Microwaveable Hot Fudge
Date of Scene: 12 May 2021
Location: Stephanie Brown Apt - University Apartments
Synopsis: Stephanie introduces Cassandra to hot fudge sundaes
Cast of Characters: Stephanie Brown, Cassandra Cain

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Stephane sends two messages to Cassandra's phone. Both of them are pictures. One of them is a plastic bottle so dark brown it's nearly black. On the front of it is a picture of ice cream with hot fudge on it. And then the second picture is an actual picture of ice cream with hot fudge on it. Not one that Stephanie took, but one that she just grabbed somewhere to forward.

After that, Stephanie eyes the bottle of microwaveable hot fudge, reading the directions for how long to heat it up before applying it to ice cream. "Got the ice cream, three flavors worth, plus cherries, and whipped cream, and hot fudge," she says, smiling. "I hope Cass likes it. She doesn't eat this kind of stuff normally," she says to herself.

She also has their reading stuff set out on the coffee table.

Cassandra Cain has posed:
Cassandra has finished her goal for the day, which was to work out enough to actually feel it. She's showered, she's wiped her leathers off, she's wound her hair into a knot that'll take scissors to undo. She checks her phone.

The arrival at the door is a rare treat. Cassandra using manners, waiting to be let in instead of breaking and entering. She doesn't knock though, she instead sends a celphone picture of Stephanie's front door, with her own face halfway in the frame.

She's expecting fudge. She shall get BETRAYAL!

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Stephanie grins at the picture and walks over to peek out the door, opening it carefully and half-expecting Cassandra to pounce on her as a training exercise or something. "Cass," she says, her face lighting up so brightly at the sight of her friend. One doesn't need to be as skilled in reading body language as Cass is to interpret that friendly smile. "Come on in," she says, motioning Cassandra inside.

Stephanie will close the door behind her and lock it and then head over to the freezer. "I saw hot fudge you can do at home. Not Hershey's Chocolate sauce, but actual hot fudge," she says, pretending to swoon. Stephanie begins getting out the ice cream flavors and other ingredients for the sundaes. The bowls and spoons are already set out on the kitchen counter.

Cassandra Cain has posed:
The easiest thing for Cassandra is to simply come inside, blow a loose strand of hair out of her face, and then to proceed to ignore all the extraneous verbiage that Stephanie is adding to her conversation. The content, such as 'Hershey's' and 'swooning' are both given slightly raised eyebrows, rather as if someone had just started telling one about their imaginary friend.

Again.

Glancing at the bowls as Stephanie starts in on her new hobby, homemade sugar in brown gravy, Cass looks past them and spots the reading materials. She instantly makes a distasteful face, then leans over and picks up a spoon. She waggles it in Steph's direction, her entire features quirking into mild amusement. You didn't tell me that part, sister.

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Stephanie Brown has also had training from Barbara on reading expressions, though with Cass it is more familiarity than training that catches the reaction to the reading materials. "Well, something to do while we eat," she says with a grin for Cass.

There is vanilla ice cream, mint chocolate chip, and chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Stephanie gets a little of each into her bowl. Then she heats up the hot fudge in the microwave, and gives it a try squirting some out on the ice cream. "Looks just like at the ice cream shop," she says with a grin. She pours a little on her finger to taste and then passes the bottle over to Cass.

Cassandra Cain has posed:
The oddest thing about Cass, from a list of many many other odd things, is her general lack of sugar in her diet. She normally doesn't touch the stuff and only recently tried chocolate for the first time. Ever. In her life. It was quite the experience for her, and a bit stunning for those involved.

Still as Steph builds ice cream creations, Cassandra walks over to the papers. Sits, then picks up a book. Her eyes narrow, her brow furrows. Then she starts making noises, the offer from Stephanie going unnoticed. Not that she'd know what ice cream shop products look like anyway.

"Uh. Eh. Ih?" Pause, and she purses her lips. "Ihhh. Kuh, Ihhduh? Ihhtuh." Another beat, and she sighs. Then she pulls at her hair knot a moment, and yanks it hard enough to move her skull slightly.

"It. Yuh...vuh... It vus? Was?" She looks up, past the offered bottle, and looks at Stephanie. Then she holds out the page for confirmation.

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Stephanie Brown figured she might have to make the sundae for Cass. She keeps it a small one and doesn't go too overboard on the toppings. A half scoop of each flavor, a bit of hot fudge, a tiny line of whipped cream on one side and a maraschino cherry on top.

The blond coed brings the two bowls over and takes a seat beside Cass. She smiles and nods. "It was," she agrees, saying the words slowly enough Cass can focus on the pronunciation. When Cass is ready for it, Stephanie passes over her ice cream, spoon already in the sundae. And then she starts in on hers.

Cassandra Cain has posed:
Cass takes the bowl absently, leaning over to nudge against Steph with her version of a thank you. She's quite eloquent, if you know how to listen. Under the table, Cass reaches out to touch Stephanie's foot with her own, if she can reach it. Little things like that are how she shows affection.

But her eyes are on the paper.

"It wass," she says, agreeing. "Haa," she adds, frowning. Fighting with this one, she takes her spoon. She gets some hot fudge, fresh out of the microwave, and continues with the word. Kindergarten words, but all she can do. "Haaat. It was..hat," she says, then adds a bit of unintentional physical impetus to the word. By putting hot fudge directly onto her tongue.

"HOT!" she blinks, then blinks several more times in succession. She glances away from the paper to the bowl, then to Stephanie. Then she says, "It was hot," almost with confusion. to be fair, she might not realize that for the first time ever, she actually just made...sense.

Stephanie Brown has posed:
Seeing Cassandra making progress just warms Stephanie's heart. Her friend has helped her so much with Stephanie's fighting skills. To be able to give something back like this means a lot.

Stephanie is grinning when Cass looks back to her. "Yes," she says with a big nod. "It is hot," she says. Stephanie scoops up a bit of her own hot fudge, which is quite warm but probably not enough to burn a mouth, especially sitting on the ice cream as it is. She takes a taste of it and sighs. Stephanie motions to it with her spoon. "Hot... fudge," she says. Then again. "Hot fudge," as she gets some on her spoon to indicate what she's talking about.
