Finding a roommate
Date of Scene: 25 April 2021
Location: Madigan's Mansion of a Flat
Synopsis: Roommates
Cast of Characters: Madigan Belle, James Proudstar

Madigan Belle has posed:
There's been an ad floating around the Columbia University that is attempting to gather interest. It has a bubbly art style to it, very anime-esque, with a high quality of detail and lots of Disney Princess illustrations being used to enhance the draw on the ad. Belle says on it, "Do you love to study?" Then Cinderella pops in, "And you like people, and nice things?" And then there's Snow White dropping in, "You don't care if your room mate asks you to grab things down from the cupboard often?" And finally The Beast comes in, "But you love to eat?" Then there's a comical picture of a dragon saying, "Then fly on over to:" And it gives an address in one of the nearby apartment complexes that are on the higher end of things.

The front entrance is a pretty nice lobby, clean, a makeshift water fall, and gives off a 'hotel' vibe. The door man can easily give instructions on how to buzz up from the elevato, and if followed there's a little camera in the elevator that checks into it to see who's buzzing up. Then James will get buzzed up the elevator as well to a top floor flat. There's only 4 doors on this floor, unlike many of the others, and each one has its own kind of path to it through the halls to minimize bumping into one another on the way to or from the elevator.

Room 1003, is the door and it's partially ajar with that same exaggeratedly Disney Princess themed ad on the front. Inside, can already be heard, some Disney Music Playlist on shuffle, the smell of food that was either recently delivered or made. And the pitch of a female's voice singing to some of the lyrics.

James Proudstar has posed:
James Proudstar had beend looking for places for a while, and see some nice ones but nothing i his price range that wasn't a closet with a toilet. He is quickly finding out that the New York Real estate market is not for the faint of heart, and this is a guy who's faced demons and mutant terrorists as a day job. He whistles as he sees the waterfall and the elevator, amenities no other place has had and almost just turns around but he makes his way up to the apartment and knocks. JIm is tall over 7 feet and wider than the door frame but has kind eyes. He is dresses in a Xavier's Sweatshirt and a pair of clean jeans and shoes, worn but also freshly shined.

Madigan Belle has posed:
"CoooooooOOOoOOOOoOooome iinnnnnnnnnnnnnn." Calls out a female voice from inside the apartment. This place was being advertised as pretty cheap, especially considering how close it is to the University and how luxury based the apartment is already seeming.

Once Jim enters, though, there's well... a 108" TV on one wall, 6 different consoles hooked up to it, an LED discoball of a Desktop that ... if Jim knows computers, is clearly some pricey gaming PC that's multi-colored. And a big L-shaped couch. The kitchen is a chef's delight and is spotless, because Madi doesn't ever cook her own meals, and the fridge is big and probably full of stuff. There's a dining area and an open floor plan, and at least 3 different exits to rooms on different sides of the flat. It's big, and has its own personal balcony if someone wants to overlook the city at all, with some balcony styled all weather multi-thousand dollar furniture out there.

At a table, with a large amount of Chineese food, Indian food and clearly some fast food finger foods is a redhead. She's struggling at the moment, getting herself to her feet, a big 17" gaming laptop sitting on the table where she was eating over it and playing games, grabbing a nearby crutch she starts to make her way toward the door. Leg braces lock with every 'step' as she sways her hips to move her legs, and uses the crutch to keep balance. "Hellooooooo. Are you here for the room? I mean, totally, right? Otherwise you are breaking in to steal all my food, maybe kidnap me, that's fine. I don't complain much. How are you? Madi's my name, glad to meet you. Wow, you are pretty big, that's cool, I'm not, wasn't expecting a hunkish fella to respond to the disney princess ad, but hey, we all like good things. Right? I love the princesses, they are woooooOOOoOOnderful. Professional artist, was hired, to draw the illustrations, so no copyright breakage there. Not that I'd care, you do what you do in your own room, I won't peek..." A whirlwind of words that far outpace her slow going to the door.

