Seeking Advice
Date of Scene: 19 March 2020
Location: Charles' Office (Xavier's School)
Synopsis: Sam is given advice and his judgement is trusted.. or is it a test.
Cast of Characters: Samuel Guthrie, Scott Summers, Jean Grey

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie has put out word that he would like to talk to both Scott, and Jean since the Prof is not around. The young man sent in word that he had a lead on a new mutant but it is complicated.

Scott Summers has posed:
To be honest the times something like 'a lead on a new mutant' was a thing are long past. There are hundreds of known mutants in the tri-city area. Cerebro must have the psychic signatures of millions in the databanks.

So, Scott assumes Sam means 'mutant in trouble' because that is still X-Men's business. And the bulk of their operations. That the young man feels he has to talk with the team leadership means it must be a complicate case indeed.

Scott is in time to usher Sam into Xavier's office, although he has to point out. "The professor is not around, and Jean has been delayed. But I think we can start talking about the matter, she can scan my memories to catch up."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods, and looks over to Scott, and says "Ah have came into a somewhat " He pauses a moment and says "Odd, complicated situation. Ok up front, all on the table, Ah am seeing the girl Ah am going to tell you about so Ah don't want that to be a surprise. Have you heard of Alegra Caradenza? She is the daughter of Filipe Caradenza, who is head of Humanity First. The group that is trying to prove Humans can be as good if not better than Mutants. Anti Mutant, group.

Scott Summers has posed:
"Ah," Scott sits down behind Xavier's desc, giving Sam a skeptical look. "I had them pegged merely as a human pride group. Definitely anti-mutant? We need more information on them, please write a memo on them and assess resources and threat level as soon as you can."

More headaches. But mutant hate groups are known threats. They have protocols for those. Scott wrote most of them.

"I imagine this girl you are seeing is the mutant in danger in question," offers Scott. "Are her parents aware of her mutant status?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods a bit and says "Yea, pretty sure of it. I have seen the hints of it, and her reaction while denying it, it is the way she is denying it." He looks to Scott, and says "I met her in New York, she was dressed down playing her violin for a mutant charity house. We talked a bit and realized she had never met a mutant but was trying to help them. I let her know I was, but nothing about the school. Well, ended up finding out she was rich and dressing down on accident. We ended up talking some more, and found out who her dad was and such. I was thinking she may have been someone who had a decent heart, and I liked her. Well then at the Genosha remembrance, she got up gave a speech about us all getting along." He pauses to see if any questions so far.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean hmms, "That's a noble sentiment..." She says that after showing up in the doorway, stepping into the office and closing the door behind her. She looks curiously at Sam, "You think she's genuine about that, and that her father is unaware of who she really is?" She passes a glance to Scott, apparently having been tracking the conversation to date even though she wasn't there.

Scott Summers has posed:
"I misunderstood," mentions Scott, realizing something. "You mean she is hiding her powers from her parents and also from you?" Because that sure complicates things. "If this is the case you might need to give her space. Maybe introduce her to other mutants of the non-scary variety. Alison perhaps. Or Dani if she is willing to help."

He sighs as his mind goes into strategic planning. Revealing the daughter of a mutant-hater leader as a mutant could disrupt the whole operation. It would also be a dick move. It is still his job to open a file about it and draw a plan.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods, and says "Yea, that's part of it." He tells them. "Ah was worried about her, and a couple of us snuck into her birthday party slash humana event. The rehearsal went ok, but at the main thing things went a little pear shaped may have read about it in the paper. Someone dropped blackmail type photos of her dad, Power girl showed up to accuse her dad about support of the massacre. Alexis... err sorry Alegra, she was going by Alexis when she was hiding the fact she was helping mutants. Anyway Alegra stands up to Power girl about coming then and accusing her dad of supporting it and such. As she stands up to Power girl Ah am watching and all the candles around her start flaring almost a pulse beat. when Alegra noticed, she got out of there, and it stopped. Ah visit her on her birthday and she is worried for my mutant guy being around her. We talk and she gets scared and mad when Ah point out the fire, denys it, and we have a bit of a fight."

