A trouble with teleporting.
Date of Scene: 06 August 2021
Location: Boardwalk - St Martin's Island
Synopsis: A scene in which Koriand'r draws an audience. Vivian visits the beach. And Bando briefly misplaces his shorts.
Cast of Characters: Koriand'r, Vivian Vision, Bando George

Koriand'r has posed:
It is hot today. Almost oppressive in it's heat. And so, the beach on St. Martin's boardwalk is pretty packed. One of the..individuals enjoying the beach stands out a bit like a sore thumb: orange skin, bright emerald green eyes, and long flowing auburn locks mark Koriand'r's presence. She is currently laying on a towel, CLEARLY enjoying the UV bath she is getting in her just barely decent for public consumption bikini. There are a few gawkers nearby, but most seem to be giving the alien plenty of space today. Which is fine with her. She sighs happily, and then rolls over slowly on the towel, to let her back absorb some of the sun's delicious rays.

Vivian Vision has posed:
Given that Metropolis is home to both the Justice League and the Titans the beach at St. Martin's boardwalk is probably no stranger to unusual visitors. Which is why one Vivian Vision has picked it as her destination of choice for an after school day trip. The beach having been selected because pretty much every other time she's tried to visit one some sort of monster has attacked...

Plus it means she can stop by Titans Tower to perform a shift on watch. Perhaps complete some of the basic admin or tidying up chores that no-one ever seems to want to do.

Her own attire is decidedly more modest than a certain alien princess. A yellow one piece swimsuit and some flip-flops. Plus of course a small shoulder bag with her things in.

Bando George has posed:
Bando can't think anymore! Attention span is hard. Now that classes are done for the day, he has plenty of homework, but he isn't going to do it. Not until at least 10pm. Well, maybe he'll do it then. He took the risk of teleporting a couple of times. so he could get to the beach faster. He doesn't really need to focus hard on anything anyway right now. Of course, that means when he arrives with his backpack on his shoulders. His final teleportation lands him next to Koriand'r, though not intentionally, and he falls a good six inches. While he doesn't fall over, the teen clumsily stumbles several feet. "Whoa!" he laughs at his own misjudgment of his vertical. His skin is purple as well. He looks down. "Oh crap, where's my pants?" he wonders aloud, finding himself in plaid boxers and a long t-shirt. People might have mistaken it for swim trunks if he hadn't said anything, but regardless, he turns bright red.

Koriand'r has posed:
Someone appearing right next to her -- even in the middle of basking in the sun -- is cause for alarm for even Koriand'r. She recoils visibly, and shouts, "Ahh!" with her hands up, ready to start shooting starbolts should there be a threat from the sudden appearance. "Who are you?" she demands of the boy that has just snapped into existence next to her. She does not notice the lack of pants, or the commotion she's likely causing by reacting like this, but...this is what happens when someone appears right next to you without warning.

Vivian Vision has posed:
It doesn't really take a lot of work to locate Kori and Bando on the beach. Between the crowd and the reaction to the sudden teleportation there's unlikely to be anyone on the beach who isn't looking in that direction. Never mind the raised voices and implied threats of violence.

A portion of Vivs mind has already begun to skim social media and various online threat warning sites. And while there might not be any supervillain attacks or natural disasters underway it takes literally a fraction of a second to spot that at least one beach goer is a Starfire fan and has uploaded some pictures. Hopefully they asked for permission first.

So she's able to raise her voice and say "Good day, Ms. Koriand'r." before even getting past the crowd to see the lesser spotted flashin' Bando. And once she is in view, with a frown of confusion, adding "It appears to be a fellow student at the school I attend. Only he has turned purple and misplaced some of his clothing."

