Synopsis: A little, but mighty hero saves the day... TWICE!
Cast of Characters: Nicolai Codona, Kaida Connolly

Nicolai Codona has posed:
\    It's late, the wee hours some might call it. There isn't so much a 'good side' to Mutant Town, but this is definitely not even close. This is the bad side, the wrong side of the tracks. One really ought not be walking these parts alone at this hour. That isn't to say that it's quiet. It's the opposite actually. Sounds drift through the streets, down the alleyways, drunken laughter, arguments, tires squealing, trash cans toppling... the city isn't asleep by any means.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
It isn't something that is completely unknown to Kaida. She often walks the more seedy areas of various cities. She normally isn't in New York but here lately there's been something bad happening in Mutant Town and the place always has had a place in her heart. She isn't a mutant but she knows better than most what it is like to be different. To be looked down upon and literaly so. She knows that it must be tough to be born a different way and so, she doesn't like hearing about trouble there.

Of course, for her, walking the streets at night is hardly a danger. Other than a stray, foolish cat or two, there's little that would even try to threaten her, let alone notice her. So, as she moves along those streets, she can uniquely listen, sniff, and watch for trouble.

Nicolai Codona has posed:
Keen little ears will likely pick up on the sound before anyone with normal hearing. It's a low, desperate groan. There's fear in that sound, but also resignation. It's the sound of someone that knows they're near death but might still be holding on to a little hope of salvation. It comes from an alleyway that stretches, long and narrow, between two of the taller, rundown, tenement buildings.
Kaida isn't alone in her patrols of Mutant Town tonight. There's another walking the streets, looking for trouble. It's just fate, dumb luck, that brings the two of them to the same area tonight. Nicolai, however, doesn't have the keen ears of a little mouse. So it's unlikely he's heard a thing from his position a block or so behind the little one.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
One of those ears flicks, radar dish swinging in the direction of the sound and then little nose sniffs at the air. The mouse girl standing up straight as she does before she finally races off in the direction of the sound. She moves at incredible speed for an olympic athlete, let alone a mouse. Anyone who has seen a mouse zip across their floor knows how fast they can be. Multiply that by nearly ten and you'd get how fast Kaida can move with ease.

She zips this way and that, stopping only briefly here and there to listen and look until she can find that source of that sound.

Nicolai Codona has posed:
The alleyway is dark, cast in long shadows by the lights on the building that are too high up and two caked in grime to really reach the ground below with too much force. But the darkness might not matter to a mousegirl.
Even with the darkness, it's clear that something nasty lurks in that shadowed alley. It's the sounds just under the moaning, the sounds of insect like legs scraping, the sounds of something lapping... or is that sucking, fluids from something.
Closer inspection would reveal the nature of the horror. A man standing at least seven feet tall, he stands on two legs, but six more extend from various parts of his body, back and sides. Some monstrous hybrid of a spider and a man. He's currently bent, crouching over a form wrapped in what looks like spider's silk. That moan? It comes from that silk wrapped form.
...Nicolai is still a little behind, not yet to the mouth of the alley, will he even notice what's happening inside its depths?

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A slow blink follows that sight only for Kaida to realize that what is happening could be the end of someone. As such, she quickly assesses the spider thing as just that, a bad monster thing and pulls her sword, "Hey, ugly!" She calls out from her spot as she steps into what passes for the clear and aims her blade at it, "This is a no sucking zone. Given that you suck in more ways than one..." She aims for the back of the thing's ankle and suddenly is a blur, moving at such a speed that she nearly causes a tiny pop of sound from the near mach one movement and attempts to slash its ankle in the movement.

"...I'm gonna have to cut you off right there." She smirks and puts a hand on her hip, "Fear not webbed person! I am here!"

