Date of Scene: 07 September 2021
Location: Hall of Justice - New Troy
Synopsis: John and Hal meet and discuss what's been happening on Earth.
Cast of Characters: Hal Jordan, John Stewart

Hal Jordan has posed:
Hal is hanging out in the monitor room of the Hall when his ring alerts him to another Lantern coming into the building. Standing up, he walks out to the main foyer to find out what brings another Lantern to Earth. Honestly, it isn't a terrible thing given how busy Earth keeps him with it's myriad of supervillains and alien invasions.

As John comes through the doors, he lifts a hand in greeting to the other Lantern. "Hello, what brings you to our little corner of the galaxy? Anything I should know about?"

John Stewart has posed:
Unlike Hal, John walks in wearing civilian attire. White shirt and leans with a black biker's jacket over it and sunglasses. His power ring is on his finger though... easily noticed by anyone who know what they're looking at.

Walking over to Hal, John offers his right hand for a handshake. "The Guardians decided I was done with my mentorship and sent me as your new partner. I apologize for having not been in contact with you until now, but I had a series of events that demanded my attention the second I came out of hyperspace."

Hal Jordan has posed:
Hal nods, taking the offered hand with a smile, "I can't say I mind. For some reason, Earth is a really busy spot. Having another Lantern to help out sounds like a really good thing." He chuckles "I don't really know why, but this place seems like a hotbed of villain activity, so I hope you're ready to be kept on your toes."

"So, you from around here? Need to know how much background on Earth you'll need besides the boring stuff in the Oan archives. Also on that front, have you got a place to stay?"

John Stewart has posed:
"I was born in detroit and I spent most of my 20s in the marines. I just need a refresher for the last half decade, which I've been trying to learn as I go." John smirks then, "I have a place to stay for now. I've even managed to get back in contact with some old Architect contacts and I have a contract already."

Hal Jordan has posed:
Hal nods, "Ok, well, that's good then. Not starting completely from scratch makes both our lives easier. Let's see, the last five years.. Comon, let's grab a seat and we can talk." He gestures at the seating area nearby.

Once they move over to the seats he continues, "Ok, let's see. We had an invasion by the Brood, Superman died fighting Doomsday and came back, Frost Giants and Dark Elves invaded New York with Loki's help and those Sentinel robots went kind of berserk and were attacking all mutants, leading to their being shut down. Think that's about all the major events I can think of."

John Stewart has posed:
"I was here for the Brood. The Guardians actually sent me my ring during that whole crisis. Everyone was away, so I had to learn on the fly." John crosses his arms as he takes a his seat, "What is Doomsday? The database isn't much of a help in that. I don't know much about Sentinels either."

Hal Jordan has posed:
With a laugh, Hal nods his head, "I totally get the learning on the fly thing, same thing happened here. A Lantern names Abin Sur crash landed here and the ring chose me as a Lantern. I did get to Oa for training, but had a little on the job training before I managed to get there. Now, Doomsday, let's see. I was actually off-planet for that mess which I still feel bad about, because there were several fatalities, including Superman. Doomsday was a genetically engineered life form developed to try and match the power of Kryptonians during the time of the Kryptonian Hegemony. Apparently it broke free eventually and has been popping up here and there to wreak havoc on whatever planet it ends up on." He stops to think for a moment, the ring giving a quick glow as he accesses the database.

"There we go. Check reference 'Kryptonian Hegemony Countermeasures' for fuller info. It's a bit extensive, so I won't bore you by reciting all the facts."

"Now, Sentinels are an Earth invention. They were large robots designed to find and capture or destroy mutants. They were supposed to be just for hunting mutant criminals, but ended up attacking any mutant they found. So, they ended up shut down and the factory was disabled, so we don't need to worry too much about them."

John Stewart has posed:
"I remember when they went to Oa. I didn't realize it was them though." John looks to Hal, his eyebrows visibly frowning behind his sunglasses, before he takes them off, revealing concerned brown eyes. "They're /here/? The Kryptonians?"

Hal Jordan has posed:
Hal nods, gesturing at one of the paintings of various League members featuring Superman. "He's a founding member of the League, in fact. He and the others are some of Earth's most powerful defenders, they've probably saved the planet more times than I can count."

Leaning back, he shrugs a little, "If you're assigned here, you'll be working with them quite a bit. Hope that isn't a problem, because it isn't really negotiable. The Oans finally understand that the few remaining Kryptonians were not a threat, which is why the Corps was told to stand down and allow them to go on their way."

John Stewart has posed:
"If you vouch for them, that's enough for me." John places his sunglasses in a pocket and crosses his arms again, "I know what it's like to grow up with prejudice." John brings up a hand and pokes his cheek, "Black man in Detroit who lived in poverty. Comes with the territory."

Then, he raises a brow in curiosity, "I'm guessing they were born outside of Hegemony influence? That's the best explanation. But in any case, These Sentinels... what do they do?"

Hal Jordan has posed:
"Sentinels, ok. Twenty foot tall robots designed to battle mutant threats. Energy weapons, ability to fly, and a learning computer core. Not true AI but able to learn from encounters and communicate the learned data to other units. But as I mentioned, they basically went rogue and started killing every mutant they found, so in 2018 the Sokovian Accords were signed, barring the use or manufacture of Sentinels. Basically what it comes down to is if you see one, destroy it, it shouldn't be around."

John Stewart has posed:
"Any idea why they went rogue? I'd chalk it up to learning hueristics or an outside party." John asks.

Hal Jordan has posed:
Hal shrugs, saying "I don't actually know what happened there, but yeah, I'd guess probably the software was tampered with. Lots of people out there who hate mutants for some reason. I don't quite understand why some super powered individuals seem to be accepted, but mutants in specific are targeted. But that's people for you, they don't always make much sense."

He sits back, shaking his head a little and goes on "Let's see.. Other than the regular supervillain plots and plans for world domination things are pretty quiet right now."

John Stewart has posed:
"Something to check out, just so I know how to handle it. Preparedness is never a bad thing." John notes, "Mutants are targetted for the same reason anyone is targetted: They are different, and therefore an unknown. You literally can never know if a mew mutant is going to cause harm when their powers first express themselves."

The frowns a bit at Hal, "think about it. If our Power Rings did some random act of destruction upon being worn for the first time... and if we suddenly had another Magneto wearing a ring? You bet your ass people would be terrified of Lanterns."

He points to himself, "people /still/ have issues with my ethnicity depending on who you ask, but mutants can be a genuine threat to life. I'm not saying that's an excuse for the bullshit, but given those facts? It's easy to understand why they get a bad rep with the fearmongerers."

Hal Jordan has posed:
"I mean, I get it, it's that they accept people like the Teen Titans or the Justice League, but somehow being a mutant isn't acceptable. I can't wrap my head around the 'Some powers are ok, but others are evil' mentality. But then, racism in any form has never made sense to me. and it's just an extension of that."

He sits forward a little and says, "We don't usually have to help the mutant population that much, they have a bunch of their own defenders, but at the same time, if they're in trouble and we're around, by all means step in." His ring pulses slightly and he says, "And that's a reminder that I need to be somewhere in a little while. I can often be found here or up on the Moon in the Watchtower, but you can always reach me through the Ring, of course."

He stands and offers his hand, "It was good meeting you, and believe me, it's nice having a partner to split the load with."

John Stewart has posed:
He takes it firmly. "We need to talk about the Phoenix sometime soon, but it can wait." John tells him. Then, he stands up and starts to walk torwards the entry, "I've got a place in Manhatten, a nice loft. Drop by whenever you like."
