Catching up on affairs
Date of Scene: 16 April 2021
Location: Tessa's Suite - Hellfire Club
Synopsis: Shaw updates a returning Tessa on matters concerning Emma Frost, and the upcoming Cherry Blossom Festival.
Cast of Characters: Sebastian Shaw, Tessa

Sebastian Shaw has posed:
It is the end of the day, a fairly long day, but it has come to an end nonetheless. Shaw knocks twice at Tessa's door, and then lets himself in. He owns the building and, well, he and Tessa have an understanding about these things, "I am glad to see you're back from your trip. I hope it went well, and you were able to..recharge a bit?" he asks, before he comes to a stop and leans against one of the cabinets in the kitchen, "Mind if I grab a drink?" he asks. He is dressed in a robe, slippers, very professional way to greet your personal assistant who lives right next door to you.

Tessa has posed:
Say what you want about Tessa Fox, no one can accuse her having idle hands. Even this late, having so recently landed from a flight after being away, Tessa is doing work of a sort. When Shaw enters the room, Tessa has her back to him, comparing two neatly hung blazers - one cut for a man, one cut for a woman - working ahead of time to not only choose Shaw's outfit for tomorrow, but, as always, making sure her own attire is... coordinated with his, color-wise.

She has, privately, been accused of being Shaw's accessory. They're not wrong, in some ways. Just in ways they probably don't expect.

Tessa had subtly straightened up when Shaw knocked on her door, and makes no complaint or mention of him letting himself in. She speaks in a tightly controlled, professional voice that's oddly comforting in a way, when she replies: "Relaxation was low on my priority list, Sir."

Tessa turns her head, craning her neck slightly to look at Shaw over her shoulder with the faintest hint of a smile. "But the weather was nice." Tessa hangs the two garments in her closet, and turns around to face Shaw properly, giving a slight respectful bow of her shoulders. "It's good to home, Sir, thank you." She acknowledges, and then nods her head at Shaw's question, gesturing to the bar with one hand and saying, simply, "Of course."

As if there was a chance that Tessa would deny something from Sebastian Shaw.

Sebastian Shaw has posed:
The drink he pours for himself is a heavy dollop of top shelf gin, mixed with a bit of tonic to give it some bubbly. He smiles at Tessa as she talks about the brief vacation she took. "I am sure it was Ms. Fox. You deserved it. Especially after helping with Mardi Gras, which was, very well done. But, now, back to work." His tone is lighter than usual, even when he tells her it's back to work. He knows of the people who work for him at the Club, there are few who are as unthinkingly loyal to him as Tessa.

He walks over to the table in her dining room, and pulls out a chair, "Join me, there are some things that are happening, and have happened in your absence that I wish to discuss." He does not ask twice, nor does he look to make sure that she is doing as he's told, he knows she will be where he wants in a moment. He takes a long sip of his drink, and then asks, "How much of the news were you able to keep up on while you were away?" His gaze settling on her.

Tessa has posed:
Tessa has one hand on her tie, seemingly about to remove it now that it's the end of a long day, only to stop when Shaw bids her to sit with him. It seems she's still working right now. She doesn't complain. It's not like her brain will shut up enough for her to sleep properly for a few hours anyway.

Tessa pulls out a chair and sits near Shaw, her brow lowering a bit when she hears his question. "... Not much, I'm afraid, Sir. I was... rather busy." She says, with a hint of discomfort in her voice. It's generally her job to be on top of these things and report them, so the switch is a little uncomfortable for her. But, shady assets weren't going to vanish themselves.

Sebastian Shaw has posed:
"You need not remain so formally dressed Ms. Fox, if you wish to remove your tie, or other attire, I promise I will not be offended." Shaw says as he sees Tessa start to work her tie as she comes to sit. He considers what to say next, "I think, perhaps we start with the more vexing news. Ms. Frost has found enough allies to build for herself a hotel that it seems she plans on running in the vein of Frost Industries. I do not believe she means to challenge the club, but she clearly has designs about re-entering elite society again. I wish to kick over her anthill hovel of a hotel, but I fear that doing so openly would bring undue scrutiny on our operations. So, for now, I am trying to develop contacts who might act as spies within her ranks."

After that explanation, he looks over to Tessa and says, "Do you have any ideas immediately about how we might go about...frustrating Ms. Frost's plans? I do not wish to LOOK petty, but I do mean to act it for a time to remind her of what she has given up by leaving the club."