Bando George has posed:
"Whoa!" Bando holds up his hands in an apology of defense. "Sorry! Sorry." He smiles, and then drops them down. This is awkward. "Hi. Um. Yeah hi. Didn't mean to scare you," he glances around at the many onlookers. He may be all purple at the moment, but he is almost certainly blushing still. He uncomfortably covers himself, and glances back toward the parking lot. "Hi, um, Valerie?" he tries to remember Vivian's name. "No, Victoria, right? It's a V name, right?" Clearly he doesn't know her well. "I think I had a power glitch," he admits. "This is kinda embarrassing..." he glances back in the direction of the parking lot, looking to see if he can spot his lost shorts.

Koriand'r has posed:
"Vivian why is your friend teleporting around without warning? Do they not know that is a good way to get...I think the phrase is...yeeted into the sun?" Kori asks, as Vivian arrives and her hands slowly drop from being ready to shoot bolts of energy into the boy. She warily watches Bando for a moment or two, and then goes back to laying face down on the blanket. She closes her eyes and says, "Apology accepted, but do be careful of randomly teleporting into someone's personal space. They may not be as kind about their reaction as I have been." She then opens an eye and peeks up at Vivian, "It is nice to see you again," she says to her.

Vivian Vision has posed:
"My name is Vivian, or Viv for short," the synthezoid teen corrects as Bando struggles with her name. Pausing to open her bag, remove a towel and very neatly arrange it on the beach nearby. "As for why he is teleporting... I have no idea. I would not say we are even friends. We simply attend the same school.. I believe his name is quite unusual. Bando was it?"

She carefully sits herself down on the towel. Taking great care to prevent it getting all rumpled.

"It is always a pleasure to see members of the team outside of hostile and potentially world ending situations. I trust that you've been well?"

Bando George has posed:
Bando nods to Vivian, "Yeah, I mean, it's really a nickname. My name is Brandon, but my little sister had trouble saying it when she was a toddler and called me Bando, and it just kinda stuck, so now everybody calls me Bando," he turns his gaze back toward Koriand'r as he finishes. "I am really sorry, I didn't mean to. Yeeted into- OH! You're Starfire! Oh my goodness! Oh wow! Hi!" He can't pretend not to notice how little she's wearing, but he does a remarkably good job of keeping his eyes on appropriate places, unlike most young men his age. "I'm going to um, I'm gonna find my pants real quick," he suggests. "I'll be right back." Fwump. He disappears again, reappearing near the parking lot, and stumbles around, checking for his shorts under cars and in tall grass.

Koriand'r has posed:
"What a strange young man. Also a little dense. If he teleports back here I may zap him to see if that helps him learn." Kori comments to Vivian, before she looks at how meticulously the synthezoid girl lays out her towel and settles onto it. "I can't ever keep sand off of my towel like you. How do you do it? It sneaks onto my towel, and then onto me....and it's just so annoying. Worst part of the beach. By Far." Not the ooglers who are snapping unauthorized pictures of her. Those are fine. It's sand that gets her goat.

Vivian Vision has posed:
"I suspect he is trying to understand a newly obtained superpower," Vivian ponders. Brushing her hair behind her ear and then adding "Which, if it disrobes him unexpectedly, should probably be training he is not doing in public..."

Her brow furrows and then she shrugs. "I reduce my density so that I am not heavy enough to cause the fabric to change position. And any which does adhere to me I can simply remove by bringing myself out of phase with the world for a moment. Then returning after it's fallen to the floor. It does however mean all my garments need to be specially created from a unique material."

To protect her own privacy  she begins generating a very subtle holographic field. Inside which little black dots block the lenses of any cameras that are pointed at her.

"Do you often visit the beach here? Or is today a special occasion?"

Bando George has posed:
Bando continues to fumble around, and finally finds his shorts under a pickup truck. He pulls them back on without removing his shoes, and does have the good sense not to teleport again. He's really pushing his limits. He wanders back, now properly dressed. "Okay, all better," he announces, trudging through the sand. "That's never happened before. Sometimes quantum stuff acts weird," he explains. "And I'm not usually purple. But that'll probably be fine in a few minutes, it always wears off." He seems a little oblivious to his awkwardness, just jumping back into the conversation as if it had been on pause while he was gone.

