Scientific Endeavors
Date of Scene: 21 July 2021
Location: Medical Lab
Synopsis: Clarice delivers information on a drug to Beast, while Kitty helps him with goggles for Dyani.
Cast of Characters: Henry McCoy, Kitty Pryde, Clarice Ferguson

Henry McCoy has posed:
It was another day of working on the goggles - he felt he was near a finished product. The science was sound, and the prototype worked well. A bit of vertigo, but still. The design was sleek, not unlike Scott's glasses. Henry was at his personal workbench, looking over the near finished product. Just needed the software updates from Kitty!

In theory, the focus would make Dyani see in binocular with the apparatus on - and give her better depth perception. The software would help with her equilibrium and learn from her biometrics. An elegant loop of software that learned from its wearer.

Kitty Pryde has posed:
There's a tapping on the doorjamb of the open doorway before Kitty steps into the lab. She knows he probably heard her approach anyway unless Hank was too engrossed in something to be paying attention. But good to be polite.

In one arm she has her laptop, in the other a box. On her shoulder is a small purple extraterrestrial dragon. Kitty and Lockheed come into the room and Kitty says, "Hey Hank. Got a few minutes to go over some of the stuff for Dyani?" she asks.

Henry McCoy has posed:
Looking over his shoulder, Henry grins. "Hey Kitty - how are you?" A nod to the young woman. "And Lockheed, always a pleasure." The man winks. "I am just finishing up the housing and mechanics here - I was hoping to find you later for the software. But as fortune favored me, yes - I'd love to work on the software." He clears a space for her laptop.

He then uses a microtool to pop open a side panel on the goggles - exposing connection pins for Kitty's cabling. "Feel free to link in."

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty Pryde walks over to the counter, setting down the laptop and the box. Lockheed hops off of her shoulder to take a seat on the table as well. "I've been working up some underlying APIs for it already," she tells him as she gets her laptop unlocked and opens up a few things. Wireless connections are made to the monitors, different displays showing code, diagrams of codes and documentation on the code.

"Good of you to help her with this," Kitty says while she's focused on her screen. "So I've been doing a mockup with another person with non-human eyes," she says, at which Lockheed lifts his head. Kitty reaches in the box and pulls out a little headset which she fastens over the dragon's head. It has a cable coming out of it and she plugs it into her laptop and then launches a program. The view that Lockheed has comes up in one window, with various telemetry outputs in another. "I have it interpreting both the visual muscle movements and also toyed with some sensors to actually sense the nerves. Though, I had actual pads on his face for that, would have to come up with something less overt," she says as she lets Hank take a look. "Of course it'll have to have a few changes for her specifically, but the underlying code interpreting the data should work the same."

Henry McCoy has posed:
A wry grin as everything is setup. "It's what we do for our friends and students, right?" Henry grins to Kitty. There's a bit of a chuckle at the tiny goggles for Lockheed. "That should help - the lenses I've made help to focus her sight forward. Compound eyes are fascinating - but they don't make for good focus work. Reading, some depth perceptions..." He ticks off. "It's a good baseline, and thank you Lockheed for helping Kitty and I."

"It goes without saying, your help is invaluable Kitty. I don't know too many who work software like you do, without going for outside help." A smile. "With all this setup, I am hoping Dyani can have a proper time at school and not have any challenges from her visual differences."

Kitty Pryde has posed:
"It's interesting," Kitty says as she works the keyboard, making a few adjustments as Lockheed looks around the lab. Each blink, even the focusing of his eyes, generating data that Kitty's subroutines use to adjust the goggles. "How people's senses are affected. I mean, you and Logan with your hearing and sense of smell, while Dyani's vision is affected. I'm surprised more mutations don't impact our senses in some fashion. I suppose one could say Jean and the Professor's does, if not a sense most of us have," she says idly as she works.

Kitty reaches over to pat Lockheed's back. "Ok, shall we hook it up to your goggles then and see how it goes?" she asks Henry McCoy.

