Time for another Hot Beverage
Date of Scene: 20 March 2020
Location: The Coffee Bean
Synopsis: Alanna and Mike chat over coffee and tea
Cast of Characters: Michael Hannigan, Alanna Lyons

Michael Hannigan has posed:
It is a peaceful evening in New York City. And by in New York City, we mean the Coffee Bean. And by evening, we mean right this moment. Because, it's still New York.

Currently the coffee bean is experiencing a lull in traffic, which made for an easy time for Mike to acquire a sofa near the window. With it being so soon after a vocal session, he's currently enjoying a nice cup of hot tea while reading through a copy of The Sea Wolf.

Alanna Lyons has posed:
Alanna's been out for a bit. Business has kept her busy and this is mostly a stop for a much needed caffeine break in order to fuel her work. As she steps in the door, she's in the process of neatly sliding a folder into a professional looking messenger bag. After all, who uses briefcases anymore?

Stepping up to the counter to order her drink, she moves aside shortly after to wait for it, scanning the room with a tired sigh.

Michael Hannigan has posed:
Finishing another chapter, Mike slides a finger between the pages, saving his spot as he lifts his head up. His other hand lifts the cup up to his lips for one lengthy sip. Which is sufficient for the currently bearded performer to catch a glimpse of Alanna. He lifts up his book hand in a quasi wave of greeting when her scan of the room reaches his area. He lowers his cup, giving a smile of greeting but doesn't get up.

Alanna Lyons has posed:
Once Alanna's drink is in hand, she returns the half-wave with a half-wave of her own, heading in that general direction. Her free hand adjusts the strap of the bag. "Nice to see you, hope you're getting in some good reading there?" She says, tone polite as she takes a sip of her latte. She stands just far enough away to be non-intrusive, taking care to keep an eye out in case he seems as if he doesn't want to be bothered.

Michael Hannigan has posed:
Mike watches as Alanna comes over, smile still in place as she comes closer. He nods to the innquiry to the reading. "Yes. It's unusually quiet for the coffee bean so I've gotten further than I was expecting."

He shifts his positioning on the sofa, freeing up more space in case she wishes to sit down. "It's a nice spot to rest up after doing something work related."

He glances to the messenger bag, "Just get off work?"

Alanna Lyons has posed:
There's a wry smile. "That's the secret, I never get off work," Alanna says, shifting her bag so she can put it aside and take a seat on the sofa, coffee in hand. "It does seem like a great place to rest for a bit, though. I could use it. Things always seem to be busy."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
Mike smirks, "Oh really? I've been accused of not taking enough breaks myself. Perils of jobs with no set time schedule."

He sets the book down on the arm of the sofa, freeing up one hand to just rest on his lap as he sips his tea with the other.

Cup straightening, "I'm not sure it got brought up at the hospital, but what is it that you do for a living?"

Alanna Lyons has posed:
"What are these break things you speak of?" Alanna laughs, taking another sip of her coffee as he mentions work. "Oh, ah, business consulting. It's a family business thing, which means I just fill in whenever something goes wrong and no one's good enough to fix it. Lots of organizing people and making sure everything stays on schedule." She shrugs a bit. "Just keeps me busy."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
"Ah. That does sound busy." Mike acknowledges, "Um. Most of my stuff is entertainment related. Acting, Playing, Writing... I think the tiring part is the travel though."

The cup lifts once more, considering Alanna as he enjoys the tea.

Alanna Lyons has posed:
"Ooh, yeah, travel does me in. I go somewhere and I feel like I have to sleep a day to recover. Thankfully most of my travels are short distances. No overseas operations yet. /Yet/," Alanna sounds appalled at the idea. "I think I'd have to have a serious conversation if someone decided they wanted business overseas in my family." She nods at him. "Entertainment is good, that's an industry I'm not particularly connected with, myself."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
"It's a reasonably fun field but it's also fickle as heck." Mike admits, "One reason I do so much stuff is to make sure I still have an income should one of the industries have an off year."

He taps the side of his cup, glancing to the lid before looking back to Alanna, "Did you have fun being Miss Galaxy?"

