Date of Scene: 03 June 2021
Location: Avenue of Tomorrow - New Troy
Synopsis: Karen works on getting Atlee to relax.
Cast of Characters: Atlee, Karen Starr

Atlee has posed:
Standing in the entrance of the Avenue of Tomorrow, her arms crossed and looking a little annoyed. Surely, someone somewhere could use their help but she told Power Girl she'd meet her here and then she could help her perhaps adapt a bit more to topside life. Atlee is wearing the outfit that she had gotten for when she wasn't wearing her super outfit and that consists of a pair of shorts and a T-shirt with simple shoes. It's just past the noon rush and people have already mostly filtered out back to their afternoon responsibilities whether that be back to work, get the kids, or whatever.

"I wonder how long this will take?" She asks of no one in particular as she looks both angry pout and impatient.

Karen Starr has posed:
Power Girl learned this lesson a long time ago, and has had to reiterate it to herself every now and then for the better part of two decades. Most recently, she had it lectured to her by none other than Tony Stark on the head of the Statue of Liberty.

She can operate without sleep, without stopping to eat or drink, without even taking a moment to worry about anything other than lifting heavy things and punching dangerous people- but doing so is.. Dangerous. It risks detaching her from humanity, and risks sacrificing her own mental wellbeing. With her powers, that's more dangerous to the world than taking some time off.

Much the same, Karen feels the same way about Atlee's efforts. It's time to take a break. It took a bit of convincing, but how can you /really/ argue with an implacable blonde who can move continents?

Power Girl strides up to Atlee, coming from a cafe just off to the side of where the woman said she'd be. Carrying a pair of cups with her, she offers one to the other woman- dressed somewhat conservatively herself, long jeans hiding the legs of her suit, her boots inconspicuous enough to remain worn, but a thick sweater does its best to hide her most identifying assets. After all, the suit has a collar to it.

"Here, have a latte. It'll take as long as it takes."

Atlee has posed:
Taking the latte, Atlee eyes it and then Karen before looking back to the latte. She gives it the barest of shakes, feeling the heat coming off of it and then sniffing it. She stares into it then for a moment before looking to Karen.

"As long as what takes?" Atlee then sips the latte and blinks, eyes going wide a moment and then she pulls back from it a little, staring it. She sips it again and then licks her lips before saying, "How is this both so sweet and so bitter at the same time?" She asks of it and Karen.

Karen Starr has posed:
Power Girl takes a few small gulps of her own latte in the time that it takes Atlee to properly inspect the drink. "It isn't poison. It's a kind of coffee. I tried to keep the sugar down." Admittedly, that just means there's only a little too much sugar in the drink. Kryptonians aren't fair.

Offering a shrug, Karen continues while Atlee drinks. "As long as it takes for you to acclimate a bit and relax." Another, longer sip from her latte. "You've got to slow down. On the heroing, not the latte. You can drink that as fast as you like, just don't burn yourself." she notes, offering a quick point with her free hand.

"It's complicated. Coffee is an art form unto itself, and a lot of work goes into it."

Atlee has posed:
"It isn't that hot." She replies and shakes her head, "I doubt it can burn me." She sips it again before looking over at Karen and then shaking her head as she looks forward and starts walking, looking at the various shops, "Art?" She looks at Karen and then back at the cup, "How much work went into it? You weren't gone that long. Do they keep these pre-made sitting around or something?" She then looks to a shop and blinks as they are passing.

"What's that?" She gets distracted by one of the world of tomorrow shops and just inside the door is what appears to be some appliances. The one that has Atlee's attention appears to be a clothes washer that washes, dries and then folds clothing all in one large machine.

Karen Starr has posed:
"Famous last words." Karen replies, before pausing a moment, "That's a saying- the amount of fame attested to someone's last quote tends to relate to a few things, but the most common is a level of poetic justice. So, if you say something's not going to happen, it's probably going to." she notes, before pausing in her tracks.

"Oh, those are washing machines. They wash clothes, dry them, and fold them. Really, really advanced, but if you wear a certain size of bra it doesn't really deal with the straps really well and- Eh." Karen shrugs. "It's just convenient, when you're not untangling it."