Clarice Ferguson has posed:
It was hardly Clarice's first time in the X-Men's underground base - it would hardly be her last - and she always finds something amusing in the gleaming metal halls. Her expression is more grim and focused today, however, as she strides towards the medical lab, accompanied by another member of the covert team. Clarice pauses in the open door, taking in Kitty, Hank, and the be-goggled Lockheed at a glance, while her escort offers a simple nod to the others before retreating - mission accomplished. Clarice is their problem now.
"Hey," the magenta-skinned mutant greets the pair, followed by an amused, "Nice look, Lockheed. Working on Dyani's goggles more?" There's a brief flash of a grateful smile at that.

Henry McCoy has posed:
Henry gives a grin. "Some don't require assistance with the new perceptions they get. I know it took me a while to sort out the overwhelmingly broad spectrum I can perceive. Ororo sees the Earth energy in flora and fauna." The blue man shrugs. "Unfortunately, it is never something we can predict - when a person's gifts will change their needs." A smile to Kitty. "Yes, please. Hook up the laptop, and let's see what the optics show on your software."

At the arrival of Clarice, Henry turns and offers a wave. "Yes, I think we're narrowing it down in record time." He motions to the goggles - now in a sleeker, more fashionable design. Very similar to Scott's visor. "Kitty here was just about to connect in and fiddle with the software on the goggles. Come take a look?"

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty Pryde turns as the pair arrive at the doorway and Clarice comes in. Kitty raises a hand to wave goodbye to her escort, then tells Clarice, "Hey Blink. I know, Lockheed can make anything look good. Can't ya boy?" The little dragon might be said to preen slightly under the comment, drawing a grin from Kitty as she finishes freeing him of the visor she had on him.

She unplugs the cable from her laptop and inserts the one from Hank's goggles instead. "And calibrating," she says after moving the mouse over to tap a button. "Should just take a few moments," she says. "Anything else exciting been going on?"

Clarice Ferguson has posed:
"Plenty of excitement, unfortunately," Clarice remarks in a serious tone, not allowing herself to be distracted by Lockheed's antics for once - even if she is normally quite enamored by the purple dragon. She reaches into her pocket to pull out a thumb drive - the //second// one she's delivered to Hank this week alone - strange, that. She offers it over to blue-furred man while asking simply, "Scott gave you that drug sample to analyze, I hope? Did you learn anything about it yet?" she asks.

Henry McCoy has posed:
A slight frown, the man taking the thumb drive in hand. "What's on this one?" Henry wonders of Clarice. "Yes, Scott gave me the sample. Tests are being run." A slight smile. "Hopefully we'll have some leads shortly. Then we can track down the chemical markers in the drug, and see where it's formulated. I have suspicions, but I want to be certain."

Looking to Kitty, he nods. "A bit of a problem with people using a drug to pacify others." A slight frown. "I'm trying to suss out the composition and the source, if possible."

Kitty Pryde has posed:
At hearing about the drug, Kitty's lips press into a tight line, though she doesn't comment verbally as she keeps her focus on the laptop. It's sending out images wirelessly to some of Hank's monitors, Kitty glancing back and forth between them from time to time.

"One inconsistency in the REST call," she mumbles, more to herself than anything. "Let me change my input arguments to match your structure," she says, tapping away on the keyboard.

Lockheed gives a few little flaps of his wings and flies over to Hank's refrigerator. He grabs the handle and flaps again, pulling the door open. A can of soda is retrieved and he flies the door closed, then flaps over and deposits the can beside Kitty's laptop. She reaches for it, opening it and taking a sip without looking away from the screen. "Thanks boy," she says.

Clarice Ferguson has posed:
"Everything the Brotherhood got on the Mutate program when they took Genosha," Clarice explains simply. Which means that the drive also includes her own files - innocuously labeled as 'Subject #083.' "What they're doing - it sounds too similar to be a coincidence. I think there's a Magistrate involved, running this thing. And if you can prove that - then I want to know," she says simply - her grim expression only showing a flicker of amusement as Lockheed fetches a soda for his favorite person.

