Cast of Characters: Tynan Ireton, Mairin Moran, Nettie Crowe

Tynan Ireton has posed:
It has been a long day. Ty recieved a call late in the night the day before, and then kinda secuded herself away from people a bit. The shop is pretty much closing for the day, yet for Nettie's two students at the moment, its still open to them. Ty is off to the side, sitting on her own. She takes long moment to breathe in and out before she pulls out a gold and silver flask. She stares at it for a long time. A very long time.

The woman undoes the top of the flask, which holds a small shot glass. Its a very very expensive looking shot glass. The woman is extremely careful as she pours out a shot, and spins the flask carefully to keep from spilling the aged whiskey. Its a very very dark color, and given how Ty is handling it, it must be special. The woman takes a long moment before lifting it up, staring at it a bit.

After a few seconds, she downs it. Ty breathes deep as her body stiffens. For somebody like her, that has to be something special. She takes a long moment to take a silk napkin, and carefully cleans the glass. She puts it back on the flask, and seals it all up. The woman returns it to secured pocket she has in her cargo pants. Then the woman just looks out the window, just staring at nothing while a piece of paper with a circle and gaelic sit next to her. It looks like something she was working on.

Mairin Moran has posed:
The door opens and Mairin slides in, closing it softly behind her. She leans back against the doorframe for a second, eyes scanning the room. Seeing Ty but no Nettie, she walks over to where Ty is sitting and just skides down to sit on the floor, dropping her everpresent satchel beside her. It's a little odd though. The bag is empty.

"Hey, Ty," she says, the exhaustion plain in her voice. Not the out of breath sort... But the bone deep sort that only comes from staying up all night while running a marathon. "Are you feeling any better?"

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty just turns slightly, and eyes Mairin. There's a lot of emotion playing in those eyes. Rage, loniness, sadness, and a range of other emtions play out. Ty then settles to just exhaustion. "Lass, this probably isn't the best time to catch me.", she tells. The woman goes back to staring out the window a bit. Her heavy breathing starts to settle down. Can't let the wonder child see her rattled. Or Nettie. They'll rag on her about it.

"What do you need?", she asks Mairin. "I have ghosts that I must attend to at the moment.", she says. Ty shakes her head a bit. The mercenary now realizes that that has a double meaning for them. It could actually be literal ghosts if Mairin is involved.

Mairin Moran has posed:
She nods, but doesn't make any motion to get up. Then shrugs slightly. "About a week's worth of sleep? Maybe another week with no one expecting me to move mountains... or be stronger... or be more mature... or have answers..." She glances back to the back room and lowers her voice a little. "Maybe another week of people not taking evrything I say the worst possibly way it could be taken."

She shifts a bit, stretching one leg out and leaning back against a bookcase. "You know... Someone told me the other day that I was afraid of everything. And he meant *everything*." She shrugs. "And I couldn't argue."

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty shakes her head a little bit. "Fear is a survival instinct. Its also something that can hold you back. You have to learn the difference between instinct and something holding you down.", she tells. The woman sighs a bit as she looks out the window. "At least in what you're doing, there's far littler risk involved. A little disappointment is of little worry compared to what I worry about when I work.", she tells. The woman sighs a bit. "And you do create a lot of your own problems you know.", she says.

TY stretches out a little bit, and shifts a bit. "I'm guessing you've been running yourself ragged. I could make you a cup of ginger or oolong tea to give you a perk.", she says. Its rare for Ty to offer to make somebody else a cup of tea...

Mairin Moran has posed:
She shakes her head, starring up at the rafters. "I'm not trying to compete with you for misery, Ty. I can't imagine what you have to deal with. Or what you have gone through. I mean, we have about as much in common as...." She shrugs. "Well a kitten and a rabbit. I'm just trying to tell you..." She squints, as if trying to remember exactly what it was she *was* trying to say.

"Well... Last time we talked, you were upset about me having defended you. About getting saved by the civilian. And I just got the impression that you felt I thought I was all that. Or that Nettie does.

"And I just wanted to tell you that I'm not. I'm not anything special. I'm just... scared."

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Well, that's bullshite there, Rabbit. If you weren't somethin' special--" comes a grumpy voice from the rafters, and the rattle of feathers.

"-- you wouldn't be able to get in those doors without Nettie behind the counter."

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty takes a long moment to collect herself a bit. She pinches the bridge of her nose a bit. "Must have been drunker then I thought. I don't recall it.", the merc lies. The woman moves over to the tea kettles, and goes about getting a bag of ginger tea. Ty starts to boil some water while she goes over to Nettie's books, and marks the tea out. The merc takes a moment to adjust herself a bit.

