinkling just so. "The company's the best part. Gettin' to talk wit' people who know what'cha goin' through? Nothin' like a little shared adversity t' bring folks t'gether."

Yes, her twang is starting to show up. She's relaxed.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
"Oh, that's easy," Gabby responds in a flippant way. It's rattled off quickly. From memory and without touching on too many details because... "We're clones. We were made and raised in a lab and then we escaped when some of us started dying off from experiements, and I turned out to be a mutant, and they helped me get here where it's safe and I heard Kass is making ribs?" A small bit of deflection there as she hadn't given out all the details. Just. A bit. People usually looked at her weird when she gave a full explanation. She keeps treading water with one hand resting on the edge of the pool as if she weren't ready yet to decide to come out or not.

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
Kassandra Pagonis is making ribs, in fact. Smoker was on the back lawn working. Probably could smell it coming in.

Maxwell Wave has posed:
The small smile is welcomed with a normal one. He nods to Rahne. "Likewise."

His eyeglow shifts from blue to green as he towels himself off. He nods again in agreement. "Understanding and safety. Haters show up here, and they leave with some bruises. That's for sure. Also, this place is blessed because it is full of good people."

Max blinks, quenching the glow a few times as he listens to Gabby. That was the first time he'd caught that particular story. He gestures her direction and looks to Rahne, "See. We all have a story. I, myself, was relocated to Bushwick after being falsely accused of starting an earthquake. I'm technically on some strange form of probation... a criminal for being born, but not here, under these stars.. in this company."

"So yea, hope you get comfortable. Everyone deserves to relax and come down off high alert every now and then." He might be projecting, but he assumes the shyness comes from the standard mutant abuse.

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne was lifting her nose to sniff at the air, until Gabby started explaining. She went very quiet then, unwilling to interrupt. Unwilling to even breathe in case it interrupted. Until Gabby interrupted it herself, and Rahne kind of falls over as the tension in her gets a hockey puck to the teeth.

She scrabbles a bit, regaining balance, and proceeds to send a splash in Gabby's direction. Not a big one, she doesn't do anything big it seems.

Until she does. It's not today, but when it comes it'll likely be a doozy.

She turns to listen to Max as she starts to get out of the pool, her entire body language saying that she's listening, but a little bit less focused. She keeps modest the entire time, but offers the young man a hand when she's on two feet. "Mebbe et's time tae eat, then."

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
Looking at the nonexistent watch on her right arm, Kassandra puts on a studious expression. "They've been smoking for around eight hours, so they're probably about ready to come off, if you're hungry. Made enough for Gabby, Logan, and a few other healthy appetites. Vegetarians need not apply, although I can throw portabella mushrooms on or something if they really want the taste." Pushing off with her feet, Kassandra floats out into the middle of the pool, kind of past Gabby which, on second thought, is probably not the smartest thing to do since she'll inevitably get dunked but, hey, that's what friends do in pools.

Gabby Kinney has posed:
Gabby Kinney takes the splash from Rahne with a laugh. At least she's able to turn her emotions around pretty quickly. She wasn't called 'gabby' for no reason in that respect. She could babble with the best of them. "I'm good for food, though I should probably go change. I hear wet clothes make you lose body temp real quick and I don't wanna accidentally get hypothermia or something weird." Right? Right. Or it could just be wet clothes feel weird in general. Ignoring the VERY TEMPTING target that was Kass she hops out onto the edge of the pool dripping watever eveywhere. "Have fun!" She urges before scampering off.

Maxwell Wave has posed:
Max shakes the offered hand gently then resumes toweling off. He gazes over his shoulder toward the smoker and hums. "You know... That really smells great, but I already made a pig of myself earlier. Though if there's leftovers, I'll totally snag them out of the frig later."

Gazing toward Kassandra, he blinks. "Wow, you must have put a whole herd in there to feed those two yet alone more."

He pats his flat stomach. "Anyway, got to stay in fighting shape, but I will definitely steal a bit if it survives those voracious appetites."

Tossing the towel over his shoulder, he grins. "Nice meeting you all. I'm going to take a nap before I go on an early morning walk through Bushwick."

With that, he turns and heads toward the inside of the mansion.

Kassandra Pagonis has posed:
And that leaves Rahne and Kassandra at the pool. Swimming over now that Max and Gabby have headed out, she tips her head towards the smoker. "C'mon. Plenty for all." she says as she pushes herself out, wrapping herself in the towel. "Ah'm gonna be annoyed if ya jus' take a bite an' head out."

Rahne Sinclair has posed:
Rahne smiles. "Rest easy," she says softly. "On tha', a'least." She says this with a smile, with a hidden threat of sorts. And with a step and a bit of a tickle, to urge Kassandra towrd the smoker faster. Oh, she has been smelling that food for hours. And you know, if needed she can always...

But that's for another night.