Henry McCoy has posed:
"I am fairly certain we all want to know, Clarice. None of us tolerate that sort of behavior." Henry assures. Lockheed's antics are not missed, they are admired in his dilligence to take care of his person. "Once everything is found out, I am sure there will be multiple people looking to take action. A concerted effort would benefit us all." He smiles to Clarice.

A glance to Kitty as she digs into the software and coding. "Try as I might, software always seems to be a rough spot for me." A chuckle. "Is it something you can easily wrangle, Kitty?"

Kitty Pryde has posed:
The comment about the memory stick's contents is enough to pull Kitty's eyes away from her screen to look over at it. Woah. After a brief look though she returns to her task, making the adjustment and deploying the changed code.

"Yes, that would definitely be worth knowing," Kitty agrees with Clarice about the possibility of who could be behind it. Her expression makes evident enough her feelings about what the Magistrates did on Genosha.

"Ok," Kitty says. "Yes Hank, all hooked up." She hits return and the windows on the one screen show a view of what the goggles are seeing. "Want to put them on and see if it's reading your eye movements properly?" she asks.

Clarice Ferguson has posed:
"I know you guys are concerned too - that's why we're working together on this one," Clarice confirms simply. "I feel certain there's a Magistrate involved. Mystique insists there isn't any proof yet, but-" She doesn't need the proof. She can //feel// it - the similarties between what is going on, and what happened before.
"I think it goes without saying that everything on that drive's confidential," she adds - not seeming to see any irony in unnecessarily stating the obvious.

Henry McCoy has posed:
The goggles are lifted up and put in place on Hank. "All right. Let me know when you're ready." He comments to Kitty. Looking slick, Henry! "A specific Magistrate - that can be problematic. Nothing we can't solve, though." A smile as he glances over to Clarice. "Yes, confidential. No concern there." He assures.

A look back to Kitty. "Ready when you are."

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty Pryde's nod will inform Clarice she understands about the confidentiality as she boots up the programs. "Ok, readings coming in," she tells Hank. Kitty flips about between a couple of different tabs in the window, checking different readings. "Detecting your eyes focusing. Look around. Left. Right. Up. Down. Heh, feels like the beginning of Halo. Step over here to the Shield Regeneration Station, Master Chief," Kitty tells him with a chuckle.

She looks back to Clarice while picking up her soda for another sip. "Where's the drug being used? Bushwick?" she asks.

Clarice Ferguson has posed:
Clarice's attention shifts towards the goggles as Henry tries them on, a faint smile appearing on her features again. As anxious as she was to get more information about the drug - she was glad to see that Dyani's goggles would be ready soon. Certainly before school started up again for the Xavier's kids.
She looks towards Kitty at her question, though, shaking her head in response. "No - no one from Bushwick. There's someone claiming to be a Revrend - saying they can pray the X-Gene away, and encouraging parents to //give// him their kids. They're the ones being drugged."

Henry McCoy has posed:
There's a low growl from Henry as the situation is explained - clearly it's not something he is fond of. His eyes track as Kitty advises, smirking a bit at her comment. "I think I would have made an excellent soldier." A grin from The Beast. "I did learn to fight from Cap, after all."

"Clarice, have you had any discussions with the parents after the drug has worn off? Are they aware?"

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty Pryde makes a somewhat muted, if unhappy noise in the back of her throat as she hears the person is exploiting religion on top of people with mutations. Kitty's hand drifts to the Star of David she's wearing around her neck, the Jewish symbol inscribed around the Tree of Life in the center, adorned with small precious jewels.

She otherwise stays focused on the goggles output though, saying, "Ok, input is working well. Enabling the feedback now which should start modifying the goggle's lenses to try to cause you to adjust your eyes as well. Which... granted, you don't have compound eyes so this can only test the basics, not if it's going to be effective," she says. She hits a button on the screen and the lenses begin adapting.

