Kickin It in the Rec Room
Date of Scene: 22 September 2021
Location: Recreation Room
Synopsis: A friendly game of pool leads Sam and Tabby to discuss training strategies among other things.
Cast of Characters: Tabitha Smith, Samuel Guthrie

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha hasn't been seen a lot since James Proudstar came home unless one happened to catch her transiting between her room and the kitchen or her room and Jim's, but today she's kickin' it old school by tearing up Grand Theft Auto in the rec room. She's also kicking it old school in her big hair, pink top, jeans and bright yellow suspenders. Just the way she was dressed the first time she met Sam and the other New Mutants. Wow... she can still fit in that? Skinny chick is still skinny.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie comes walking into the room, he is wearing jeans and a t-shirt with a flannel shirt left open over it. He has a metal case with him, and looking over and seeing Boomer, he smirks a bit, and says "Thug on ya 5." He tells her to help on the game as he walks over towards the pool table.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith doesn't even glance away from the screen as she knocks off another headshot as Michael, "You know I'm better at this than you, Sam. Care to pick a game you have a shot at and join me?" Of course Tabby doesn't think anyone stands a chance against her at any game.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over to her and says "I have picked my game for tonight, something that have to work a bit more than my thumbs for." He does grin at her, and says "You can come join me over here at the pool table if you want." He grins opening the case and puts the pool cue together.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith pauses her game so she can glance over at Sam then smirks a bit in return. "Care to pick something I have a better shot at than pool?" She looks back to her game to work her way through the rest of the mission before saving.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over, and says "Well we could try ping pong." He offers with a grin and says "Been teaching the new Russian student how to play pool, and also helping her with her English while doing it." He waits to see what Tabby wants to do.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith chuckles, "You're determined to make me exercise something, eh? New Russian student, eh? She any kinda cool?" As it happens she was pretty close to the end of cleaning up that segment anyway and she's soon saving and standing up from the game to walk over to the pool table. "I suppose you could help me with my pool too. Hustling pool is a good survival skill as long as you can avoid getting your tail kicked for it."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over and smiles a bit to that, and says "She is an ok kid, child soldier type learning to be more her own person than minion of the state." He will look over to Tabby, as he racks the balls. I think she is less used to normal life than Illyana was when we found her."

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith grabs a cue stick and heads over to the table, "Darkchylde Illyana or little Illyana? I mean either way that's... pretty extreme. So I break and then you run the table or what?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie chuckles a bit and says "Teen Illyana when she got back from Limbo, she at least had those first few years with a normal family, and had Piotr here. Kitty stepping in to help her through things and such ya know?" He will nod to let Tabby break

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith simply shakes her head, teased up hair staying just where the product put it when she was done with it. She leans in to put the cue ball where she wants it then leans in to break. The balls scatter nicely but nothing falls into a pocket for her. She backs away with a snap. "Okay. Let's see the man work. What's the new kid's name?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over as he walks around the table looking over the shots before finding the nest set of them, and leans over getting one of the high balls in "Stripes." He calls out and as he moves to line up another one and says "Dashenka, as Ah said she is just learning English so if she has a bit of trouble with words, help her out a bit. Mind you she was talking to Jubes when Ah came in.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith looks over then table and leans on her cue a little, nodding. "Dunno how much help I can be to someone just learnin' the language, but y'never know." Tabby's still a bit of a prankster but she manages to keep her urge to cause a distraction under control as she watches him.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over and says "Well you can tell her some of the regular words for slang words she might hear, I do believe no one can speak slang better than you." He will make another shot, but then being in a bad shot misses it.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith flashes Sam a grin, "Truer words." This is followed by a wink. She lines one up down one of the long rails toward the corner pocket and actually manages to sink it without sending the cue ball in right after it only to scratch in a completely different corner without even touching a ball on her next shot. "I can translate English slang into regular English for sure."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie will walk over grabbing himself and Tabby a drink while she takes her shot. He will offer her, her drink after her shot, and takes a sip of his own before lining up his shot, and sinking a couple more in "You know you practice this more, we might be able to use it in your training."