Nicolai Codona has posed:
Kaida's mistake was one that often goes hand in hand with youth. She announced her presence in the alley before she attacked. It gave her potential opponent time to react. ...and react he did. He reacted by skittering straight up the side of the building nearest to him and his victim. Not nearly as quick as the little mousegirl, but quick enough to reach the top of the building in barely a few blinks of an eye. Scurrying spiders are fast when need be.
He might have walked right on by the alleyway if Kaida hand't called out the way she did. But her voice draws Nicolai's attention that way. When he steps around the corner, his pale aqua eyes glow faintly in the darkness. He barely catches sight of the fleeing monstrosity and mutters, "Damnit." He's not yet looking at the level of six inches above the ground so he has yet to actually SEE Kaida. "Hello?" he asks as he steps further in. He knows he heard someone! He has yet to spot the victim either.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
"Oh ho! A fast one!" She declares and then spots nicolai, "You there, help the person in the webbing! I have a spider person to stop!" She then shows off something that few realize about mice. They're amazing climbers. Those little claws and paws are just perfect for grasping on to all but the most sheer surfaces. It'd take a rather smooth surface to stop her and she zips up that wall on the trail of the monstrosity with alacrity.

"Halt there, villain!" She declares even as she once more attempts to give the spider thing a little slash on one of its limbs.

Nicolai Codona has posed:
Oh no! Well, this situation is going to hell in a hand basket and quick! "No!" Nicolai calls out even as he's moving toward the victim to at least uncover their face so they can breathe. It takes a little doing, but he manages to rip the silk away from the person's nose and mouth. "Come back!" he's calling back to the... mouse? Girl? Fival? He'll ponder all that part of it later. "You can't, not alone!"
"I'm calling for help," he tells the poor webbed person. "Just hang on."
    "Please come back, little one!?!"
Kaida manages to score a hit, but the spider man... thing, lashes out with one of his own limbs in the girl's direction. That limb ends in a wickedly sharp pointed claw. On an actually spider, those are meant only for clinging to things, too small to cause damage, but this isn't a normal spider.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A quick 'Ack!' comes out of Kaida as she suddenly is under attack by the creature that she thought she had on the run. She whips her blade around in a quick fashion to try to deflect the blade. At her strength and size, deflections aren't meant to knock away her enemy but instead knock herself away. She's not great at this fighting style yet but it is something she is working on that is rather unique to her. The scythe like attack slashes against her blade and catcheds her with just the barest hinnt of a cut across her side before she goes flying backwards and into the ground with a thud.

"Ow!" SHe calls out and stands up, no worse for wear other than the small slash that is leaking a bit of blood down her side, "Rude!"

Nicolai Codona has posed:
Nicolai holds his breath as he watches the girl fall toward the ground. He knows he's too far away to catch her before she hits the ground, but he's springing to his feet to run in the direction she's going to hit anyway. So, he's close when she lands. He lets out that breath in a giant sigh of relief when she stands and seems only a little worse for wear.
Is a little talking mousegirl odd? Maybe a little. It might even rank in Nicolai's top ten list, but he still takes it in stride and treats her just as he would anyone else "Can you help me please?" he asks as he makes his way back to the poor person wrapped in spider's silk. "There's time to go after him later, now this person needs our help." He kneels down and starts working at the silk carefully with a knife pulled from his pocket. "You saved..." He looks down at the face he managed to clear before continuing. "...her life, thank you." The victim is still now, but breathing evenly.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
Looking in the direction of the spider person, Kaida frowns and looks over at the webbed up person and then at Nicolai, "Yes, I can help." She then races over and cuts at the web a little with her sharp little blade, testing its strength before she suddenly enters into a burst of speed and cutting, carefully slashing away at the webbing using her agility and speed to try to make this fast but also not cut up the person inside.

"Just be a minute." She pauses between cuts, "Harder to cut things when you're worried about what is underneath."

