Crashing at (near) Parker's Place
Date of Scene: 21 March 2020
Location: Forest Hills -- Queens
Synopsis: Naomi crashes in a Spider's Backyard. Power Girl and Spider-Man talk to the projectile. That projectile is taken away.
Cast of Characters: Peter Parker, Naomi McDuffie, Karen Starr

Peter Parker has posed:
Early evening in Forest Hills. Ingram Street, a neighborhood that has houses built back in the 1930's. Old, but well-kept.

The Parker house at 20 Ingram Street is like that. Back in the 1930's, a mobster lived there, buried a fortune there. The man who had come looking for it over two years ago found out the silverfish got to it first.

The backyard of this house is expansive, but the trees in the rear (that provide EXCELLENT cover for a certain Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man) are actually part of a larger wooded area that extended into the small creek running behind the houses. It is quiet, idyllic...

...you know, much like the Yucatan Peninsula before a meteorite the size of Queens ruined a planet's day.

And wouldn't you know, something is coming, and it is neither a bird nor a plane...

Naomi McDuffie has posed:
Frankly, she'd never done this before. She wasn't even completely sure how she was doing it. Naomi wanted to go where there were more heroes. Somewhere where she could potentially get help, training, and maybe meet more people like her. Some small town in Oregon wasn't gonna really help with that. So, she flew east. Of course, that was barely over an hour ago. Now she's nearing NYC and leaving a golden trail behind her as she flies. Well, if one can call that zig zagging motion flying.

The real problem was coming now. She was...not really prepared for landing. She wasn't really prepared for flying at roughly Mach 4. So, when that friendly little neighborhood hears what sounds like a sonic boom, it is quickly followed by a second boom as Naomi tries to choose a place that looks...uh, safe to crash? She already knew from expierence she could take the hit. It was everything else she was worried about.

She slammed into the ground in the woods, causing trees to snap, woodland creatures to run, and the ground to crack as she smashes into the ground. A cloud of debris, dust and dirt billows up into the sky and someone right in the center of the crash groans out an, "Ow..."

Peter Parker has posed:
For a moment, it was the year 2012 and he had blown up the basement again.

Peter Parker JUMPED as something hit the ground close by, something guaranteed to change property values in Forest Hills for the next year.
He eyed the experiment. The curve was coming through clean, and he had to monitor it, but...
He sighed.

Thirty seconds later, the experiment was a total washout and Spider-Man was leaping over the fence and heading straight for the point of impact.

Naomi McDuffie has posed:
Already the dust and debris was starting to settle. Squirrels and the like were already trying to figure out what just hapopened and many people were stepping toward their back porch to figure out just what the heck happened. What happened though, was further out in the woods, someone or something just made the woods far more, cratery.

In the center of said crater, Naomi was ever so slowly pushing up from the ground and shaking her head, "Well." She states to no one in particular as she stands up and looks herself over, "Seems...I've not broken anything." She looks around, "Of mine..." She lets out a long sigh and then shakes her head even as a tree slowly creaks and falls over.

Karen Starr has posed:
Across the country, in California, the San Andreas fault has been acting up. Just a few minutes ago, there was an 8.0 that, mysteriously, finished as soon as it began. It's difficult to explain, and there are plenty of people who theorize correctly- that one of the Metropolis heroes, specifically Power Girl, had taken over for Superman in halting the fault's occasional bouts of misbehavior.

As a result, Peter arrives first, but Karen isn't too far behind.

When she arrives- having hit some two-hundred times the speed of sound to blitz her way across the skies and get to the meeting in the woods- She comes to a sudden halt and floats there above the pair.

"How about we start by telling me what's going on?"

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man hops onto the trunk of a tree that is now canted at a 60-degree angle. No particulat feelings about this tree, unlike the ones in the backyard.

He looks around and sees the girl for the first time. Okay. Top five answers on the board. Superhero? Supervillain? Future Girl? Alternate-Universe Girl? All-Powerful Imp from the Fifth Dimension? (Don't laugh, there is a precedent.)

"Uhm, hey there..." Spidey says, holding up one hand to wave to the girl. "Welcome to Earth. I sure hope you come in..."

And then there is a sudden WHOOSH of wind and Power Girl is hovering majestically over the scene.

When Power Girl queries them, Spidey quips, "I dunno, we just got here ourselves."