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith accepts the drink and just misses hip-checking the table as she turns toward him, "Use it in my training how?" She takes a step back and sips on her drink.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie will explain how the balls are going to bounce off one of the sides and where it is going to go "If you can get the physics of the ricochet down, then you can throw your time bombs at one place and bounce them down a hall without having to stick your head around the corner.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith frowns as Sam explain exactly how his shot is going to work then watches it do exactly what he said before asking, "So if I don't look around the corner, how do I know where I want my time bomb to land?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie says, "Well, if you know there are guys down the hall shooting at us or something you can generally get an idea about how far away they are from noise they are making, or if one of us sees it from a different angle, we can tell you where, sorta like the guy in the game when Ah walked in"

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith nods several times, that big hair bouncing a bit as she does, "So you mean you want me to practice headshotting bad guys with time bombs around a corner from the vague directions of a spotter? Now that sounds like a fun session in the danger room. Jimmy would make a great spotter."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks at her, and says "Well more foot shoots than head shots, we don't want to kill them. But yea, I think working on that could be of useful, and if you get it down we might be able to talk to Beast or someone and get them to rig you up some launchers sorta like that guy on my hero Academia."

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith blinks and looks at him, then the table then back, "The who on the what now? Is it my shot? I've lost track."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods, and says "Yea it is your shot, and it is a guy from an anime, he can make his sweat explode, and he wears these grenade looking wrist guards that stores it and allows him to shot it out in bigger blasts. You ain't got the problem with needing more, but if you could launch a time ball, say half a football field?

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith turns back to the table as she says, "I would definitely have a problem aiming at that kind of a distance without a rangefinder and a scope, but it's an interesting thought. Like maybe a baseball launcher for practicing in a batting cage except on my wrist Spider-man style?" Her next shot results in a miss as well before she notes, "Sounds like a lot of math by the way."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks to Tabby and says "It is, but once you get used to it you can do it more by feel than by math. Ah have faith in you and know if you set your mind to something you can do it.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith circles the table as she plays with her cue stick a little, "So... I figure it out and you recommend I get moved from the training roster to full X-man?"

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie says, "Well not just my recommendation, I am sure Scott will have a training session he will send you through to test you out. He will want to see what you can do not just take my word for it."

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith seems to have forgotten the pool again at this point, "Yeah. Sure. Of course. Scott doesn't take anyone's word for anything, but he won't even test me unless my mentor says it's worth his time to do it. You know everyone thinks I don't have a lot of self-control still."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie says, "Well, I have a few things I can show where you have a bit more control than you used to, and you have been sticking to your training. If you show your willing to be responsible, like making it to work on time and hold down the job for a bit it will help too."

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith smiles wryly, "So is that a yes to the recommendation then?" She gives him a hopeful smile and carefully leans one hip against the table as she waits for the answer.

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods his head and says "Yes, Tab, I trust you to watch my back, I think you will do what is needed done, and think you want this enough to listen when your told something. You can be serious when you want something and I know that."

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith pushes off the table and leaves her cue stick behind as she moves to enthusiastically offer Sam a hug, "Thanks, Sam. This actually means a lot to me."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie smiles and hugs her in return, and says "You have worked on it hon, and you can do it." He offers rubbing her back for a moment. "So, how things with you and Jimmy, he recovering ok?"

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith presses a kiss on his cheek as she hugs him tight then pulls back, "He's glad to be home. Not calling out John's name unexpectedly anymore... or at least I'm not hearing it if he is. I think he's doing good."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie nods, and says "Good, Ah need to catch up with him, and hang out a bit and check up on him. Ah do wish there had been a chance we would have been about to save John.

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith nods, "Just glad I got the one back." She shrugs a shoulder and turns to look the other way, "That was good what you did with Richtor and Magma. Very good move. If I never see one of those Dominators again, it will be too soon."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie looks over and says "Well, I was hoping we would not have to bust heads, but at least maybe they will realize what we are capable of and think twice before coming here again

Tabitha Smith has posed:
Tabitha Smith nods then looks back to the table and grimaces. "Looks like I bumped the table too hard when I pushed off it. Screwed up the game you were winning. Good thing we weren't betting on it or anything." She glances at him again, "Probably should get to bed. I've got some things to work on an' all t'morrow."

Samuel Guthrie has posed:
Sam Guthrie grins a bit at her and says "Ah am sure, you don't know your own strength there." He chuckles a bit and will say "Ah'll see ya tomorrow Tabby Cat." He will move to play out the rest of the game solo.