"So. Like, really Starfire," he says. "Right here! Wait, Vivian, do you know her already? That's like, epic!" He grins a natural, unpresentable goofy grin. "Man, I think Happy Harbor's gonna be the greatest!"

Koriand'r has posed:
"I'm envious of that ability," Kori says to Vivian, sounding genuinely envious of her being able to so easily displace sand. "I do not come here often but I had a new swimsuit," (if you could call it that) "and wanted to soak up some sun. So here I am." She shifts a little, and then lays her head back down on the blanket, and has just closed her eyes when Bando returns and speaks at her. She looks up, "Yes. That is what they call me here sometimes," she replies to his comment, and then, it seems she realizes the crowd that has gathered around. She considers for a few moments, and then says, "I should probably go though, it seems...I have found a few too many admirers."

Vivian Vision has posed:
"Phasing is very useful," Viv agrees solemnly, nodding. "I see well.. it is certainly very... popular." She doesn't really know much about fashion. But clearly it seems the onlookers like it. Not that many people could actually pull off such a look..

"I am sure I'll run into you again around the Tower at some point soon." And then she glances over to Bando and raises an eyebrow "I am technically one of the Titans so it should not be a huge shock I have met them before. Admittedly I am only quite a junior member and have to balance my attendance at school with my work for the team..."

"Titans Tower is just off the coast. So it's not unsual to meet members of the team here. Caitlin even teaches some classes at school. When she's not lost in space or fighting alien invasions that is."

Bando George has posed:
Bando nods, "Oh yeah, I guess that's true," he admits to Vivian. "I guess I shoulda thought of that." Suddenly, his skin pops back to a tan caucasian. Far more 'normal' than his color a moment ago. "Oh look, there we go, I told you it'd go back," he points out. As Koriand'r comments on having too many admirers, there's a sheepish look that comes over his face. "Uh, sorry, I didn't mean to be weird about it. I just wanna say you do a great job, superheroing and all. I'm starting that up too," he offers excitedly. The look on his face says that he realizes that he may be the reason she's leaving, even though he tries to keep looking like the conversation is completely on track.

Koriand'r has posed:
"You did not. Outside of teleporting right next to me without warning." Kori replies to Bando as she picks up her blanket and folds it. "I am glad to hear you are starting down the path to being a super hero. That is a rewarding choice. Just, remember to always stand on the side of good. Lest I throw you into the sun." Kori replies to him, before she floats off the ground, gives a wink to maybe Vivian, or Bando, or the crowd in general, and then zooms off towards the large T tower in the distance.

Vivian Vision has posed:
"I would also suggest figuring out why your clothing did not teleport before you fully take up superheroics," Vivian adds solemnly, giving Bando a frown. "It would not be good to arrive in a battle with a supervillain with your... ahem... civilian identity unprotected. Amongst other things.."

She returns the wink with a shy smile and a wave. "Safe flying Kori."

Once the alien princess has taken to the sky she glances at Bando and adds "Don't worry. I do not think she is strong enough to actually throw you into the sun." A beats pause. "Not without physically carrying you into orbit first. Besides you would suffocate long before the sun itself was a problem."

Bando George has posed:
Vivian answers what Bando was indeed going to ask. "Oh, well, that's not so bad then. I'd have plenty of time to talk her down," he considers. "I wonder how long it'd take me to get to the sun if she did," he ponders, seeming not very concerned about the comment. After all, she's a hero! Surely she wouldn't do that.

"I mean, I've never had that happen before. Weird stuff happens occasionally, but it's not really that big a deal normally. Besides, I've already been superheroing," he declares proudly. "I've stopped a drug thing, and I saved some people from a gang fight, and I helped stop this big weird army of tribesmen and ghost spiders! I'm pretty good at it I think," he declares proudly.