Naomi McDuffie has posed:
Coughing a little and whisping away a bit of remainig dust, Naomi looks up to see Spider-Man and then blinks before turning around to see Power Girl and another blink, "Well." She states and then sucks in a breath before letting it out slowly, "Hello, Spider-Man and Power Girl." She gives a wave to each and then she looks around before idly putting her hands together, "I am Naomi and I just learned to fly like an hour ago..." She states, "Hour and a half really." She nods again before she looks down at the ground, "Landing is hard." She states.

She then looks to Spider-Man again and then back up at Power Girl, "I guess I have arrived on the other side of the country then." She laughs a little, "Somewhat successfully."

Karen Starr has posed:
Karen floats quietly down to the ground, and approaches this new person without a whole lot of caution. Arms at her side, her brow raises all the while, and for a moment her attention is on Spider-man.

"Didn't expect you to know a whole lot, but thanks for opening your mouth and proving it." A reverse quip, in that sense. It's maybe a little meaner than Spidey deserves, but there's something about his voice and attitude that has Karen a little bit more on edge than she would be on the tolerance scale.

"Hello, whoever you are. If you weren't capable of stopping yourself, maybe you shouldn't have tried to -fly- cross country. You could have hurt someone. Or something. We're lucky there are only trees here, because I doubt you wanted to step out of your nifty crater and find out that you reduced Bambi's mother to a fine crimson mist."

Peter Parker has posed:
Naomi? Well, if you can fly across the country in an hour and land like a meteorite in a disaster flick, then you do you, Naomi.

"Well, Naomi...so less Welcome to Earth and more Welcome to New York City."
Having powers for 90 minutes and boom New York City. Maybe this place is some sort of crosstime nexus.

"You're currently in the Forest Hills district of Queens. Want to see the sights, grab some sliders at White Castle, or are you looking for something...or someone...in particular?"

He doesn't seem to mind Power Girl dissing him. He's been dissed so often. She's...maybe .35 of a JJJ. He IS the benchmark of disrespect, after all.

Naomi McDuffie has posed:
A slow blink as she looks at Power Girl and then she just nods, "Well, next time I learn how to fly I'll do my best to understand just how to do it the moment I get it." She nods her head a bit before looking to Spider-Man and smiling, "Sure, thanks for the welcome. Food sounds great but I have a feeling it'll have to wait." She then walks up out of the crater and heads to the edge.

"Look, Power Girl, I was coming here to try to find some help with this. I just found out a lot about my past, it involves a psychopath murdering my parents and killing my world and then trying to kill me and then me punching him back into that dying world and then me finding out I can't go back and then, oh yeah, my adoptive parents aren't who they say they are and..." She takes a breath and then points at Power Girl, "And then I find out I'm like the last of my planet in a way and I'm powerful and I just thought I might come to where all the superheroes are for help so thanks for the greeting." She nods her head.

"As for the flight, I kinda went out, wanted to go this way and then boom...I started going this way and it was fast. Real fast." She nods, "So, you'll have to forgive me for doing my best to land in what looked like the woods."

Karen Starr has posed:
There's a moment where she reaches up, pinching idly at the bridge of her nose. "Listen. The snark is cute. Really. It's adorable. The issue I have here is, despite that you showed -good- judgment in landing at least where you hoped there wouldn't be -people-, if you had the time and ability to try and find others with powers so that you could learn, then you had the time and ability to reach out."

There's a pause there. It's boring, but the lecture isn't quite over. "You're in a world now, a weight class, where you have to think about everything. It's not going to wait for you. But." She holds out her hands, "IF you're looking for help, you've come to the right place. Metropolis isn't far. The Avengers are here. I... Can see if there's enough left of the Titans to maybe help you figure things out. At the very least, -somebody- has a tough enough room that even if we can't teach you, we can give you a place to teach yourself where nobody gets hurt."

Peter Parker has posed:
Wow. As Marty McFly has said multiple times, that's heavy. He has lost people himself, but he only lost his world in the psychological sense.

And if Naomi is as powerful as this sudden bout of urban renewal shows, then yeah, She is far above his weight class.

Still...

"She makes a very good case, Naomi. You should seek out people of comparable power, people who can help you handle this stuff."
Spidey reaches into the back pocket of his red-and-blue Spidey Backpack and takes out a card. He hops over to where Naomi is, holding out the card for her to take. It has a Gmail address and a phone number.