Nicolai Codona has posed:
If this wasn't such a dire situation, the little mousegirl would likely earn a bemused little grin from Nicolai, if only due to her spunky nature. He likes that! While she's working, he pulls out his phone and finally calls 911 for assistance. He's not from around here, but he knows this type of place well enough to know that said assistance could be a long time in coming. He reaches out to check the poor woman's pulse.
The woman in the webbing appears to be in her early to mid 20's. She has vibrant red hair, likely dyed. She's attractive, but not stunningly so. She's so incredibly pale that she looks dead. Upon close inspection she might actually be stunningly attractive if her cheeks weren's so sunken in. In fact all of her skin appears sunken a little, as if she's suffering the worse case of dehydration ever.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
Staring at the woman, Kaida slips her little sword away, shaking her head, "She looks rather bad!" She declares and stares at her, "She needs medical attention! I can't help with whatever happened to her but that thing was slurpin' on her!" She points in the direction it went, "Like some really weird spider or mosquito." She then gasps and looks at Nicolai, "You don't think something happened to Spider-Man, do you? Maybe he became a real spider..." She trails off and stares into the distance, "That'd be terrible!"

Nicolai Codona has posed:
"Indeed it would be," Nicolai agrees. "But that isn't what happened here," he assures the little one. He extends... well, finger considering his hand is bigger than her. "My name is Nicolai, but my friends call me Nix," he offers along with the proffered finger to shake. "Tell me, do you know if there's a medical facility close to where we are?" He's purposely avoiding the topic of where that thing might have went for fear this little hero might take off again after it.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
Taking the finger, she gives it a shake and then shakes her head, "I'm from Metrpololis usually. I just came here to check out what was going on!" She nods and points in the direction of the spider, "Apparently I was right to come here." She then considers, "I'd check a phone to see what the options were but I'm not really capable of carrying a phone." She shrugs, "Sorry."

Nicolai Codona has posed:
He's still holding his own phone in his other hand, the one he used to call 911 and Nicolai barks out a short laugh at his own expense. "Well, it seems you've saved the day again!" He presses the 'Google Assistant' button on his phone and asks for 'hospitals near me'. A quick check of the victim reveals she's still unconscious but still breathing with a slightly weakened, but steady pulse. "Huh, there's a medical clinic in the area. I should just take her there myself." But before he stands to try and lift the poor woman he asks of Kaida, "Can you do me a favor?" The fact that she didn't offer her own name in return is noted, but not pressed upon. Perhaps she has a reason to be secretive.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
THe small mouse girl puts her hands on her hips and looks at him with a nod, "Awesome! Glad to hear she'll be ok! Phones are awesome, wish I had a small one." She smirks before shrugging and nodding to him, "ANd of course! I can probably help out. What do you need?" SHe asks and then blinks, "And also I'm Kaida!" She nods again, "I'd offer you a way to contact me but I haven't gone one yet."

Nicolai Codona has posed:
"Kaida, if you see that thing again, I don't want you to try to fight it. I want you to follow it, okay? Sneaky as can be. I want you to follow it and see where runs off to. I'm guessing it has a place, a lair if you will, around here." Nicolai isn't ONLY thinking about her safety with this request. It would be very helpful to know where the man is hiding out. "Then, you come and find me. I'm staying at the Centinel Hotel here in town. Room 108. You come find me and we'll make him pay for what he did here tonight together." He extends his finger again and asks, "Deal?"

Kaida Connolly has posed:
The girl looks skeptical at first, putting a hand on her hip and looking at him, "I suppose but..." SHe points at him, "If someone is getting hurt by that thing, I'm gonna go take it down!" She nods her head and takes his finger and gives it a shake. She's definitely stronger than she looks. Not strong by human standards but definitely more oomph than her size belays. She then takes a step back, "I'm not gonna let it hurt more people."

Nicolai Codona has posed:
Nicolai smiles at the girl. "If it's hurting someone, you do exactly what you did tonight, Kaida. You set it running, but then you make it think it's outsmarted you or bested and then you follow it secretly. It'll go to ground, go into hiding if its feeding is interrupted." He crouches down to lift the poor woman on the ground. She's lighter than she rightly should be by more than a few pounds. "We have to fight this one smart, do you understand? If you want to know what it is, want to know more, meet me at my hotel room later this evening, after I get this poor girl to help."

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A nod is given to Nicolai and she eyes him, "Ok, but you had better be careful yourself." She then turns and looks back at him, "Get her to saftey, I'll go on patrol!" She then scampers off and within moments is gone in a burst of tiny mouse speed.