Clarice Ferguson has posed:
"We don't have their files, Hank. We can't contact any of the parents," Clarice points out a bit flatly. "And the children are still drugged - and collared. And in the possession of these... people." There's some real venom in the way she says that last word. But can anyone really blame her for having a strong reaction to something so similar to her own experiences. "Scott and Mystique are going to put together a plan to get the children out and shut these people down," she says flatly. "The sooner the better, before more children can be subjected to this."

Henry McCoy has posed:
Henry looks about with the goggles on, trying to focus in on different objects, near and far. "Understood. When the plan is formed, do make sure that I am involved." He comments, with a feral grin. "I expect there will want to be some repayment to this Reverend for their actions. I would very much enjoy teaching them the err of their ways."

"This is... odd. This is more designed for compound eyes. As my focus moves from node to node, there's a slight blur. I suspect it will work just fine for Dyani."

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty's expression is easy to read at the additional details she's heard. One of the jaws in her muscle twitches as if she's biting down at the mention of collars. Lockheed rises from where he'd settled, the dragon moving over to step down into Kitty's lap and curl up there. One of her hands goes to brush over his head without really thinking about it.

"Well, it's doing what we want it to," Kitty says of the goggles in agreement with Hank. "Or, what we think it should do. I think next we probably need Dyani herself so she can give us feedback on whether it's make the changes that help her train her own eyes then," she says. "Ok, can take them off now," she tells Hank as she shuts the program down.

Kitty swivels in her chair towards Clarice. "Yes, if you need help on it, I'm glad to help out," she says.

Clarice Ferguson has posed:
"Scott and Mystique are putting the team together, and organizing everything," Clarice replies, looking between the two. "Personally, I'd be happy to have either, or both of you along. But if there is a Magistrate there - if we do find one... Then he's mine," she says simply, with a grim, hard expression on her features. She never got the chance to take a swing at one of her captors - and she wasn't going to miss out on the opportunity.
Her eyes go to the goggles for a moment, and though it takes a visible for her to change gears she does manage to add, "Thank you both for... for helping Dyani like this."

Henry McCoy has posed:
Taking off the goggles, Henry blinks a few times. "I will speak with Scott, of course." The man mentions. He does look to Clarice, studying her for a moment. "Don't let the anger over-ride your good senses, Clarice." He offers, quietly.

He does grin at the thank you. "Of course, you're very welcome. I hope Dyani finds them useful - and hope she enjoys the new vision." A chuckle. Looking to Kitty, he beams. "Wonderful work, Kitty. Thank you."

Kitty Pryde has posed:
Kitty Pryde smiles over to Clarice. "Glad to be able to help. So many of us have things to adjust to. Nice to be able to help others through it," she says of helping Dyani.

A small nod of agreement is given at Hank's comment. "Anger. Fear. Aggression. Easily they flow. Quick to join you. Consume you they can," Kitty says, not doing the voice but also not changing the words so much that Yoda isn't recognizable in it. "Good of you to help them," she tells Clarice more gently, giving her a smile.

Kitty rises out of her chair then. "Ok, going to check on some things Forge was helping me fabricate. Hank, let me know if you want me there when Dyani tries them on," she says. "And Clarice, again, glad to help if you guys need it, with the other thing," she offers.

Clarice Ferguson has posed:
"I'm not sure anger covers it," Clarice states quietly. She's not sure she could sum it up in words, at all. She looks at Kitty - a bit puzzled by her words. She still hasn't seen Star Wars yet - so she wouldn't have understood the reference, even if the other woman had attempted the voice. "I won't be... consumed," she tries uncertainly. "And I'll be sure to let Scott and Mystique know you're both interested in helping."
She just hopes her powers are back before it's time to go deal with these people.
"Anyways. I should get going, I guess. I'll walk out with you, Kitty?" she suggests - so she's not wandering around a secret base unsupervised.
