Thin gray line
Date of Scene: 07 October 2021
Location: Police Precinct 78
Synopsis: Tetsuya sees something shady happening at a donut shop and investigates.
Cast of Characters: Shredder, Tetsuya Wakao

Shredder has posed:
Brooklyn isn't the worst town in NYC, but it's hardly the safest, either. The city's cops here have to deal with all sorts of things. They are next to Bushwick, which means they have mutant problems. The presence of super villains always presents a threat to the safety of the officers, and they certainly don't have the largest budget in the county.

The rain is drizzling down past the street lights, entering visibility as it passes through the beams of light. The light precipitation has made the asphalt shine like Christmas, reflecting the city lights in all of their colors as the occassional car passes the army of squad cars that are parked facing inward.

One officer exits the station, and jay walks across the intersection, heading for the donought plant. Stereotypes may be in full force, but...the place is closed right now. Given the light traffic, the officer doesn't even seem to concern himself with looking around, pulling a key from his pocket and opening the lock.

Tetsuya Wakao has posed:
The light rain is still enough for one to go with an umbrella at least. That is what has lead to Tetsuya at least having one as he wandered the streets, looking at a small map and occasionally pulling his cellphone to make sure he is headed the right direction.

Stopping at an intersection, he makes sure he's no where near the street corner for car splashes before checking his phone again and the piece of paper. Looking up afterwards, he patiently waits for the light to turn so he can walk across.

At least that is until he sees the odd sight. An officer with a key to the donut shop? That's even more peculiar and making him curious as to what is happening. Once the light changes, Tetsuya heads that way casually to investigate said oddity.

Shredder has posed:
The cop disappears into the dark shop, not turning on any of the lights as he makes his way behind the counter. It's not but about thirty seconds before a second figure, a rather lightweight teenage girl of asian descent follows suit. She wears black form fitting pants, and a black leather jacket with a red cotton hood pulled over her head.

As she reaches the door, she glances in Tetsuya's direction, but doesn't change her course of action as she pulls the handle and enters. She can't be much taller than 5'3". Certainly not old enough to be of any authority in a shop, and what business a young teenage girl would have with an adult man in a closed donut shop is certainly suspicious. The door closes behind her, and she in turn also heads in the same direction as the officer.

Tetsuya Wakao has posed:
Well, Tetsuya has been spotted apparently. So, he does the natural thing first. Look in as he passes by the front out of the corner of his eye.

Depending upon what he sees will determine his next actions at least.

The teenage girl definitely made him wonder now, along with the cop has him perhaps curious now. Owner's daughter or something? He at least knew this was closer to Bushwick and some other craziness in New York. Pulling out his cellphone again, he pretends to be looking at it while checking the map on his screen.

Shredder has posed:
What are they doing in there? Surely nothing good. After several minutes, the cop appears from the back, thankfully, he's still fully dressed. He goes to one of the booths, and pulls a paper bag from under one of the tables, it was taped with duct tape. Not as alert as the teenager, he turns around and starts to take it back toward the back room again.

Tetsuya Wakao has posed:
Oh, now that definitely has him alert. Dirty cops are not something that anyone likes but criminals. Tetsuya goes back across and looks at the door, eyeing it as he tries to figure out if there's a bell on it or not before opening it.

Then he tries the door to go inside, making sure to reach up and stop the bell as quickly as he can to ensure not to alert anyone.

Once inside, he closes his umbrella and... stashes it under his coat? That's got to be one of the oddest things whenever it actually all fits under the coat. Of course, anyone who could sense ki or magic would note that he used some to make that disappear.

Then he ventures into the darkened donut shop.

Shredder has posed:
"So there it is, four grand," the voice of the cop can be heard. "And you guys keep all the cash there, just as we agreed." There's no answer for several seconds, but soon the back of the uniform can be seen.

"It's all there," the girl's voice responds. At least, it's likely to be. She sounds older than she looks, hard and disciplined in her tone far beyond her physical appearance would have suggested. "Rabble gang is located on Park Place and they are operating out of the Middle School there," she says. "When we strike will be our call. If you want your glory, then you will need to respond immediately."

"What if I'm not on patrol?" the man asks.

"If you want your glory, you will need to respond immediately," the girl repeats, a tone of annoyance in her voice.