James Proudstar has posed:
James Proudstar nods slowly talking it all in, looking from the apartment to the ad, to the girl and back you can see him doing the math and then he checks the door making sure the number is right cause that is a possibility. Jim isn't that knoledgeable about computers other than to recognize a computer that looks like Doug or KItty would own it and is therefore high end. James moves quickly to assist the girl, startlingly quickly, and then realizes his mistake moving a bit to slowly to compensate which only makes it more obvious.

"Oh, Umm, hi, yes, I'm Jim Proudstar. I left a message? No, no, I'm here for the apartment, I start at Columbia in the fall, in the School for Social Work. I was looking to pick up some credits over the summer and wanted a place to crash when I couldn't make it home... I, this is so much more than I can afford. I don't want to waste your time, I think the price you put down is a misprint?"

Madigan Belle has posed:
Quick? Quicker than a normal person, maybe, but Madigan pretty easily watches the speed up. She doesn't comment on it though, but maybe gives a look. Her expressive nature does give away a bit of smirk, a big grin, and a sideways glance to the speediness it just doesn't come to her voice, "Ohhh, I've gotten a ton of messages. Well, not really. I think the Disney Princesses scared people away." A bit of a scoffish huff, "People. Am I right? So, most important question for you..." She's waving a hand in your direction when you are talking about price, "Who is your favorite Disney Princess, and why?" Madi gives a squinty eyed look, really penetratingly comical how her brow furrows, one eye stays open more than the other, and she stage-whispers, "I don't make mistakes." It is meant to sound serious, but the way she can't help but still smile some, biting her lower lip while she makes an almost Spock-like inquisitive look probably leaves something to be desired for her 'seriousness'.

James Proudstar has posed:
James Proudstar has basically grown up with 6 sisters for the last five years and he is still not quite sure where to put this new girl. He looks at her seriously, not showing at all whether he wants to laugh or not, he nods slowly, considering, "Well, is Padme an option? if not, then I would say Moana, I know Pocahontas might be the more traditional answer for my people, but I really think her abject sexualization and white washing was a hard pill to swallow, where as it seems in MOana, Disney did a much better job of incorporating the indigenous culture... Also the music is better." He nods.

Madigan Belle has posed:
The response gets a moment of ridiculous looking before a big smile. Madigan nods her head a few times, "Very impressive Mister Jim Proudstar. Very impressive indeed." She keeps her eyes partially closed, as she stands as tall as she can, which still is multiple feet below your height, and is trying to 'look down' at you inquisitively before she turns back to the table. "Want to eat something and we can sign some forms?" Then she's starting to move again, back toward the table, and all the food, like, multiple families worth of food. "That is probably the best answer I've heard, and sure, Padme can count, though Natalie Portman was paired poorly with that ... guy. I think Darth Vader was way better. Sexier voice, was more robot, and less emotionless. Moana is a great pick though, not that there's an Irish princess that I can pick from, but I feel it, yo." Sitting is less of a chore than getting up, all she has to do is hang her crutch on the back of her seat, get wiggled around, and then drop.

James Proudstar has posed:
James Proudstar nods, and smiles, "Yes, It was particularly ridiculous with the little boy. Yeah, Padme was more a crush then a princess selection." He chuckles softly, watching her his sense taking in every detail, "The girl from Brave is Scottish? Hunh, that does seem an oversight. Thank you, it was sort of off the cuff." James smiles, and inspects the boxes carefully sniffing the food, reassured by the take out nature of the meal.

Madigan Belle has posed:
It's certainly takeout, and some of it better than others. More graded by flavor than perhaps healthiness, and she settles, waving a hand over to another chair nearby or across the way. This kitchen table could sit 8 people comfortably, more if they were squished. "Yeaaaaaah. I mean, seriously, they talk about redheads in Scotland, and it's kind of true. A good portion of the world's red heads are there, but that's mostly because of the same genetic background as the Irish. Ireland, however, has significantly more percentage of its population being redheads which is where we get the stereotype from. Something like only 2-3 percent of Scotland is redhead, and more like 5-10 percent in Ireland. Both groups kind of have similar origins. Oh, I'm Irish, if that wasn't clear. That's why I just kind of rambled on that." She grins big, suddenly again, and then wonders, "You want to know anything about me? I assure you the price isn't bizarre, I just hate living alone. I want to use the top cupboards, and you'd be totally worthwhile to have as a room mate. I don't need the money, but I find if you don't charge -something- you really don't get people who feel accountable."

