Night at Harry's
Date of Scene: 22 October 2021
Location: Harry's Hideaway (Bar)
Synopsis: Catching up with Lorna, Laxmi and Henry.
Cast of Characters: Lorna Dane, Laxmi Mallick, Henry McCoy

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna Dane had been spending more time in New York lately to help with the building of the embassy, as well as other issues. She was still working closely with the fund raising for Genosha as well but Clarice and others had taken over a large portion of that. It helped having those who would help her out while she focused on the current project. For now though? Now, she had enjoyed a pleasant dinner, and was intending to kick back and relax at Harry's to recall the 'good old days' as it were. It didn't take long for her to arrive given she could fly. Way better than driving. Due to the COLD AIR that had picked up recently she was wearing a jacket. A slightly aged, worn jacket that was a bit too big for her, and in a particularily familiar checked pattern. This jacket had seen much use though not by her. No, it was 'borrowed' from the real owner. "Harry," she calls out in greeting to the bartender as she strides inside. "Grab me a beer. And some snacks. Pretzels?" She eyes the small package of goodies meant for drinking. Pretzels was always good.

Laxmi Mallick has posed:
Laxmi is seated at one of the tables in the bar - as she'd heard the place could be a hang out for some of the teachers from the school. It had prompted her to peek in after a day of shopping, just to see what the place was like. In front of her was set a glass filled with a sparkling, clear-colored liquid, with a bit of cucumber inside the glass - some sort of gin cocktail, would be the easy assumption. She doesn't seem immediately aware of Lorna, as she takes a sip from her drink, humming to herself as she changes the musical notation displayed on the screen of the tablet she set on the table in front of her.

Henry McCoy has posed:
It was a good Thursday, and Henry was in the mind to have some adult beverages and bar food. You know, one of those moods! He stepped into the bar, offering a wave and smile to Harry as he does. "Evening." He calls over. Of course, both Laxmi and Lorna are spotted - though the latter has bit of a look of confusion. She smells like Logan, after all! "Evening you two... how are you wonderful ladies?"

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna Dane had met Laxmi only once before so pauses to wrack her memory for a name. It would only take a second but in that time Henry also walks in earning a quick grin in response. It was hard to ever mistake him for someone else after all. Or to not know him. "Hank, good evening. I'm doing well. I just thought it would be nice to relax for awhile and have a drink." And hopefully not make a fool of herself again when she has some. She was working on that. "Good to see you." Her head inclines back toward Laxmi as well. "Do you mind if we join you?"

Laxmi Mallick has posed:
"Oh - hello!" Laxmi remarks with some surprise as she finally notes Lorna - and then Henry's arrival. "Of course, I would absolute love the company," she assures them both, reaching out to turn off the screen of her tablet, out of politeness. "Miss Dane, wasn't it? Good evening, Henry - or, do you prefer Hank?" At least it wasn't 'Doctor McCoy' now that they were away from the school, apparently.

Henry McCoy has posed:
Henry smiles to both. "Hank among friends, Miss Mallick." He offers, with a chuckle. He motions to a seat for Lorna, pulling it out for her as well. Once everyone is settled, he takes his own seat. "An old fashioned please, Harry?" He asks. "Are we celebrating or simply relaxing after a good day?"

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna Dane leans an elbow lightly on the table in spite of her manners training her otherwise. She could relax here a bit after all. "Just relaxing, mostly, though the finalization of plans for the Embassy are underway. Which will be good. Just had to have the contractor look over and approve the final drafts, and then we can begin building. Thankfully, since it's nothing too intensive, it should only take a few weeks at most." With a grin she offer a shrug. "So a good day then I guess in my case. How about you two?"

Laxmi Mallick has posed:
"If it's Hank - then I think 'Laxmi' will suffice," the reminds the man with an amuse smile. Picking up her drink, she takes a sip, then shakes her head slightly. "No celebration - I simply came to do some shopping, and I'd heard the rumor that some of the staff come here at times - so I thought it would be a great idea to stop in and take a look around. It has charm enough, I suppose," she adds with a little amusement.