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean hmms, "Sounds like she's getting a fair amount of attention, which... isn't exactly ideal." She frowns a little, looking thoughtful, "I mean, having the daughter of an anti-mutant group be revealed as a mutant is poetic justice, but that doesn't exactly treat her with the respect she deserves."

So she looks curiously at Sam, arching a brow, "What do //you// think we should do? I mean, you have an idea of what you'd like to do?" One thing about Jean, and it's probably something she got from the Prof: Everything is a teaching opportunity.

Scott Summers has posed:
Scott glances at Jean, nodding. "There is also the possibility she is metahuman, not mutant. Jean, would you verify with Cerebro later this evening, please?"

Scott leans back, considering. Right now the public opinion is fairly favorable to mutants, because they have been victimized in unimaginable ways. Human media must have also noticed the Sentinels murdered millions of humans mercilessly to destroy Genosha. So far they are not blaming the mutants. This is a good thing, even if it is such a small step. Right now mutant hate is fairly low and the usual suspects are keeping their mouths shut.

The situation is delicate, anything could tip the balance towards worse. So, should they put this problem fully in Sam's hands? He needs a minute.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks to the two and says "Well, I ran into her a couple days later. She and Ah ended up talking some more. She was worried about leaving her dad's money and such. On the day we ran into one another we talked more, and Ah offered to help her in any way Ah could including finding a two bedroom place so she would have a place to stay. Help her in everyway I could. Her parents are recently divorced, and she said she was going to talk to her grandparents to help with rent. She has pretty much agreed to get out of her dad's house as Ah am worried about her, we have seen way to many parents react badly to mutant children. I was talking to Doug about helping me find a place, he was thinking we should bring her in. I was not sure if the situation was to that point but I figured I should bring it to youboth to clue you in.

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean hmms, "I'll check with Cerebro and make certain that she is, in fact, a mutant. But, the question then becomes... what does she want? I know you didn't mention the school, but we would need to vet her before she could be brought in." She hrms a bit, "This is going to need to be handled delicately, and she's high profile enough... bringing her in quietly is going to be pretty much impossible."

Scott Summers has posed:
Scott nods, "I think you could bring her here secretly, if needed," he notes. "Sam, I think you can handle this problem yourself. You have experience and common sense. Bring in Doug or Roberto if you need technical backup or financial aid. Keep us informed. And I do want a report on this hate group as soon as possible."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods his head a bit and says "Looking to get a place between here and New York City, once Jean has made sure she is a mutant, I will start to fill her in on what I can without filling her in on the school. I might be able to convince her to let me bring her in blindfolded but aint sure. Once I have a place and have her out of her daddy's place, would one of you two wish to come out there and meet her?

Jean Grey has posed:
Jean hmms, "I can interview her, once she's out of immediate danger, so we can figure out more about the situation. She sounds... remarkably strong-willed, so the more we find out before any actual telepathy is used makes it easier." She glances over at Scott, tilting her head and nodding a bit, a hint of a smile on her lips as he delegates the matter to Sam, for the most part.

Scott Summers has posed:
"Certainly. Although perhaps the Professor will be around, he is better than me for this kind of thing." He offers Sam a thin smile. "I don't think a blindfold is required. Just don't bring her in if you have doubts she is trustworthy."

Telepathic snooping always sounds like a good idea, but Xavier has usually been reluctant to do that kind of thing, risking trusting people on promises and honor. Perhaps for the best. The school secrecy won't be forever, it is getting too large. But as always, there are backup plans.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods a bit to the two, and says "Well, Ah appreciate the trust and I will keep you in formed, and will get the write up on Humana as soon as I can. " He rubs the back of his neck seeming to be thinking about something in the whole situation and how to handle it.