James Proudstar has posed:
James Proudstar nods letting the words wash over him, again this is man who ostensibly had 6 sisters for most of his teens and nowhere to hide. He picks a few things out, and makes a little plate far to small for such a large individual, "Are you going to the college as well? What's your major? Do you have a secret lab in the basement? I'm Apache, that makes sense and the price is more than fair, which room would be mine?"

Madigan Belle has posed:
"Room?" A pause, Madigan hadn't gotten that far, she likes one over the other for sure, but the other one is bigger. She quirks her mouth to the side, and wiggles her jaw back and forth as her lips pout together, moving left to right. "Ummm, undecided. There's no secret lab here, that'd be dumb." A little shake of her head, as her eyes roll, "And Apache? That's cool, I think? Is it okay to think that's cool? Maybe it isn't? Just don't meet a lot of native peoples about so much anymore, all us foreigners really did a number..." Her eyes get big and she lets her mouth drop a little, "I totally didn't mean to say that, I sometimes, my mouth just goes where it goes, and I have no control over it. Sorry."

"Me, though, my major. Yeah, I'm totally into Genetics, I almost have my Ph.D. If I could sit down and get a few minutes to finish up my thesis, I could then submit it, wait for all the dummies to review it, and then ask me questions in public, while I'm all dressed up and prettified. Then, bam. Doctor Madigan Belle. You? What's, uh, your major?" She's grinning again, big, teeth showing as she forks some food into her mouth from at least 3 cultures.

James Proudstar has posed:
James Proudstar raises his eyebrows at that with a bit of a grin, "So, where is the secret lab if here is dumb?" He sighs as you speak and winces in a white people gonna white sort of way, but when he speaks there isn't anger, there isn't bravado, he's studied these things, "It is okay for Apache's to be cool. We were the most successful horse raiders in history and forced a global super power to bring all its resources to bear in the effort to quell our resistance, a few tens of thousands more and we might have broke them." He fishes out a box of noodles, pad thai and mixes it with lo mein, then finds a random plate of chicken parm. And takes a large helping, he mirrors you as he forks some food into his mouth. "Yeah, you don't see that many of us outside the reservations and casinos. It's almost like the systemic effort to erase our people was succesful. Yes, between the forced migrations and biological terrorism, campaigns of hate and all out war, you foreigners really did a number... " He meets your gaze, and his gaze is strong but you don't feel rage, there's an appreciation, "Least you admit you're the foreigners, that gets you points."

Munches, as you speak, he nods, "So, your in Genetics, you've read the work of Charles Xavier and Henry McCoy? Your familiar with mutants? Is that part of your thesis?" James smiles and meets your gaze, "I'm no brainiac scientist, I'm majoring in social work. I want to give back for the community. I did some volunteering in Mutant Town after the riots, the community needs resources, that's what I want to do." He lets his gaze linger on your for a moment, and he sees you for the first time, not that he hadn't smelled you, and listened to your heart, seen the tension in your muscles but until this moment you were a collection of words and odd behavioral ticks, he's seeing you as a full person, honestly he's checking you out.

Madigan Belle has posed:
"I'm not a big history nerd or anything, so you'd know better, but it sounds like they were warrior types. I'm super big into warriors of the past, like Chengiss Khan, he's probably like one of my heroes." A pause and she looks around slowly, wide-eyed, "I'm really saying terrible things. I mean, like, he was super culturally inclined. For his people, probably one of the greatest leaders and warriors of all time. Just, for... uh, everyone else..." She grimaces, big, her mouth opening and she furrows her brows some, "I just, like, well, because of all of his, um, well, forced, uh genetic, spreading. He um, is very useful to dating people and their genetic traits. Without him, we'd be a lot harder to track backwards."

