Late Night Lab Visit
Date of Scene: 17 June 2021
Location: The Playground: Tech Lab
Synopsis: No description
Cast of Characters: Grant Ward, Finley Ellison

Grant Ward has posed:
He had been on assignment in Eastern Eurpoe for months. An undercover mission in which he had only recenlt returned from to find SHIELD scattered and in hiding. He probably would have been better of staying where he was. He had places to "hideout" as it were, but for Ward being where a Headquarters was ocnsidered to be was more to his liking. The Playground he was finding had everything he needed, a place to live, labs, food and training areas. It was a home away from home, and he was willing ot make it work.

Eventthough he had only been back for a few days, there were a few things he neded to deal with; most importantly some of his weaponry and equipment. Thus, Agent Grant Ward found himself making his way to the new tech lab dressed in a pair of jeans, a white t-shurt that perhaps seems a size too small and a black duffle bag. "Fitz!. Fitz!" The name is being called before he even enters the doorway of the lab. Yet when he steps in the doorway, he does not see Fitz, but another lab tech whose face seems a bit familiar, but to him she is nameless. "Where's Fitz?" He steps in ans sets the dufflebag down on one of the lab tables.

"I need my weapons and tech post-misson assessed. The gun on top has something wrong with the auto-sight. I missed a shot. I think it might be off by a millimeter or so." He turns to look at her and then simply adds. "Can you let him know when he comes back? It clearly has an issue."

Finley Ellison has posed:
"Um," Finley Ellison, the lab tech who was very definitely not Fitz, said. "He, uh. Um, well...You've been gone a while, haven't you, sir? I mean, um, I mean, I can take a look at it for you."

She barely recognizes the man. He was a field agent and a solo operative she knew. He liked to come in to the lab to yell about his weapons. But he didn't seem to know about the Framework. Or that most of the high ranking SHIELD Officers were stuck in it -- Fitz included.

And she definitely wasn't the person to debrief him on that score. So maybe she could just fix his weapons and let someone else break the news. She picks up the gun and begins to examine it.

"Do you mind if I run a few tests?" she asks. There doesn't *seem* to be anything wrong with it. But maybe there is. And if there isn't, maybe the test will appease him.

Grant Ward has posed:
Grant's eyes fell to the young woman, not an intimidating glance, but a glance nevertheless. His had raised to wave in a dismissive gesture, not a condescending one, but one that seemd to say: By all means take a look. "By all means. Run whatever tests you need to run. The only logical explanation is that the site is off."

He moves to lean against the lab table, crossing his arms before him. "Wait a minute. I have seen you around before." He turns his glance to look at her more closely. "Yeah. Not sure we ever spoke. You were always in the background of the lab working on something." He puses himself away from the tavle edge and moves to stand beside the lab tech, looking down at what she is examining. "So you think you can fix it?" Grant is already assuming there is certainly something wrong with it. Grant Ward does not miss a shot and if he does it has to be a mechanical error. "You /have/ seen that model before right?"

Finley Ellison has posed:
"I've been here for two years, sir. And um, I'm not sure there's anything *wrong* with it -- except that it's out of date." Finley, who has been examining the weapon with an obvious familiarity, looks up at him to deliver the last statement. "I mean, um, we've updated the trigger mechanism -- must have been while you were away. And um also the changed the materials of some of the internal components. There are a few of the newer guns down in the range, if you'd care to test them out. I can have the modifications to yours done in a day or so."

Grant Ward has posed:
He seems quite impressed with her response. Not questioning her at all and seemingly accepting everything she has said as legitimate. "That would be um...great. Always want to be on the edge of the latest tech. I can leave them with you then? Come back in a few days. I don't have anything going on for a bit."

He can sense her nervousness and as much of a uptight hard-ass as Grant can be, he has been shown to show some compassion and care for others. He just has a funny way of showing it. He decides to try and put her at ease a bit, realizing her level of discomfort." The agent turns to her and with a genuine smile extends his hand. "I think we skipped introductions and that was completely my fault. Agent Grant Ward. BUt you..." He raises his other hand and points a finger. "You can call me Grant or Ward." The smile still remains on his face as he continues. "I did not mean to make you nervous. There must be a smile somewhere right?" He looks to her and raises a brow.

Finley Ellison has posed:
She takes his hand. "Oh, uh Agent Finley Ellison. Nice to meet you Agent Ward." There is a small smile at the introduction, and a bit of a self deprecating laugh breathed through it. "And, oh, don't worry about it. I'm always nervous. I mean. Um. Around people. Agents. And uh, field work."

Grant Ward has posed:
The handshake is released and he remains before her, trying his best to relieve some of her nervousness some more. "A pleasure to meet you Finley Ellison. And what are you nervous about? You do not have to answer. I was just curious is all. You seem like you know what you are doing." He watches her, trying to read her body language. "Are you afraid someone may question you?" He is careful to not press to hard, already sensing fully her level of comfort, which he has found to be general with anyone. "Tell me Ms. Ellison. What do you love about science?" He asks her a question he can tell she has a passion for. "And after that...your favorite food."

Finley Ellison has posed:
"Oh, um. I just don't always get people right, you know? I don't suppose you do, though - you're probably very good at people." She takes a steadying breath. "I am good at science though, you're right. How it is ever evolving, ever improving. Science is the embodiment of hope, if you really think about it. That we strive to understand the unknowable, to keep learning, keep discovering. There is alway more wonder in the universe. The evolution of quantum mechanics and the work to harness the control of quantum flux, we are so close to uncovering the answer to some of our greatest mysteries."

Her face is alight with passion and dedication and joy. She has the purity of an acolyte. "Oh and um the food, right. Do chocolate covered espresso beans count?"

Grant Ward has posed:
He knew that would work and her joy is contagious, the Agent smiling as well.. Nothing works better to break the ice or calm a nervous person by letting them talk about something they have a passion for or know a lot about. There is a noticeable change in her demanor and confidence. "I could not have said that better myself. No seriously. What you said I will not even pretend to say I understand all of it. You are very well-versed in science Ms. Ellison. See, all you needed to cure your shyness is some confidence. In talking about science you have that confidence."

His smile remains as he hears her favorite food. "Do chocolate covered expresso beans count? That's a good question. I am going to say yes. Based on a scientific approach, they are a food if consumed. And you enjoy them more than anything else. So therefore they are a favorite food. Noted. Now I know how get the best technical support."