Alanna Lyons has posed:
"That I can at least be assured of. The money's always there. There's always a business venture to be made. It isn't so fickle." Alanna shrugs. "I guess that's the benefit of it, but the curse of always being on-call." Alanna sips from her latte. "The galaxy thing was fun. It's nice to take some breaks and do something a little more relaxing."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
"It's also nice because we're a long ways away from the holiday season so it seems harder to find events like that." Mike adds in. "Seeing most of them smile was pretty rewarding too."

Alanna Lyons has posed:
"Making people smile... it's a nice treat. I wish I could see it more," Alanna admits, clearly finding the memory fond, if nothing else. "I keep my eye out for events like that. Help out when I can."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
"...They might do something for Easter." Mike suggests, "And, it seems I might need to go back there with the guitar soon so, maybe that?"

Alanna Lyons has posed:
"Never hurts for more events. I'm surprised you have so much time for charity work, but I guess you probably make some time for something you care about, hm?" Alanna sips her latte and glances over the top of it at him. "Would like to hear some music sometime. I bet the kids love it."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
It is Mike's turn to give the wry smile now, "Ah. That's the secret. In between gigs, I'm essentially unemployed. Well, that and most concerts aren't in the middle of the day."

Alanna Lyons has posed:
"Seems we're at opposite ends of the spectrum there," Alanna laughs. "People are constantly wanting my attention and it seems that they don't want someone else who is just as capable of doing it. I have to redirect things and redirect the redirects..." She shakes her head. "Guess there's job security. Not that I need it, given it's a family thing."

She takes another sip of her latte. "So moments like this are nice. Actually being able to sit down and relax." She nods at him. "It's good you spend that free time doing charity work, though."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
Mike nods, smile still in place, "What else am I going to do with that time? Sleep?" He shakes his head. "Plenty of time for that later, right?"

Alanna Lyons has posed:
"Ooh, I bet you have a social life. Tell me, what's that like? You meet amazing people, walk in the park, see movies..." Alanna seems more than amused. "Or you could sleep. Sleep works too."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
"Well." Mike muses, "Reading, sketching, songwriting, church, vocal lessons, practice my instruments... Sometimes I'll go to the museum. Have a coffee, Have tea." He pauses, tilting his head, "Wow. When did I get so domestic? Six years ago it was nothing but partying and -"

He pauses, looking to Alanna, not finishing the sentence, "Well, other stuff."

Alanna Lyons has posed:
Alanna gets the picture. "Life throws us into unexpected positions. Couple of years ago, I had an entirely different routine and schedule. Even a bit of a social life. Surprising, I know." She looks at him. "You take what life throws your way, though, and you make the most of it."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
"Yeah." Mike agrees, "I should be used to it, honestly. I get a lot of odd curveballs."

He lifs up his cup, frowning as the lack of sloshiness confirms what he was suspecting. "Annnd- I'm guessing whenever I release my next album and start touring again as Nick Drago I'm going to probably drift back to that other mode."

Alanna Lyons has posed:
"All that touring and travel. You'll be exhausted for sure," Alanna chuckles. "Enjoy your freedom while you can. Honestly, though, I don't think I'd know what to do without having my job. Kind of seems like it's my life, so I just try and fit everything else into it. Tie it all up with a neat little bow."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
"Well, I have time before any touring is involved. I have to finish up a film project first. Assuming there are no more delays, the only trips I should expect out of town would be to Metropolis."

As the familiar, yet muffled sounds of the Nokia rings, Mike sighs, "Well, sounds like the unemployment status is suspended for a little bit. Looks like it is time to go."

He leans forward, the sound of the ringing getting louder as he fishes out the phone. He glances back to the woman, "Hope to see you around, Alanna."

Alanna Lyons has posed:
Alanna shakes her coffee to gauge how much is still left in it before she nods in his direction. "Well, it was good to see you as well," she offers him. "I've got to get back to work myself." She shoulders her bag as she gets to her feet and shoots him a last look. "Don't work too hard."

Michael Hannigan has posed:
Mike smirks, "I make no promises."

Tossing the cup in a nearby trashcan, Mike grabs his book before answering the protesting phone in his depature, "Hey Wade. What do you have?..."