"And the bird has it right. You've already been accepted. I'm still having trouble just getting what I'm working on just to work once. Hell, I bet you're working on projects already.", she says.

Ty shakes her head, and starts to pour the water into the cup. She lightly puts the bag in the water. "Just makes me wonder where I stand in everything. Am I just wasting time, or just not skilled?"

Mairin Moran has posed:
Mairin glares up at Corvax, but she's too tired for her heart to be in it. "Do you know what Nettie told me when I complained to her about being accepted? She said when I figure it out, to tell her because she still doesn't feel she is either." She shrugs, obviously not sure if she believes it. "And whether that's true or not, Corvax is right about something else. Nettie believes in us. *Both* of us. She wouldn't have given you that contract if she didn't."

She heaves herself up, catching sight of the circle Ty had been working on. "I can't tell you whether you're wasting your time or not. Your abilities already seem pretty increadible to me. But youre one of the most skilled people I know. No ordinary idiot could have grown from a stret kid in Madripor to..." she motions at Ty with one hand.

"Now... what are you working on. Maybe I can help. We're a team now, right? And isn't that what people on a team do? Help each other?"

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty shakes her head a little bit, and looks up at the crow. "Should I throw you a Playboy magazine or something? And you better not be staring down customers' shirts, you dirty bird.", she says, shaking a fist. The woman makes sure there's nothing for the bird to stare down after she makes the comment.

The merc shakes her head a bit at Mairin a bit. "Ummm, you know that most of the island is pirates and mercenaries right? Oh, right, most people can't even figure out where Madripor is on a map, even when its circled with a giant "THIS IS MADRIPOR!" sticker pointing it out.", she says. THe woman sighs a bit, and hands over the cup of tea. "Drink before talking.", she says.

Ty looks at the circle a bit. "Technically, each person on a team is assigned a job to do on their own that benefits the team. A team works best when each person perfers their duties correctly.", she says. The merc looks at the circle. "Its my attempt to make a Brath spell. I can't get it to do anything. The idea is to tap it, and say 'Brath' and it sends out a wave that sends information back to me. Like is something magical, what is the intent, how strong it is, what direction its going in...", she says. The woman sighs a bit. "It doesn't seem to activate when I tap it."

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Any cu---cumber can do /magic/. It's not hard. If it was, loads less people would be killed by it." Corvax complains, and he flaps his wings and hops to a different rafter.

"You lot these days just have more on yer plates. You take your tired little brains, an' you tell your hearts to put out like..." Corvax attempts to follow the new rule and 'be nice'.

"... look. Nettie's not accepted for completely different reasons. She's forgotten more proper magic than that wanker John Constantine will ever know."

The crow flaps down to the bar, and looks at the circle.

    "How're you sayin' the command?"

Mairin Moran has posed:
Mairin lets the comment about madripor slide. Obviously she doesn't know the first thing about the island, but she's pretty sure every child growing up on the street doesn't become a globe-trotting mercenary. But she's just too tired to argue it.

She pinches the bridge of her nose and bends down to pick up her bag, throwing the strap over a shoulder. "Look... Do you want me to try to help, or not? I really don't have the energy to try to argue the role of teamates."

She squints at Corvax, though whether because he's actually offering to help, or what he said about Nettie is hard to say.

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty shakes her head a little bit. "I offered you some ginger tea for the energy.", she says. The woman is still holding onto the cup. She waves some of the steam over to Mairin. She looks at Corvex a moment. "Nettie didn't put a curse on you or something? Are you sure you're the real Corvex, and not just some random talking crow?", she asks. The merc isn't used to a good Corvex, given the two tend to go back and forth like...well pirates.

Ty takes a moment, and moves over to the circle. She closes her eyes, and focuses her breathing a bit. She taps her finger on the circle, and silently breathes out the word, "Brath." Yet, nothing seems to channel. She taps it again. "Brath.", she says. Again, nothing. TAP TAP TAP! "BRATH!", she yells in frustration.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Cor/vax/" The bird gives an unhappy sound, correcting his name, "An' how many talkin' crows feckin' hang around witches in New York City, girl? Concentrate on yourself.

He hops around a moment, looking at the circle.

"Make two L's with your fingers. Put 'em to either side of the circle. Take the knowledge that the spell's gonna work an' have your brain tell your heart 'this is what we're doin'. You can't do magic with jus' the brain, and you can't control it with jus' the heart. Make 'em work together like your eyes an' your hands."

Mairin Moran has posed:
"I don't think some tea is going to help at this point," she mutters, but remains standing there watching Ty as she tries to activate the circle. Once she gets frustrated, she walks over and gently puts a hand on the woman's shoulder.

"Ty... calm down. The more adgitated you get, the more disconected your will and your heart become." She speaks softly, gently. "I don't know what you're doing... inside. But I *know* you can do this."