And she takes in a deep breath, "I just... speak my mind, really, I hope that doesn't bother you?" And she huffs out a breath that causes her red locks to bounce about her face. "I've definitely read up on mutants, so cool. Like, way better than baseline humans. I mean, they are our future and the rest of us are just going to die off unable to defend ourselves against the latest and greatest threats. I mean, aliens, super tech, its all coming down." She chuckles a bit, shaking her head a little, and then adds on, "Oh? Social ... work... uh..." She quirks her mouth to the side, "That sounds... um, interesting..." Looking anywhere but back at you for the time as she adds, "Doctor McCoy? I've read everything he has online or in print, but Xavier? Nope, he seems... less, sciency and more moral-y oriented. I'm more into science than morals."

A quick touch on the last thing mentioned, "And yeah. I'm totally a foreigner. I mean, if you've ever heard Irish, you'd think we are all aliens. Though, I'd rather just blend in..." She taps her crutch a moment, "But, ya know. I have standoutish accessories."

James Proudstar has posed:
James Proudstar nods as you talk about apaches as warriors, then tilts his head and smiles as you mention an inclination towards warriors, "Only of the past? How sad." He nods, "No, I get it, warriors have a drive and women in general are attracted to power in all the forms it takes but a warrior's power in particular can make you feel safe, the greatest Apaches warriors had multiple wives and the greater the more wives, so it makes sense Chengiss would leave a large genetic footprint. He was also a great leader from a certain perspective, like Magneto in a more modern sense or Geronimo."

Jim shakes his head and smiles, "No not at all, as long as you are ready to defend your opinions, I am use to a variety of viewpoints, I grew up in a big family. That is a good way to see them, but I hope we have learned a thing or two since cro-mag times." H ewatches you and doesn't try to change your mind in the moment, people in ivory towers are sometimes to last to embrace an idea. "Try Xavier's early stuff, look for Moira Mactaggert, they're work set the ground work for everything Hank has down." Jim smiles, "I don't know, I know and Irish girl and I cold listen to her sing for hours and yeah, Irish reheads are... special is a word." He chuckles, she taught me some gaelic, what was it? Is feidir liom gach braon a bhlean o bho.

Madigan Belle has posed:
There's a bit of a pause as Madigan listens to you talk, and she nods her head, "Oh, I like modern warriors too. They are totally sexy, killing people or fighting, doesn't matter to me. I saw this fight recently where this guy just beat up this other guy." She is grinning and her eyes are kind of crazy wide open, "It was so... cool. I had blood on my tank top, I was so close to the ring." And she nods, "I've heard of Magneto and whatever, but I try and avoid the news. They are always biased against people just trying to defend their people. Especially if the news is created by the opposing side. Not to say he's a 'good guy' or anything like that, just, I don't think we give him a fair shake."

After that though she runs her fingers up into her hair, and she shrugs, "I'd say I would, but he turns me off. Xavier, that is, I mean. I want to read the science and make up my own mind." Though she smirks and rolls her eyes, "Really? Like, an irish girl singing. That's like an Apache in a casino. Come on. And we don't really call it gaelic. WE call it Irish. The English and the Scots called it Gaelic, and now we have to be 'Irish Gaelic' which it has more historical roots and connection with Old French, us first, than Gaelic." A pause and then she listens to what you say and she bites the tip of her tongue, just on the verge of giggling. "I prefer an braon deireanach a bhlean o tharbh."

James Proudstar has posed:
James Proudstar shifts in his chair at your reaction to his questions about modern warriors , his lips are suddenly dry, and he swallows, he opens his mouth to speak, then closes it. Then snorts, a little at the idea of rings, and rules, though the blood on your tanktop image stays with him. As does curiosity about a girl he wouldn't have to hide his double digit body count from. "So, you wouldn't mind if I stowed some weapons here?" The comment is off handed but he does stretch expansively. "Erik is not a good man, but he does get things done, he is big picture oriented and a it to strident but based on his lived experience I can't blame him, I know the urge, bring blood to theirs." James shrugs, "But there are some who are friends and useful acquittances." James nods smiles as it seems Madi has a type, "You don't? Interesting, Terry never mentioned." James smiles loving to learn new phrases, "Oh? What does that mean?"