Vivian Vision has posed:
"It would depend on how long she was willing to accelerate you before release," Vivian muses. Running the numbers in her head. "I expect months if not years. Providing you didn't get caught in a gravity well or hit by space debris which adjusted your course before then."

Her head tilts at the list of superheroics. "You stopped Ghost Spider? But she's a superhero too... Anyway just make sure you take proper care when fighting crime. Organics are generally very easy to injured and if you get hurt it'll impact your education."

With Starfire gone most of the crowd rapidly begins to disperse. Especially when they discover they can't actually take any pictures of the new, much less jaw dropping, oddities that've replaced her on the beach. One of which hasn't even had the deceny to stay a strange colour!

Bando George has posed:
"No no," Bando clarifies. "Though I worked /with/ Ghost Spider on one of those," there's a certain pride of being adjacent to a more famous hero. "The ghost spiders were some weird wanna be god of death trying to kill everything in the Bronx. For...whatever reason, I never really got it, but stopped it!" He raises a finger as if that is the point. "But yeah, I had like a bunch of bruises. I never realized how long you have to take a break between doing superhero things," he comments. "Anyway. Um, good to see you again? By the way, if you're like the Vision's daughter," he says the word as if he's not entirely sure that's the vocabulary he should use, "How come you have to go to school? I mean, can't you just download everything you need to know?"

Vivian Vision has posed:
"Ah. Yes that makes more sense," Viv responds. "I once had to help defeat a corrupted personification of the planet Earth. It was quite odd. Thankfully no-one was significantly injured." Well unless you count 'Captain Planet' himself that is. "It's always a good idea to try and understand the motivation of a foe. That way you can more effectively predict how they will act and what course of action you should take. But alas this is often impossible."

Another shrug.

"I am sure we'll see each other frequently around the school." She blinks a few times. "Why do I attend school? Currently AI have no legal rights. So by attending a school, which is something I don't believe any AI has ever done openly, I hope to show we can act in a civilised manner and are not to be feared. There isn't anything I will learn in class directly which is useful. However it provides me with countless ways to deepen my understanding of humanity."

Bando George has posed:
"Oh, that's...cool," he says, not sure what the personification of planet Earth actually would look like. "I dunno, people all think a lot more alike than they want to admit," he says. "My pastor says if you can understand sin, and the way it affects every person, you can relate to it in anyone. People love stuff, they're scared of stuff. What they love and what they fear makes up most of the reasons behind what they do. From bein' heroes to being villains to bein' doctors or janitors or whatever." He grins, "But if we have a class together, I really hope to get you for a study buddy," he teases. "It'd be handy to have someone who already understands all the stuff. I'm terrible at studying."

Vivian Vision has posed:
Vivian Vision chews at her lip and then replies "That is very poor advice. 'Sin' is entirely subjective. Besides to the best of my knowledge neither love nor fear are sins in most major belief systems. Personally I much prefer to use empirical data to determine a possible scheme. If several labs have been robbed and they are all working on a certain type of technology you can assume that other labs which match that profile will be at risk. And your criminal suspect is someone with a background or interest in that technology... or at least being paid by someone who is."

The synthezoid teen adjusts her position on her towel and idly pokes at the sand with her fingers.

"I think I am in the year grouping above yours. However if I am mistaken you'll find that I always insist on people I am working with doing a fair share of tasks. It would be unfair if I simply did all the work."

Bando George has posed:
Bando grins lopsidedly. "Sin isn't subjective, people just think it is," he comments. Maybe sounding a little like a certain Star Spangled hero everyone knows. "Love and fear aren't sins, but they are what fuels people's decisions. I am a little trouble focusing right now," he says, his verbal grammar even suffering from his ADHD. Perhaps he did do a little too much teleporting. "Anyway. Yeah, if you can understand what people love and what they fear, you can come to understand just about anything else about them." He shrugs. "I'm gonna go jump in the water. My brain is tired," he admits.