Atlee has posed:
A nod and Atlee considers that, "Very wise then." She states and nods to Karen, "Who said it originally?" She asks of Karen before she goes back to watching the demo clothing swirling around inside the machine. She pokes the glass front a little before she stops and looks back at Karen with a bit of confusion, "Bra?" She asks and tilts her head a little and then looks back at the machine, "What is that and what kind of straps would it have that would get tangled up in such a machine?" She looks carefully at it and then back to Karen.

"That is something I have noticed a lot." She points at Karen, "The amount of inconvenient conveniences that surface dwellers seem to take part in."

Karen Starr has posed:
Karen seems to struggle with that for a moment. "Well, nobody that we know of said it first." Cocking her hips to the side, she rolls her shoulders again, "It's more referring to, you know, when you say something and then it happens anyways. Just a funny concept. No deeper meaning than that."

Striding forward to stand alongside Atlee as she other woman pokes at the machine, Karen smiles a bit, placing her free hand on her hip. "That's got a complex answer that I'm not going to go through right now." she says, referencing Bras. "But about inconvenient conveniences... It's not a surface world thing. It's a people thing. The idea is that you're overall less inconvenienced than before, but everything has a bit of inconvenience to it. For example, I could make these lattes at home, /but/, I'd have to buy the stuff. It's cheaper, and requires more work, but I could do it. Or I could just buy them from the cafe. It's more expensive, but it's /easier./ Understand?"

Atlee has posed:
"I guess." Atlee states and then looks at Karen carefully before shaking her head, "I just don't know why they are necessary I guess. It seems that people up here go through a lot of trouble for things that don't seem all that important." She shrugs and then nods her head, "Still, hopefully I can better understand this so I can better help them not destroy their own world." Atlee nods and then looks back to the machine. SHe puts her hands on her hips before nodding to Karenn.

"Ok, I am clearly more relaxed so now we can get back to the work I was sent here for." She nods and sips more of her latte, "I have been energized by this great talk of washing machines and latte."

Karen Starr has posed:
Karen scrunches her face a moment in thought, working on the right words to give Atlee, that'll create understanding. "I'm not sure I'd use the word necessary. I mean, they don't need them to live- if they didn't have a washing machine, they wouldn't /die/ or anything... But the whole idea is to make things better for the people that come after you, and hopefully yourself too. So, we make this stuff so that we don't have to do things the hard way anymore, and so future generations don't either. It's all part of that, though this is the least glamorous part, I'll give it that."

There's a roll of her eyes at that, and Karen shakes her head. "Nope, sorry, I'm not getting 'energized' yet, I'm getting 'impatient.' Take a moment, let's keep walking. You're going to have more questions. When's the last time you even slept?"

Atlee has posed:
A blink at Karen and then she shifts on one foot and then the other, "I slept for a few hours yesterday." She nods her head and then shrugs, "WHy? I am not like the rest of the people on the surface. I do not require as much sleep." She nods and smiles at Karen, "I am sure I'll have more questions, though. You are right about that. I understand about making things easier for those who come after me, but, I just don't fully grasp the importance of focusing on a box with moving pictures on it when one could be improving.

"My father taught me that improving myself is very important as that is what helps the next generation thrive." SHe nods her head, "How, though, does walking around this area help me with sleep?"

Karen Starr has posed:
Finished with her Latte, Karen drops the cup into a trashcan and sets her hands on her hips. There's an expression of nigh-parental disapproval on her features, but she doesn't let Atlee languish in assumption over what it means for long.

"I imagine you don't, but you've got to be vigilant about getting proper rest. It's dangerous not to, for yourself and the people you're trying to help." Taking a moment there to ensure that they're not really being overheard, Power Girl softens.

"You haven't seen the right moving pictures." she notes, turning to start walking down the avenue, expecting Atlee to follow. "He isn't wrong, but this is one of the ways to improve yourself. As for how walking will help, maybe it'll tire you out?"

Atlee has posed:
A look over at Karen and then back to the washing machine and Atlee shakes her head, "If you say so." She then blinks as she notes Karen is taking off and she follows after her, moving to walk beside her, finishing up her own latte as they go, "Well, what are the right moving picture then? Will you take me to see one?"