She waits for Corvax to finish, and nods slowly. "He's right. Place your fingers, thumb and forefinger on the outer ring. Then gather your Will... your knowledge of the spell... through the heart... and pool it in the circle. Then say the word."

She keeps her hand on Ty's shoulder, trying to act as a steadying influence. SHe doesn't know how to help the way Nettie did for her. But she can *be* here for her friend, and she tries to let that companionship, that goodwill, flow into Ty to give her some peace.

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty makes 'L's with her fingers, and places her hands on the paper. "The idea is if I can get this stupid circle to work, I can make a charm of it, place it inside the sole of the shoe, and tap the ground.", she says. The woman sighs a bit as she stretches her back a bit.

Ty takes several deep breaths once more, and settles her mind. "Brath.", she breathes out. Nothing again. Frustration is starting to set in again. "Arg! Sniping, stay calm, logical. Demolition, have nerves of steel. Assault, pure adreline. I go through extremes emotionally when I'm fighting. THis is just...torture. I feel like it should be working, but my mind keeps wondering how its going to get a radar out of this, and mah heart keeps pumping away faster and faster."

Mairin Moran has posed:
Mairin kneels down beside Ty, her hand moving to the woman's back, and takes one of Tys hands off the circle. "Just the one hand," she says gently. "I know you can focus. I know you have a chant or mantra you use to remain calm in a fight. Bring your pulse down. Your breathing down. Like shooting an arrow... just slow steady breaths. Don't think about *if* the spell is going to work. *Know* it will. You're Dark fucking Caliber. You *WILL* do this. There isn't a question of if. And take that Will... and focus it through that still quiet but passionate heart, and down into the circle."

Everything is said softly, barely over a whisper. But with firm determination and belief.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"Think like a bat." Corvax suggests as he hops off a moment. "Bats send a signal, aye? And then they pick it up again. Send yer signal out an' give a listen."

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty takes a long moment to settle back into a sniper's trance. The woman sharpens her mind, and closes her eyes a bit. She tries to push her will down into the paper with one hand this time. There's something of a shock there. Like touching a live wire for just a second. Just then, Ty breathes out again. "Brath.", she whispers. The circle glows a little, and a small wave of magical energy flows out. It touches Corvax's talons a little bit, before bouncing back. It doesn't seem to travel too far yet though. The bird just happend to be close enough.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
Corvax doesn't register correctly. It's like... a void. A hole.

    Weird.

"There you go. Good first try. Work it like a muscle until it's easy as breathin'."

Mairin Moran has posed:
"HA!" Mairin gives a bark of a laugh as the circle triggers. "I knew it. I knew you could do it." She slumps back onto her butt, chuckling to herself. "A sight better than my first spell, too. That's for sure."

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty blinks a little bit. "Ummm, did something screw up?", she asks. The woman blinks a few times, and pokes a Corvax. "I must of screwed up somwhere cause you're not registering, Corvax.", she says. Pokepoke! POOOKE! "Let me guess, you almost burned down the tea shop?", she asks. The merc takes a deep breath, and starts looking the circle over.

Nettie Crowe has posed:
"AWRK! POKE NOT THE FAMILIAR OF THE GRAYWITCH, PUP!" bellows the pirate crow as he attempts to peck at Ty's hand, and he flaps up to the rafters.

"I don't show up when someone little calls upon it!"

Mairin Moran has posed:
Mairin laughs. She actually laughs so hard she cries a little bit, rolling back or her butt and just cackling. It's loud enough that EMily actually comes to see what's going on, staring at the two of them with bright green eyes.

She pats Ty on the back as she tries to recover. "No, Ty... No, I think... I think you did it right." another round of giggling as she uses the chair to haul herself back up.

"Oh boy..." She takes a deep breath and grins at Ty. "I needed that. Thank you Ty." A last deep breath. "I'm sure if you keep practicing it, you'll be picking up all kinds of things in here. Just evidently NOT Corvax. Which I guess isn't surprising."

Tynan Ireton has posed:
Ty just blinks a little bit. "Not getting the funny here.", she says. THe woman stretches a little bit, and looks at the circle a bit. "I'll probably have to get this casted then. Corvax, which metal would make a good cast?", she asks. "For channelling and such.", she asks. The woman looks at Mairin. "Just felt wierd. I kinda expected some sort of sea feeling, but nothing.", she says. "Just...nothing.", she says. "I don't know how to explain it."

Mairin Moran has posed:
Mairin shrugs a bit. It doesn't matter if she understands what was so funny. She has a feeling Ty doesn't find Corvax as endeering as she does. "You might try paladium. I've had good luck with it." She picks up her satchel and heads for the door. "Just keep practicing!"