Tetsuya Wakao has posed:
Moving to near the door, Tetsuya stays silent as he listens in.

The girl's apparent age being older than what she appears has Tetsuya looking around the corner carefully.

The words have him frowning, different scenarioes running through his mind as he also tries to place the girl, no woman he puts in his head so he can figure out what is really going on. Gang turf wars? That Park Place and this 'Rabble gang' are going to be something that he definitely looks into. Soon.

Shredder has posed:
"Okay, fine," the officer says. "I'll make sure to get in the area. I'll come up with a story. Sick of sitting at officer for the last six years. I can pass the detective exam, I just can't get the-"

"I don't care," the girl answers dryly, cutting him off. Not many teen girls can command in such a way. "This is what we came for, we're done. We'll call you when it's time." She starts to walk past the man, carrying the paper bag and heading toward the front of the shop again, in the direction of Tetsuya.

Tetsuya Wakao has posed:
Tetsuya frowns, then quickly does a bit of ninja'ing. Namely, his Shadow in the Water spell. Since he's beside the door, he hopes that she won't turn that way else this will be awkward. He literally disappears into thin air, as if he wasn't there visually to anything and plastered up against the corner wall.

It's only a moment later that he remembers he was in the rain. And glances down to the puddle that may or may not be at his feet.

Cheap clothes mean he doesn't have any actual weather proof gear, after all.

He glances over to where the woman and the cop should be coming out of.

Shredder has posed:
The girl with the hood passes through the door, and almost walks into Tetsuya, her foot hitting the small puddle beneath his feet. She's within inches, and freezes, looking down at the puddle. She looks around the room, and inhales...smelling. She doesn't see him in his invisibility, but the cop starts to follow her, and she holds her hand up.

"Someone is here," she says. "Were you followed?" dark eyes dart about the room.

Tetsuya Wakao has posed:
Oh, great. They are perceptive. Tetsuya glances at the cop to see if he is armed, then to the woman that is so very inches close to him.

The question now is how best to get out of this predicament that he has found himself in. He full well knows the limitations of this spell.

Deciding to make a break for it, he unleashes a sudden knee strike at the woman's stomach before trying to throw her into the cop in hopes to knock both down.

It's not the best move, but he's hoping to get some time while the dark room keeps them from seeing who it is despite his off-white coat.

Shredder has posed:
There's a moment's recognition on the Japanese girl's face just before impact, but she's not able to respond quickly enough as she takes the knee to the diaphram. Off balance, she finds herself tossed into the cop, who stumbles back, catching her. He rolls her to the side of him as she coughs, trying to get her wind back, and draws his weapon.

"Freeze!" he declares, drawing his weapon. He's not quite sure what's going on, but there's someone there now, he spots the coat, and in his less prepared moment he tries to take aim with the pistol.

Tetsuya Wakao has posed:
Tetsuya certainly doesn't stop moving after that. Instead, he dives over the counter doing an impressive side roll in the air so he doesn't even touch the counter to land on the floor and slide a little towards the door.

His hands move to his coat before tossing out a pair of smoke bombs towards the pair. He makes sure to try to peg the cop in the forehead specifically, too.

What comes out is a dark cloud, brine smelling smoke no matter where they land as he triggers another one where he is. The darkness of the room is sure to keep his identity secret, so he resolves to turn into his alter ego ninja gear in order to cause a bit more confusion. More smoke bombs follow before he heads for the door to make a hasty exit, keeping low to avoid potential gun fire.

And just to make it awkward along the way, he looks for a fire alarm to try to pull that.

Shredder has posed:
The cop winces, smoke pellets unexpected. The girl seems more eager to act even though she has taken a disorienting strike, and kunai are produced from inside the jacket, flinging in the direction, though the casting is blind, so their likelihood of striking is low. She hops the counter into the smoke herself, disappearing from view.

When the fire alarm goes off, her voice comes from within. "Get out of here," she commands. "I'll talk with you later."

Tetsuya Wakao has posed:
Soryu, also known as Tetsuya, meanwhile, exits out the front before leaping impossibly high to the donut shop's roof, followed by more leaps as he takes off at full speed and bounds away.

The chaos caused will surely slow down the cops across the street among other things, and he's avoiding that sort of publicity. The ninja heads off towards Park Place at the moment to scope that out at speeds no normal human could probably match in terms of leaping rooftops.