"...If you feel like chatting with a working-class hero, though, or just need someone to vent to, reach out to me. I may not know how to push buildings around...but I do understand a few things."

Naomi McDuffie has posed:
A blink at Power Girl and she sighs again before she shrugs, "And that's why I came here." She states, "I just...didn't think I'd be this fast or it'd be this hard to stop." She nods her head as she looks over at Spider-Man and smiles, "Hey, thanks." She takes the card and then shrugs, "Thought it'd be more exciting meeting Power Girl and less..." She shrugs and then just nods, "I guess the Titans sounds great. Avengers sounds awesome. I just don't know anyone or anything. Just that..." She winces and lets out a groan before stumbling forward and wincing as she glows rather brightly for a moment, her mouth spilling with what appears to be pure energy and her eyes glowing before it passes.

"Yeah...that has happened at least once." She winces and closes her eyes, "I just...look I need help." She nods her head and looks to Power Girl, "Sorry if I ccame here too hard or something but I really didn't know."

Karen Starr has posed:
"I know that's why you came here." she states, bring her arms up and folding them silently. It's a judgmental gesture, or rather, it's an imposing one if nothing else, though there are... Extenuating factors that, frankly, ought to make it illegal. At least when she does it.

"I understand that you didn't know. You needed to slow down. Think about how you could have reached out to us without using your powers. Someone would have listened." Then, the other woman's face explodes with light for a moment, and Karen frowns, deeply. "Yeah, you need help. Nothing you've done today is... That bad of a crime, but especially if -that's- happening, we have no way to know you're not a bomb. Let's get you... Anywhere, just somewhere that's not here. Maybe the Baxter Building, or Avengers tower..." She seems to devolve into pondering, for a moment. Who would be best to help?

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man nodded, then looked over his shoulder. "Flashing lights. Most likely police, firefighters. I'll go over, keep them away from the area if you think their involvement is going to slow down what needs to be done. On the other hand, if they know a super's involved, maybe they'll reach out to the right people. I'll go with whatever you rule on this one. I happen to know a few people in this neck of the woods."

Naomi McDuffie has posed:
A frown as she looks over at Karen and she nods, "You're the expert." She nods her head and then she blinks, "And I'm sorry that crashing is a crime..." She states and then looks over at Peter and then past where he is talking about before nodding her head, "Thanks Spider-Man but I really don't know what is best. I've fought a supervillain who killed a lot of people today and then flew across the nation after I found out a lot of heavy stuff so, I don't really know where to go from here."

Karen Starr has posed:
Parker has his hands up, and so does Naomi- figuratively, at least- for a moment, Karen had forgotten that she's the adult here. Hell, she's the only one over thirty, despite that she doesn't look it.

"Right. Right. Listen, don't bother with the police. They'll just blame you for this. Instead, get out of here without being seen." Was that... Actual concern for Spidey's reputation? From anyone? What a miracle.

"As far as you go, I can take you to the old tower. It's been abandoned for a couple of years, but it's safe. Might even have facilities you can use. I'll have to see if any of the ex-Titans are willing to even go back there. Shouldn't take long."

With that, she holds out her hand, for the younger woman to take.

Peter Parker has posed:
Right. Time to disappear. Fortunately, he has a way to do just that.

"All right. I'll make myself scarce." He salutes Power Girl, then looks to Naomi. "Listen...I think you'll be okay. She's one of the A-listers, after all."

He waves to Naomi, then fires a webline into the treeline. "Take care, Naomi."
A few seconds later, he is gone like a cool breeze.

Naomi McDuffie has posed:
A look over to Peter as he flees away, she nods her head before she looks over toward Karen again. She nods her had, "Well, anywhere sounds better than here right now." She reaches out take the woman's hand and then smiles at her, "It really is cool to meet Power Girl, ya know." She nods her head.

Karen Starr has posed:
Power Girl's grip is as strong as it is dirty. Her arms are covered in it, in fact, as she had just been holding two tectonic plates together with them. Offering a small sigh, she looks up at the clouds for a moment. "We'll see if you keep that opinion."

The ascent isn't so bad- but the Tower isn't very close. The sudden acceleration to Mach Yes isn't going to be pleasant, but luckily, it probably isn't enough to be anything more than some combination of spooky or exciting.