Tessa has posed:
It wasn't technically an order, but Tessa takes it like one, removing her tie and her blazer and folding them neatly before setting them far away from the both of them on the end of the table to be dealt with later; leaving her in a tailored white dress shirt.

Tessa listens intently, giving the ghost of a frown as she folds her hands in her lap. She's tempted, once again, to feel resentment towards Ms. Frost; taking this course of action after all they had done to support her... But Tessa prefers to take a clinical approach to these things. Those emotions - like most that would distract her or make her act illogically - are placed into the computer-brain equivalent of a folder and put away.

Or, as some would say, bottled up.

Her amber eyes stay fixed on Shaw as he speaks, and she need not think long on her response; only allowing a polite beat of silence to pass so that she doesn't cut him off. "There are numerous means at your disposal, Mr. Shaw. Building code violations could be 'discovered'... or arranged. Mechanical equipment could be made unreliable, repeatedly. Rival hotels could spring up in the near vicinity." Tessa tilts her head slightly, "... At very least, I'm sure that disruptive tenants could be directed her way with regularity." Tessa steeples her fingers thoughtfully. "One need not rely on a wrecking ball to make a place unlivable. As I understand it, Mr. Shaw." She adds, showing deference.

Sebastian Shaw has posed:
"I had considered that, but if you find a rat in your kitchen you built three months ago, you don't go looking for a crack in your foundation. You go looking for who put the rat in your kitchen." Shaw replies, looking...not through Tessa, but sort of past her, eyes a bit unfocused as he works through a few steps in his mind, "We could annoy her with those, yes, but Ms. Frost has done business enough to know that the easiest way around such obstacles is a payment to the right person. These would be, at best minor inconveniences I feel." He drains his glass, and then stands up to pace a bit, as he does when he's thinking.

He's made two laps around the table, trailing a finger along Tessa's shoulders once in doing so, perhaps to keep her off guard? Or maybe he's just of a mind to touch something he's missed lately. Either way, he chews his lower lip as he ponders, and then says, "I like the idea of competitors popping up around her hotel, but she's built in Mutant Town and enticing a non-affiliated company to build there seems unlikely, or cost prohibitive currently," he wants his revenge, but he's still a billionaire. No need to waste money doing it. He shakes his head, "Something to think on. I don't need answers now, but I like your ideas. He moves back to his seat and says, "The only other major bit of news that I have to pass along is that we will be holding a Cherry Blossom festival in a couple of weeks. You are expected to attend, though not in Inner Circle attire. It will be a silent auction fund raiser for...i don't think we've determined what just yet. A way to draw in our more normal clientele and make sure they are happy with the amenities. I suspect we will be having a meeting soon to discuss Ms. Frost, and the Xaviers, and the Brotherhood though."

Tessa has posed:
Tessa's shoulders raise just slightly, but she makes no comment or movements to flinch a way. If anything she smiles a little; a rare pretty smile that generally only Shaw has gotten to see. She'd be embarrassed if she noticed; she takes her composure rather seriously.

"Something to think on." She agrees, regarding Frost's projects. That said, she tilts her head thoughtfully when he goes over the cherry blossom festival, nodding slowly. "I'll be dressed appropriately, Sir." She assures him with a subtle hint of wryness to her voice, adding, "And I'll be caught up on these matters by morning." Ever-diligent Tessa, signing her night away on her first day home.

Sebastian Shaw has posed:
Sebastian Shaw chuckles, "I do not mind if you're less than perfectly properly dressed, but I think some of our guests might get the wrong idea." He then walks his glass to her sink and sets it there, before he turns to her and asks, "Any questions of me?"

Tessa has posed:
Tessa stands respectfully when Shaw is ready to leave, in Tessa's estimation. Tessa nods her head and says "Only when you wish to be woken up next morning, Mr. Shaw. Other than that... I believe I have matters covered for the night."

Sebastian Shaw has posed:
"My usual time, in my usual manner," Shaw replies to Tessa, before he turns back to her and says, "It is good to have you back Ms. Fox." There is for a moment a smile that crosses his lips that is most likely genuine.

Tessa has posed:
Tessa gives a bow of her shoulders, even though Shaw's back is turned, and returns, "A pleasure to be home. Sleep well, Sir."