Henry McCoy has posed:
"Relaxing and recovering. There was some activity in rescuing some children, and getting them help in Genosha." He smiles. "Perhaps a bit of celebration, too." All in one, for Henry. A nod to Laxmi. "Yes, it is a favorite watering hole for many of our staff. We've had birthday parties, karaoke sing offs... all sorts of occasions here." A smile over to Lorna. "How is the Embassy, then? Are you needing any help?"

Lorna Dane has posed:
"Ah, yes, I'd heard of the children," Lorna remarks with a small frown. Too often these things seemed to be happening lately. A slight shake of her head comes and she smiles toward Laxmi in apparent agreement. "It's within walking distance, if you don't mind stretching your legs a bit. So it's a good spot for us. And Harry's always taken care of us rather well," she has to admit with a gesture toward the bartender in general. Hank's question earns a shake of her head. "No, it's pretty much done. Just dealing with politics and the like. I don't want to put anyone else through that nonsense. Regardless, it's going to go up, and it looks as if the grand opening can be held fairly soon."

Laxmi Mallick has posed:
"Which children?" Laxmi asks in puzzlement, looking between the two. "Why, if I may ask, were they in need of rescue? These were mutant children, I take it?" Considering who was involved - and where they were sent. "What about their families?"
Towards Lorna she adds a bit sheepishly, "I'll admit, I know far less about Genosha than I likely should, and I've never been. Somehow, ever since- well, what happened, the thought of visiting a place of such destruction feels a little... ghoulish."

Henry McCoy has posed:
As his drink is set down, Henry gives a nod to Harry in thanks. After a sip, he chuckles. "Paperwork and politics are part of the world, alas. I find them fascinating from time to time - so long as I can get out and run after." A wry grin to both. "I believe the families are being looked into as well, it wasn't... a pleasant scenario, unfortunately. I am just happy to prevent more experimentation on mutant.s"

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna Dane shakes her head at Laxmi. "From what I gather, they were kidnapped and being tested on. A situation that happens far too often these days. It's unforgiveable." A small sigh comes as she takes up her drink to take a sip of it. It was just whatever beer was on tap. She was trying less hard drinks since she'd been having issues lately with the harder stuff. "Genosha is being rebuilt. We've quite a bit going on, but people still live there. I try to think of it as any place that has been hit with a natural disaster may be. We're rebuilding. Finding a new way."

Laxmi Mallick has posed:
But what natural disaster has quite such a high death toll? Laxmi doesn't voice the thought, however, as she takes a small sip of her drink instead. "Well. Perhaps I'll visit one of these days, but I'm glad the rebuilding is going well."
Her gaze shifts between Lorna and Henry as she adds with some dismay, "Someone was experimenting on these children? That's- utterly awful. But they're in good hands now? How many children are we talking about?"

Henry McCoy has posed:
Another sip from his drink, before Henry orders snacks - fries and wings. "Just over two hundred." He says, reaching down to absently rub at his leg. "They are in good hands, I assure you." A smile to Laxmi. "There are friends all over, some in positions of leadership, who are very happy to help out mutantkind."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna Dane raises her drink to take a few long gulps off of it as the numbers are stated. So much for a nice relaxing night. There were things that happened in this world that could drive anyone to drink. Lowering the mug she reaches for the pretzels she'd also ordered to chomp off one side. "Mm. It's still a horrible situation all around. We're doing what we can. That's all we can do sometimes."

Laxmi Mallick has posed:
"Two hundred," Laxmi breathes, the dismay looking even more pronounced at those numbers. "Well. They're safe now. Is there anything we can do to support them? Anything they need? Blankets, food donations, clothes, toys?" She looks between Hank and Lorna, since they seem to know far more about this situation than she does, after all.

Henry McCoy has posed:
A hand taps the bar near Laxmi, careful to not touch her. "Anything you feel up to assisting with, is welcome." He smiles to the woman. "There are a lot of scared children, but they are all healthy and safe. We're just getting through the best paths for them going forward." A smile to Lorna and a nod. "And as always, you know you can count on my help."

Lorna Dane has posed:
"Toys would be of immense help, actually. We have most of the other needs lined up, but when you've come with nothing, it's helpful to have something to hold onto." Lorna is quite serious about this part. Smiling wanly she breaks off peices of another pretzel to take smaller bites between talking, and drinking. "Clothes as well. Perhaps bags to hold their items. I understand that's also a need for many foster children."

Laxmi Mallick has posed:
"Well, I'll drum some things up," Laxmi promises. "Should I just give the donations to you? Or is there somewhere else to bring them, to help them get to Genosha as expediently as possible?" she asks with puzzlement. After all - it was clear on the other side of the planet. It was hard to get any further away from their current position - without leave the globe, of course.

Henry McCoy has posed:
A smile. "I am sure we can transport things as needed. We've got jets, among other methods of getting needed items where they need to go." He looks proud of his friends, happy to see them show such a philanthropic side. "I am just so very glad we were able to get them out. Now they can work on healing and putting the trouble behind them."

Lorna Dane has posed:
"There's several teleporters that work with Genosha," Lorna assures. "The embassy is going to become one of the focal drop off points for such things, so that they can be examined before being sent over. To ensure there's little chance of..." Here she pauses, lifting a hand to gesture vaguely. "Put anything suspicious in them. If you see me later I can give you some of the contact information for groups that assist in that as well. I just don't carry it with me all the time," she explains with a little shrug before reaching up to run her fingers over the collar of the jacket she'd borrowed. "This is excessively warm inside, but so very nice outside," she mumbles more to herself than the others.

Laxmi Mallick has posed:
"So - you would rather I dropped things off at the embassay? Even though it's not finished yet?" Laxmi asks uncertainly, looking between the pair as she tries to sort it all out. "I could see if any others in the Indian diaspora would like to contribute to the children," she supplies helpful. "Put a little drive together for such a noble cause."

Henry McCoy has posed:
Food arrives and Henry noshes. "I cannot speak for Lorna - but she has the safety of the children in mind, I am certain." A smile. "Not that you, or any of our friends would harm any child - it's just caution on her part." A shrug. "Too many are looking to harm us, or children, or both." A shake of his head. "The world has too many people who are joyless and hateful."

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna Dane lifts a hand to wave away that thought. "No, no, I'm sorry. I've had the embassy on my mind for so long I'm getting off on an tangent. I mean see me later and I will get you the appropriate contact information. Honestly just having it at the school will be a suitable place for now so that it can be handed off to the appropriate people." A deep breath is let out along with a tired grin. "Thank you. That would be quite helpful."

Laxmi Mallick has posed:
"Got it," Laxmi agrees. "I understand. Well - whatever I can put together. Hopefully it'll be quite a large pile of supplies," she offers with an encouraging smile. She finally finishes her drink, pushing the glass away from herself.
"Well," she remarks, "What else have you two been up to? There must be other interesting things going on in your lives."

Henry McCoy has posed:
A chuckle. "Just... keeping up with K'Tara. Learning about her and being smitten." He laughs, polishing of another wing. "Looking forward to the Fall formal and the Halloween party." Henry explains, looking happy as can be.

Lorna Dane has posed:
Lorna Dane grins a bit at Henry's response only to nod in agreement. "That should be interesting at least for the kids. I'm getting ready to put together the opening ceremony for the embassy. Logan has agreed to be my bodyguard and escort there to chase off unwanted ..." Pausing she considers her words. "Advances by annoying politicians."

Laxmi Mallick has posed:
"I can imagine that, as a reining sovereign, unwanted advances can really be a challenge..." Laxmi offers with a sympathetic frown. The expression turns to a smile as she adds, "Though I'm happy for you and K'Tara, Hank. Tara is such a lovely individual - kind and giving. And, quite honestly, rather fascinated. We talked over milkshakes once about her people, and their traditions."

Henry McCoy has posed:
More wings and fries are downed by Henry, the man happy to nosh while chatting. "If you need help in that detail, I can offer over my services as well Lorna. I can even wear my Avenger's outfit." He waggles his brows. A happy grin to Laxmi. "I plan on visiting her home soon - I want to see her people and meet the people she grew up with."
